I’ve tried to stay out of the covid debate, what we should, shouldn’t be doing. Mainly because I don’t know what the answer is myself. Plus I don’t like to get too serious, but it’s children’s mental health week and our kids are suffering. I saw a post on a mum site, which shall not be named but you know the kind, useful to find out what day the bin men are coming on a bank holiday, harmful if you find yourself losing 3 hours reading 220 comments on a post about about whether fireworks should be banned. Anyway the post was debating if playgrounds were essential travel. Well here is my pennies worth, life is fucking weird and our kids are adapting to shit they shouldn’t have to. They can’t hug their grandparents, they can’t see their friends, they can’t go play football, they can’t dance on a stage, they see the stress on their parents faces and hear the worry in their voices. They are hearing about death, all the time. They need something normal and that little time they get outdoors is their normal. They learn everything that is important from their social interactions, kindness from the friend who shares their snack when they dropped theirs, resilience from the child who is always picked last but still smiles, compassion from the child who gives an unexpected but needed hug and joy, they give each other so much joy.
