The Importance of Preparing for Interviews
Here at Be The Voice Academy, we firmly believe that the voice is the key aspect to a successful interview. Having a pleasant and confident voice sets you apart from others, and gives people reason to remember you. It also leaves your audience with a positive impression about you. So apart from doing your research before the interview, and choosing the right outfit to wear, it may also be helpful to do some practice. It may be useful to record yourself answering potential questions. This allows you to see for yourself if your body language is ideal, and to hear for yourself the areas in which your voice could use some improvement. The Netherlands authorizes Ukraine to use donated F-16 fighters to attack targets in Russia
Dutch politicians follow the same decision made by Denmark on the use of the F-16 for attacks within Russian territory.

The Netherlands announced that it will allow the Ukrainian Air Force to use the 24 F-16 fighters it will receive by donation to be used in attacks against targets within Russian territory.
The Dutch Minister of Defense, Kajsa Ollongren, confirmed that the Netherlands will not impose limitations on the use of F-16 jets. This decision marks a divergence from Belgium's policy, which limits the use of its donated F-16s.
Tumblr media
In an interview with the newspaper Politico at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Ollongren said: "There is no [a restriction to the Belgian style]. We are putting into practice the same principle that we apply to all other supplies of capacity, that is, once it is delivered to Ukraine, it is theirs to use." She added that the Netherlands only asks Ukraine to comply with international law and the right to self-defense, as established in the United Nations Charter, ensuring that the jets are used to achieve Ukraine's military objectives in self-defense.
Ollongren and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin were among the senior officials who met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at the Singapore conference. Denmark also approved Ukraine's use of F-16s provided by Denmark against military targets on Russian soil. Germany has also indicated that Ukraine can use weapons provided by the West for its defense.
Tumblr media
Recently, the U.S. authorized Ukraine to attack Russian territory near Kharkiv using U.S.-suplied weapons, confirmed by President Zelensky's spokesman, Serhii Nykyforov, on May 31. However, Washington continues to restrict the use of long-range weapons for deeper attacks within Russia. President Zelensky has expressed interest in using long-range weapons, such as British-made Storm Shadow missiles, but the United Kingdom has not yet fully authorized their use, possibly awaiting a clear position from the White House. The issue has been discussed twice with UK authorities, but remains dependent on a broader international consensus, particularly the US position.

