Reminisce of the Golden Age
The dictator and martial reigns
In the innocent Pearl of the Orient
Where change is the main intent
A defense against communal insurgence
Thus, peace and order implements
Makes our economy immense
The public view is optimistic
As erstwhile administration substantially prolific
An equilibrium among pauper and aristocratic
Where Agrarian monopoly breaks
Social discipline commend by the critiques
As mankind become docile and holistic
As Iron Rule conquers, fluctuation transpires
Injustice nor violence acquires by the ruler
Were rape, torture, and unlawful acts makes us suffer
Society wakes up from being a serf
Society inflames, turns into fire
Converge to demolish the entrenched empire
A poem about the reign of Martial Law in the Philippines during the late Marcos Administration.

GAME SHOW 24 IS OVER
This Game Show was rather subjective as it turned out.  As “as many published pieces of Steve’s art that feature snow as you can find” had three parameters that were observed to be a bit... well... what do they mean exactly?
The three words in question were “published”, “featuring”, and even “snow.”
So “published” means essentially that fanart, personal sketches (regardless that they were posted on tumblr), and card alterations were not counted... so that cool winter mountain sketchfit didn’t count and Liliana turned into a snowman didn’t count either, etc...
“Featuring” may have been too vague, as a snow-capped mountain peak in the itty-bitty-back-most-background of an otherwise fire-filled piece... yeah... there’s snow... under a microscope... so, yeah, not really “featured” in my opinion.
“Snow” even got a little over-interpreted to mean “snow or ice or nondescript precipitate.”
I appreciate the desire to come in first... and that means covering as many bases as possible.  But let’s just say this...
My game... my prize... my rules... my way.
Let’s begin.
We have to get through a few of the pieces that counted for less than what I was looking for first.  I’m not going to bother with unpublished pieces... they don’t count.  As for the others, here’s the ones I feel simply, in my opinion, do not feature snow... and therefore don’t count.
Chandra not-ablaze, Fire Dragon, Hoarfrost, Katana of Fire, Kobi Sensei, Kodiak Attack, Setai Sensei, and Tawagato.
Contestants #1 and #3 selected 4 and 5 of these pieces respectively.
Next we have a bunch of those “snow-capped-mountain-in-the-background” pieces and such that, while having snow in them... technically... they don’t really “feature” snow.  I may have been inclined to count them... perhaps... if there was a tie-breaker at work or something.
Argyle's Hedonism Emporium, Mr and Mrs Dragonmaster, Death from Above, Finlay, Harue, Hida O'Ushi, Holly Windstalker, On a Pale Horse, The Nine Kami, and Whirlwind.
Contestants #1 and #3 selected 8 and 9 pieces from this group respectively.
These final group of pieces are where it’s at.
Age of Tyranny, Battul, Calvary Flankers, Ironrule, Moto Chen (EX 2), Share your Legends, Shosuro Ritsuko, The Night Children, Whirlwind Adept, and With My Last Breath.
All three contestants brought these pieces to their list... and I’m not surprised at their universal presence here... however...
Contestants #1 and #3 also included Lady Vox in their lists.  (I was going to go to the tie-breakers for this maybe up-for-argument piece.  (The white dragon infers snow heavily... but it isn’t really seen.  (although I do, in fact, also think it counts.)
But there’s more.  One more... and only one contestant brought it to the table.
This loading screen from the Playstation game Gex 3. Â Clearly published. Â Clearly featuring snow. Â This is the tipping point... and it belongs only to the entry list of Contestant #3... Perennial Game Show Champion Minion #79... Ascended #11.
(big shocker... I know...)
Your prize?
That playmat up there, from my personal collection, of Shosuro Ritsuko... signed by the man himself... but also signed by his sister and model for the piece, Kristen Argyle!
Congratulations!
Stay tuned for the official March 2017 Game Show coming soon to a tumblr near you.

The 459 - 60%
This is the 23 pieces ranked 184-206 of 459 in my ranked list of Steve Argyle illustrations.  The list is all of Steve’s work from Magic, Legend of the Five Rings, Warlord, Star Wars, and Dungeons & Dragons as well as a few other pieces here and there.  The list is not in rank order.  I won’t be listing rank order until much higher in the rankings.
This list is really not divided into meaningful groups other than the individual pieces being ones I generally like more than the last group of 23 and not as much as the next group.  That said I look at this list and feel like I’ve moved into a new area.  Something hard to put into words.  The move from “pieces I sorta like” to “pieces I like” to “pieces I really like” to “pieces I really, really like” is what I’m really feeling.  I look at some individual pieces in this group and feel the charge of “wow” is a larger step higher than between the last two groups.
That said, the thing about this group that first comes to mind is that there are a bunch of pieces that seem to fit Steve’s basic M.O. that I don’t see discussion about... that have seemed to slip through the cracks.  Like Keziah Firehair, Shiba’s Promise and No Pure Breaths.  Kishada’s Banishment, Lion Detachment, Lorik (HG), and Ironrule are notable also.  I think Daigotsu Iemitsu is the most well known of the non-Magic pieces in this group, with Kakita Noritoshi (EX) perhaps even more well-known among Steve’s L5R fans in particular.
Part of the reason I felt like making this list and discussing it is to introduce Steve’s fans to the volume of his work outside Magic’s fairly small sampling of it.  I was fascinated with it as I slowly discovered it and enjoy hearing someone say “Wow, I’ve never seen that one before!”
Of course there is also the elephant in the room, speaking of Magic.  The surprise many of you may feel seeing staples like Ponder and Hive Mind, pieces you know really well, being ranked so low.  I encourage you to have the knowledge of a few hundred of Steve’s pieces to compare instead of a few dozen and perhaps you may find how many amazing pieces there are that could change your opinions too.
I invite you to discuss.  If you want to see more about any of these pieces just add the name of the piece (with spaces intact… it will work) to the end of this address:
