Abdulrahman reached out to me to help share his fundraiser. He is urgently raising money to evacuate he and his family from Gaza. He has currently raised kr80,442 SEK out of his kr350,000 goal! Please donate and share, and if you can't donate, please still share!
Abdulrahman's Twitter/X: @Alshanti71
Abdulrahman's Instagram: @abood_elshanti
From Abdulrahman's GFM:
Note: The required amount is $30,000
⚠️ $1 = 10.5 Swedish kron
" الترجمة العربية بالأسف "
My name is Abdulrahman Alshanti, and I am reaching out to you in a time of great need. My family and I currently reside in Gaza, facing dire circumstances resulting from the effects of the genocide on Gaza and the ongoing displacement crisis.
Unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of choice
Lives are very precious and cannot be replaced
To get through death we need to pay money we don't have
The price to leave gaza by egyptian borders is $7000-5000$ Equivalent to 55,000 SEK
per man/woman
We have endured seven months of relentless warfare in Gaza, facing attacks by land, sea, and air. We are suffering from the profound impacts of the ongoing conflict, unsure of what steps to take or where to seek help.
Adding to our distress, my mother is battling chronic illnesses, including heart issues, diabetes, high blood pressure and Retinal hemorrhage. The severe shortage of medications in our region has made her daily life unbearable amid these tragic conditions.
we are desperate to leave Gaza, as there is nothing left for us here. However, the high costs associated with relocation make it impossible for us to do so. We do not know what to do or whom to turn to for assistance.
In light of these challenges, we humbly seek your support on this GoFundMe campaign to help us secure the funds needed for our relocation
“ Donations will go towards living expenses and securing the future also “
If you find it in your heart to contribute to our cause, no matter how small the amount, it will be immensely appreciated. Your compassion and support can make a tangible impact on the lives of us.
For those willing to extend a helping hand, every contribution brings us one step closer to a more secure and hopeful future.
Thank you for taking the time to read our plea, and we sincerely appreciate any assistance you can provide. If you have any questions or require additional information, please feel free to reach out to us.
With gratitude,
Abdulrahman .

The Elon Musk–backed America PAC has spent thousands of dollars advertising on the Elon Musk–owned social media platform X to support former president Donald Trump’s campaign. According to X’s political ad disclosure data, between July 8 and October 1 the America PAC ran 59 ads, costing more than $166,000 and yielding, per X’s metrics, 32,058,424 impressions. All of the ads targeted swing states: Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, and Wisconsin.
Musk first endorsed Trump immediately following the attempted assassination against the former president in July in Butler, Pennsylvania. Since then, Musk has said he is “all in” on his support for Trump, and appeared at a second rally in Butler earlier this month. “This election is the most important election of our lifetime,” said Musk at the time. “This is no ordinary election.” It was one part of Musk’s—and the America PAC’s—efforts to turn out voters for Trump in swing states.
The America PAC has been a driving force behind voter mobilization for the Trump campaign, developing an app to help canvassers target likely voters. (The effectiveness of this strategy remains to be seen, with canvassers reportedly faking voter contacts at scale.) The PAC has offered $47 to any swing state voters who would agree to sign a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments. Musk has also said he will give out $1 million a day to voters who sign the petition, in a move election law expert Rick Hasen described as “clearly illegal.”
Federal Election Commission filings released last week revealed that Musk has funneled $75 million into the PAC since July, dwarfing other Silicon Valley donors who back the former president. Musk has also donated to the Building America’s Future PAC, which has run anti–Kamala Harris ads aiming to dissuade Black and Muslim voters, particularly in swing states.
Musk has also used his ownership of X to further promote Trump. In August, Musk sat down with Trump for an interview hosted on X Spaces. He has also promoted and reshared conspiracy theories pedaled by the Trump campaign, including by alleging that the Democratic Party would allow undocumented immigrants to vote in order to win the election.
In one ad that ran between September 27 and October 1, the post read, “Georgia is filling up with illegal immigrants: In just 3 years, Kamala released more illegal immigrants into our country than almost 3x the population of Atlanta. End Kamala's Border Chaos and request your ballot for President Trump today.” The ad links to the website votesafe.org, which is paid for by the America PAC and where voters can look up their voter registration status and request ballots.
