Hey Pia! Have you ever written or considered writing fat characters? Not because I think anyone is obligated to, just genuinely curious. I hope you’re doing well!
Hi anon!
For main characters, I think the only ones have been Hank from Eversion (a fanfic on my thespectaclesofthor account) and The Iron Bull from Stuck on the Puzzle, though Cullen doesn't mention it much, the one time he specifically mentions Bull having a thick layer of fat over his muscles, it's specifically to say that he likes that soft strength. As side characters in fanfiction there's also Aidhe, and I feel like I'm forgetting someone but I don't remember all the characters I've written T.T
As side characters in my fiction, there's also Aleutia, Fenwrel, Mikkel, an unnamed wolverine shifter in The Ice Plague, and probably others I'm forgetting. For characters who would be considered smaller fats in our world, there are also characters like Ondine!
It's still not as much representation as I'd like, but I experience dysmorphia when I write characters due to my own internalised fatphobia (I'm a fat person with an EDNOS around restrictive eating, my dietitian has me under pretty firm instructions to avoid triggers where possible / in my control, so when I do write fat characters, it's overwhelmingly in worlds or contexts where no one views that negatively, which is why it's sometimes easy for folks to miss. But I do also under-describe it, which heads back to my own personal issues, I think).
