Animorphs my beloved. I started reading it way too young, probably, and we could only get maaaaybe 12 books out of the whole series in my library. I think I first found it before it was completed, actually, so maybe that's partly why, idk. But when we were dating, my wife nabbed me all of them in a big lovely digital package, so that's how like 20-year-old me got to finally finish reading the series and then cry my eyes out and stare at the ceiling for an hour processing it. Goddamn. Beautiful shit ;v;

Amusingly I had an Animorphs MASH AU pop into my head once, and it's going under the cut because I'm gonna go off at the mouth about it and I don't think many people will care about it, but you activated me and I'm excited now :D

It was specifically circling around Hawkeye being the only person to have this ability (no I have not yet decided how the escafil device got there before Elfangor did, don't worry about it, that's for later me to decide if I ever wrote it) and ending up morphing into Sophie for recon purposes because he could get away with a lot more scouting out of a suspected Yeerk installation as a wild horse than as a human in a jeep. Unfortunately the Sophie instincts make him too happy just to runrunrunrunrun. I think I had Radar as the only person who knew that Hawk had this ability, so when someone brought horse!Hawk back like "Oh hey I think the colonel's horse got out," Radar was just sweating and trying to pretend he wasn't hiding Sophie in her stall like "OH HOW WEIRD IS THAT," while Hawk who was rapidly approaching the two-hour mark was trying to very subtly trot into the barn and not panic Sophie as he morphed back out, bless them.

THEN my brain took it a couple of different routes! One was the variant of Frank's breakdown between S5 and S6. I posited the idea that a casualty that came in was the first to be infested, probably by a Yeerk scouting ship that went down somewhere deep in the forest, and when its alien host was dying on the ground and being investigated by a panicked American soldier, he didn't notice the lil slug creeping up his boot, over his pants, closer closer ever closer until it touched his face, and while he was in a panic and tripping over himself trying to get this thing off of him, he stumbles and bangs his head on something, and while he's reeling from it, that's when the Yeerk infests him. His host is now bleeding profusely from a head wound, though, and about to pass out, so when he ends up on Frank's operating table, this fucking Yeerk has already had a hell of a day.

So Frank manages to get infested by this Yeerk—again, I futz the details, they're not important rn hfkfd I think I posited Frank leaning down to hear what this gasping soldier is trying to say and the transition happening that way somehow—and the Yeerk is struggling to operate Frank's very poorly medically trained brain, so he is maiming and murdering casualties left and right. Everyone thinks he's cracking up because of Margaret's recent marriage, so they send him off on R&R. And the thing is that this Yeerk is starving and has been already for a full day, so the second Frank is there in Tokyo, his Yeerk has started to go insane from the lack of kadrona rays, and god bless Frank, but he was fragile enough already, and his conservative little mind was already paranoid and keen for conspiracies as it was, so he goes straight off the deep end. He does not get sent home with a promotion. He just happily believes that he did.

And then my brain took it a beejhawk route as I am wont to do where Hawkeye needs to know who is trustworthy around him, and he desperately needs to know if he can talk with BJ about what he's seen, what he's experiencing, so he gets them three-day passes and takes him to Seoul, and for the very first time...Hawk seduces him, and barely within minutes of arriving. And there's this brief pause before BJ surges into him with this low hum and unabashed, languid desire, and Hawk ends up pinning him down on the bed and making a quiet choked sound before he looks up at him with a feline grin and murmurs how he wants to play a game with BJ.

And this is how Hawk ends up tying BJ to a chair tight as he can in the middle of a Seoul hotel room, all while whispering the filthy things he's gonna do to Beej once he's got him secure. And then once he's checked all the knots and knows BJ can't get out of them, Hawk catches BJ by the chin and grins and looks him right in the eye and whispers, "I've got just under three days here alone with you. And you're gonna die the slowest, most excruciating death possible. And when you're squirming free, doing everything you can to find just one shred of food, I'm gonna laugh myself silly over how pathetic you are. And then I'm gonna grind you into a puddle for daring to get your disgusting little slime all over this fella's perfect fucking brain." Because he knows Beej wouldn't have drifted that easily into an affair with him, not without at least some degree of grief and self-directed frustration.

