I don’t write fanfic anymore, but I still avidly read, and am I watching this star wars/mando fic community discourse with a bowl of popcorn? holy shit of course I am
#are there Problematic tropes and ideas and writing styles that are common in this kind of fic?#yes and OP was right to call it out so ppl can be aware of it and be more conscious and critical writers and readers#THAT SAID#is all RI fic thinly veiled RPF?#fuck no and OP rightly got some pushback on that statement and ik they apologized for the phrasing#and also was some of OP's phrasing attack-y enough that I understand why people took issue?#yes and I appreciate the ppl on OP's blog who had a good faith discussion about it#bc we all have biases and blindspots and prejudices some of which we're aware of and others we're not#on the one hand don't send hate to OP#but on the other OP has to know that untagged doesn't mean unsearchable#and considering OP's popularity on a certain side of fandom I'm not surprised there was enough crossover to incite Discourse#sadie rants in the tags#i read RI and gen or canon ship fic#including OP's! they're very talented and I have several of their works bookmarked on ao3#there's good and bad in both categories of fic#does RI tend to fall into the traps of problematicness more often? absolutely#is gen or canon compliant fic immune from problematic writing or ideas? not at all#ugh i'm ambivalent overall#i understand the write and let write argument#but I also notice that this fandom has an unusually and incredibly large proportion of RI fic
