My comp is restarting from time to time.
Voltages seem to be a bit off. I’m worrying it may be PSU dying. It’s 5 years old and from a bad producer, after all D: .

Animation // Week 14
The Assets for the scenario that plays before we explain the use of the website and the walkthrough of it.
Assets in context of the rest of the background and video.
I’ve tried my best to match the assets in and out of the video together. It’s tough but it feels consistent among the 3 different designers that were creating graphics for the UI.

Reflection
Being an intern at the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation (HLAF) has got to be one of the most exciting and most fulfilling experiences I have ever had in my life. With my one-month stay in the organization, I got to participate in jail visits and case consultations and go to courts for case follow-ups. I even had the opportunity to attend Kumustahan 2018 and meet and take pictures with distinguished guests. However, for me, the most memorable (and my favorite) part of the internship has to be the jail visits.
Through these visits and the succeeding case consultations, I have the opportunity to hear the other side of the story. The media may portray them in the harshest light, but their perspective on what happened reminded me that they too, are just ordinary people who had ordinary lives, dreams, jobs and aspirations before their arrest. Despite their bad reputation, they deserve and are entitled to the same type of justice bestowed to everybody else. Their crimes do not negate their right for a fair and just trial and certainly not their right to be treated decently.
Through the case consultations, I have witnessed first-hand just how inefficient and slow the country’s justice system is. In the countless interviews we have conducted, the recurring problems seems to have something to do with the system itself. It is either that these PDLs have no schedule set for their next meeting and/or hearings always get rescheduled due to absences from either the judge/prosecutor/lawyer/complainant.
As we all know, the Philippine judiciary is not only terribly understaffed but also overworked. However, prior to HLAF, I did not understand just how understaffed and how overworked they were. In one of our jail visits, it was mentioned that a PAO lawyer handles about 500 cases daily. With that many cases, a lawyer cannot possibly attend to them all, let alone properly defend their client. On the other hand, judges are also scarce. As I have mentioned above, most of the prisoners’ hearings are suspended and rescheduled at a later date as the judge/ lawyer/ prosecutor attends a seminar/convention/etc. Furthermore, their job rotations also affect the process. A number of PDLs have cited that their cases have not been given attention since their old judge and/or PAO lawyer has been assigned to another branch. This further slows down the process as the new judges and lawyers have to orient themselves on the cases they are now handling.
A problem also exists in the rehabilitation treatment. Some PDLs have waited for months just to go the rehab centers; however, they are unable to do so since these centers are already full. Another problem also exists in information dissemination. Take for example, the new guidelines regarding the plea bargaining for cases under RA 9165. According to the PDLs, some judges and lawyers do not even know that plea bargaining is already available. Moreover, some court branches are selective in granting their plea bargaining. For example, court branch A accepts the plea bargain of the accused charged for violating section 14 of RA 9165. However, the PDL’s co-accused whose case is assigned in court branch B was denied of the plea bargain despite having the same case. As a result, PDL A is already free while PDL B remains in jail.
However, despite the slow and inefficient process, HLAF tirelessly does its best in their job. As I have mentioned in one journal entry, HLAF has three programs- Jail Decongestion (JD) program, Focused Reintegration of Ex-Detainees (FRED) program and lastly, the Center for Restorative Action (CRA) program. In the JD Program, HLAF is exerting its very best to release as many PDLs they can and free up jail space. On the other hand, HLAF’s FRED program assists soon-to-be-released PDLs by equipping them with values and life skills that can help them in their lives upon and after release. Moreover, the CRA program is an avenue to uphold the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act (JJWA) and is mostly concerned with cases involving Children in Conflict with the Law (CCL). With this, HLAF has conducted countless forums, symposiums, and trainings in various barangays and communities.
As one can see, these are all time-consuming programs. Being their intern, I can certainly say HLAF’s jobs are no joke. However, I understand why the organization still tirelessly continues their advocacy. Through these programs, HLAF is able to reach out and make a difference in the lives of these people. Their smiles and their messages of thanks are more than enough. Hence, I am absolutely thankful for HLAF for accepting me to be one of their interns. It was such a surreal and wholesome experience. The JD team as well as my fellow interns have certainly taught me a lot regarding the country’s justice system. Because of them, I was able to go to courts and experience case follow-ups. I got to interact with government employees who answered all of my queries. I got to see the reality of the country’s jail situation and learn a lot regarding the law and judiciary process. I was able to talk with numerous PDLs and hear tons of stories. Most of all, I was given the opportunity and the avenue to give back and serve the people.
Thank you so much for the wonderful experience HLAF! Kudos to all the people that created, supported and still supporting this organization! 😊

