"It's Emmeline, right? You're Marlene's friend," she smiled, "I'm Fliss, her sister. I think we've met before."

Felicity Banks is launching ‘Iron Lights’, the final book in her ‘The Antipodean Queen’ steampunk series as part of the Canberra Writers Festival on Sunday, 26 August 2018 at 14:45–15:15 in Kings Hall, Old Parliament House!

“Emmeline Muchamore is a well-bred young lady hiding explosive family secrets. She needs to marry well, and quickly, in order to keep her family respectable. But when her brass heart malfunctions, she makes a desperate choice to steal the parts she needs to repair it and survive.”
Set in a steampunk 1800′s Australia, filled with magic, bushrangers, and mechanical animals, it takes place in the same world as Felicity’s interactive fiction games “Choices: And Their Souls Were Eaten”. With LGBQ and Aboriginal Australian characters, it is an engaging story for young adults and above.

My Review of The Anatomy of Death a.k.a. A Dissection of Murder
My review of The Anatomy of Death a.k.a. A Dissection of Murder by Felicity Young
I read this book on recommendation from my friend and fellow mystery discussion group member Paula; she’s extremely well-read in mysteries, especially historical mysteries. Felicity Young’s “The Anatomy of Death,” is the first in her series featuring London’s first female autopsy surgeon Dr. Dody McClelland. When a women’s rights rally turns violent, McClelland must work with Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Pike to uncover who murdered a prominent suffragette found dead at the scene.
Young sets the scene of 1910 London well, as the horse and buggy slowly gives way to motorcars, gaslights and steam-powered machines make room for electric appliances and telephones, and police must allow for the potential benefits of forensic science in criminal investigations. Real historical figures like forensic science pioneer Dr. Bernard Spilsbury, militant suffragettes Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughter Christabel, and even convicted murderer Crippen interact with Young’s fictional creations.
It’s one thing to read dry recounts of history, and another to see characters dealing with the repercussions of those historical events such as women fighting for the right to vote, as well as police and medical procedures that seem barbaric in this day and age.
All the while, Young doesn’t overwhelm the reader with so much history that there’s no room for a riveting, suspenseful mystery which she delivers in spades. I found that the novel engrossing with a plot that moved at a good pace with characters that had depth and were fully realized. I’m already looking forward to the next novel in the series.

"I'm afraid I don't have a death wish," Fliss replied, "Both from Marls and my boss," she added with a laugh, "Oh come on, you've got to let me know. I have to hold it over their heads. One of them is Marlene, right?"
" the fbi? fancy. i'll give you $10 to pretend to arrest your sister and catch it on video." she doesn't know what kind of relationship the two sisters have, though she hopes its a good one. " oh at least two of them, and i can't tell you."

"Maybe. I do have a knack for it so maybe that was their plan," Fliss joked. It was not the first time she had heard comments like that or similar ones and she didn't mind them. She did have a big family and she couldn't deny it. She shook the other's hand with a smile.
" another mckinnon, i guess your parents were going for a whole quidditch team." she'd teased marlene with that a million times before, especially every time she seemed to meet another one of the infamous clan, but there was nothing malicious in the statement, instead her hand came out to shake.

"I'd hope so. Though I'm training for the FBI now, I think quidditch is behind me if we stay here," Fliss replied, shrugging. She snorted, "How many of my siblings have said that? And which ones?"
" i'm sure they're very proud." emmeline laughed lightly, figuring it was a given that they'd have at least some prowess for it. " is this the part where you say you're the better mckinnon?"