Paul Merton: ‘I stayed in one of the world’s worst hotels in China’
The comedian recalls terrible hotels in China, mishaps with malaria tablets and why he’s happiest holidaying in the UK
Interview by Nick McGrath
From The Sunday Times, 22nd February 2023
Paul Merton, 65, first performed at the Comedy Store in 1982 and since 1990 has been a fixture on the BBC’s Have I Got News for You, which returns this spring for its 65th series. He lives in London with his third wife, Suki Webster, his co-star on Channel 5’s Motorhoming with Merton & Webster
My first holiday of any substance was to a holiday camp in Hemsby, on the edge of the Norfolk Broads. I was eight years old and I loved it. I loved the space to run around and the people drinking beer and watching the shows in the ballroom. It felt idyllic.
I visited Ireland a couple of years later and got a lot of attention from my mum’s relatives, which was great for my performer’s ego. We saw the Ring of Kerry and I was charmed by the locals’ love of words and storytelling.
I spent most of the Eighties living in a bedsit earning very little money, so the first time I travelled further afield was in 1987, when I went all the way to Australia, with a heavy cold, to visit my girlfriend at the time.
The cheapest route was London to Sydney, via Athens and Singapore. In Athens, the complimentary coach from the hotel to the airport was full of boy scouts from Liechtenstein, who were on their way to Sydney for an international scouting jamboree. Being stared at by three-dozen hostile Liechtensteiner boy scouts is an experience I won’t forget.
After a two-day delay in Singapore, I eventually got to Sydney on Christmas Day with horrible jet lag and an even heavier cold, sat down to Christmas lunch in 35C heat, then fell asleep for 16 hours. It felt like I’d been kicked in the head by a horse.
I’d only been earning £30 a gig, sometimes £10 even, so holidays were rare. But as my career took off, I travelled more — including to Kenya in 1990, where I had a terrible experience with anti-malarial drugs. Back then you had to take a weekly and daily pill and I had a severe reaction to the weekly pill, but it took a while to work out what the problem was.
Each Friday, first in Kenya and then back home in London, I’d take this pill then start to hallucinate. I got these paranoid thoughts, where I believed I was being followed by the Freemasons and could predict the next song on the radio. Which I couldn’t.
I then went to places like St Lucia, but felt uncomfortable driving around in a rented Land Rover that probably represented what some people there might earn in half a lifetime. I felt the same visiting Cape Town.
I was lucky enough to film a couple of travel documentary series in India and China — and had totally contrasting experiences. The poverty was dramatic in India, but the people were polite and proud and when I returned to film in Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta, they found our earnestly awful attempts at Bollywood improv hilarious and gave us multiple standing ovations.
I wouldn’t return on holiday to China, as the state interference leaves a bit of a nasty taste, as does the spitting. You literally pull up at some traffic lights and a woman in a very nice car will open her window and spit on the road. Everybody does it. Maybe a popular Chinese film star was a passionate spitter. Or perhaps Chairman Mao decreed it a healthy habit. Filming while surrounded on all sides by armed soldiers wasn’t massively relaxing either.
I also stayed in one of the world’s worst hotels in China. The foyer had a tarpaulin covered in some unusually dark stains and the room had bits of wall missing and stank of urine. I moved to a nearby hotel which was equally basic but clean, at least, although the TV was puzzling. It had a single channel showing a military man laden with medals berating a group of people for hours on end while they looked shamefaced.
I’d love to visit New Zealand as everyone raves about it. Another place I definitely won’t go back to is Tahiti, which everyone imagines is a South Sea paradise, but for me, it wasn’t. The hotel I stayed in was completely overrun by cats.
These days I prefer British holidays, as airports in the 21st century leave you with a low level of anxiety. My wife and I now love travelling round Britain in our motorhome, which is basically a hotel room on wheels. If we all could drop the idea that we have to go on holiday somewhere that has guaranteed sun, holidaying in this country has a lot going for it.
Paul and Suki will be speaking at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC Birmingham, which runs from February 21 to 26 (ccmshow.co.uk)