Proud to announce that I will be interning for KSUX 105.7 FM this summer. I have been told that I will be writing for their website. I did already announce this last weekend, but I thought I would make a dedicated post to it now because why not, right? Can’t wait to see what opportunities this brings! #KSUX #Radio #FMRadio #Intern #Internship #Internship2018 #Writer #Blogger #JournalismMajor #Summer #Summer2018 (at Sioux City, Iowa)

Okay, my learning streak has finally ended, at 14 this time, breaking the previous record of 9.
Haven’t done any progress on the Responsive Web Design Certification (300 hours) projects since Monday. Just did JavaScript challenges to keep up the streak.
Yesterday I couldn’t concentrate and couldn’t solve the newest challenge because I couldn’t understand the examples and only did this this morning (was active during night) which was more than 24 hours since the last challenge completed.
But still the streak was much longer than all previous ones.
I finished 5/7 of the Basic JavaScript part of the Javascript Algorithms And Data Structures Certification (300 hours) course on freeCodeCamp. I’m pretty sure the course is much longer than the web design one. I think it was 120 hours long, not 300 hours and this one will probably be longer than 300 hours. Though maybe I’m simply doing much less per day with it.

Continuing my internship. Was trying to make a simple page yesterday.
It was supposed to have pink body, indigo wrapper and for start a header and three sections with content. As a R.O.U.S., Indigo, I like that colour.
Turned out that I don’t understand how the boxes work. The wrapper covered only the header. It was one of these moments when one learns something and then realises one doesn’t have a solid grasp on how it all works.
First, I just set height of the wrapper, but it didn’t really solve the problem.
Then I remembered reading about some positioning settings making elements not count as blocks and stuff like that and I checked what happens when I comment out the float property. It turned out that indeed, float causes the browser to treat the blocks as non-existent.
So, I looked into HTML and CSS: Design and Build Websites and saw that indeed, the float property causes parent elements to be treated as if the floating element isn’t there unless there’s another element after it.
It turns out one needs to set overflow value of the parent element to auto. This made the wrapper display correctly.
Also, got back to learning GIMP with The Artist's Guide to GIMP, 2nd Edition: Creative Techniques for Photographers, Artists, and Designers. I need to learn to make textures and stuff, besides buttons, banners, etc.
I realised that I keep getting stuck because I don’t learn enough stuff concurrently which leads to having periods of not doing almost anything when hitting a roadblock with specific subject - in this case CSS graphics/animations in Responsive Web Design course on freeCodeCamp.
Also, need to get back to learning JavaScript.
I think the part of the internship where I’ll make a company website for my mother’s company is probably still, like, a month away because I don’t have a solid grasp on the basics.
It’s not easy to be a R.O.U.S., Indigo!

UI Finalised // Week 13
This is the UI We’re proposing to the clients. It’s very clean and very contrasted yet simple. The colour palette appeals to a younger audience and that’s beneficial for the clinic.

