New Honda Passport 2024 Specs, Release Date, Redesign
New Honda Passport 2024 Specs, Release Date, Redesign – The 2024 Honda Passport is like a quiet left fielder who gets the job done without becoming the center of attention. The Passport has almost a dozen competitors in the midsize SUV sector, each with its strengths and weaknesses. The Passport isn’t a clear standout in this crowded and fiercely competitive category, but its solid all-around…

While technically no longer a driver, James Hinchcliffe, known as Hinch, is still an integral part of the field. He remains friends with most of the drivers and serves as an informal liaison between them and the series, emailing drivers after each race asking for their concerns and forwarding them on to those in charge. Now in a broadcast role at NBC for Indycar and select IMSA races, Hinch does not rule out racing again, should the right opportunity arise. As of 2023, he has become a 'big F1 guy' commentating on select F1 races for F1TV
2019 ESPN Body Issue Controversy? Rumor has it that Arrow disapproved of James baring it all and this contributed to him being 'relieved of his duties.' James remained under contract for 2020, under which he was required to be with the team on race weekends and make sponsor appearances, but was free to pursue other opportunities. In 2020, Hinchcliffe joined NBC Sports as analyst for IndyCar races and select IMSA races when he did not enter as a driver. Read the ESPN article and view the pictures.
Hinch often referred to himself as the class clown of Indycar while he was a driver, bringing his slightly irreverent sense of humor out as often as he could. He’s a natural in front of a camera, entertaining fans throughout his whole career. He’s very intelligent and capable of explaining complex concepts in an easy to understand way. He’s got a sunny personality, is very personable and is almost always full of good humor and enthusiasm.

No need for an RV with these great camping cars

No need for an RV with these great camping cars
Consider this the summer in limbo, and not just because we have to bend over backwards to make any plans at all. With summer plans scrambled due to the coronavirus pandemic and more Americans wary of airline travel and hotel stays, it’s time to restore that timeless American adventure and hit the road.
It won’t take an RV or a vacation rental to explore America’s national treasures while still maintaining distance from other Americans. Camping requires some gear—glamping requires an excess—but our list of camper-ready vehicles come from the factory ready for adventure.

The versatile family hauler can become a cabin on wheels if the weather becomes unbearable. Available now in all-wheel drive, the 2021 Pacifica comes with second- and third-row seats that fold into the floor (the hybrid model does not come with second-row Stow ‘N Go seats). Other vans have heavy, removable seats that become a pain in a pinch, such as during that surprise hail storm or when that shrill animal cry gets closer. And closer. With 140.5 cubic feet of space behind the front seats and room enough to fit four-by-eight sheets of plywood, the Pacifica could fit a full-sized inflatable mattress with just a little squeezing on the side. If that’s not enough space, it can tow up to 3,600 pounds (when a $995 towing package is equipped), good enough to tow everything from recreational toys to small travel trailers.

2020 Subaru Outback
The poster child for the outdoorsman, the predecessor to the do-it-all SUV, the Swiss army knife of cars, the Sultan of Swat, the King of Crash, the Colossus of Clout—you get it, even if you’ve never seen “The Sandlot” or visited Colorado. The Outback is all grown up, and handles suburban outings with the same capability as back-country romps. The low, wide, flat floor, and wide door openings make loading and unloading gear a cinch, and dogs love jumping in and out. Collapsible roof racks with tie downs come standard, as does all-wheel drive and a slew of safety features. Available water-repellent interiors, skid plates, a trailer hitch with 3,500-pound towing capacity and so many aftermarket roof-top tent options make this classic as modern as ever. And it’s the only vehicle on our list that can answer the call of the wild with efficient urban driving.

2017 Honda Ridgeline Black Edition
2018 Honda Ridgeline
2018 Honda Ridgeline
Any pickup truck could make our list, but since the Ridgeline shares a platform with the Honda Pilot crossover SUV, it’s the smoothest-riding pickup and our pick for an impromptu camper. The truck bed extends from 64 inches to 83 inches with the tailgate down, which is long enough to be a makeshift bed in a pinch. With 50 inches across, a twin mattress could fit, or a full-size could get squeezed by the wheel wells. If not being used as a pillow, the dual-action tailgate swings out to the left for easier bed access and a clever floor locker can double as a cooler. A truck-bed audio system on the RTL-E trim sweetens the deal, and an available bed extender or roof-mounted bike carrier means you can bring along the toys. There are some pretty sweet aftermarket tents that extend over the bed, as well.

Jeep’s mid-size pickup truck, or the Wrangler with a bed, offers all the capability of a Wrangler with the added versatility of a pickup that can tow up to 7,650 pounds. And you can take off the roof and doors for a night under the stars. For off-roaders, the long wheelbase limits its breakover angle compared to the Wrangler, though there are few places that would worry the Gladiator. The 5-foot steel cargo bed might not be the best for sleeping, but the available Trail Rail system with a 115-volt AC outlet and all the Mopar parts means you can equip the Gladiator in a way that tells others: “I’ll sleep when I die.”

