closed starter for @hazalxalpman at the driftwood diner
The best part about her job as a lifeguard was that for the most part she was able to spend her days lounging on the beach without any drama to speak of. It was an easy job until it wasn't and that morning, it hadn't been easy at all. An ill timed wave and a careless tourist had resulted in Aliye rushing from her spot on the sand and out into the frigid water to pull the man to safety. The drama of it all had taken up most of the morning and by the time she was off, she was stressed, covered in sand, and had seaweed falling out of her hair. Looking a mess, she opted not to trek back to her boat to clean up before meeting up with Hazal for lunch, showing up instead looking like a monster that had just crawled out of the ocean. "Haze, hey, sorry I'm late," she apologized as she rushed in, her usual ten minutes late, shifting to give Hazal a quick hug. Pulling back, her face turned to a cringe when she saw the seaweed she'd left behind on Hazal's shoulder, reaching to pick it off with an apologetic shrug. "Long morning on the shore. You'd look good with seaweed hair, though, for the record. Super cute."

Hazal was probably right. Even if the archery was probably not as dangerous as a real set you'd go out hunting with, it could still hurt someone if they messed up bad enough. "Alright, alright, fair points all around. Drunk us should stick to bobbing for apples," she agreed with a laugh, glad to make that their next activity after they had their ciders. "It's just crazy enough to be totally fun with a bit of booze in us I bet." Aliye could turn anything into a good time, really, especially with a bit of alcohol in her system. Returning the archery equipment they'd been trying to shoot, Aliye turned to Hazal with a grin, head nodding towards the booth with the cider. "Let's go grab some drinks and meander on down to the apples, yeah?"

"And I mean it," she matched Aliye's smile with one of her own. "Safety reasons are important to consider," she laughed with a nod of her head, "I know they don't make them that sharp but they have to be sharp enough to pierce the board at the end of the way. "Yeah that's the jist of it, actually probably all there is to it," she laughed again, "I really don't know how much strategy there is to it. I've seen some kids try to be really gentle why basically being drowned by the other kids thrashing around trying to get one." Hazal exaggerated, "I think we would have a lot of fun with it." @aliyebalik

"Life's biggest hype woman, I love that," Aliye chuckled, a warm smile settled across her lips. It was something she tried to do whenever she could. Whether it was just bringing up the mood around her or supporting her friends, she was at a ten on the enthusiasm scale almost all the time. "Mostly sober I can vibe with. Like, I feel pretty confident I'd still be good drunk, but yanno, for safety, I'll shoot the arrows before the booze." Any other activity that didn't involve a weapon, though, felt like free game for drunken shenanigans. "Hell yeah, we'll be way better at it. I mean, I don't know that I've ever actually done it, but how hard could it be? You just, stick your head in and find 'em, right?"

"See this is why you're one of the best people to have around," she laughed with Aliye's enthusiasm, "you are life's biggest hype woman and I am so here for it." It was the full hearted truth. "No archery after we drink sounds a lot more dangerous, we should do that mostly sober," she laughed as Aliye pitched bobbing for apples after a few drinks, "Now that I could get behind, that will make it a lot more fun and honestly," she laughed, "I think it might make me better at it, less self-conscious about the whole bobbing for apples thing." @aliyebalik

"There we go, that's more like it," she cheered, making a face over at Hazal as she did so, the sarcasm not going totally unnoticed. Snorting a bit, Aliye waved a hand, not at all worried that Hazal would miss the target that badly. The target was close enough that even the kids around them taking part were able to pull the bow back and hit a target most every time. "Uh, dude, everything is more fun as an adult. Put some booze in it and we're here for a good fucking time," she hummed happily as she stepped forward to the line to start her turn at the archery targets. "Maybe we shouldn't do the archery after we drink, but I absolutely vote for tipsy apple bobbing."

"You're right," she laughed, "Archery, hell yeah," she repeated Aliye's words but with a smidge more sarcasm to them, despite the smile tugging on her lips. She had to give the other a hard time - simply in their nature to do so. "I hope so," Hazal grimaced, "I couldn't imagine if I completely missed the target, that would be so embarrassing," though she knew she wouldn't be alone in the feat, it would certainly feel like it. "So much more fun as an adult," she teased back, "I mean, as a kid, it was fun, but now that I've experienced it with spiked apple cider, there's really no turning back." @aliyebalik

"Seriously, it's like, almost always some idiot that's never seen the ocean before," she agreed with a slightly annoyed shake of her head. The ocean could spell danger for even the most seasoned beachgoers, but on the whole any major drama that she had to contend with was usually the cause of someone that just didn't know what they were dealing with. "Okay, you're not wrong. She's magic and I'm jealous every time I see her. You could totally do it, though." Aliye hadn't even started to consider what she wanted to eat herself, so she was happy to run with Hazal's plan with an enthused nod. "Can't go wrong with grilled cheese, I can vibe with that. I might do something like that with a tomato soup or something. Maybe bring a second one home for Tavua. She's with my mom hanging out right now."

"That tends to be the case, huh?" Though, she knew that even with following proper beach safety, something could happen. The ocean was rather unforgiving and it had been something she learned at a young age. Hazal laughed with her friend's words, shaking her head. "I don't know about that. Beyza is absolute magic under the water, I don't know how she does it." Her sister really did look like a mermaid, if they were to actually exist. "I was thinking of the grilled cheese, actually," she told Aliye, "keeping it simple, today. Or maybe a chicken salad." @aliyebalik

"Yeah, for sure, all good. Just an idiot tourist that doesn't know proper beach safety," she hummed with a roll of her eyes, not wanting to get too much into it for Hazal's sake. Aliye did her best to never linger much on the topic of her job when she hung out with Hazal, knowing that there was a lot there in Hazal's past that could bubble up because of it. Instead, she kept it light, a bright grin now in place of the more tired one that would have better matched her mood. "Definitely in the running to take her job at any moment, you'd kill it." The teasing tone bled through as she plopped down into a seat at the diner. Her stomach was already growling from all the energy she'd expended throughout the morning, causing a slight overexcitement as she eagerly grabbed at one of the menus. "You already decide on what you're eating?"

Hazal loved getting lunch with friends, it was something she looked forward to as she maintained her independent life while being in a relationship with Archie. When she spotted Aliye entering the diner, she stood up and greeted her in return with a tight hug. "You don't have to apologize," knowing that the other had been at work, she had imagined that it had been work related. And frankly, Hazal would have rather her focused on her job. After what happened all those years ago, she didn't want to think about it happening to someone else. "Everything okay?" She furrowed her brows in concern before her lips curled into a smile, "a future mermaid in the making then? Like Beyza?" She teased as Aliye picked the seaweed from her shoulder. @aliyebalik

"I think what you meant to say was, archery, hell yeah," she corrected with a grin, bouncing eagerly as they moved through the line to get their turn. "I promise, it's not as hard as it looks and you'll definitely at least manage to shoot it in the direction of the target." A bright grin overtook Aliye's face, offering an encouraging nod towards her friend as she spun one of the arrows around in her hand. "Absolutely not going to argue on the spiked apple cider, though, it's absolutely time to get lit at the founder's festival. Who doesn't love celebrating the...well, whatever this is for."

"Archery, huh?" Hazal grimaced, standing in line for their turn to happen. "I have managed to pretty much avoid this every year," she laughed softly, "I glad they have us spread so far apart," Hazal peered around a few people in front of them. "I am only doing this for the spiked apple cider to come afterwards," the brunette joke with the other, gently nudging her with her elbow. "Kidding, mostly," she grinned, "you know I love spending time with you."