And unbeknownst to him, BJ—who has been so goddamn careful the entire time he and Hawk been working together to not let a lick of his desperate desire show through and tempt him, really tempt him—had intentionally pushed all those wet dreams and fantasies and hunger to the forefront of his mind just so his little Yeerk would bypass the sharp reluctance that BJ has to cheat again, so that it would instead think it was being incredibly clever, about to really wrap Hawkeye around its finger and find a way to make him another lovely host as well while his current one is all tied up with nowhere to go.

Something something watching the man you love writhe in agony for three days straight as his little parasite is using his voice to call you the worst fucking things possible with all the knowledge he has of what hurts you more than anything. Something something hearing him cry and plead and beg and promise you everything you've ever wanted with him if you'll just untie him, having to sit there against the wall with your head in your hands and whisper it's not him it's not him it's not him.

Man. What a fucking series, am I right? I'm really normal about it. Thank you for unlocking my babbling :D

Inside Out 2 is an easy movie to love. It's funny, charming, poignant and has a lot of heart. The sequel to Disney's original Academy-Award winning juggernaut of 2015 continues the saga of Riley, now a teenager, as she experiences all the complex emotions that come with that pimple-inducing, confusing time of life. As Riley morphs from childhood to adolescence, puberty screams to life like a three alarm fire and we witness her emotions - Joy (voiced beautifully by Amy Poehler), Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear - experience the sudden invasive appearance of new angsty emotions: Anxiety, Embarrassment, Envy and Ennui.

Inside Out 2 is smashing box office expectations, keeping Disney high on Joy and easily outpacing Bad Boys: Ride or Die (the fourth installment of the Bad Boy franchise - a little originality, please?) and other films that have been released of late that have kept movie audiences yawning or choosing to stay home.

and more i couldn't really name. The whole process just involves me fucking around. I am however paying attention to execute the distortion in a way where it is entirely focussed on the image itself rather than taking attention away from it. For all distortion to be based on the poor image and its material qualities - the speed of its movement, the jitter of the bad animation. Also having in mind of the distortion increasing parallel to the deterioration of the audio.

About 2:30 minutes in now!

Also figured out that the final installation (next tuesday) will be in the assembly hall. I'm happy about the space as it's about as big and grand as you can get. THANKS HARRY!

Vagina Game Process

Originally with this idea I was inspired by my work In the Blink of an Eye, and I wanted to create a work that explored false intimacy. This was going to be a mechanism that blinked on the viewer if they allowed themselves to be close enough to the work. I decided I did not have the engineering skills required to make a mechanism like this in a matter of a few weeks so I decided to iterate this work into something slightly more achievable.

This transitioned into the physical manipulation of chattering teeth, utilising the already input mechanics to allow for it to blink rapidly on one’s skin.

My thoughts were to superglue false eyelashes around the teeth and to remove the eyeballs. But after coming up with this idea it became impossible to ignore the concept of the vagina dentata - a myth in which women have teeth in the vagina, chopping off men’s penises if they tried to enter. As written about previously in this blog, this myth is rooted in men’s fear of women - especially their bodies. So the idea morphed again into a comment on society’s fear of women being anything other than the “other” sex.

I went searching for chattering teeth but could not find them anywhere. I instead came across the snapping shark game…

This felt even more appropriate to use than the chattering teeth. A game in which players are meant to feel on edge allowing their fingers to enter the shark’s mouth - unsure of which tooth pressed with set off the snapping shut mouth. I decided this was the perfect base to my work.

Using a variety of tools including knives and a lighter, I was able to cut off the shark fin as well as the tail as I did not want these assets to take away from the work.

I then added a layer of polymer clay around the casing, adding folds to mimic a vagina. I painted the interior of the shark in the same colour as the clay to remove any of the existing blue shade of the plastic. In the photo above you can see the view of the work when the mouth is shut, the teeth protruding from the mouth - creating a monster looking object.

I then added a layer of false eyelashes lining the top and bottom of the mouth, acting like pubic hair.

Attached is a video of niamh trying my vagina game. Anyone that I gave the game to play looked frightened and hesitant to press the teeth, afraid of the mouth shutting on their fingers. Despite not installed yet, the work already demonstrates clear success as it creates fear - much like the female human body.