Know The Importance of Career Counselling and Why You Need To Change Your Career?
Tumblr media
In today's fast-paced world, where career paths are as diverse as they are unpredictable, many individuals find themselves questioning their career choices. Whether you're fresh out of school, mid-career, or even approaching retirement, career counselling can be a vital tool in navigating the complexities of the modern job market.
For those in Singapore, where the competitive job market can be particularly challenging, career counselling offers an invaluable resource. Let's explore the importance of career counselling and why it might be time for you to consider changing your career.
The Role of Career Counselling
Career counselling is a service that helps individuals make informed decisions about their career paths. It involves working with a professional career coach who can guide you through various aspects of your career journey, from identifying your strengths and weaknesses to exploring new opportunities and making strategic decisions.
In Singapore, career coaches provide personalized guidance tailored to the unique needs of each client. They help you understand your professional goals, align your career path with your values and interests, and develop a plan to achieve your objectives. Whether you're looking to advance in your current field, switch industries, or start your own business, career coaching in Singapore can provide the support and expertise you need.
Why Career Counselling is Essential
Clarity and Direction
One of the primary benefits of career counselling is gaining clarity and direction in your professional life. Many people feel lost or uncertain about their career choices, especially when faced with a rapidly changing job market. A career coach can help you identify your core strengths, passions, and values, which are essential for making informed career decisions.
By working with a career coach in Singapore, you can explore various career options and develop a clear understanding of what you want to achieve. This clarity can lead to increased motivation and confidence, helping you take the necessary steps toward a fulfilling career.
Skill Assessment and Development
In today's competitive job market, having the right skills is crucial. Career counselling provides an opportunity to assess your current skill set and identify areas for improvement. A professional career coach can help you develop new skills, whether through additional training, certifications, or practical experience.
For those in Singapore, where the job market is highly competitive, staying ahead of industry trends and continuously improving your skills is essential. Professional career coaching services can help you stay relevant and competitive, ensuring that you're always prepared for the next step in your career.
Navigating Career Transitions
Changing careers can be daunting, especially if you're moving into a completely new field. Career counselling can provide the support and guidance you need to navigate this transition smoothly. A career coach can help you identify transferable skills, build a strong resume, and prepare for interviews in your new industry.
In Singapore, where career transitions are common due to the dynamic job market, having a career coach by your side can make the process less stressful and more successful. Whether you're considering a complete career change or simply looking to move up in your current field, career counselling can provide the tools and resources you need to succeed.
Job Search Strategies
Finding the right job can be a challenging and time-consuming process. Career counselling can provide you with effective job search strategies, helping you target the right opportunities and stand out in a crowded job market. From crafting a compelling resume to mastering the art of networking, a career coach can guide you through every step of the job search process.
In Singapore, where competition for top positions can be fierce, having a well-thought-out job search strategy is essential. Career coaching services can help you identify potential employers, refine your application materials, and prepare for interviews, giving you the best chance of landing your dream job.
Why You Might Need to Change Your Career
While career counselling can help you excel in your current field, it can also reveal that a Change Your Career is necessary. Here are some signs that it might be time to consider a new career path:
Lack of Fulfilment
If you find yourself dreading going to work each day or feeling unfulfilled in your current role, it may be time to explore new career options. A lack of fulfilment can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and overall dissatisfaction with your life. Career counselling can help you identify careers that align with your passions and values, leading to a more satisfying professional life.
Stagnation and Lack of Growth
If you've been in the same role for years without any opportunities for growth or advancement, it might be time to consider a change. Career counselling can help you explore new fields where you can continue to learn and develop, ensuring that you don't become stagnant in your professional life.
Misalignment with Personal Values
Over time, your values and priorities may change, and your current career may no longer align with them. Whether it's a desire for more work-life balance, a passion for social impact, or a need for greater creativity, career counselling can help you find a career that better matches your current values.
Industry Decline
In some cases, an entire industry may be in decline due to technological advancements, economic shifts, or other factors. If you're in an industry that is shrinking, it may be wise to consider a career change to ensure long-term stability. Career counselling can help you identify growing industries and transition into a field with better prospects.
Conclusion
Career counselling is an essential tool for anyone looking to navigate the complexities of today's job market. Whether you're seeking clarity in your current career, looking to develop new skills, or considering a complete career change, working with a career coach in Singapore can provide the guidance and support you need.
Lookinside Coach offers professional career coaching services tailored to your unique needs, helping you achieve your career goals and find fulfilment in your professional life. If you're feeling stuck, unfulfilled, or uncertain about your career, it might be time to seek out career counselling and explore new possibilities for your future.

