Yeah honestly, the languages they know is smth I’ve been theorising abt for a while.
Cos Allison says she reads 7 languages, which to me says 1 language per sibling(s birth place). Which is backed up by Ben knowing Korean, Viktor knowing Russian and Diego knowing Spanish. But Five also speaks Ancient Greek which breaks the pattern somewhat. My only argument for this is that Klaus is canonically from Pennsylvania (aka English speaking) so maybe Reg threw in some Ancient languages for the hell of it (specifically so he could quote Greek philosophers).
(If we’re subscribing to the posters place of birth theory (which is fucking stupid - Luther is from Stockholm!! Stockholm?! Luther?! STOCKHOLM + LUTHER for FUCKING REAL?) then they should know these languages:
Luther: Swedish 😡😡😡
Diego: Spanish ✅
Allison: Primarily English but could be any number of languages like Zulu
Klaus: English
Five: English, maybe some Irish (Welsh five my beloved u live on in my heart)
Ben: Korean ✅
Viktor: Russian ✅
Which leaves roughly 2 empty spots to be filled, one of which is Ancient Greek.)

— Margaret Atwood, from “Sumacs,” in Interlunar
BEGINNINGS
Born In: Unspecified, Russian (Unspecified because Cass' father never told her where) Raised In Location: Unspecified, Ireland (Unspecified because Cass won't tell)
Current Location: Gotham.
Places Lived: Random places. She just lives wherever.
Nationality: American.
Background:
Her biological mother is from Afghanistan and her biological father is from Russia. She never met her biological mother, but her biological father was cool enough to give her her mother’s surname ‘Barakzai’ as a memory to her. Her father was originally going to live in London but he ended up marrying an Irish woman who he loved very much, and during that time, things were alright.
Even with the area in conflict during the 90s, he still made things comfortable and Cass still had a good group of friends to rely on and family she was comfortable with. She also adored her little sister. She was a surprisingly happy-go-lucky girl growing up, to many people’s surprise if they see pictures of her from this time compared to now. During her time in Ireland, she learned magic from her step-mother and was pretty great at it and gifted at predictions.
Thing was, she noticed that magic was a little buggy when her father used it so she always warned him of it. She wasn’t exactly sure why. But when she was seventeen, her parents died performing a spell that they did without thinking of the repercussions and it not only wiped them out but everyone in their small town except for Cass and her sister.
And upon this discovery, Cass and her sister hopped out of town and began new lives. Cass decided not to use magic often, but ended up using ‘fake psychic’ predictions along with real ones in order to make a good amount of money to make it to uni and to afford a place for her little sister to live since they didn’t have any other family to go to. And though she knew her father would roll in his grave, they chose London as the place to stay.
Cass stayed for a while and studied up until a grandma of hers reached out to help take care of her sister, so she could live her life. Cass did not want to leave her sister, but she ended up doing field journalism and occasionally took time off. It was during this time where she met John Constantine and found him to be rather irritating, despite sleeping with him.
The two ended up working together because he noticed some of the fake psychic predictions she made were legit and he also had noticed when she performed street magic for kids she sometimes did actual tricks.
He had warned her to be careful around kids, but then contradicted himself by asking her to help him with something. And she had helped him, and it ended up biting her in the ass and he ended up ditching her. Which led her to be cross with him. The two of them did not meet again, until later on when he’d warned her that her sister had been possessed by a demon. Which caused Cass to not only use magic again, but she was now open to working with John again.
Though she no longer uses magic often, and she uses her party tricks of fake psychic readings for her income and her books, she will occasionally investigate hauntings for people just to make sure what happened to her small neighborhood won’t happen to anyone else’s home or family – though it was not a demon’s doing and her parents’ own foolishness. Cause deep down, despite Cass’ serious façade, she just wants to help people.

V: The Phoenix Queen — Relta’s Reign [Worldbuildng Part II]
Tumblr media
The following contains some events and legal changes that occurred under Queen Relta’s reign.
Arranged marriages were abolished in the third year of Relta’s reign
Relta’s spouse, in sub-verses where she has one, is not the king/monarch of Lunaura. They serve as a councilor and ambassador, but do not have equal footing to Relta. In return, she does not have the same power as her spouse in their kingdom.
Trade with the kingdom that once belonged to King Theodore flourished after Relta won what is known as the “Lunarian War” in the first three years of her reign. They are now a great ally to Lunauz, with their new king’s heir, a young woman, serving as an ambassador in Relta’s court and as a foreign emissary in the Queen’s Council.
The matrilineal line is now the predominant one for the royal family, with the eldest child of any gender identity being allowed to be monarch when they come of age and their parent resigns. The only addendum is that they must wish to have an heir or heirs, the decision being made upon them hitting puberty.