All of the PAC’s ads are linked to the @theamericapac X account, which links to the PAC’s website. Before his appearance at Trump’s October rally in Butler, Musk had appropriated the @america handle for the America PAC.
The America PAC has also invested heavily in ads on Meta’s platforms, Facebook and Instagram, running more than 250 ads in October alone.
A representative from X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I am not Haitian, and practice a non-Vodou form of spirituality. For some reason, I have a strong feeling that Papa Legba has entered my life and blessed me. I feel a strong urge to thank him by doing something in return. What is the best way to express my gratitude? Is it appropriate for me to leave offerings for him in my altar, or would that invoke his ire? I do not want anything in return, I just want to serve him.
Stuff for the lwa really shouldn't go on space utilized for any other reason; they are less likely to be enraged and just more uninterested.
Charity is always a good option and honestly one of the best for folks who want to give but are removed from a community to support them. Make a donation in his honor or do volunteer work in his name. The lwa love charity, and request it often from their children.
Charities, nonprofits, and NGOs that help Haitians are a great choice. Some places to donate that I really like and that are reputable:
MamaBaby Haiti: This nonprofit is one of very few organizations in Haiti providing prenatal, delivery, and post natal care to pregnant people in the country. Haiti has an incredibly high infant mortality rate due to the lack of both providers and medical facilities to assist with birth. MamaBaby Haiti provides free care to any pregnant person who shows up AND they train midwives who can serve in their own communities. They have built birthing centers and they go by car, boat, and donkey to remote communities to provide care to people who cannot reach them. They additionally pay to get folks who deliver in a hospital out of 'hospital jail'; if you receive care in a hospital in Haiti and cannot pay, they lock you in and refuse to let you leave until you do which means people who have just had c-sections are sleeping on open porches on the floor with their newborns because they cannot pay the bill. MamaBaby Haiti will pay that. They are in desperate fundraising space right now; their operating costs are about 50K USD/month due to the incredibly high cost of everything in Haiti, and they have started shuttering their centers which serve literally thousands of people per month. You can see a lot of their work on Instagram, too, at MamaBabyHaiti.
P4H Global: this org trains teachers in Haiti, which is important work, but the founder (on IG as Bertrhude) has been a one woman fundraiser to provide support for the Kanal Pap Kanpe/The Canal is not Stopping movement. The local food economy has been decimated by food surplus donations from foreign countries, and local farmers have lacked infrastructure to be able to develop local crops to sell. Three canals have been or are being built in communities that rely on agriculture to survive. Berthrude has been tirelessly fundraising to provide materials--cement, steel, gravel--and paychecks to the communities who are building them. This has had tangible results; Haiti was once known as a rice-growing country, and that is returning. The canals have been able to provide the flooding necessary for rice, and as of today the second harvest is underway the KPK (Kanal Pap Kanpe) rice. The price of a sack of local rice in the north has dropped from roughly $1500 local dollars to $1000 local dollars, which is a MASSIVE drop in a country where many people survive on $100 local dollars or less per month. Berthrude has been transparent in her financial tracking and the amounts raised are truly incredible.
Haitian Bridge Alliance: this org has been active at the US southern border aiding Haitians and others who arrived seeking entrance. They have helped innumerable folks navigate the Biden program and have provided free legal services to basically any migrant they come across at the border. Currently, they are in communities in Mexico doing ad hoc 'know your rights' community meetings for Haitians wanting to cross. Additionally, their legal team has successfully done big things like sueing corrupt Haitian government officials in international court for crimes against humanity.
Health Equity International: this org funds and supports one of (I think) 4 free hospitals in the entire country, and that hospital (St Boniface) has the only spinal cord rehabilitation clinic in the country, the only NICU in the country, the only 24/7 trauma operating room in the country, and currently 1 of 2 emergency rooms in the country. Their work is astounding. I personally know people who would have died witho their care.
If you cannot donate money, donate your time and labor. Any organization that provides shelter to unhoused families in the US or Canada is receiving Haitians from the border and needs volunteers. Food resources like food pantries, soup kitchens, and community meals always need hands. If you can't do physical work, coordinate a diaper drive for your local family shelter or a winter coat drive (70 degrees feels cold for just arrived Haitians...). Make sandwiches for street outreach teams. Donate bilingual children's books to your local library. Stuff like that is gold to the lwa.