2020 Dodge Durango SRT
As much as we love the performance from the 475-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 in the Durango SRT, we prize the three-row SUV here for its towing capacity of up to 8,700 pounds ($1,195 package required), which is the most for any SUV not based on a truck. That’s good enough to tow some 30-foot travel trailers, and when you unhitch it at the campsite you can cruise around the local sights with gusto. Or find a straight to hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Careful on arriving at the campground late or leaving early; the unabashed V-8 rumble might cause your neighbors to enact social distancing in a much more hostile way. It seats six, too, with comfy buckets in the first two rows, so if you had to sleep in the car, you could recline and cocoon yourself in blankets or catch a flick on the rear entertainment center ($1,995). That’s not really camping but at least you’re out of the house.
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
2020 Toyota Land Cruiser
It doesn’t matter that this three-row SUV is nearly old enough to get its own driver’s license, the Land Cruiser is beloved the world over for its rugged capability and SUV versatility. The 381-hp V-8 and truck frame give this heavy 4×4 the kind of off-road confidence expected in a truck but with a boxy body. It seats eight but no one will be happy about that. The third row can never get out of its own way, however, even if it’s split and swung out to rest against the wall. The off-road ready Heritage Edition deletes the third row to seat five, and comes with a mega roof rack coveted by posers and brozers alike. Options are limited but tow hooks, skid plates, mud-and-snow tires, a split liftgate/tailgate, and an integrated hitch capable of towing 8,100 pounds come standard. What it lacks in interior refinement and features, the Land Cruiser makes up for in bona fide go-anywhere capability. It’s not the roomiest if you need to crash in it overnight, but there are so many aftermarket accessories and roof-top tents you may never need to.
2020 Land Rover Defender
2020 Land Rover Defender
2020 Land Rover Defender, 2019 LA Auto Show
2020 Land Rover Defender, 2019 LA Auto Show
Land Rover might be the only brand with an off-road reputation on par with the Land Cruiser, and the return of the boxy Defender two- or four-door SUV puts the British brand firmly back in the bush. Thick bumpers, big wheels, heavy cladding, and a tailgate-mounted spare belie the blend of luxury and rugged finishes found inside, such as a touchscreen, alpine lights, and exposed rivets. The Defender X off-road model has locking center and rear differentials, and all Defenders come with four-wheel drive and 11.5-inches of ground clearance, which is nearly an inch more than a Wrangler. An available jump seat could let you sit three up front to get the best shots on safari, and other options such as a 1.7-gallon water reservoir for cleaning off muddy pets or shoes, an electric winch, or roof and side carriers let you customize your outback adventure. The various “packs” are almost as cool as the Defender itself; the Adventure Pack comes with a seat backpack and integrated air compressor.
2022 Volkswagen Microbus
Volkswagen ID Buzz electric bus concept with 1964 VW Microbus
Like the Defender, the Bus is back. Almost. And when it arrives for 2022 as the ID Buzz or the Electric Bus or whatever it’s going to be called, it will be an all-electric van. Little is known about the reboot of the 60s counterculture icon except that it will be a key part of Volkswagen Group’s plans to build 27 different electric vehicles across all brands. Since most established campgrounds have electricity, finding one with EV chargers is getting easier. Ride on, plug in, drop out.

Honda is expanding its Civic Type R range with the addition of two new variants: Limited Edition and Sport Line. Building on the dynamic performance capabilities of the standard Type R GT, the new models each offer a different style and performance proposition, further broadening the appeal of Honda's award-winning hatchback.
With the Civic Type R Limited Edition, Honda is unleashing the most extreme version of its renowned high-performance car. Built as the purest expression of Type R to date, the Limited Edition features new lightweight components, a stripped-back interior, enhanced driving dynamics and stand-out styling. Developed with track performance as its core focus, the new Civic Type R Limited Edition has been designed and engineered to be the most dynamic front wheel drive hatchback available. With a stripped-back, driver-focused interior, this is the most extreme version of the iconic Civic Type R ever made. Just 100 will be built for Europe, featuring lightweight flow-formed 20“ forged BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tyres, which are designed for high-speed track driving but still deliver exceptional on-road performance. Modified dampers optimise this new wheel and tyre combination and recalibration of the EPAS offers maximum control and feedback.
To reflect its extrovert nature, an exclusive new colour, ‘Sunlight Yellow’, is introduced for the Civic Type R Limited Edition, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the back. With the addition of contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors and intake vent on the bonnet, the bold colour scheme reflects Honda’s sporting heritage and ensures the Limited Edition stands out as a unique proposition in the performance hatchback segment.
The Civic Type R Limited Edition’s interior echoes Honda’s sporting bloodline: featuring the iconic red bucket seats and red Alcantara steering wheel complemented by the teardrop gear knob. Each model features a plaque marking the build number of the car.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning systems are omitted to save weight. Additional weight is saved by reducing sound-deadening materials in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper and dashboard. The Limited Edition Type-R is 47kg lighter than a Type R in GT specification. Unlike other brands’ track-focused performance hatchbacks, the Limited Edition retains its rear seats and the everyday usability for which the Civic is renowned.
The new Limited Edition model retains the Type R’s powerful 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine. Peak power output is 320PS at 6,500rpm and peak torque is 400Nm from 2,500rpm to 4,500rpm. 0-62mph is achieved in 5.7 seconds. The second new addition to the Type R range is the understated Civic Type R Sport Line, which retains the sporting pedigree and outstanding driving dynamics of the Civic Type R, but with more discreet styling and a more refined ride. Designed to appeal to a customer who seeks a subtler look from their performance hatchback, Sport Line features a low height rear spoiler, 19-inch alloys and an all-black interior, yet retains the outstanding performance that is a trademark of Type R models.