Today Ryan let me get behind the computer a little more to finish the supers for Act 2 of his documentary, I had to utilize a preset template to flesh out the lower thirds of the documentary. I never mentioned it but this piece covers how Japanese Islanders won redress after to the prejudice they faced after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After finishing most of the supers, I wanted to learn more about a documentarian, like how long he usually stays on a project, how he gets paid, and when he plans on finishing this piece. Overall, I found out Ryan won’t be getting paid until the project is completed — the company is being paid in installments but Ryan, personally, hasn’t received a dime until after he’s done. He said he won’t get a majority of the money but a big chunk because he has the most influence/hours on the project. Although I find this lifestyle scary, he assured me that there are plenty of projects he does in between to make money, which made me respect the hustle even more. Multi-tasking and having this massive deadline looming over me would kill me. Also, I learned he was given this assignment all the way back in the summer of 2021, so the amount of foresight a company needs before they can spread the message they want is interesting. Besides that, Ryan was working on cutting time again, and good news, he thinks soon he’ll have it under time so he can get it reviewed. There’s a lot of subtle tricks he implements to get it down under, firstly with eliminating dead space in sentences, like umms. When removing these time killers, it’s important to match the cadence of the interviewee, and if there’s a drastic jump cut because of the manipulation, either cover it up with supplemental imagery or use a variety of transitions such as a morph cut, angle change (need to have shot with multiple cameras already ), etc. Knowing he shot this footage maybe a year ago, it’s amazing to see the foresight he possessed to give himself as much coverage as he could to play around with. Preparation and organization are key concepts I learn from Ryan everyday. Once Ryan left, I shadowed Zak who showed me some music videos he made and edited in the past; music videos are a topic I’m passionate about so it was a blast. Zak even let me look at the timeline to see how the video was constructed. We ended up watching plenty of music videos because he wanted me to study the language they used and to take inspiration from examples of phenomenal imagery. I have a lot of studying to do' but he also maintained that I should spend my time recording video whenever I can. It could be for editing later on, practicing compositing, getting over my shyness, and more. It’s nice to have mentors who give me tips on my next steps, especially when they follow up with a technical breakdown of how everything is done. I appreciate the direction they give me.

A/n : The long awaited Part 4! So basically this is pure fluff and I really enjoyed writing (Y/n)/George dialogue, but you could consider it a “filler-transition” chapter...I strongly advise you read it anyway :)

February 1969. You and George had been dating for two months now, and it was heaven.  Every conversation was full of meaning, every touch filled with intention, and every kiss made you feel like you were the most important person in the world in his eyes. You would not have imagined it beforehand, considering his laid back public persona, but the man was clingy : especially now that the Let it Be sessions had ended, he called you at the most random times asking to see you - he even rang you at work occasionally, which your boss found less amusing than you did.

You told each other everything, to the point where you seemed like the oldest of friends to the outside eye. Come to think of it, this relationship was different to your previous ones, since you actually felt completely at ease with George. There was no need to impress the other person and keep them interested in you, as you both loved and admired each other as equals. Silence was as comfortable as conversation : if either of you was too tired or not in the mood to talk, you would find the nearest couch and simply exist in each other’s arms, listening to each other breathe.

So you found yourself here. It was Saturday afternoon. You and George were spooning on the couch of his living room; he had picked you up the previous day at the end of your shift and you had driven to Kinfauns to spend the week-end together. His arms were wrapped around your waist and his hands rested on the naked skin underneath your white button-up shirt. His fingers were slightly cold, but he made up for it in body heat : with your back pressed against his chest, you had your eyes closed and a small smile painted on your face. You could have stayed there all day.

“If you could be anything in the world instead of a human, what would you be?”, he asked you out of the blue. It was not completely unexpected : you two had a sort of running competition for who could come up with the most ridiculous open-ended question - this might have been the best one yet. You shifted your position to face him. “It’s a good question, I’ll give you that”, you admitted. He flashed you a toothy ‘I know, right?’ grin, but you were not finished: “But how would it work? Like, do you mean if I could turn into that something right now, and know that I’ve been a human beforehand? Would I still have my (y/n) conscience while I live in this new body? And would I be able to transform back into a human again at some point?” “Always the smart one aren’t you, with your follow-up questions”, he teased, a slight smirk appearing on the corner of his mouth. You chuckled in disbelief : “But that’s the entire point, isn’t it?” “Dunno, it seemed like a pretty straightforward question to me before you started takin’ it apart.”, he shrugged, making you sigh in defeat. “Right. You answer it, then”, you stuck out your tongue and went back to your original  little spoon position.