a stats report on the rk ashwick books (as of April 2023)
some folks responded positively to the idea of seeing data on how my books have done (for indie author research and benchmark purposes), so here you go!
I'll put everything under the cut:
📚 What do I write?
Cozy fantasy romance under the pen name R.K. Ashwick.
📚 Why do I write?
Because I love it. I have a full-time job that isn't related to writing, so I write in my spare time. I should also note that I do not have dependents, am not a caregiver, and I do have anxiety and ADHD. I am not certain that I want to be a full-time writer, given the financial instability and the joy it could take away from writing. However, I want my books to be and perform the best they can, so I try to be professional about my product and methods.
(To me, this is all important context to be up-front about. Finances, family size, and health all have a huge impact on an author's goals and strategies.)
📚 How many books do I have out?
The Stray Spirit: released August 2022. First in a planned trilogy.
A Rival Most Vial: released March 2023. First in a planned trilogy.
📚 Online Visibility
Here's what I have going on:
Paid:
Website (requires $ for hosting)
BookFunnel for newsletter promos, sales promos, and ARC distribution (site requires $ to join)
Unpaid:
Newsletter (currently managing on free version of Mailerlite, since I'm under 1000 followers)
Facebook page (not consistently maintained, mostly for SEO)
Instagram, posting 5x/wk
TikTok, posting 5k/wk
Tumblr- hi!
using things like LibraryThing, GoodReads forums, Reddit, and FB pages to find more ARC readers
I was doing Amazon ads, but recently nixed them, as I didn't feel they were really getting me anything. I'll likely return to them once I have more books out.
A Note on Follower Count: I have, like 10 FB followers, 400-ish Insta followers, 1500 TikTok folders, and almost 1600 Tumblr followers. I've been on Tumblr the longest and TikTok second longest. TikTok had the fastest growth, Insta the slowest. However, general advice is that engagement rate is more important than follower count. I'll be real, I'm not doing that hot on that front. I'll consistently get around 20 likes on Insta posts and TikTok often caps my video views at around 200 or 300. The videos that do the best on TT often aren't the ones related to my books. Fun times.
A Note on Newsletter Stats: I have a pretty consistent open rate of 25-30%, which I think is okay. I'd like for it to be closer to 40%. (It's also hard to actually track open rates, so that number isn't entirely reliable.)
A Note on ARC Reader Stats: I got 100 readers for TSS and almost 200 for ARMV. This resulted in a ballpark count of 20 reviews for TSS and 30 reviews for ARMV around release time.
📚 Other Marketing Strategies
What you see above under Visibility is my ongoing work. I also do more limited-run strategies, like:
occasional free book giveaways on social media
pre-order gifts for my book
I sent out around 20 pre-order gift envelopes for TSS and 45 for ARMV. I operate the pre-order gifts at a loss, but I really enjoy doing it, so I'm okay with it. I also have lots of leftover stickers and bookmarks that I can bundle with giveaways.
📚 Distribution
I distribute wide through:
Amazon: both ebook and paperback
IngramSpark: paperback only
Draft2Digital: ebook only
📚 Orders & Royalties
So, what did all this work and shennanery get me?
From July 2022-April 2023 (10 months):
Books Sold: 575
Total Royalties, paid and unpaid: $1543.49 ($2.68 per book)
📚 Is that good or bad?
I have no idea!! And I think in the end, it all depends on your goals.
If my goal was to make a living: welp, it's def not enough.
If my goal was to break even: between website set up, DBA set up, cover cost, editing cost, illustrator cost: nah. I'd have to make about $4,000 more to safely say I've broken even.
If my goal was to get strangers, and not just family and friends, to read my books: oh hey, I did that!!
I hope this information helps you set a goal, so you're not mentally wandering around like I am.
📚 Other Notes
A big factor in having a financially successful indie book is fitting genre conventions in your chosen subgenre, or 'writing to market.' I will say that A Rival Most Vial is more written to market than The Stray Spirit is. The Stray Spirit sort of straddles cozy, historical, and academic fantasy without actually leaning in to any of those things, so it's a little harder to market.
