[ad_1] Mumbai Indians will have 23-player squad for the next season. (PC: X.com) The Mumbai Indians (MI) had done most of their heavy lifting before the auction, using up Rs 75 crore of their total purse on retaining five players. Rohit Sharma, former captain, Hardik Pandya, the current leader, Suryakumar Yadav – India’s T20 captain – Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma all stayed, meaning that the auction focus was very much on the foreign contingent and finding bowlers to supplement Bumrah’s sublime skills. “We had four of our top 7 in place already, just needed to fill a couple of slots with the right complimentary players,” said Akash Ambani, the team owner, after the two days in Jeddah. “We focused a lot in this auction on getting our bowling combination right and I think we have achieved that at the end of two days of auction.” HITS  Though he’s 35, bringing back Trent Boult could be an inspired move. Back in 2020, he enjoyed his best IPL season in MI colours, taking 25 wickets from 15 games at an economy rate under 8. With Deepak Chahar, once MS Dhoni’s go-to new-ball bowler, also drafted in, MI potentially have a new-ball attack that could hoop it around corners in most conditions, leaving Bumrah to do his damage in the second half of the innings. Chahar has played just 18 games in the last three years though, and keeping him fit will be of paramount importance. MI have also taken a punt on Afghanistan’s Allah Ghazanfar, who could be the next mystery spinner to keep an eye on. MISSES  There was a time when Lasith Malinga and Kieron Pollard were cornerstones of MI’s title-winning sides. The present overseas contingent lacks that quality. Ghazanfar, South Africa’s Ryan Rickelton and New Zealand’s Bevan-John Jacobs have not played in the IPL before, while Will Jacks, Reece Topley and Lizaad Williams have barely made a dent in the competition. Boult has vast experience, and so does Mitchell Santner, but the rest have plenty to prove. They may not need to go spin-heavy at the Wankhede, but at other venues, the slow-bowling back-up for Santner and Ghazanfar doesn’t inspire much confidence either.   Overall Rating: 7/10 Mumbai were always going to be hamstrung at the auction on account of having spent nearly two-thirds of their budget to retain their stars. But they’ve still managed to bring in a new-ball pairing who could be lethal on their home turf, and a young spinner who could potentially make the sort of impact that Rashid Khan did nearly a decade ago. Jacobs is only 22, but his big-hitting prowess has already caught the eye in New Zealand, while Jacks struck at over 175 in the eight games he played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.  Pandya will surely have a more impactful season this time, with the captaincy furore having died down, and Bumrah appears to be better than ever. If Rohit can play as freely as he did in the two white-ball World Cups, MI certainly have the weapons to make a play-off push. To go further and claim that elusive sixth title, however, will need some serious contributions from that untested foreign pack.  Squad Batters: Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Bevan-John Jacobs. All-rounders: Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, Will Jacks, Raj Angad Bawa, Karn Sharma, Mitchell Santner, Vignesh Puthur. Pace bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Lizaad Williams, Reece Topley, Ashwani Kumar, Satyanarayana Raju, Arjun Tendulkar. Wicketkeepers: Robin Minz, Ryan Rickelton, Shrijith Krishnan. Spinners: Allah Ghazanfar. Royal Challengers Bangalore: A Journey Through the IPL Seasons
Tumblr media
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most popular franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Known for their passionate fan base, star-studded line-ups, and thrilling performances, RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons has been a rollercoaster ride filled with highs and lows. Here’s a comprehensive look at RCB’s journey through the IPL seasons.
Stay updated on the RCB Team Players List for the IPL, with detailed squad information and the playing schedule, in our extensive guide RCB Team Players List.
2008: The Inaugural Season
RCB had a rocky start in the inaugural IPL season. Despite having legendary players like Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, and Jacques Kallis, they finished seventh in the eight-team tournament. The team struggled to find the right balance and consistency, winning only four out of 14 matches.
2009: Runners-Up
Under the captaincy of Anil Kumble, RCB made a remarkable turnaround in the 2009 season, which was held in South Africa due to the general elections in India. The team finished third in the league stage and reached the final, losing to Deccan Chargers by six runs. Ross Taylor and Manish Pandey were among the standout performers.
2010: Semi-Finalists
RCB continued their strong performance in 2010, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the semi-finals but were defeated by the Mumbai Indians. The season saw Virat Kohli emerge as a key player for the team alongside star performers like Jacques Kallis and Robin Uthappa.