Interview: “There is this thing called ‘Timeless and Endless Love’! ”—the humorous and captivating Hong Kong sports commentator Peter Wong Hing Kwei
“長情”(chang ging) is a Chinese expression which means “timeless and endless love”. Writer Honore de Balzac said, “True love is eternal, infinite, and always like itself.” “Chang Ging” is hard to find these days because modern people are self-interested. Everyone has too many considerations to look after.
Peter Wong Hing Kwei (黃興桂), born in 1944, is a famous and popular Hong Kong sports commentator. He was formerly a football coach and manager as well. Peter has served as the head coach of several top-grade football teams like Eastern (東方), South China (南華) and Tsuen Wan (荃灣).
His colourful commentator career covers working for television stations in Hong Kong, Singapore and other parts of the world. Peter is 80 years old. He is still sporty, energetic, sociable, and ready to work. Positive energy is attracted to positive energy and I want to know more about him.
Peter said confidently and pleasantly, “I stick to one principle in my life: being loving and persistent! In view of my family background, I should do business. But I love sports. Here I am! I have served the sporting world particularly football for almost 60 years. I never feel tired and bored. I am thankful for all those wonderful friends and colleagues in the sports industry that have shown me exactly who I want to be!” I asked, “You are a very popular idol in Hong Kong. Why do you often stay in USA?” Peter laughed, “Apart from football for which my love is timeless and endless, the other ‘love target’ is my mother! She is about 100 years old. She is a great woman and my role model. Not a kind of fawning over, I really want to take good care of her until the final day that we can be together. She is in America and so I spend a lot of time with her there. I cook for her every day. Sometimes the best way to a mother’s heart is with the food that a son makes for her!”
I asked Peter another question, “You are also well-known as a witty commentator with a lot of funny catchphrases. How can you do that? Peter thought about it and became amusing again, “I am philosophical! Ha! That is not true! I just want to please my audience and so I put in my two cents’ worth. There are no uninteresting things, only uninterested commentators. The ways to commentate a live sports game are important. For example, you remember the rules of the sport. You memorize the names of the players. You do good research before you are on the air. The other equally important thing is that your program cannot be boring. Your duty is to make the presentation as lively as possible!”
I consulted Peter, “For the first time in this century, Paris will host the Olympic Games. Events get underway in France soon. Spectators looking to watch the 2024 Paris Olympics will have plenty of options from different TV stations. How should they choose? What is a good or bad commentary in sports?” Peter kept up the mystery and said, “Well, my best advice is for one to watch our interview as follows. I will give them an answer!”
Don’t miss my enjoyable interview with Peter Wong! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u59ndJxk_F8

Delve into online resources, attend career fairs, and seek counsel from industry veterans. Reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, and passions to align your aspirations with viable career paths. Remember, self-awareness is the compass that guides you towards fulfilling vocations.
Once you've started your course, fortify your arsenal with relevant skills and qualifications. Explore certification programs, online courses, or vocational training to bridge any competency gaps. Additionally, consider seeking mentorship or career coaching to gain invaluable insights and guidance. Remember, investing in self-improvement is akin to sharpening the blades of your career ship for smoother sailing.

Leverage social media platforms like LinkedIn to showcase your expertise, connect with industry peers, and unearth hidden job opportunities. Remember, networking isn't merely about exchanging business cards; it's about fostering authentic relationships that can fuel your career ascent.

Learn to embrace setbacks as stepping stones to success and persevere in the face of adversity. Seek feedback, refine your approach, and remain steadfast in your pursuit of excellence. Remember, every setback is a lesson in disguise, propelling you closer to your career goals.
Exploring Career Options
Tumblr media
Before diving headfirst into the tumultuous seas of a career switch in Singapore, take the time to survey the landscape and explore a myriad of career options. Conduct informational interviews with professionals in your target industries to gain firsthand insights into job roles, company cultures, and growth prospects. Additionally, leverage online resources such as job portals and industry reports to identify emerging trends and niche opportunities. Remember, an informed decision is the cornerstone of a successful career transition.
Financial Planning and Risk Mitigation
Transitioning to a new career path often entails financial considerations and risk mitigation strategies. Assess your financial situation meticulously and create a budget to weather the storm of transition. Explore options such as part-time work, freelance gigs, or short-term contracts to supplement your income during the transition period.
Additionally, consider building an emergency fund to cushion any unforeseen setbacks. Remember, prudent financial planning is the compass that steers you towards financial stability amidst turbulent seas.

CPA without CA
While having a CA qualification alongside a US CPA can indeed open doors and offer wider options, it's unfair and inaccurate to say that a US CPA without a CA is useless.
Here's why:
Benefits of a US CPA:
International recognition: The US CPA is a globally recognized qualification, highly valued by multinational companies and accounting firms. With a US CPA, you can work in over 100 countries, including the US, UK, Singapore, and UAE.
Increased career opportunities: A US CPA opens doors to various exciting roles in finance, accounting, and consulting, not just limited to traditional auditing. You can find opportunities in forensic accounting, investment banking, corporate finance, and even data analytics.
Higher earning potential: US CPAs generally command higher salaries compared to other accounting professionals, both in India and abroad. The specific salary depends on your experience, skillset, and location, but the average US CPA salary in India ranges from ₹8-15 lakhs per year, with potential for much higher earnings in senior positions.
Specialized knowledge: The US CPA curriculum focuses on US GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), which are used by multinational companies worldwide. This knowledge can be incredibly valuable in today's globalized business environment.
Considerations without Indian CA:
Practice restrictions: In India, only CAs registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) can practice as statutory auditors for certain types of companies. However, US CPAs can still work in many other accounting and finance roles within India.
Competition: The Indian job market for US CPAs without a CA might be more competitive compared to those holding both qualifications. It's important to network, build your skills, and highlight your unique value proposition to stand out.