Colour and Script // Week 12
These are a select few colour schemes I came up with but there was some conflict on what ones looked best. Turms out the clients liked the top right one best.
We also decided to confirm a script for them too and have them record and send it back to us as the experience of watching the video and their patients heard a friendly voice would be a relief but also make the experience there feel very personalised.
Script:
“Are you feeling overwhelmed?
Does everything feel like an effort?
Always tired?
There may be a reason for it. This bucket concept may help breakdown and let you understand why. It’s a visual representation of your mental capacity for how much you’re able to handle.
First off with this website you’ll need to fill out your name.
Next we’ll move onto the stressor list
Add struggles and issues you’re currently facing or things that may be relevant to your stress levels. This may be past experiences or potential events.
From here we move on to add them into the bucket. This will pop out a new panel with options to help you categorise. Past. Current and Future. By selecting one or more it will appear in the bucket.
You can also add some comments and adjust the water levels for that stressor with the sliders.
Back on the list of the stressors we have an icon that pop up on the side to indicate the categories you may have put them in.
Once you’ve finished and your bucket is full of your personal matters you may realise that it’s quite full and that’s perfectly normal.
Now it comes to the stress relievers. Who and how can things help you destress and get you relaxed?
How effective is it?
What are some behavioural traits that you have when the stress adds up?
Lack of sleep, for example? Add them all here.
When you’re finished you’ll see this screen. It’s the home screen. It’ll be a compilation of all the previous lists that you can adjust at any time.
We also have the menu in the top left corner. Here you can load… (Pause) save … (Pause) and reset the buckets. These ones are pretty self-explanatory.
Capture, on the other hand, will save what your home page has with clearly labeled lists and your bucket.
And that’s all you need to know to get started. 🙂”

Meet 4 - Mock up Presentation // Week 11
We met up with Richard again and went over a lot of the works we had. The mock up he’s seen is very pleased with. We gave him some Options to work with. The walkthrough is very easy for him to navigate. He knew what most things did and this was a very positive outcome for us. We just needed to finalise colour as Winnie’s version was very dull compared to mine. What makes it tough is that we wanted a colour palette that the clinicians were happy with.

Website Animations Prototype // Week 10
We all worked to find ways to create an engaging experience through the UI interface as it would make it feel so progressive.
Elkie’s initial idea of having a gif like animation at the beginning/ on the splash page would make it fun for users. It’s a great way for us to display others struggling without disclosing their information. Also having a few example bucket that is full of different stress is a good way to help some of the users/ patients see what potentials they have of using their own buckets. Gives them reminders but also helps them normalise a lot of their own issues.
We’re talking about making some of the screens having a parallax effect that allows us to carry that engaging experience all the way through.