I also spent a lot on cover, editing, and illustration. That makes it harder to be a financially viable business, but it's what I wanted to do to have a strong finished product. I am lucky in that my full-time job can cover these expenses.
I'm not very good at social media. I've never had anything go viral on any of the sites.
The most rewarding part of all this is seeing how people react to the book: reviews, videos where they're almost crying over the book, podcast invitations, and [something a bit bigger than I'll announce in the summer.] At the end of the day, if I have a small group of buyers who are vocal in engaging with my books, that's far more rewarding than a large group of buyers who don't engage.
📚 Parting Thoughts
I'm happy to talk about any and all aspects of my self-publishing experience. If you have more questions or want more details, feel free to reply, send an ask, or DM me!

I don't talk about my professional life on Tumblr very often, but I'm actually a wildly successful Grandmaster of Product Development at Internet Of Things Inc in Palo Alto, CA. I'm the genius behind numerous very profitable products you may have seen on store shelves or TV Informercials. Some of my latest hits include:
A subscription based weed whacker that uses only $399.99 proprietary string spools. Also takes $79.99 bottles of wifi-enabled pesticide fluid that are automatically injected into the grass via our patented 3D-printed nozzle design and aerosolized by the spinning string. Rumors that this fluid contains Agent Orange are false: we have added green dye to it.
A suite of smart home products including automatic thermostats, lights, speakers, and doorknobs. Unlike competing products that lock you out of your home if you miss a payment or your internet connection is interrupted, our locks you in and turns the thermostat up/down, strobes the lights, and plays InfoWars podcasts at full blast until you pay up.
A meal planning service with built-in cooking device. Food is delivered in proprietary frozen packets that come with a removable single-use RFID tag. Simply place the packet in the WeCookIt, close the door, insert the tag, and it will heat your food with microwave radiation (that's the same thing used for the WiFi it needs to verify that your food isn't pirated). Available for $1699.95, food packets cost $25-45 per meal on average ($750-$1350 per month with a one-meal per day plan).
A subscription-based pacemaker. Now before you say anything, no, it does not shut down and kill you if you miss a payment: that would be unethical and more importantly illegal. But it turns out that there's no law against it making your heart spell out "I AM A CHEAP ASS MOTHERFUCKER" in morse code at 10-minute intervals 24/7!
An AI-based long-distance dating service. Instead of trying to find an ideal partner for you, it creates one using a combination of ChatGPT to have romantic conversations with you and our proprietary AI art engine trained off data scraped from instagram to generate selfies! Unfortunately we haven't worked out the bugs in the training data and it has a bad habit of either suicide-baiting users or trying to make them wire all their money to unknown foreign bank accounts (the annoying thing is these accounts aren't even affiliated with the company: I have no idea who's getting it but man they must be rich by now) if a single profile remains active for too long.
A Smart Smoke Alarm. It automatically records data from cameras, microphones, and numerous other sensors 24/7 which we sell to insurance companies so that in the event of a fire they can analyze your life and look for an excuse to not pay out.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER: THIS IS SATIRE. THERE IS NO COMPANY CALLED INTERNET OF THINGS INC IN PALO ALTO, CA TO MY KNOWLEDGE. IF A COMPANY BY THIS NAME DOES HAPPEN TO EXIST, I DO NOT CLAIM TO REPRESENT THEM, AND THEY CAN GO FUCK THEMSELVES. IN ADDITION IF THIS COMPANY DOES EXIST I DO NOT CONDONE OR ENCOURAGE BURNING DOWN THEIR GODDAMN OFFICES, BUT MAN WOULDN'T IT BE FUNNY IF-

What are Dabloons?
Introduction
What are dabloons?
Well, for starters, Dabloons are my new favourite addiction. But it’s also a made up economy that’s taking aver TikTok right now. It’s basically a role playing game where users collect the fictional currency (dabloon) in exchange for non-existent things like a mega mansion, soup, goliath shark with a pony head.
You can earn dabloons by coming across a video, giving you some dabloons. Most likely with a cat in the video greeting you with the phrase “Hello Traveller” who will then proceed to show you their inventory of items that you can buy for a set number of dabloons.