1. Communicate In An Authentic, Familiar Way
Marketing can appeal to Gen-Z only if it comes across as authentic. This means staying true to the brand’s values and communicating the relevance of the product or service to Gen-Z in a way they can identify with. Any forced efforts that go overboard to please will most certainly backfire. Therefore, be true to yourself, and do not appear condescending in your marketing. - Thomas Lim, Singapore Public Service, SportSG
2. Use Gen-Z To Market To Their Peers
A common marketing mistake is conforming to the “new normal” only at the surface level to appeal to Gen-Z. A better approach would be to use Gen-Z to market to their peers by taking advantage of individuals and trends that are popular among them. For organic marketing, it is also important that organizations represent values that appeal to Gen-Z, such as prioritizing mental health and work-life balance. - Adaora Ayoade, EZ37 Solutions
3. Appeal To What Matters Most To Them
The most powerful marketing for Gen-Z will appeal to what matters most to them. If Gen-Z is all about finding meaning and being entrepreneurial and financial- and career-minded, marketers have what is needed. In adopting authentic marketing, you make Gen-Z strong allies. This requires overcoming a difficult dilemma in mainstream marketing: how to maintain authenticity and transparency.
4. Live Values Of Purpose, Lived Experience And Equity
We must remember that this is the generation that grew up with the climate crisis, racial injustice and school shootings as mainstream issues and part of their everyday lives. They care deeply about purpose, lived experience and equity. The companies living those values are the ones that will market themselves most organically to Gen-Z. If you can’t walk that walk, Gen-Z will walk the other way. - Randi Braun,Something Major
5. Make Your Business Unique In The Value It Adds
If you haven’t yet realized that you are meant to be marketing mostly to Gen-Z to ensure the relevance and sustainability of your business, you are quite far removed from reality. There is no need to be inauthentic. If your business is truly unique in the value it adds to the world and leads with purpose, your marketing campaigns will resonate, or you’ll get key feedback to encourage change. - Arthi Rabikrisson, Prerna Advisory
6. Incorporate Visual Platforms Into Your Strategies
Given Gen-Z’s appetite for short-form video content, consider incorporating visual platforms into your strategies and developing bite-size pieces of content, such as TikToks and Instagram Stories. Short-form video that uses overlays, visual effects and music has proven successful with this audience. -Joshua Miller, Joshua Miller Executive Coaching
7. Create Entertaining, Interactive Content
Create entertaining and interactive content. For example, polls, contests, questions and so forth do very well with Gen-Z because they like to engage and will be more interested in your marketing. - Jacquelyn Van Tuyl, Jacquelyn Van Tuyl International
8. Partner With Gen-Z In A Co-Creative Manner
Marketers need to stop pushing what they want for Gen-Z and instead partner with them in a co-creative manner, bringing them along with the company on its journey. Localize your efforts and messaging to allow Gen-Z to feel that their thoughts and contributions played a part in shaping the future of the company. Be involved in their world and have truly authentic and genuine conversations. - Jedidiah Alex Koh, Coaching Changes Lives
9. Ask Them To Participate In Your Marketing
Ask them to participate in your marketing in an authentic way. Interview them on video, share their tweets about your product (good and bad) and have ways to interact with them—not just through your PR team, but through your own top Gen-Z customers or Gen-Z employees. Authenticity matters most here so be real. Share, interact, record, report, retort and respond. This transparency will create real bonds. - John M. O’Connor, Career Pro Inc.