The Type R Sport Line’s most notable departure from the distinctive styling of the regular Civic Type R is a low-deck rear spoiler instead of the high-level wing, giving a subtler silhouette to the car. The Civic Type R Sport Line is also distinguished by a grey accent line which runs along the lower edge of the car.
The Civic Type R Sport Line delivers a more compliant and refined driving experience than its more extreme siblings. New exclusive dark grey 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tyres with a softer sidewall that enhance on-road comfort, with noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) further improved by additional soundproofing materials in the boot and tailgate. The interior of the new Civic Type R Sport Line retains a performance-focused appeal with a more subtle ambience. Black bucket seats with red stitching are complemented by the new tear drop style gear knob and Alcantara steering wheel. The red stitching is continued throughout the interior, including door panels to reflect Honda’s sporting heritage.
As with the standard Civic Type R, the new Type R Sport Line is equipped with a range of comfort and safety features. The new variant also retains the seven-inch infotainment system, which incorporates DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Adding to the range of colour options, the 2020 Civic Type R GT and Type R Sport Line will be available in a bold new paint finish, Racing Blue.

2023 Hyundai Palisade | Review & Road Test
For the latest Hyundai Palisade pricing and information: This is the Hyundai Palisade and as you can see, it’s gotten some work done. With a revised front fascia, interior, and the introduction of a new rugged trim, it’s received, all together now, a mid-cycle refresh. Here’s some quick details. Introduced in 2020, this is Hyundai’s biggest vehicle. It’s a 7 or 8 seat mid-size SUV that shook up the car market when it arrived, presenting a practical and stylish alternative to its competition. Propelling Hyundai’s big boy is still a 3.8L V6 making 291 hp (291 hp/ 262 lb-ft) linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission. FWD is standard and AWD is available on all trims for an extra $1,900. Fuel economy on par with the segment (FWD 19 city / 27 hwy, graphic: AWD 19 city/ 25 hwy) but a hybrid option would be nice right about now, and if you plan on towing the Palisade has a Max tow capacity of 5000 lbs. In the cargo area there’s (18 cu-ft) behind the 3rd row, fold down the 3rd row seats for (45.8 cu-ft), and for maximum volume, the second and 3rd row folded yields (86.4 cu-ft). And on the subject of seats, 8 passenger seating is only available on the lowest 2 SE and SEL trims. Higher trims feature captains chairs. Applied to the pavement, the Palisade drives well. It has predictable handling and provides a graceful and confident ride. Honestly the Palisade has some easy road manners, which is good because if you’re using this to haul around family, you want the easiest ride you can get. Visibility is good in the but if you do need it, there’s standard blind spot monitoring. Some other standard safety features will include forward collision assist with pedestrian detection, Lane follow and lane keep assist, and navigation based smart cruise control with stop & go and curve control. Power delivery in the Palisade is adequate, put your foot down and it gets you moving. I like that the V6 has a pretty linear power delivery that you won’t really feel on a lot of turbo powered SUVS. Base MSRP is $34,950 not including destination charges for an SE trim which includes the standard features mentioned earlier, AC vents in all 3 rows, paddle shifters, LED headlights, and highway driving assist. Wanna stand out? Check out that new XRT trim starting at $40,250 that’ll give you rugged aesthetics like a dark grille, black lower bumpers in front and black, and skid plate accents, 20” black alloy wheels, Black roof Rails, a lower door garnish, and the XRT badge. And if you’re considering taking the luxury route, the Calligraphy trim starting at $48,900 includes these 20 inch alloy wheels, Chrome exterior accents, digital rear view mirror, ambient lighting, and nappa leather seats with Hyundai’s “driver’s ergo motion seat”, which is basically a seat massager. Competitors include so many SUVS like the Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Subaru Ascent, Volkswagen Atlas, Nissan Pathfinder, and can’t forget its platform-mate the Kia Telluride. The Palisade is a satisfying SUV that continues to stand out in a world of midsize SUVS. And now with its new facelift, rugged trim, and upscale interior, you really can’t deny yourself a second look at what Hyundai is offering. 00:00 2023 Hyundai Palisade 0:43 Engine 1:10 Interior 4:04 Driving Impressions 6:17 Pricing 8:08 Competitors

Performance
An interesting feature found on this aircraft is the placement of the engines. Powered by twin General Electric Honda / HF120 engines, with approximately 2,050 lbs force of thrust each. You will notice the engines are located above the wings. This is a design feature by the manufacturer which is called, “over the wing engine mount” (OTWEM). What this design feature allows for. Is a reduction of noise in the cabin, as well as increased fuselage space.
The HA-420 is capable of seating up to 6 passengers including pilot and crew. With 4 passengers, this aircraft is able to travel up to 1,223 nautical miles. Its maximum cruise speed is Mach 0.63 at a cruise altitude of 30,000 ft. Overall, this aircraft can reach a maximum cruise altitude of 43,000 ft.