Experiencing a sort of despair today.
Finally got to pay for the last month of the internship. Which was good, because August was really shitty for my mother’s company and we actually ran out of cash at this point (including the savings from the previous two months of the internship - having to buy the comp on credit).
Bad side is that it’s the last real income I had for I don’t know how long. I need to try to get another internship so that I could finish learning and start trying to get commissions at some point.
It’s not that bad because now my mother has a lot of work (part of the problems in August were due to clerks going on vacations and not giving enough commissions) for next month or two. Then, the scary part of the year with trying to get new contracts will start D: .
Anyway, got 1/5 of the stipend for myself. The rest will go for current living. I was agonizing what to buy. There’s so much things I want, like books and stuff and it’s very hard to decide. It’s the last time in a very long time I’ll have this kind of money.
Eventually, I decided to donate 1/4 of it to a person in need and finally bought myself I Am Providence: The Life and Times of H. P. Lovecraft (UNABRIDGED) which I was considering buying since the first month of the course/internship. I was actually planning to buy Wh40k: Kill Team miniatures wargame to try to network with people at store because apparently networking is important for a freelancer, but first, I find it very hard to interact with new people in such environment and second, I just don’t have energy to glue together and paint all the miniatures too.
It made me feel somewhat better. Like trying to make a difference for someone. I think it feels somewhat better than buying anything. Especially that I have so many unread books. I have trouble reading lately. Even can’t get to read action books that usually are easy to read. Also, too many war-themed books. I’m getting into that area of obsession with military to the point of exhaustion. So, getting to read about a writer may help.
All the events of the last few weeks - ending internship, having to edit my blogs due to new rules, losing the old computer, etc. have seriously shook me up.
Also waiting for items for unpredictable amounts of time and worrying in what state they will arrive just adds suffering. I miss 2008-2011 when I could order stuff from England and have it arrive intact within one week :( . I mean, I used to collect boxed games from 80s and 90s back then. If the postal services would work like now, they’d arrive mangled in up to a month half of the time.
It boosted my morale significantly, even managed to take a shower today - I’m usually too exhausted to do it before going to sleep last few months.
Generally, last days were full of disappointments. I tried running some games I have - mainly Unity engine games on the new comp and they are still choppy as hell, barely playable and frustrating to play. I know that for some people it happens even on newest hardware. It’s because the Unity engine has horrible performance problems.
Tried ArmA 2 too to see if I will finally be able to play it normally. Well, it works normally on lowest detail setting which looks horrible and on all other it has like 10-20fps. What? The processor I got wasn’t even released when the game came out, graphics card, is, like, few years newer too. It’s pure bullshit!
But ArmA series are another one which are infamous for stuff like that.
I can’t get my scanner to work on the new Linux Mint release I installed, so I can’t scan my works, which sucks.
Windows 10 is horrible. The interface is obnoxious and constant demands for various stuff are creepy. Reminds me why I stopped using Windows after Windows 98.
I can’t help an impression that the world is turning to shit. More and more stuff is becoming so lousy....
Postal services, operation systems, the flood of Chinese-made crap reeking of chemicals, even if its designed to be in contact with body/food. All these noisy anti-social new neightours moving in during last 4 years...
Kinda sucks to know it was just temporary - for last 3 months and now I’m without even a minimal wage again.
Sucks even more to know that I should have been making, like, 3x more since at least 2009 and it was all stolen from me by the society through process of psychological liquidation.
I should have finished high school in 2003, then should have started studying computer science in 2003 and get engineering degree in 2007 and major in 2009.
It all belonged to me. It still rightfully belongs to me. The truth is victims of psychological liquidation (abuse leading to loss of mental health) must receive awesome compensations and high quality help in recovery from the society and disabled (even partially - like in becoming a burger flipper instead of engineer) victims of psychological liquidation must also receive generous disability pensions based on native IQ.
Should have been getting disability pension of 3x minimal wage at least since 2009, perhaps even earlier and more by now. It’s all money stolen from me by the justice-hating traitor society.
I got through the HTML/CSS course, but I’m still far from getting anywhere, I’m still disabled and barely functioning. And wouldn’t be able to get and keep a job. Actually ended in hospital and on two week sick leave during the last month of the internship.
My life just feels cursed.
Can’t really say how I feel about all that stuff due to the new anti-free speech rules on this site. I need to go to sleep because it’s morning and I’m very tired.
I still need to do the two last projects for the Responsive Web Design Certification (300 hours) course on freeCodeCamp to get it wrapped up. Then I don’t know what.

Craig the Clinician // Week 7
Meeting Craig was very beneficial for us! He’s one of their head clinicians that came down to RMIT for us to pitch for. He started off by probing our minds trying to understand what we’ve taken from the brief.
In summary: The website is a place for the clinicians and their patients to work together to track their progress over time. It’s also a good way to help understand their situation better by visualising and listing their troubles. It validates all of them and it shows the amount of stress and the capacity they have for stress. The bucket also allows them to have more self-compassion as people are constantly thinking they should be able to cope. In reality, it’s not like that and they need to see that it’s a lot for them to deal with.
TEMPLATE FOR THE BUCKET SESSION CURRENTLY: 1. “I know that you have to be here. Are you willing to try things to make this experience more pleasurable or beneficial for you/ make use of your session?”
2. “Would it be helpful in looking at the reason you got into the hospital?”
3. “Is there any more? Maybe write a list of them.”
4. “Sometimes it helps when we draw a bucket to understand this concept.”
5. “Any behavioural changes that could have contributed to it?”
6. “Anything that helps you get through your day/ supporting you?”
7. “If I was in your situation I may have been hospitalised for it too.”
A lot of Socratic questioning to help them delve into it without having the psychologist interpret it for them. Also being selective with word choice allows us to be sensitive with their situation.