2011: Finalists
The 2011 season was another strong showing for RCB. Led by Daniel Vettori, and with the explosive Chris Gayle joining the squad, they finished top of the league table. Gayle’s incredible batting, including his 175* against Pune Warriors, was a highlight. However, they fell short in the final against Chennai Super Kings.
2012-2013: Struggles and Near Misses
The next two seasons were disappointing for RCB. In 2012, they finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Chris Gayle continued to dominate with the bat, but the team’s inconsistency cost them. In 2013, despite another strong showing from Gayle and Kohli, they finished fifth again.
2014: A Season of Change
The 2014 season saw a major overhaul in the squad and support staff. Despite high expectations, RCB finished seventh. Kohli and AB de Villiers showed flashes of brilliance, but the team struggled to find momentum.
2015: A Return to Form
In 2015, RCB returned to form, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the second qualifier but were knocked out by Chennai Super Kings. Kohli, de Villiers, and Gayle formed a formidable batting trio, and Mitchell Starc’s bowling strengthened the team.
2016: Heartbreak in the Final
The 2016 season is one of the most memorable for RCB fans. Virat Kohli had a record-breaking season, scoring 973 runs, including four centuries. RCB finished second in the league stage and made it to the final, where they were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring thriller.
2017-2019: A Period of Struggle
The subsequent seasons were tough for RCB. In 2017, they finished last, managing only three wins. The 2018 season saw some improvement, but they still finished sixth. The 2019 season was another disappointment, with RCB finishing at the bottom of the table again. Despite having star players, the team struggled with consistency and balance.
2020: Return to Playoffs
The 2020 season, held in the UAE due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw RCB making a comeback. They finished fourth in the league stage, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, they were eliminated by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Eliminator. Kohli, de Villiers, and young talent Devdutt Padikkal were standout performers.
2021: Consistent Performance
RCB had a strong 2021 season, finishing third in the league stage. They made it to the Eliminator but were knocked out by Kolkata Knight Riders. The season saw the emergence of Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker. Glenn Maxwell also made a significant impact with his all-round performances.
2022: Playoffs Again
In 2022, RCB continued their consistent run, finishing fourth in the league stage. They reached the second qualifier but were eliminated by Rajasthan Royals. Faf du Plessis joined the team and made significant contributions, adding depth to the batting line-up alongside Kohli and de Villiers.
2023: Building for the Future
The 2023 season saw RCB focusing on building a strong core of young players while retaining their experienced stars. They finished fifth, narrowly missing out on the playoffs. The season highlighted the potential of new talents like Rajat Patidar and Shahbaz Ahmed, showing promise for the future.
2024: The Quest for the Title
In the 2024 season, RCB aims to build on its recent performances and make a strong bid for the IPL title. With a mix of experienced players and promising newcomers, the team has shown a renewed sense of determination and focus. Key players like Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and young talents are expected to play crucial roles. Fans are hopeful that RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title will finally come to fruition this year.
Conclusion
The journey of Royal Challengers Bangalore through the IPL seasons has been a mix of exhilarating highs and frustrating lows. Despite not having won the IPL title yet, RCB remains one of the most beloved franchises, known for their passionate fans and star-studded line-ups. With a strong core of players and a focus on building for the future, RCB’s quest for their maiden IPL title continues, keeping their fans hopeful and excited for future seasons.

[ad_1] NEW DELHI: The question of captaincy in Team India's white-ball squad remains unresolved, but the succession plan for Mumbai Indians post-Rohit Sharma seems to be taking shape, with Hardik Pandya emerging as a front-runner to lead the team. Having returned to Mumbai Indians after a successful stint with the Gujarat Titans, where he secured an IPL title in 2021, Hardik brings valuable "leadership" experience to the table, having played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians' four IPL titles (2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020).Former Sri Lanka bowler Dilhara Fernando, who was part of the Mumbai Indians IPL franchise between 2008 and 2011, expressed his belief that Hardik is a suitable choice to captain Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya will play for the Mumbai Indians
As of right now, neither team has officially announced the deal, but it will be the largest player transaction in IPL history.