”Baptisms” of the royal family became optional, as to allow for possible future dynasties to not be forced to follow the old laws.
Non-polytheistic belief systems are officially put on the books as legal, and recognized in the judicial system.
The approval rating of the monarch determines if their heir will become their successor, or if a different highly ranked aristocrat or politician in general will train their eldest child to become the heir. This is to prevent inbreeding to maintain bloodlines and to account for the public opinion.
There is an annual tour by the monarch(s) and their heir throughout the kingdom, particularly through the farther away towns where their faces may not be known. It is to familiarize the peasantry with their rulers, and to let them know they’re cared for. Relta enacts this as a law in the tenth year of her reign, after a lover of hers made her with child (by both their choices).
The monarch, if unwed, is allowed to take multiple aristocratic lovers. Sex with multiple people of “grand pedigree” is desired as to produce the most healthy heir possible. Marriage is optional for the monarch, and only done if both parties are in love. This is enacted in the fifth year of Relta’s reign.
The lovers of the monarch are required to be well-educated and politically aligned with the monarch above all else, as they have a privileged status being the monarch’s lover and having their ear during vulnerable moments. If a lover is deemed unfit to council the monarch, the affair is terminated with compensation given to the lover for their services. This was enacted in the eighth year of Relta’s reign.
A sibling’s offspring may be chosen as heir to the monarch if the monarch wishes for it and the sibling shares at least one blood parent with the monarch. This was enacted in the thirtieth year of Relta’s reign, when her younger half-sister’s eldest son turned fifteen and showed promise as an heir, being a beloved court member and charismatic with the intelligence and wit to back it. Relta’s heir, her sister’s child, is also the heir to her sister’s husband’s kingdom, so their second child became the heir to the husband’s kingdom - a better fit overall for both kingdoms If compared to real medieval kingdoms, her half-sister married into the French Valois dynasty.
The primary allies of Lunaruz include kingdoms comparable to medieval: France, Spain, Ireland, Scotland, Russia, and Scandinavia.
The Vatican is not allowed to send missionaries or emissaries to Lunaruz, as trying to convert someone is illegal. Relta enacts this in her twentieth year of her reign. Other religious parties are also not allowed to send missionaries seeking to convert.
A high priest/ess/ex is chosen from the royal family’s younger children to perform religious rites upon their thirtieth year. Relta chose one of her lover’s sister’s children as her high priestess, due to her being extremely devout to Lord Ares and Queen Macha. The position is optional, and the chosen child is given a choice upon them coming of age.
Religion is not mandatory in Lunaruz, but the mixture of influences the evolution of the kingdom up to modern times. Modern Lunaruz is legally secular, and no longer has a high priest/ess/ex, but the language, mythology/folklore, and overall culture is heavily influenced by the formerly present poly and monotheistic religions practiced. Separation of church and state is heavily enforced though.
The royal bard and royal jester are often also advisors and ambassadors to the people of the kingdom. Relta makes this official rather than tradition in her first year. The selection of the royal bard and jester is done by the common folk, and the last contenders are chosen by the Monarch’s Council.
Aliens, such as Asgardians, are welcomed in Lunaruz with open arms as long as they don’t wish to conquer the kingdom or enforce their will. If it is a peaceful visit, they’re welcomed and given a seat for an emissary in the Monarch’s Council depending on the duration of the visit. Intimate relations and breeding between humanoid aliens and Lunaruzians is allowed, but discouraged for risks of genetic incompatibility. The lifegiver’s status is prioritized. One of Relta’s successors down the line married an Asgardian emissary, and created the Great Lunaruzian-Asgardian Alliance around three hundred years after Relta’s reign ended.
Lunaruz has a great number of refugees, and developed a program to help aid them in adjusting to the society and getting on their feet. Relta “perfected” the program during her course of her reign.