Also, the maximum takeoff distance with this aircraft is approximately 3,934 ft. While its maximum landing distance is around 3,047 ft. (2)
Interior
The OTWEM design has enabled this aircraft’s baggage capacity and cabin to be the largest in its class or category. The internal cabin dimensions on the HondaJet, Elite & Elite S measure approximately; 4 ft 9″ in height, 5 ft in width and 17 ft 9″ in length. (3)
The baggage compartment in the nose is 9 ft³, while the compartment in the aft is 57 ft³. That comes to a total of approximately 66 ft³ of external storage capacity.
When we approach the flight deck, the HondaJet uses the Garmin G3000 next gen all-glass avionic suite. It features dual touch screen controllers, accompanied by three 14 inch high resolution LCD displays. Excellent for improving flight planning, navigation and control of the aircraft.
Additional Information
The HA-420 is certified for single pilot operation.
The Elite & Elite S variants have made improvements to the range, maximum take off weight (MTOW), maximum landing weight (MLW), avionics and more.
*These are general specifications of the above mentioned aircraft. Please see each listing for details on their individual specifications, layout and performance.

Children Are Sleeping on Mats in Overcrowded Border Facilities (NYT) Migrant children are being forced to sleep on gym mats with foil sheets and go for days without showering as the Border Patrol struggles to handle thousands of young Central Americans who are surging across the southwestern border, some of them as young as a year old. Children are arriving in groups and alone, some of them clutching phone numbers of relatives scrawled on little pieces of paper, according to two court-appointed lawyers who are monitoring conditions at facilities along the border. Many of the children interviewed by the lawyers in recent days said they had not been allowed outdoors for days on end, confined to an overcrowded tent. “It’s an urgent situation. These children are caught up in a crisis,” said Leecia Welch, a lawyer who visited a holding facility for migrant children in Donna, Texas, that was built to house 250 people but which last week was holding about 1,000. More than 9,400 minors—ranging from young children to teenagers—arrived along the border without parents in February, a nearly threefold increase over last year at the same time, presenting the Biden administration with an urgent humanitarian challenge as it opens the door to children and gradually welcomes in families fleeing violence and poverty in Central America.
Automakers embrace electric vehicles. But what about buyers? (AP) The world’s major automakers have made something abundantly clear: They believe electric vehicles will dominate their industry in the years ahead. Yet for that to happen, they’ll need to sell the idea to people like Steve Bock. When Bock recently replaced his family’s 2013 Honda Pilot SUV, he considered—and then dismissed—the idea of buying an electric vehicle. An EV with enough room to carry his two dogs would cost too much, he decided. And he’d worry about driving long distances with too few charging stations. “I would consider it if the prices would come down,” Bock said, though leaving open the possibility of buying an electric vehicle next time. Opinion polls show that a substantial majority of Americans are aligned with Bock. An EV might be on their shopping list if it cost less, if more charging stations existed and if a wider variety of models were available. In other words, the time isn’t right. For now, EVs make up less than 2% of U.S. new-vehicle sales and about 3% worldwide.
A global minimum tax on multinationals? (Washington Post) Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is working with her counterparts worldwide to forge an agreement on a global minimum tax on multinational corporations, as the White House looks for revenue to help pay for President Biden’s domestic agenda. The effort, which would involve a fraught and challenging global negotiation of tax laws, could prove one of Yellen’s biggest policy legacies if it succeeds. It also could prove central to Biden’s presidency. The $1.9 trillion stimulus legislation signed into law last week was financed completely by additional federal borrowing. But the administration is expected to raise taxes at least partly to pay for its other big-ticket spending priorities, such as the massive infrastructure and jobs package being discussed by White House officials and congressional Democrats.
Stimulus payments are already arriving (Vox) Stimulus checks have begun to arrive in Americans’ bank accounts—just days after President Joe Biden authorized them by signing the American Rescue Plan into law. The speed with which eligible Americans are receiving their third and largest stimulus checks to date during the coronavirus pandemic—less than two months into Biden’s presidency—is a political victory for a president who was unable to garner bipartisan support for his bill, but was still able to swiftly pass a sweeping relief package along party lines. As Vox’s Emily Stewart explains, most Americans will be eligible for $1,400 stimulus checks: The full checks will go out to single people making up to $75,000 and couples making up to $150,000, and phase out at $80,000 and $160,000, based on 2019 or 2020 tax returns, depending on when people last filed their taxes. Previous checks phased out at higher income levels, meaning some people who got checks in previous rounds won’t get them this time. However, the legislation includes checks for adult dependents, such as college students and people with disabilities, for the first time.
Roughly 4 in 5 Manhattan Office Workers Will Not Return Full-Time, Survey Says (NBC New York) Manhattan’s largest employers are starting to plan for the post-COVID future of work, and it seems most of them are giving up on the traditional way of doing things. Just 22 percent of the island’s large employers will require all workers to return to the office full-time when they do eventually go back, according to a Partnership for New York City survey. Some 66 percent said they would adopt a hybrid model of days in the office and days at home, another 9 percent said they would not require workers to return to the office at all, and 4 percent said it would ultimately be role-dependent. Whatever model they choose, employers don’t seem to be in much of a rush either. Survey respondents said they expect just 45 percent of Manhattan’s roughly 1 million office workers to be back to the office by this September.
