Daud killed an Empress, then saved her daughter, who will one day rule an empire. If there's really anything to hate him for, it's for imprisoning Timsh and then later freeing him only for him to run to his death in an escape attempt. I don't know why, but I want that to be canon.

I disagree with you two anons. I don’t think that saving Emily exactly makes up for killing Jessamine for money. (I think that if Jessamine hadn’t been killed, then we wouldn’t have seen Dunwall plunged into chaos for six months. It’s true, this doesn’t make for an exciting game environment or a driving main plot, but you have to do something to make the villain feel really bad in the early part of the game, otherwise there would be no motivation with having to pursue him. I don’t agree with the implication in The Corroded Man that Jessamine’s death was necessary in order to stabilise Dunwall because in every other parallel universe and possible future where she lives, she only rules until Dunwall Tower falls, the last building to succumb to flames closely following the complete spread of the rat plague.) 

However, that doesn’t make me hate him, and like second anon says, he’s an interesting character. He has a redemption arc in his DLCs and that’s why I think his story doesn’t need to continue beyond “Brigmore Witches”. Whether Daud’s redemption arc succeeds - whether you think he made good on his previous deeds, or he just, well, didn’t - is up to your interpretation.

I like Daud, personally speaking. - Likewise I’m not sure if he’s coming back as a character in Death of the Outsider because of fan reaction or because it was long planned, considering that every time Arkane wants to move ahead and release a new installment in the Dishonored franchise, they have to make a somewhat awkward announcement as to which choices are canon and which are not, for the next releases to be coherent. 

I am not sure that it is what everyone wanted, but it could very likely be what everyone who was the most vocal (for example on twitter or reddit) requested. I’ve seen people also ask for more content featuring Matha Cottings (the watch officer who showed the most promise to be Corvo’s next protégé in The Wyrmwood Deceit), Billie’s girlfriend Deidre, Corvo’s sister Beatrici Attano, and Alexi Mayhew. However I understand that the direction Arkane are taking with DOTO is using the main characters from the DH1 and its DLCs, to neatly tie up the story concerned with the Outsider.
