closed starter for @austin-cartwright in the forest somewhere
With the weather getting cooler, it was starting to get into Kat's favorite time of the year. Not wanting to waste a moment of the time she had at home before her next trip, Kat had bounced her way into Austin's room in the wee hours of the morning, dragging her best friend out of bed to get out and go for a morning hike. She'd packed breakfast, packed climbing gear, and loaded up her Range Rover for a perfect day. "Your call, do you want to go up and over or take the long way around?" Kat asked, head looking over her shoulder towards Austin as they approached the next phase of the hike. She brought gear for whatever they wanted to do, whether that was a longer hike around the mountain or a quicker, but more difficult climb up to the outlook they were going to picnic at for a late brunch.

The laughter came easily whenever Austin was around and Kat was genuinely glad to see her, as she always was. It wasn't often you could find a friend that you somehow almost never saw, but still managed to stay this close with, but they'd found it in each other. "You are indeed very blessed," Kat encouraged, grinning ear to ear. "It's not often I offer up precious time in my schedule last minute like this." Kat would always drop anything else she had happening for Austin. If Austin called, it didn't matter where in the world she was, Kat would be there in an instant.
"No one interesting enough to invite them back to the tent, I'm afraid," Kat admitted with a half shrug of her shoulders. Most people in town she already knew well enough that it wasn't often she met many new people anyway. Patting the bottom of her tent as an invitation for Austin to stay, Kat chuckled and leaned over to grab some of the alcohol she'd brought along for the night. "As if I would ever leave the alcohol out of arm's reach on a night like this. What do you want?"

Tilting her head down so she could press a kiss into the top of her best friend's head, Austin let out a content sigh. Living out of a rucksack and having the freedom to hop on a plane or helicopter whenever she wanted and change her scenery, her time zone, her anything was such a luxury- but this? Coming home and being with the people she loved? Nothing beat it. She'd always have the part of her that told her to run, to get out and explore every corner of the world she could get to, but one of the best things about her and Kat's friendship was she knew not only would the brunette understand, she'd join her.
"Then I'm gonna say it. You're happy to seeee me." She said the last sentence with a soft sing-song quality, laughter following not long after. "Oh your highness, I'm just lucky to be fit in to such a busy schedule! Honored, even. Blessed." More laughter shook her frame as she kept her hold on the older woman, unwilling to let go of her just yet. She knew it was her fault, but they'd been apart for too long. "Meet anyone interesting? Should I leave so you can have a magical night under the stars?" She teased, wiggling her eyebrows at Kat. "Or am I safe to stay right here for a little longer before raiding the liquor stash I know you brought along." ( @katerinadelarosa )

closed starter for @austin-cartwright at high rollers
"Bitch. I'm ready to roller derby the fuck out of these kids," Kat grinned, almost manically as she started to strap her skates on. While she didn't skate often, she had enough coordination to be relatively good at it and a big enough ego to believe she could do it anyway. Kat had several Halloween costumes prepared for the season and that evening was dressed in an outfit she could move in, her own rendition of Tanya McQuoid from the White Lotus. "We should look into doing derby for real, I think we'd absolutely kick ass at it." Kat was small, but she was tough, and the sport generally did feel right up her alley.

Even just the joking comment from Austin was enough to flame a spark of competitiveness out of Kat. It didn't take much and the gleam in her eyes said just as much. "I could boot your ass any time and you know it," she challenged back playfully. Obviously she would never start an actual fight when they were climbing up a mountain, but she was more than willing to talk shit on Austin the whole way up there. It was common enough territory for the two of them, finding new ways to playfully banter and bicker back and forth any time they were together. Really, as long as their mouths were running, it was a pretty normal day for the both of them.
Kat took just a moment to pause and look back at Austin to stick her tongue out, giving her equally competent friend plenty of room to get herself even as they made their way up. Teeth gritted, Kat redoubled her efforts, matching rock for rock with Austin as they headed up, both of them reaching the top at almost the exact same time. What had started as a fun climb had, as was often the case with these two, turned into a competitive sprint up the mountain. Kat had a layer of sweat sheening on her neck now, breaths coming just a touch quicker than at the start. "Guess we'll have to split the muffin," she chuckled warmly, reaching over to give a half hug to Austin before she paused to look out at the scenery in front of them. One thing that never got old to Kat was just how beautiful things could be in the world, even right there in little old Providence Peak. "

Austin's eyes rolled at Kat's words as she pulled on the safety gear. She was confident in her skills, but not nearly as confident or competent as Kat. She needed the helmet and she wasn't afraid to admit that. "Please, like your tiny self could boot me anywhere." She mused with a playful grin, nudging the older woman with her elbow. Despite her words, Austin knew not to underestimate her oldest friend. If Kat wanted to, she could have Austin on the ground in seconds and she knew it, but that wasn't going to stop the photographer from running her mouth. Especially in the face of the short adventure the pair was about to embark on.
Once all of her safety gear was in place and her backpack was strapped to her back, Austin quickly followed Kat's footsteps and began to ascend up the face of the cliff. "That's absolutely not fair." She protested with a wide grin, head tilted back to look up at the brunette. "You got a head start!" Hoisting herself up with a quickness, Austin evened their playing field by climbing parallel to her best friend and pausing when they were at the same height on the rocks. "But if I'm anything, it's crafty." Her grin morphed into a smirk as she grabbed another rock and began to climb once more, passing Kat. "And I'm not letting that chocolate chip muffin go without a fight!" ( @katerinadelarosa )

After getting her tent set up earlier in the day, Kat had been out wandering around the event. She'd hung out with a few friends, cracked open a few beers, and was now on her way back to the tent to refresh a bit and dig into her personal stash of booze for something better. Not expecting any surprises, Kat wasn't paying a ton of attention as she headed back, missing any of the subtle clues that might have told her that something was up.
It wasn't until she pushed open the tent flap and was met with the sight of her best friend that Kat had any inkling that the other woman was back. "What the fuck?!" she yelled out, launching herself immediately over to the air mattress, practically tackling Austin to the ground in the process. "Hi." Kat snuggled up next to Austin, burying herself in Austin's side as she clung over against her.