Here’s looking at you, England (Wired) The future coming at you: For the last two years police and internet companies across the UK have been quietly building and testing surveillance technology that could log and store the web browsing of every single person in the country. The tests, which are being run by two unnamed internet service providers, the Home Office, and the National Crime Agency, are being conducted under controversial surveillance laws introduced at the end of 2016. If successful, data collection systems could be rolled out nationally, creating one of the most powerful and controversial surveillance tools used by any democratic nation.
Europe’s vaccine mess (NYT) The number of new Covid-19 cases is declining, often sharply, in countries that have vaccinated a large share of residents. That’s the situation in Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Britain. Cases are also declining in the U.S. And on the other end of the spectrum is the European continent, where vaccine rollout has been slow, and new cases are surging. Europe—the first place where the coronavirus caused widespread death—is facing the prospect of being one of the last places to emerge from its grip. My colleague Jason Horowitz writes from Rome: “Governments are putting exhausted populations under lockdown. Street protests are turning violent. A year after the virus began spreading in Europe, things feel unnervingly the same.” As Eyck Freymann and Elettra Ardissino write in Foreign Policy: “Spring in the European Union is going to be dismal.” Bild, a German newspaper, recently ran the headline “Liebe Briten, We Beneiden You!”—a mixture of German and English that means “Dear Brits, We Envy You!” Wolfgang Münchau of Eurointelligence has said that Europe’s vaccination program rivals the continent’s budget austerity of recent years as “the E.U.’s worst policy error during my lifetime.” Over the summer, the U.S. was struggling more than any other country to contain Covid. Today, Europe appears to be in much worse shape.
Beijing haze (Reuters) China’s worst sandstorm in a decade caused mass disruptions on Monday as swaths of the country were engulfed in a thick, orange haze of dust and sand, forcing authorities to cancel hundreds of flights, shutter roads and schools, and suspend outdoor activities. In Beijing, poor visibility paralyzed traffic as residents posted photos of skyscrapers seemingly disappearing into the fog and compared images of the eerie haze to scenes in the dystopian 1982 film “Blade Runner.”
North Korea warns US not to ‘cause a stink’ before Seoul meeting (AP) In North Korea’s first comments directed at the Biden administration, Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister on Tuesday warned the United States to “refrain from causing a stink” if it wants to “sleep in peace” for the next four years. Kim Yo Jong’s statement was issued as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in Asia to talk with U.S. allies Japan and South Korea about North Korea and other regional issues. They have meetings in Tokyo on Tuesday before speaking to officials in Seoul on Wednesday. “We take this opportunity to warn the new U.S. administration trying hard to give off (gun) powder smell in our land,” she said. “If it wants to sleep in peace for coming four years, it had better refrain from causing a stink at its first step.”
As Israelis head back to elections, there’s a new twist: Democrats in Washington (Washington Post) Israeli voters, trapped for two years in a vote-rinse-repeat cycle of toss-up elections, are about to go to the polls for a fourth time with at least one new factor to consider: Their next prime minister—even if it is their old prime minister—will have to deal with Democrats. Since the last campaign, the Republicans in Washington that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has held in a bear hug for more than a decade are out. The Democrats he largely alienated are ascendant. In Israel, however, the Netanyahu era has shifted the center of Israeli politics sharply to right not just in tone but on substance, bringing once-fringe positions into the mainstream and posing a challenge for any reset in relations with the Democrats. Even centrist parties have supported recent calls for Israel to annex Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, and all but one of Netanyahu’s main election challengers have renounced the idea of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Like him, they are deeply skeptical of President Biden’s diplomatic outreach to Iran. Netanyahu, who is battling corruption charges in an ongoing criminal trial, is scrambling to extend his record 14 years in office by reaching even further to the right for new partners. He recently embraced the remnants of the banned Kahanist party, a Jewish extremist group that called for stripping Israel’s Arab citizens of their voting rights. His next coalition, should he prevail, would probably be the most conservative of any of the candidates’.
After a decade of war, the plight of Syrian refugees is only getting worse (Washington Post) Ten years ago, protesters clamoring for political reform in Syria took to the streets, hoping for change. Instead, there has only been ruin and chaos. The past decade has shattered the nation and scattered its people. More than half of the population was forced to flee. “The United Nations stopped counting the dead in 2016 at 400,000. Six million Syrians fled their homeland, escaping across its borders into neighboring countries,” wrote my colleague Liz Sly. “Five million are still stranded, barely surviving in substandard conditions. A million climbed into flimsy boats to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.” Even as foreign humanitarian aid dwindles, millions still languish in limbo in countries bordering Syria, living on the margins of the societies hosting them but too afraid of the grim fate that may await should they try to return. Conditions are only getting worse. “Poverty and food insecurity are on the rise, school enrollment and access to health care are shrinking, and the COVID-19 pandemic has wiped out much of the informal work that refugees rely on,” noted a recent report from the U.N.’s refugee agency. “People are at a breaking point,” UNHCR senior communications adviser Rula Amin told CBS News. While “the attention of the world has shifted from the Syria crisis and people tend to think that maybe it has become easier, with every passing year, it becomes more difficult, not easier for Syrian refugees.”

Auto tendencies of 2020: On-line shopping for, electrical vans and SUVs go off-road once more And sure main tendencies emerged, like a long-awaited embrace of electrical vans and a return to the extra-rugged SUV. One other massive development: looking for a automobile from the Covid-free security of your house. Here is a take a look at a few of the largest tendencies that formed the trade in 2020. Vehicles go electrical Over the course of this 12 months, one factor was clear: America’s obsession with pickup vans is way from over. However there was additionally one other attention-grabbing twist. New advances in battery expertise have made it doable to create electrical variations of those vans with out sacrificing energy and including an excessive amount of to the value, that means the as soon as gas-guzzling behemoths have turn into far more eco-friendly. Ford unveiled a new hybrid F-150, the primary full-hybrid pickup within the US market. It is a precursor to the upcoming totally electrical F-150. We did not simply see electrical variations of already-existing pickup vans, nevertheless. In January, Normal Motors was teasing Hummer followers with an advert through the Tremendous Bowl about its upcoming GMC Hummer EV, a hyper-aggressive electrical pickup truck. And then there have been a slew of different notable entrants to the electrical truck market: Lordstown Motors revealed its strictly-for-business electrical pickup that will probably be constructed at a former GM manufacturing facility in Ohio. Fisker, finest recognized for its deliberate Ocean electrical SUV, dropped hints late this 12 months that it is trying to make a pickup, too. Founder Henrik Fisker even tweeted a picture of a pickup mattress with identify Alaska written on it. Rivian, which had first unveiled its truck, the R1T, again in 2016, lastly revealed the truck’s pricing and particulars about its capabilities. All these vans will ultimately compete in opposition to Tesla’s radical-looking Cybertruck, which was revealed late in 2019. One motive electrical vans have gotten so common is that customers are beginning to belief the expertise, stated Kelley Blue Ebook affiliate editor Allyson Haywood. “If you’re speaking about an electrical truck, there are particular expectations {that a} truck purchaser has, whether or not it is payload capability, towing capability, off-road functionality or some mixture of these,” she stated. “If they’ve considerations that these battery packs usually are not going to outlive, you are not going to have that vary to do what you want that truck to do, they don’t seem to be going to be assured shopping for an electrical truck.” It additionally helps that loads of truck consumers are enterprise homeowners, she stated, who will take a look at the gasoline and upkeep value financial savings of an electrical truck. (Electrical automobiles value much less to keep up as a result of they’ve fewer shifting elements, do not require oil modifications and do not put on out their brakes as rapidly as gasoline or diesel automobiles. Electrical energy additionally tends to value lower than gasoline on a per-mile foundation.) SUVs return to being robust Crossover SUVs, typically simply giant hatchback automobiles with raised suspension, have been wildly common for years. Auto showrooms are overrun with them. However in 2020, the auto trade appeared to rediscover SUVs and vans that have been constructed extra for rocky trails than paved parking tons. Ford reintroduced its famed Bronco, responding to years of demand for the long-out-of-production traditional mannequin. A direct competitor to the Jeep Wrangler, the Bronco has a detachable prime and is meant for rugged off-road use. The Bronco Sport is a barely smaller SUV that is supposed for lighter — however nonetheless fairly critical — off-road use. Normal Motors’ first totally electrical truck, the GMC Hummer EV, can also be a part of this development. It is a 1,000-horsepower all-wheel-drive truck with four-wheel steering that may even drive diagonally if wanted. Not all the brand new SUVs are actually that robust, although. Many SUV consumers actually do not want critical off-road functionality — even when they do enterprise out to a campsite or a trailhead each occasionally. That is the place SUVs like the brand new Chevrolet Trailblazer are available. It is received barely rugged — extra cute, actually — seems to be and it is accessible in all-wheel-drive. Nonetheless, even Trailblazer Activ, probably the most succesful model, is meant extra for grime roads than no roads. That woodsy vibe can also be why Honda redesigned its Ridgeline pickup to look extra rugged, too. And Honda plans to offer the identical remedy for its Pilot and Passport SUVs as a part of an effort to let prospects know that, sure, Honda’s SUVs and vans can get soiled, too. This development comes, coincidentally, simply as coronavirus-rattled automobile consumers who’re itching to get outdoor and away from individuals, stated Haywood. Actually, she stated, it is principally a response to the near-ubiquity of crossovers that appear to be tall automobiles. “I do assume that when individuals purchase a automobile, they wish to have some sense of individuality,” she stated. Automobile procuring strikes on-line One factor that may be attributed to the pandemic was a surge in on-line automobile procuring. This was the 12 months that purchasing automobiles, identical to shopping for all the things else, went on-line in a giant means. Used automobile procuring web site Carvana bought 39% extra automobiles within the third quarter of 2020 than in 2019. Vroom, one other on-line used automobile vendor, bought 59% extra automobiles in that very same interval. These firms’ gross sales have been already rising earlier than, however “the pandemic has simply accelerated all of that, perhaps to the tune of a number of years,” stated Carvana CEO Ernest Garcia. Firstly of 2020, JD Energy started surveying new automobile consumers about their on-line experiences. Between January and April, when lockdowns have been in place in a lot of the USA, the variety of automobile consumers who chosen a automobile on-line elevated by 63%, whereas the proportion of consumers getting credit score approval on-line greater than doubled. On-line automobile procuring has removed from taken over the brand new automobile procuring enterprise, although. Even with these massive shifts on-line, paperwork-intensive elements of the method are, particularly, nonetheless being achieved principally in particular person. As an example, regardless of that massive enhance, solely 20% of latest automobile consumers received credit score approval on-line in April, in response to JD Energy’s knowledge. And solely 15% of automobile consumers received an appraised worth for his or her trade-in automobile on-line. Improved digital processes for these types of issues will assist, stated Christopher Sutton, JD Energy’s vp for automotive retail, as will extra advertising of on-line programs by sellers and automakers. “One factor that we did see that, I believe was very encouraging, is that the purchasers too went by means of the digital expertise did report a greater expertise on stability,” he stated. 2020 Honda Pilot vs. 2020 Acura MDX: Contrast Crossovers
Put one out for the old family members van. Just put it out of the back home windows with the vents, would ya? A generation of children will certainly never recognize church seats with seat belts in the rear of a tin-can van slowly petering across the UNITED STATE Rather, they recognize crossover comfort with personalized environment controls and USB battery chargers for all the touchscreens.