For the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, star all-arounder Hardik Pandya is expected to part ways with his present squad, the Gujarat Titans (GT), and rejoin his old team, the Mumbai Indians, according to news sources
The 30-year-old player’s salary of Rs 15 crore and an unknown transfer fee to the Titans are the only terms of the all-cash transaction. Hardik might receive as much as 50% of the transfer money, per to news report.
Tumblr media
The transaction will be regarded as the largest player trade in IPL history if it is executed successfully. Neither franchise has officially announced it as of yet.
In addition to leading the Gujarat-based team to victory in the 2022 IPL season, the all-around player was named “Player of the Match” in the match’s decisive victory over the Rajasthan Royals.
GT secured their spot in the IPL final for the second time in their first two seasons during the previous IPL season. They were runners-up in 2023, though, after losing to the Chennai Super Kings.
After Ravichandran Ashwin moved from Punjab Kings to Delhi Capitals, the 30-year-old will be the third captain to be swapped if the deal is completed. The second occasion occurred in 2020 when Ajinkya Rahane was traded by the Rajasthan Royals to the Capitals.
It was during the 2015 season that Hardik debuted. After that, he participated in 123 matches during which he took 53 wickets and amassed 2,309 runs with a strike percentage of 139.89.

Cricket is a popular sport in many parts of the world, but it has not yet reached its full potential in the United States. The introduction of Major League Cricket (MLC) is set to change that.
How MLC is Igniting the Future of Cricket in the USA
Major league cricket is igniting the future of cricket in the USA in a number of ways.
First, the league is bringing together some of the biggest names in cricket to play in the USA. This will help to raise the profile of the sport in the country and attract new fans. Big players like Martin Guptill (New Zealand), Rilee Rossouw (South Africa), Jason Roy (England), Sunil Narine (West Indies), Andre Russell (West Indies), Devon Conway (New Zealand), Dwayne Bravo (West Indies), Mitchell Santner (New Zealand), Nicholas Pooran (West Indies), Rashid Khan (Afghanistan), Kieron Pollard (West Indies), Trent Boult (New Zealand), Kagiso Rabada (South Africa), Matthew Wade (Australia), Aaron Finch (Australia), Marcus Stoinis (Australia), Quinton de Kock (South Africa), Heinrich Klaasen (South Africa), Shimron Hetmyer (West Indies),Dasun Shanaka (Sri Lanka), Mitchell Marsh (Australia), Anrich Nortje (South Africa) etc.
Second, MLC is investing heavily in marketing and promotion. The league is working to reach out to new audiences and introduce them to the excitement of cricket.
Third, MLC is creating a world-class cricket infrastructure in the USA. The league is building new stadiums and training facilities that will help to grow the sport in the country. In May 2022, Major League Cricket announced it had acquired funds of $120 million and much more after.
As a result of these efforts, MLC is manage to make a major impact on cricket in the USA. The league has the potential to transform the sport in the country and make it a major force in American sports industry.
Introduction: Major League Cricket
Major League Cricket (MLC) is an American professional Twenty20 cricket league. It started play on July 13, 2023, with six teams representing significant American cities and was run by American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) under a single-entity format only.
Major League Cricket’s inaugural season was played over three weeks in July 2023, with games at Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, and Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina.
In 2018, USA Cricket sought partners to launch a domestic T20 league by 2021, with the aim of engaging existing fans, growing new ones and developing cricketing infrastructure across the country. In 2019, USA Cricket accepted a $1 billion investment from American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) to support the league and the U.S. national teams. American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), a group of investors led by Satyan Gajwani and Vineet Jain of The Times Group and Sameer Mehta and Vijay Srinivasan of Willow TV will handle commercial activities for T20I and ODI matches hosted by the United States.
In October 2020, USA Cricket announced that it would launch Major League Cricket in 2022, as part of its “foundational plan” for 2020–23. The following month, the IPL’s Kolkata Knight Riders (co-owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan) announced that they would invest in American Cricket Enterprises (ACE), the company behind Major League Cricket.
Minor League Cricket Youth and Major League Cricket Youth leagues, coupled with an MLC Jr. Championship and player development program would serve as a development structure for younger players to advance toward Major League Cricket and the national squad. These leagues were announced by the MLC in February 2021. Major League Cricket’s debut was postponed to 2023 in May owing to COVID-19 and to give more time to build facilities.