this is copy-pasted from my tags but i got the all clear from op on sharing them where more ppl can see :D :
#to be completely honest most of his songs have at LEAST one lyric that can be seen in a lens of topics like these#to be fair a lot of his songs arent 'about' just one thing so thats why im not being like 'wah wah you didnt include x song on this'#but i do think its important to know like just knowing that about these songs listed here is like. beginners level lyric reading skills#like hozier has said time and time again that like hes all up for interpreting things in multiple ways#but just throwing out the lenses mentioned here is just like. actively denying yourself a good experience for no reason#hozier#like idk a lot of his stuff is 'about' a lot of diff things at once so its a bit hard to exclusively say its abt one thing or another#like for eat your young i remember him in an interview saying it was especially inspired by arms dealers and part of past colonialism#in ireland as much as it is just a vague 1% over 99%#with swan upon leda its not 'about' roe v wade being overturned bc they were far into the process of the song but it played a major role of#when and why and how he released it#and take me to church isnt really as much about the catholic church as ppl seem to think it is (because hes irish i guess they assume??)#hes said a lot more explicitly its about sex and humanity in broad terms and the video specifically was released as a critique of russias#anti lgbtq policies at the time#like if you want to say what its explicitly 'about' its better to use his words directly which is#"It’s about sex and it’s about humanity and obviously sex and humanity are incredibly tied. sexuality and sexual orientation#regardless of orientation is just natural ... the song is about asserting yourself and reclaiming your humanity through an act of love ''
this being the take me to church interview from march 2014 that i mentioned
but TLDR: this post is a GREAT starting point for getting more into understanding a lot of the intention hozier puts behind his lyrics but don't let it stop you there!! its honestly doing yourself a disfavor to not get into the sheer joy of the many facets music can bring to ur life! if you feel understood by his romantic lyricism then you see how his way of observing the world and sharing these observations isnt just limited to interpersonal relationships
Tumblr media
🙃 Regular reminder that while Hozier has amazing love songs, he is ALSO very outspoken about his leftist politics, specifically anti-fascism, anti-racism, reproductive rights, Palestinian rights and more.
Take Me To Church and Foreigner’s God are scathing critiques of organized religion, specifically the Catholic Church.
Moment’s Silence is about oral sex but it’s ALSO about how that specific sexual act is often distorted to a show of power rather than that of love.
Nina Cried Power is an homage to various civil rights activists from the US and Ireland and a call to follow their path.
Be specifically criticizes anti-migrant policies and Trump and his ilk.
Jackboot Jump is about the global wave of fascism.
Swan Upon Leda is about reproductive rights and the violent colonial oppression of Ireland and Palestine.
Eat Your Young is about the ruinous way the 1%/capitalism prioritizes short-term profit over everything else to the detriment of the youth/99%.
Butchered Tongue is about Irish and other indigenous languages being suppressed and erased by imperial powers.
If any of the above surprised you, please, please delve deeper into Hozier’s music, you’re missing such an important part of his work.

Delusional British Empire loyalists in belligerent mood, again!
By Stanley Collymore
What a load of undeniably, distinctively ludicrously and quite thoroughly embellished nonsense actually coming from you Daily Mail! So please, simply do stop this quite evidently delusional pretension, that our simply, cherished Britain still obviously rules the waves; when in clear actuality, what is left of our navy, truly and rather realistically, is barely a viable match far less so a distinctly, and crucially a specifically frightening one, for the very average modern day country let alone a very irrefutably quite well armed nuclear super power like the Russian state!
Obviously, a most pathetic story then regarding a British warship and a solitary helicopter chasing of a Russian submarine, which undeniably was specifically, clearly distinctly, even categorically so by the MoD's, patently honest, acknowledgement, effectively quite legitimately sailing in irrefutably globally recognized and international waters and specifically well over 100 miles distance in actuality, obviously from quite the nearest, British coast! But I surmise, that quite instinctively for Empire loyalists there's basically nothing more heartening, for simply significantly ingrained morons than obviously, ebulliently reading about patriotism: faked or otherwise, and particularly so, when Britain is self- evidently, in a rather dire economic situation! And just out of curiosity; did you idiots know or even bother to ascertain, that while Britain has a grand total of obviously, 19, 500 combat troops; in literally marked contrast the geographically much bigger Russian Federation, has in total, more than 375, 000 of them. Simply and quite logically saying!
(C) Stanley V. Collymore 13 December 2023.
Author's Remarks: The truth is that a British warship and a helicopter didn't chase off anyone. They simply, as they always do, shadowed any Russian submarine or ship before they eventually leave the area involved. To say that however on the part of the Daily Mail hack writers wouldn't make good headlines or get the empire royalist morons riled up and boost newspaper sales.
Furthermore, if this lot and others like them can use the excuse of freedom of navigation in the South China Sea where western warships are concerned, why is it a problem then for them and others who think like they do, when Russia does the same in international waters off Ireland? Unless you're a load of bloody hypocrites, which self-evidently you patently and most brazenly are!
Oh, and in case you cretins are speculating about me and my patriotism, before you start reviving up your noxious and vitriolic comments pertaining to myself, which will literally go through one ear and out of the other, I did voluntarily and of my own volition serve with the Royal Air Force, not for financial reasons or because I needed a job, as it was never going to be my full or only vocation in life, which specifically as my regular readers know was always to be an Academic, and why I specifically embarked on other jobs before I fully engaged in what I always wanted to do.