The 2020 Honda Pilot as well as 2020 Acura MDX are three-row family members crossovers from car manufacturers that are both owned by Honda, but are unrelated.[bmw soft close automatic doors manufacturer]
The Pilot is a much softer family ride, a minivan in every method besides the gliding doors as well as wayback windows for third-row riders to launch apple cores as well as grapes at cars behind them. The MDX is sportier, sleeker, and readily available as a fuel-sipping hybrid. Our TCC Score range ideas the Acura thanks to its conventional features as well as deluxe flight baked into every model. When price is considered the stakes align in a huge means-- and also almost every household thinks about cost when it's time for a new vehicle. So which one is right for you? Happy you asked. The obvious distinction for the majority of households taking into consideration the 2020 Honda Pilot and also 2020 Acura MDX will be area in the 3rd row as well as freight area.
The Pilot supplies a third row appropriate for a lot of kids and average-size grownups with nearly 32 inches of leg space, as well as 16.5 cubic feet of cargo room with the 3rd row in position. The MDX is smaller in both measurements: almost 28 inches of leg room as well as 15.0 cubic feet of freight space with the third row in place. What that indicates for most family members: The Pilot's 3rd row is a lot more usable, much more easily accessible (particularly with optional second-row captain's chairs), more frequently. The MDX is outfitted with a common second-row bench in all variations. The Acura's interior is predictably upscale for the $12,850 rate costs it commands over the Honda. The MDX gets common leather upholstery, a dual-screen infotainment system, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, as well as four USB ports. For even more money, the MDX can get sportier-looking attachments, better audio, rear-seat amusement, navigating, tonier natural leather, and larger wheels. All-wheel drive is an option on the MDX and also costs $2,000, other than on the MDX crossbreed, where it's conventional. That hybrid powertrain is an Acura unique; no amount of money can buy a crossbreed powertrain in a Pilot in the meantime.[get more]
The Pilot's adept in a lot of its equipment, but only in trims over the base Pilot LX. That version stubs in a 5.0-inch screen for infotainment and one USB port, together with fabric upholstery, 18-inch wheels, and also front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is a $2,000 upcharge on the Pilot too, other than on Elite editions where it's conventional.

TOP 20: THE BEST VEHICLES FOR THE FAMILY IN 2020 ACCORDING TO PARENTS MAGAZINE
Once again this year, Parents magazine gets wet by naming its best choices of vehicles for the family. Unlike last year, however, the publication is expanding its list of recommended vehicles to 20 (instead of 10 in 2019). Indeed, the magazine’s list this year includes a few additional categories, with the utility segment making up the majority of the models listed, unsurprisingly.
The magazine also considered the safety assessments carried out by the American institute NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). What’s more, the ‘family’ angle of the top 20 requires a test with child seat expert Abbie Patterson. Patterson, owner of the Super Car Seat Geek company, has tested all types of child booster seats in more than 50 car models.
Finally, automotive columnist Rob Stumpf, took the wheel of the vehicles in the child seat test to evaluate braking, steering, acceleration and a host of other parameters.
Without further ado, here’s the list of the 20 best family vehicles for 2020 according to Parents magazine.
Minivans – Best Value: Kia Sedona
In the minivan segment, Kia Sedona takes home the honours with the best value for money because of its more affordable price in its basic livery. However, the magazine notes that it is not possible to secure three child seats in the second row in the least expensive model. The automatic transmission (from 6 to 8 gears since the 2019 model year) is good for smooth shifting.
Minivans – Best Green Choice: Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
Chrysler’s representative in the ultra-family minivan segment is currently the only option (in the North American market) marketed with a charging cable. This rechargeable hybrid powertrain lowers average fuel consumption without penalizing performance, while the government rebate is not to be ignored here either. The Pacifica Hybrid will have to watch its back, as we already know that the next Toyota Sienna will be available with a hybrid powertrain.
Minivans – Best choice for large families: Honda Odyssey
Honda’s Odyssey is also an excellent choice, especially since the manufacturer has decided to offer its 10-speed automatic transmission on all trim levels. As reported in the magazine, the versatility of the Odyssey is unparalleled, as the minivan can accommodate up to six child seats at the same time. It’s also the most fun to drive.
Minivans – Best in all weather conditions: Toyota Sienna
Toyota’s Sienna retains its competitive edge once again this year with its optional all-wheel drive system. This increased traction is undoubtedly an asset when road conditions are more difficult, as is its powerful V6 engine, but the Sienna will have to count the Chrysler Pacifica among its direct rivals next year, the American manufacturer having already confirmed the arrival of a four-wheel drive version of its Pacifica.