It was announced in November 2022 that the inaugural MLC season will take place at Grand Prairie Stadium from July 13–30, 2023. Six franchises will play 15 league matches in a single round-robin format during the competition, followed by a four-match play-off phase.

Latest Indian Cricket News - Live Cricket Scores, Cricket News, Results & More
Tumblr media
Cricket is more than just a sport in India; it's an obsession that unites the entire nation. From the nail-biting finishes to the explosive performances by players, Indian cricket fans can't get enough of their beloved game. And if you're one of them, then you've come to the right place! In this latest Indian Cricket News blog post, we'll bring you up-to-date with all things cricket-related in India. From T20 World Cup preparations to COVID-19's impact on India's upcoming calendar and everything in between, let's dive into the world of Indian cricket together!
Latest Indian cricket news for 2023 includes the India national cricket team's tour of Australia. The tour is scheduled to take place from November 2021 to January 2023. This will be the first time that the two sides have played a Test series since 2017. India are also scheduled to play five One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Latest Indian Cricket News - India's Approach To T20 Cricket In 2023
India's approach to T20 cricket in 2023 is a hot topic among Indian cricket fans. With the ICC T20 World Cup fast approaching, India's preparation is already underway. The team management has been experimenting with new players and strategies to find the winning combination for the tournament.
In recent years, India has struggled in ICC events despite having a strong squad. The lack of success can be attributed to their overreliance on star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, things seem to be changing as younger players are getting more opportunities to showcase their skills at the international level.
India's approach towards T20 cricket has also shifted from being overly aggressive to more balanced gameplay. This change was visible during India's tour of Australia earlier this year where they won both the ODI and T20 series against Australia.
With experienced campaigners like MS Dhoni in support roles within the team, India seems well-equipped for another successful campaign in 2023. It remains unclear who will lead the team after Kohli steps down as captain but one thing is certain - Indian cricket fans have much to look forward to!
The Impact Of COVID-19 On India's Cricket Calendar For 2023
The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world of sports, and Indian cricket is no exception. The impact of the virus has been felt across all levels of the sport, from grassroots development to international fixtures.
The outbreak in India led to a suspension of all domestic and international matches in 2020. As a result, many high-profile tournaments such as the IPL were postponed or cancelled entirely.
Looking ahead to 2023, it remains unclear how much longer the virus will continue to disrupt sporting schedules. While there have been attempts to resume play under strict bio-bubble protocols, it's uncertain whether these measures will be sustainable over an extended period.
Furthermore, with so many countries impacted differently by COVID-19 restrictions and vaccine rollouts, scheduling overseas tours may prove challenging for Indian cricket officials. This could mean rethinking their approach to tournament planning altogether.
Despite these challenges though, fans can rest assured that Indian cricket officials are doing everything they can under difficult circumstances - both for player safety and preserving the integrity of competition.
The Rise Of Young Indian Cricketers: Meet The Future Stars
Indian cricket has always been known for producing some exceptional talent, and the current crop of young Indian cricketers is no exception. These players have shown immense potential and are set to become superstars in the future.
One such player is Shubman Gill, who made his Test debut against Australia last year. He showed great composure and technique during his innings of 91 in the second Test match. Another promising youngster is Prithvi Shaw, who shot to fame after scoring a century on his Test debut against West Indies in 2018.
Rishabh Pant is another name that comes to mind when we talk about young Indian cricketers. The wicket-keeper batsman has already made a mark for himself with some fantastic performances in both Tests and limited-overs cricket.
The fast bowling department also looks promising with the likes of Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Siraj, and Kamlesh Nagarkoti showcasing their skills at various levels. In addition to these players, there are several others like Devdutt Padikkal, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar who are waiting for their opportunity to shine on the big stage.
It's an exciting time for Indian cricket as they continue to produce top-quality talent from grassroots level all the way up to international cricket. With these future stars waiting in the wings, India's dominance in world cricket looks set to continue for years to come.
Rohit Sharma's Captaincy: Is It Time For Kohli To Step Down?
As India gears up for the upcoming cricket season, there are plenty of exciting developments to keep an eye on. From the team's approach to T20 cricket in 2023 and the impact of COVID-19 on their calendar, to the emergence of young Indian cricketers who could become future stars, there is no shortage of news and analysis to follow.