You expected him to have an answer prepared, instead you were met with only silence as he buried his nose in the back of your neck, making you squirm. “That - tickles -”, you complained breathlessly, but he only tightened his grip around you. Slowly, the initial tickles morphed into a warm tingling sensation moving down your spine, and you settled into the hug in pleasant defeat. “Your hair smells great. I wish they made nice shampoo like that for men.” You shook your head at the remark : “Is that what you would be, then? A bottle of orange blossom shampoo?” Considering your suggestion, he cocked an eyebrow. “Well, no, because bottles run out. It’d be a very short and uneventful life, seeing only someone’s bathroom…Although I wouldn’t mind it if it were yours”, you could almost hear him wink at you. “George, you see me naked all the time. No need to find strategies get into my bathroom, we’re not in middle school.”

After a few minutes of more cuddling, he broke the silence again. “It’d be nice to be a tree.” “Hm?” “Think about it. I’d live a quiet life, constantly surrounded by nature, watchin’ it change with the seasons…Have all sorts of birds make their nests on my branches…” You nodded slowly, trying to picture his words in your mind. Life as a tree. It did sound pleasant. Growing slowly ; never fazed by the elements, being able to enjoy the rain and wind. Grounded by your roots, though still able to touch the sky with your crown…“But you like travelling,” you pointed out. “Could you really enjoy staying put in one same spot for hundreds of years?”

“There’s other ways to travel. That’s what meditation’s all about. Without going out of your door, you can know all things on earth,” he explained, brushing a stray hair strand out of your face. You  instantly recognised a line from The Inner Light, the song on the B side of Lady Madonna. “Quoting your own songs, are you now?”, you mocked jokingly, making him chuckle. “Didn’t know you knew that one.” “I was a Beatles fan before I was your girl, remember?” “Oh yeah?”, he smiled, acting all fake-surprised despite it being very old news. “Who was your favourite?”

You did not reply right away. Not that you didn’t know the answer, which was George, through and through : something about his voice had always pulled you to him, and there was a magnetism to being “the quiet one”. Even before you had met him, Mary (the bigger Beatlemaniac out of the two of you) used to tell you you were a “George kind of girl” all the time, referring either to your moderate shyness, your spirituality or your constant snacking. But you did not want to give him that much satisfaction quite yet.

“Paul.”, you finally decided, managing to keep a perfectly straight face through the lie. “Really?”, his smile only widened. You could tell he didn’t completely believe you, but at least you had installed a tinge of doubt. “Funny, I’d pegged ye more as the John type.”, he teased. “John? Never. I do love his songs, but he seems like the most likely to grab a girl’s arse without her consent.” “Well, you’re not wrong…Ringo?” “He’s the sweetest. Love him to bits.” “And rightfully so.”, he agreed.  

George went silent, as he often did when the mention of something or someone became a train of thought. Ringo had been the easiest to work with at the studio during the recording of Let it Be - being his good old laid back self, occasionally trying to diffuse the tension, not getting on anyone’s nerves. Had someone asked George about his favourite Beatle at that time, he would have definitely gone with Ringo. Of course it did not mean he disliked John or Paul, as he tried to separate his friendship with them from the recent developments of the band dynamic… They had known each other for ten years, it would not just crumble to the ground the moment someone was being petty. John was still his mate, Paul was still his mate. “But you said Paul was your favourite. What’s it you like so much about ‘im, then?”, he asked as he shook his head back to reality.

“That it would push your buttons the most. Of course you’re my favourite, dummy.”, you brought your lips onto his, pulling him into a sweet kiss.

“I figured. Since you’re dating me and all that.”, he gave you a toothy grin once you had pulled away. “So you don’t like Paul then?” “Never said that. He seems nice enough, and his songs are beautiful. But he’s too attractive, I don’t trust him.” He couldn’t help but laugh at your straightforwardness.

“Well, it’s a good thing you don’t hate him, because I was thinking, it’s about time I introduce you to me mates.”