WHO: @katerinadelarosa WHERE: End of Summer Bonfire Bash, Kat's Tent
Traditions weren't entirely important to Austin, that was more her mother's way of thinking, but she had to admit that her surprise homecomings were a tradition she thoroughly enjoyed. Especially the part where she surprises her best friend by waiting, usually at home, with a beer in hand. However, upon finding out Kat and most everyone was out in Bighorn Hills (she hadn't been home for the big bash in years and had forgotten about it), she made her way there to search for the brunette's tent.
It'd taken her a while to find the large tent, but after depositing her things behind it so Kat would hopefully not see any of it and be alerted to her presence, the red head made herself comfortable on the air mattress Kat had set up and popped open a beer while she waited. Luckily, she didn't have to wait too long for the flap of the tent to open and a grin spread across her face.
"Honey, I'm home."

"You could say that," Kat agreed with a pleased hum. It didn't ever seem to matter how long the stretches of time went between the two of them seeing each other, they always managed to slot right back into things as if there was no time lost at all. Curling up comfortably tangled with Austin, Kat rested her head against Austin's side and sighed happily. "You know me, out having a good time. Drinking, dancing, meeting people, the usual. I might be able to fit you into my schedule for a bit tonight, though."
@austin-cartwright
Laughter immediately erupted from Austin's lips at Kat's exclamation, beer quickly set to the side to avoid any spillage as Kat came flying towards her. "Happy to see me?" The question was swallowed up by more laughter, a joyous sound often found present whenever she was with Kat, as her own arms came to wrap around the smaller woman. "Hi back." Wrapping herself completely around the brunette, legs and all, Austin rest her head down and let out a content sigh. "Where have you been? I've been waiting forever." ( @katerinadelarosa )

"Oh, thank god," Kat hummed out when Austin chose going up and over. As much as she loved hiking, there was something inherently more satisfying about a tough free climb. The danger of it was something Kat couldn't say no to. "I would have had to boot your ass down the mountain if you'd said otherwise." It was why Kat loved Austin being home, she was one of the few people in her life that had just as much crazy in her as Kat did. A casual day hike turning into an arduous climb was just par for the course.
Kat started to take the gear out of her bag as they walked the last bit of trail to the mountainside, eager to get there and get started. "I packed a killer breakfast, so get moving, let's get it," Kat grinned, tossing some of the safety gear Austin's way before she grabbed her first rock to start hefting herself upwards, forgoing any equipment herself. It was a climb she'd done before, so she wasn't worried about it, confident she could scurry up without any equipment on her. With a loose grip, Kat let herself lean back a bit to glance down at Austin. "First one up gets dibs on their muffin of choice?"

While Austin was frustratingly used to early mornings, with many of her work days beginning before the sun had even risen, when she was home she liked to sleep in. Which she hadn't been able to do much of lately, with her crappy sleep schedule and various distractions. But last night had been perfect. She'd fallen asleep early and was on track for that late morning- but Kat had other plans. And while Austin wasn't too pleased about being woken up out of a dead sleep, she couldn't stay mad at her best friend. Not when there was hiking and adventure involved.
"Up and over, obviously." She turned to the brunette with a grin. "We didn't bring all this gear just to take the long way. Who do you think we are?" She mused. "Besides, the faster we get there, the faster I get to eat. We can take the long route back down, enjoy the view." ( @katerinadelarosa )

Were it any other friend than Austin, Kat might have leaned over to help untie their shoes, but since it was Austin she instead used her toes to push Austin's foot farther away, snickering in amusement. "You're damn right I'm gonna roller derby the fuck out of you," she agreed with a stupid grin plastered across her face. "You don't even have to be good at skating. I mean, every team has to have some poor sucker that they throw on the ground to trip up the other people, right?" Kat didn't actually know if that was how derby worked, but it sounded like a completely logical explanation. Leaning over, she started lacing her own skates up, head still tilted over towards Austin with a wide grin. "Aw, Aussie, you're already by number one fan. I'm still not convinced that you aren't the one running the Katerina de la Rosa fan accounts on Instagram either." Patting her now laced up skates, Kat hopped up to her feet, easing herself up onto the wheels of her skates. "I'll hold your hand anytime, anywhere, Austin Cartwright. C'mon, I've got you." Holding her hands out to help steady Austin as they got up from the benches, Kat waited for her friend to get her balance before slowly rolling them backwards towards the rink.

Sitting next to Kat in her third wheel costume, Austin leaned over and stretched her arms out to reach the laces to her sneakers, having to push forward to get past the added distance from the inflatable tire she wore around her chest. "Shit, you're gonna roller derby the fuck out of me." Laughing, Austin finally got her shoes untied and kicked off her usual worn out pair of Chuck Taylor's, beginning to replace them with the skates she rented. "I think you'd kick some major ass at it, babe, but you're forgetting the one thing I'm not good at is skating. Never got the hang of it." She mused, lacing up one of the skates before starting on the other. "I'd be your number one fan, though. Make signs. Start a fan club. The works." Grinning, Austin finished lacing up the skates and straightened up. "As long as you hold my hand the first few minutes while I get my skate legs. Otherwise, I'm gonna end up on my ass and I'll make sure to bring you down with me. Start your roller derby career off a little early." She teased. ( @katerinadelarosa )