And when it comes to leadership within the Indian cricket team, many fans are debating whether it's time for Virat Kohli to step down as captain and pave the way for Rohit Sharma. While this may be a contentious issue among supporters, one thing is clear: both players have demonstrated exceptional talent and leadership skills over the years.
Ultimately, only time will tell what direction India's cricket team will take in terms of its strategy and personnel. However, with so much excitement surrounding this beloved sport in India - from live scores and results updates online to passionate debates about every aspect of play - one thing is certain: fans can look forward to plenty more thrilling moments on the pitch in the months and years ahead.

In 2018, Vivo came on board as the title sponsor till 2022; however, due to tensions at the border, the contract with Vivo was paused in 2020.
New rules in Tata IPL 2023
The BCCI stated that it "will preserve IPL's position at the forefront of innovative cricket and continue the growth of the T20 format" in a memo announcing the new umpire signal and rules of the Impact Player.
The BCCI has informed franchises that following the toss, as was recently implemented in SA20, captains may select their playing XI. Before the toss, the captains were required to declare the starting Eleven. Expanding the DRS's scope to include wide balls and no balls is another new regulation. The rules of the game specify that "a player may also be permitted to review any decision made by on-field umpires concerning wide or no ball."
The Biggest Change in This IPL is the introduction of Impact Player. This is how the rule will play out. According to the BCCI, “The captain will identify the impact player to the umpire, and the umpire will signal in the manner as depicted in the above image indicating that the Impact player is being introduced. Teams can name four substitutes, or impact players, in their squad for a match in addition to my playing 11. One of these may be used as a substitute during the match.
It adds, "The Impact Player can be introduced (i) before the start of the innings; or (ii) after completion of an over; or (iii) in case of a batter, at the fall of the wicket or the batter retiring at any time during the over (as provided in Clause 1.8 (iv) below). The bowling team can also get an Impact Player during the fall of the wicket, but that Impact Player will not be permitted to bowl the remaining balls in that over if the wicket has fallen mid-over."
Changed Format- 10 clubs divided into two groups
IPL 2023 Format: The IPL 2023 edition will follow the same format as last year, but the venues will change. The IPL 2023 format details are as follows:
Two groups of five teams each are created from the ten teams.
The groups and who plays who in each group once and twice were chosen at random.
Each team competes in 14 games during the group stage, playing the other four teams in their group twice (once at home and once away), the other four teams once, and the remaining team twice. IPL Points Table System: A team that wins a game receives 2 points. There will be no points awarded to the losing team. In the event of a tie or a deadlock, both teams will receive one point.
After the group stage, a four-game playoff series using the Page playoff system is played. In the playoffs, there will be four games played:
First qualifying round: the matchup between the top two teams from the group stage.
Between the groups' third and fourth-placed teams, in the elimination round.
Between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator is Qualifier 2.
Final: between the qualifier 1 and qualifier 2 finalists.
Chennai Super Kings (winners in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021)

[ad_1] Sanju Samson with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag in an event (PC: X) Rajasthan Royals went into the auction with a limited purse of Rs 41 crore. On expected lines, RR were cautious during the mega auction in terms of picking up players. They added 14 players to their roster. Jofra Archer, who has previously been one of the mainstays of RR’s attack, is back in the mix. The franchise has also added some punch to their spin-bowling stocks.  RR also stumped everyone by picking up the 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for Rs 1.10 crore. The young batter had recently cracked a quick-fire ton versus Australia U-19. Incidentally, they had retained six players before the auction – Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma. Hits:  Nitish Rana – The southpaw, who has over 2600 runs in the IPL, could form an integral part of RR’s unit. The middle-order batter, however, hasn’t exactly been among the runs over the last few seasons. RR would still trust Nitish to provide heft to their batting line-up, comprising mainly Indian batters. Jofra Archer – The England speedster was in supreme form in the 2020 IPL, bagging 20 wickets. Unfortunately, since then, he has been plagued by elbow and back issues. At his very best, Archer has a mean bumper, alongside possessing the skills to move the ball and bowl yorkers and variations in the slog. Wanindu Hasaranga/Maheesh Theekshana – With RR picking the Sri Lankan duo, they have some firepower in the spin department. Both the spinners have enough variations in their arsenal and generally bowl quicker through the air. The kind of skills that could come in handy at their home ground. Tushar Deshpande/Fazalhaq Farooqi – RR have further strengthened their pace-bowling stocks by buying Deshpande and Farooqi. Deshpande is a wholehearted cricketer and Farooqi is basically RR’s replacement for Trent Boult. The skiddy left-arm pacer swings the bowl upfront. RR also bought the young South African paceman, Kwena Maphaka.  