there’s something really interesting about ng+ being kiiiinda relevant in volcano princess. It’s nothing out right glaring but you can see nods here and there which I love. The constant theme of “time” “time running out”, rose’s inevitable future and everything effected by her past, including YOU and how you played and how you view things differently with every version of your daughter and yet you love her so so much and there’s nothing obvious about the ng+ but yet you feel it so severely with every playthrough with every repeated dialogue with a character that seemed vague and cryptic the less you knew them but is now explained because you’ve known them 4 times over there’s something about ng+ in volcano princess

October Writing Day 2

Still using the BG3 Inktober prompt list. Just exploring those horrible Durge dreams the game mentions.

Who Are You?

He doesn’t know why he thinks a good night’s sleep will somehow bring back his memories. In truth, it isn’t something Kerric would have admitted to or perhaps even realized when he curled into his bedroll but some part of him expected, hoped, it might.

But no, sleep did not bring answers or peace or understanding, it brought something far, far worse. Rivers of blood. Piles of mangled limbs. A sea of dead bodies. And he was at the center of it all, smiling, laughing, breathing in the iron smell, letting it fill his lungs, the taste on his tongue making him salivate. All of it bringing him sweet, exquisite pleasure that spread through his body leaving him teetering on the brink.

He awakes with a start. His heart pounds in his chest and bile begins to rise in his throat at the remembered fragments of dream still lingering in his mind. But, there’s also no denying the warmth in his body and tightness as he shifts on the ground. 

By the Gods what’s happening to him? He’s too afraid to move, to get up and walk off the confusion of thoughts and feelings, unsure of what he might do if any of the others awoke and approached him. The dawn is too far off for him to wake now anyways, he would be of no use tomorrow if he did, but the thought of returning to sleep fills him with dread. What he wants is oblivion, nothing but darkness, for his mind to be as empty as the past when he tries to remember.

Another thought creeps in, it needn't be this hard, he doesn’t need to fight. His body knows what it wants, all he needs to do is relax and enjoy, one simple act could bring it all back, his hands know what to do, what they want, all he has to do is allow it.  

A sob threatens to escape. His teeth bite into his lower lip as he tries to keep it in. The struggle to keep quiet and keep the dark thoughts from overwhelming him eventually consume his shattered, confused mind and the oblivion he wishes for finally comes.
