I understand why it wasn't possible, but it's such a shame we couldn't get Jenny back for The Wish. She and Giles fighting a losing battle side by side and being hardened from it, but remaining each other's solace. Them piecing together the puzzle Cordelia presents to them and having faith in a world better than this, only for Anyanka to try and throw them by hinting at Jenny's death should they return. Giles faltering at the thought of losing her and Jenny, once again, sacrificing herself and destroying the necklace. The way she sees it: she'll either be dead by The Master's hand or by her own, and only one of those inevitabilities gives the man she loves a chance of survival. She kisses him as she plunges herself into the abyss, wanting the last thing she experiences to be his love.
Giles waking up the following morning, the pang in his heart he always feels whenever he remembers Jenny accompanied by a newfound feeling of emptiness, and he's not quite sure why.

Give me a Character and I’ll tell you why they are better than Damon - Klaus Edition
as requested by sakuraharunos
First of all I recognize the similarities. Both characters have done immoral things and yet become main characters. They both now have the redemption arc of the love of a good woman will make them better. There are however some key differences.
1)      Klaus has a better back story. No matter how much the writers tried to layer up Damon’s back story they will always bring it all back to Katherine. The fact that the reason Damon is a douche is because some girl wasn’t fully into him over a 100 years ago is just such a pathetic back story. Klaus’ back story is so much better because it’s about his family and his fears around immortality. From early on you could see he has issues with how his world seems to change around him decade by decade and he’s just trying to keep a control on everything, mainly his family. This complexity of a back story makes the character seem more 3 dimensional, more interesting and you get a sense of his motivations. It also seems a pretty realistic motivations for an immortal  powerful dark being . Death is not his primary fear, losing power and control is his fear.
2)   My second point is a bit hard to pin down in words- Klaus has such a badass screen presence. I mean Ian’s just playing Damon as that whiny teen brother type, but with superpowers.

Even with the “emotion switch flipped off” Damon’s still a bit goofy:

When Klaus walks in a room you get all the vibes that you would expect from a vampire show. You see so much power, tactical thinking and a degree of sophistication in so many little movements:

So many characters acted funny like Damon when they were bad. So many did a better job of it than Ian (coughs kai).Joseph was just a classic villain It’s more than the accent it’s just the whole presence and I love the classic villain.
3)      Klaus can actually be a significant threat and it makes sense that he has survived this long and is taken seriously. As much as Plec has gradually ruined how threatening he is for sake of plot later on, this is  still pretty true to this day From season 1-8 Damon could have easily been crushed by Stefan or Bonnie or the multitude of people he has pissed off but out of pure luck and a bs forgiveness narrative he’s survived and that’s so frustrating. Whereas Klaus is still around because he’s physically stronger than so many of the characters, has better compulsion and he can get himself great allies (even if a lot of them will stab him in the back once given a chance).  We also got that brief justification that his death would cause further death (btw I think they could have done way more with that bit of mythology than they did)
4)      We got some great stories out of Klaus. The whole build up to his arrival in season 2  and the impending doom we felt in the s2 finale was awesome. The story of him constantly chasing Katherine and his connection to the doppelgangers was also a great build on the mythology. I struggle to think of any specific great plot where Damon was an essential part of it. His threats on the town briefly in season 1 were pretty exciting but then after that he was pretty disposable.
5)      Klaus has several different great dynamics with other characters. Klaus being the one person that scares Katherine was awesome. After Klaus we saw Katherine in this whole new light as this woman who learned how manipulate her way through situations in order to survive and keep running. Klaus’ relationship with her is she is the prey and he is the predator. Klaus’ also has a murder pals relationship with the ripper which built on Stefan’s back story.
He also has serious issues with each sibling in various ways. Klaus’ sibling issues were way better than the Salvatore’s mainly because Damon had plenty of opportunities to reconnect with his brother and he didn’t whereas the Michealson are way more twisted. So I really don’t care about defan but the originals were interesting enough to make a spin off (even if a lot of them don’t appear in it very often).
In contrast to Klaus,Damon has the same dynamic with EVERYONE. His dynamic with every character is that he makes personal cutting jokes, kills and hurts characters and their friends and GETS AWAY WITH IT. For the vast majority of the show you see little resentment from the characters. I mean even when Caroline and Elena got a bit sassy with Damon you have to remember their sass was after he killed Jeremy and raped Caroline. These are things that directly impacted these two character and they just gave back sass. I know some folk resent that Caroline wasn’t more angry at Klaus for the way he treated Tyler but I will say this -  Tyler was atleast angry with the way he was treated by Klaus. If it was Damon that killed his mom and all the other nasty things he did, he would be forgiven by Tyler because that’s how the show operates. By the end of the story no one hates Damon, NO ONE.
And finally, Klaus never was part of a dumb ass love triangle plot  of ”which brother will the girl pick?”. Man did that love triangle get dragged out.