But speaking of patriotism, I'm absolutely certain, since I'm fully cognizant of how the minds of you armchair warriors and bogus patriots work as you scathingly and vitriolically castigate others you don't have the same sick mentality as yourselves. Oh yes, you'll cheer the Daily Mail and other right-wing rags for their presumably in your sick minds significant and laudable patriotism, just like your own you'll argue; except that you are the very morons who will always from the safety of your basements, flats or council homes as well as your more expensive homes, that will always defend Britain but alas on the part of those that dutifully and courageously do so, your defence of Britain will always be cowardly done on the backs of and to the last drop of others' blood but never your own or that of your family members and close friends.

Supermarkets forced to publish live fuel prices to cut costs

Business reporter, BBC News
Supermarkets and other fuel retailers will be forced to publish live prices under a new scheme aimed at stopping them overcharging, the government says.
It comes after Britons were found to have paid an extra 6p per litre for fuel at supermarkets last year as weak competition let them charge more.
Under the scheme drivers will be able to compare up-to-date prices online so they can find the cheapest option.
Driving groups say the idea, which is used elsewhere in Europe, is overdue.
Energy Security Secretary Grant Shapps said it would change the law to force retailers to share this information.
A new “fuel monitor” oversight body will also be set up to scrutinise prices on an ongoing basis.
“We’ll shine a light on rip-off retailers to drive down prices and make sure they’re held to account by putting into law new powers to increase transparency,” Mr Shapps said.
Petrol and diesel prices spiked to record highs in the immediate aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine but have dropped significantly since then.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has been investigating the UK fuel market following concerns that falling wholesale prices are not being passed on to consumers.
According to the watchdog, supermarkets were usually the cheapest place for fuel but competition was “not working as well as it should be”.
Fact v fiction: Five tips for saving petrol money examined
NI fuel cheapest in UK due to Irish competition
It found that:
average annual supermarket margins on fuel had increased by 6p per litre between 2019 and 2022 – equivalent to £900m in extra costs for drivers
Morrisons’ and Asda’s targeted fuel margins for 2023 had doubled and tripled respectively since 2019
Sainsbury’s and Tesco had followed suit and raised their prices, suggesting competition had “weakened”
increased margins on diesel across all retailers had cost drivers an extra 13p per litre from January 2023 to the end of May 2023
CMA boss Sarah Cardell told the BBC: “We’ve seen retail margins increase over the last few years. And that means that motorists are paying more at the pump than they would be if competition was working really well.”
The RAC’s spokesman, Simon Williams, said the extra costs for consumers were “nothing short of astounding in a cost-of-living crisis and confirms what we’ve been saying for many years that supermarkets haven’t been treating drivers fairly at the pumps”.
Asda – which was separately fined £60,000 by the CMA for failing to provide information in a timely manner to the investigation – said it was still the cheapest traditional supermarket for fuel.
Morrisons said its pricing was “extremely competitive”, while Tesco said it was committed to providing “great value”.
All of them have welcomed the idea of a price transparency scheme, of which a successful example is already in place and said to be lowering prices in Northern Ireland.
‘Rip-off retailers’
The government said that under its new initiative, drivers would be able to access live, station-by-station fuel prices on their phones or satnavs.
At present, retailers only provide price information at petrol stations themselves, making it hard to compare rates, although some websites try to collate this data.
The AA said it had been calling for this type of price tracking since at least 2012, when it first investigated similar schemes in Austria and Denmark.
“Sadly, it has taken more than 15 years for a government and competition watchdog to recognise this and do something about it,” said spokesman Luke Bodset.
Nevertheless, he said access to live pricing would be a “huge leap forward” and needs to be in place by the end of the year.
“Drivers will be drawn to the cheaper fuel stations and that will pressure other forecourts to bring down their prices, thus stimulating the level of competition that has been missing for the past three years.”
As of Monday, unleaded petrol costs on average 143.86p per litre while diesel costs 145.54p, according to RAC data.
That is down sharply from the record highs seen last July, but still above pre-pandemic trends.
The CMA is also investigating complaints that supermarkets are not passing on falling food prices to consumers.
It comes as food price inflation on items like bread, cereal and chocolate remains close to a 45-year high, at 18.3%.
Supermarkets deny profiteering, telling MPs last week the industry is “the most competitive we have ever been”.
How to save money on petrol and diesel
Watch your speed: The RAC says 45-50mph is the most efficient speed to drive for fuel efficiency
Switch off the air conditioning: Extra energy is needed to power a car’s air conditioning system and turning it on can increase your fuel consumption by up to 10%, according to the AA
Check your tyre pressure: Underinflated tyres will use up extra petrol. Check your pressures regularly, especially before heading off on a long journey