Three-row SUV – Best Value: Volkswagen Atlas
When the German automaker launched the development of its three-row SUV, it clearly had North America as its target. The magazine was especially seduced by the affordable price of the SUV in its most accessible version.
Three-row SUV – Better Redesign: Toyota Highlander
The change of model for 2020 does him the greatest good, the former Highlander which had been in service since model year 2014. While the publication praises the new design, it’s also in terms of handling that the Toyota representative has improved, especially in terms of suspension. There’s also the availability of a hybrid version, which isn’t widely available in this group.
Three-row SUV – Best Choice for Large Families: Subaru Ascent
The Subaru Ascent joined the three-row seating party for SUVs about a year ago. Here, the fact that all the vehicle’s liveries are equipped with constant-drive all-wheel drive is meant to be an advantage over the rest of the pack, while the publication pointed out that there are 19 (!) cup holders on board.
Three-row SUV – Best Quiet Ride: Honda Pilot
The Honda Pilot looks almost Acura inside, not only because of its full equipment, but also because of its quiet ride. In fact, the Parents magazine article even goes so far as to compare the Pilot to the Honda Odyssey because the SUV is so comfortable. Unlike the minivan, however, the Pilot still offers the tandem of six- and nine-speed automatic transmissions. In this case, the older of the two (the six-speed one) isn’t necessarily a bad choice!
Three-row SUV – Best safety technologies: Nissan Pathfinder
Aging, the Nissan Pathfinder still seems capable of seducing a publication that mainly observes a vehicle’s family characteristics. Here, the safety systems are convincing, as is that horn blast heard after every drive where one of the rear doors has been opened before or while driving. This device reminds the driver that he or she may have a child – or even a pet – strapped to the rear.
Three-row SUV – Best Design: Mazda CX-9
Mazda is certainly not a brand with countless financial resources, but on the other hand, the design of the most recent seasons seems to appeal to the general public. In fact, despite its introduction in 2017, Mazda’s largest SUV has not aged a single wrinkle. The CX-9’s driving pleasure should not be forgotten either.
Two-row SUV – Best Quiet Ride: Buick Envision
The three-shield division has long been associated with the silence of its interior. The Buick Envision, assembled in China, is no exception to this rule thanks to the noise reduction system.
Parents magazine mentions the excellence of the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, but this mill is reserved for the more upscale versions. In the other trim levels, the driver has to deal with a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine and a six-speed transmission only.
Two-row SUV – Best steering system: Chevrolet Equinox
It’s true that the Chevrolet Equinox comes with a reputation for being poorly assembled and less durable than average. But since its redesign for the 2018 model year, the compact SUV does much better in terms of driving experience, and even overall quality. Parents magazine found the Chevrolet’s steering to be particularly precise, while its powertrain is powerful enough.
Two-row SUV – Better space for child seats: Ford Edge
When it comes to space for child seats, the Ford Edge is second to none, according to the publication. This allows for three seats, a rarity in the two-row SUV segment. The Ford Edge is also one of the most comfortable.
Two-Row SUV – Best Redesign : GMC Terrain
Best redesign award for two-row SUVs goes… drum roll – at GMC Terrain! Oddly enough, the redesign was completed for the 2018 model year at the same time as the Chevrolet Equinox, but hey, it’s the magazine’s choice! The article also mentions the more comfortable suspension on the Denali model.
Two-Row SUV – Best Green Choice: Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid
Two-Row SUV – Best choice for long trips: Subaru Forester
The Subaru manufacturer is often named on this list by Parents magazine. The Forester would be the ideal vehicle for expeditions, thanks to its standard all-wheel drive, roof rack and exemplary comfort. You could even add that the Forester’s fuel consumption has been very good for the past few years, a fact made possible by the adoption of a continuously variable transmission.
Sedans – Best Value for a Hybrid: Honda Accord Hybrid
In the arguments listed by Parents magazine, the Honda Accord Hybrid sedan doesn’t cost much more than the regular model, while trunk space is no longer handicapped by a battery stowed behind the rear seat. The Accord Hybrid is also not an unpleasant car to drive.
Sedans – Best in all weather conditions: Subaru Legacy
The manufacturer has made it its hobbyhorse: four-wheel drive guarantees superior traction in winter. The Nissan Altima has joined the Legacy’s direct rivals with an AWD system, but it’s not a permanent type like Subaru’s.
The redesign for 2020 has certainly helped in this case, the sedan can now be ordered with a more energetic 4-cylinder turbocharged flatbed engine.
Sedans – Best sports car: Nissan Maxima
This was its angle of attack when it was redesigned for the 1989 model year in North America. The Four Door Sports Car still stands out from its peers today because of its relatively dynamic driving dynamics. However, Toyota’s effort is worth mentioning with its Avalon XSE, a large sedan that is surprisingly fun to drive. In the United States, there’s also a TRD livery!
Sedans – Best Hybrid Sports Car: Toyota Camry Hybrid
Still, it’s surprising to see that the hybrid versions are now the sportiest in Toyota’s lineup. Even the Camry is no exception to this rule. The manufacturer continues to offer a V6 engine for the more conservative among us, but we have to admit that the hybrid leaning of the mid-size sedan is at least worth a try.
