Iran continues to respect the Vienna agreement despite US sanctions

Last May, the United States withdrew from the agreement, restoring economic sanctions against Iran. But according to the IAEA, the country has not resumed its nuclear activities for military purposes. Iran is trying to show its good will. The country continues to meet the commitments made when it signed the agreement on its nuclear program in 2015 in Vienna (Austria), said Thursday, November 22, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This text frames Iran's nuclear activities in exchange for a gradual lifting of economic sanctions against Tehran. In particular, it prohibits the country from pursuing nuclear activities for military purposes. "Iran is honoring its commitments to the Joint Global Action Plan," said IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano, "It is paramount that Iran continues to fully respect these commitments" despite the restoration of US sanctions. he added. EU still hopes to save the deal Indeed, in May, the United States withdrew from the agreement, thus restoring economic sanctions against Iran. US President Donald Trump justified the withdrawal by denouncing the "dreadful mistakes" of the agreement. Sanctions include an Iranian oil embargo and a ban on any company from any country trading with the United States if it does business with Iran. The European Union says, with Russia and China, determined to save the text signed by Iran, the permanent members of the UN Security Council (United States, France, United Kingdom, China, Russia ) and Germany.
