Lagoona Blue x Gillington Webber: For Better or For Worse?

Lagoona and Gil's relationship it's one of the most famous couple in Monster High, but not exactly the most beloved or popular one. This is due to their Romeo Juliet kind of Romance due to saltwater and sweetwater monsters feud that has been going for centuries, in this case it's Gil's parents.

He is from a traditionalist family that like most of their species have prejudice against saltwater monsters and have tried many things to make Gil break up with Lagoona, they even transferred him to another school once and in 13 Wishes diary his dad threatened to move out of the USA with the whole family, It's like one moment they are "tolerant and accepting" towards their relationship and the next they pressure him to leave her. But the thing that gets on fans nerves is how compliant and docile Gil is regarding this. Even if he did something about this and keeps saying how he can't love without her he is indecisive regarding choosing between his family or his girlfriend, which caused Lagoona lots of heartbreak and hard times. It feels like Lagoona it's the only one trying to fight for their relationship. Some fans say that even if they managed to get married after graduation they will only end up in a heartbreaking divorce or forced separation like the parents of Reon Inugami from the manga/anime Boarding School Juliet and that Lagoona deserves better.

In the 13 Wishes movie and Sweetwater Lagoona diary we got a glimpse of how hard this relationship dwells on her and even got a glimpse of the kind of people Gil's parents are from the dinner scene from Lagoona's changes in personality and loosing herself due to becoming the "perfect" daughter in law that his parents wanted and be loved by them. This was a true terrifying experience for Gillington. For me I think this also showed that the problem it's not Gil's parents but their prejudice and thoughts regarding Lagoona's kind.

This water monster couple showed to be the most freaky flawed of all MH couples, and I'm not sure everyone was happy how their ship got reinstated in the third reboot of the series. Even so, even if it's hard to admit it also showed that not every couple is perfect, and shouldn't expect to, every relationship has it's moments and imperfect flaws and we may never understand why people choose to be with or go back to someone even after the things they did or didn't do to/for them, or when it comes to fictional couples we may never know why the author chooses to make them stay together. And there were times, even if a few, where Gil had his moments of courage and not letting her down like in webisode Defending your Lagoona where he tried (in vain because some people are just too stubborn to change) to make his parents understand Lagoona and how he swan to meet Lagoona's parents despite his fear in Escape from Skull Shores. Even so he need to learn to be brave to stand up and fight for his romance and that sometimes when people become too much harmful they need to be cut off even if they are friends or loved ones. If it happens then it's their loss not his.

I'm not sure if the current Gil and Lagoona will face those same challenges in the reboot due to the change in the characters and story but let's hope not for the sake of Lagoona's fans. Do you think this ship deserves a second chance?