Misses:  RR perhaps needed one more established power-hitter down the order. It is true that Shimron Hetmyer can give it a mighty thump and has done rather well for the franchise. He also cracked a blistering 91 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots recently in the CPL. But, somewhere, RR could have bought another finisher. Glenn Phillips was an option. Liam Livingstone also was in the auction list, but with their purse, it was always going to be tough for RR to bid for him. In that respect, RR could be looking towards Shubham Dubey, the left-hander, to showcase his pyrotechnics.  Overall Rating – 7/10 RR IPL Squad: Tushar Deshpande, Shubham Dubey, Yudhvir Singh, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Kwena Maphaka, Kunal Rathore, Ashok Sharma, Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer, Sandeep Sharma, Jofra Archer, Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Akash Madhwal, Kumar Kartikeya, Nitish Rana   The post Some mystery spin and Jofra Archer – RR’s top picks at mega auction appeared first on Sports News Portal | Latest Sports Articles | Revsports. Tata IPL 2023
Tumblr media
The 2023 mega auction of the IPL took place in Bengaluru in December. The most expensive player was Sam Curran, bought by Punjab Kings for ₹18.50 crore (US$2.3 million), the most-paid player in the history of the league. Ahead of the auction, all the IPL franchises published their list of retained players in November 2022. Some of the big names that were retained in the 2023 edition include MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Glenn Maxwell, Andre Russell, and Jasprit Bumrah. Gujarat Titans are the defending champions.
Tata Group retains as the title sponsor of IPL 2023
The IPL Governing Council announced the new IPL season after the IPL 2023 auction was completed. Aside from the promise to be bigger, better, and more enthralling, Tata Group was announced as the new title sponsor for the Indian Premier League. [ad_1] Ruturaj Gaikwad rose to fame after giving Chennai Super Kings a glimmer of hope at the fag end of their horrendous IPL 2020 season when he came off the bench in the final few matches and scored a few half-centuries. Gaikwad, who was originally drafted into the CSK squad in 2019, later emerged as a mainstay opener for five-time champions, forming a threatening pair at the top of the order with Faf du Plessis in the following season and then with Devon Conway as CSK returned to dominance in 2023 season. Ruturaj Gaikwad opens up on his captaincy learnings from MS Dhoni Amid the rise as a batter both in IPL and in domestic cricket, coupled with few opportunities for India as well over last couple of years, Gaikwad has also picked up a thing or two from the legendary MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy. In fact, following his experience as a skipper for Maharashtra in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after IPL 2021 tournament there were a few discussions on whether the youngster could later go on to fill Dhoni's shoes for CSK post the captain's retirement. And while it still remains a far off call from Dhoni and Chennai, Ruturaj will have the opportunity to prove his worth as a captain when he leads the Indian squad in the Asian Games, starting October 3. While most of want Ruturaj to emulate Dhoni's captaincy style during the tournament, the batter clarified that he would want to lead India the way he wants. "I got to learn a lot of things from him (Dhoni) but every person has a different style. His style is different, his personality is different and my personality is a bit different," Gaikwad told the media here ahead of India's first game. "I will try to be myself and not really look at what he usually does. Obviously, yes you have to pick out some things which he does really well, how he handles situations and how he handles particular players during a match. Obviously, these are (a) few things I really took from him, but I would like to lead the way I want to. I just want the players to express themselves and give how much ever freedom that I can." India will be favourites for another gold medal in Hangzhou after the women's team had clinched the ultimate prize earlier in the Games. Gaikwad and Co. will open their campaign in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday against Nepal. Gaikwad admitted that the players are eager to clinch the gold medal like their women counterparts. "Coming to the Asian Games, everyone is eager to win the gold for the country and stand up on the podium," he said. "In cricket, we have the World Cup, the IPL and domestic tournaments. We are used to that kind of environment and situations. But coming here and going to the village, we really got to know about the athletes — what kinds of struggle they go through," he said.