Anyone can make a Dabloon gifting or sale video, and you can also download dabloon bank. To keep track of your dabloons and items that you earn.
How it started?
According to the website “Know Your Meme”, the dabloon trend’s origins can be traced back to two images, shared by the Instagram account catz.jpeg, of cat’s paws, with the simple caption “four dabloons” beneath.
This brand of nonsensical humour seemed to strike a chord with the account’s hundred thousand followers, and was shared consistently over the following months.
By October 2022 the phrase, “But it will cost you 4 dabloons” became a popular punchline on TikTok and by late November this had become a full-on craze, with thousands of accounts posting dabloon content and videos using the hashtag “#dabloons” collectively gaining over 500m views, as of 1 December.
And thus the dabloon economy began.
How has it evolved?
Suddenly there were dabloon thieves draining people’s accounts dry or sending them spiralling into dabloon debt. Obviously, the dabloon police then needed to be invented in order to fight the robbers off. Next, the mafia and pirate leagues formed, so naturally, fighter jets and dragons were added to the economy to up players’ defences and ward off rival factions.
Most tracked their dabloon count in their phone’s notes app, but within a day or two, the economy became so complex that collectors such as 21-year-old Allexis Dorsey needed a spreadsheet to record her income.
“It ended up with me and my roommate, sitting there for like four hours … playing with our spreadsheets,” she said.
A TikTok her roommate posted of Dorsey explaining her in-depth accounting system went viral and the trend soon caught on – some users even attempting to code their own dabloon tracking apps from scratch.
What is the inflation problem?
But very quickly people began to notice an issue with this imaginary economy where anyone and everyone has the power to mint their own coins.
“It started as a fun little way to get soup, cakes, and maybe a blanket. It quickly spiralled into massive inflation,” Woodard laments.
“People were giving out infinite dabloons and such … I saw someone selling a bowl of soup for 10 dabloons! What happened to 4?”
So, in an attempt to reinstitute order users began developing rules, such as capping the maximum dabloons bequeathments to 100 per video. And soon the dabloon FBI and IRS were created.
Dabloons TikTok’s new imaginary economy is a really fu and interesting role playing game that anyone can join.
Here traveller take these 10 Dabloons to start your journey.

Hold it together by Era JM Couts
fiction || naruto || no ships, platonic or familial || teen & up || no major warnings apply || 940 || complete
summary: Hold it together had been Sakura’s mantra for far too many years. Existing for others, surviving a war, forcing her mind to endure just one more day, just one more mission, just one more battle.
But as Naruto and Sasuke fight their final fight, Sakura slowly has no more reasons to hold it together.

thinking (about last night) by Rhosyn Du
fiction || red, white & royal blue || m/m || alex claremont-diaz/henry fox-mountchristen-windsor || explicit || no major warnings apply || 18,743 || complete
summary: “I hope you know that I am literally never going to stop reminding you that you said that. I’m going to, like, take out an ad in the student paper. Maybe hire a skywriter or something. I am definitely telling Pez.”
“I hate you,” Henry tells him.
“Lies,” Alex says, still laughing. “You know you love me.”
Henry lets out a heavy sigh. “Well,” he says softly, “that’s rather the problem, isn’t it?”
“What, you think we’d be better off if we still hated each other?”
“I think,” Henry says slowly, “I’d be better off if I could figure out how to stop being so stupidly in love with you.”
It takes a few seconds for the words to really register, as distracted as Alex is by the heat of Henry’s breath and wondering how much it would cost to actually hire a skywriter. Once they do, it takes a full minute before Alex can move. Can breathe. Can think.
Finally, he forces out a whispered, “What?”
When that gets no response, he tries again. This time, his voice actually cooperates. “Wait, what?”
The only response he gets is a soft snore and Alex realizes that Henry, the utter fucking asshole, has passed out on his shoulder.

Maybe A League of Their Own was doomed to strike out. A passion project in all senses of the word, it was a reboot hell-bent on showing the queer lives in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that never made it into the 1992 movie. More succinctly, it was the kind of reimagining (long-form, prestige-y, tapping into an existing niche fanbase) that often only gets a shot thanks to a deep-pocketed streamer. It got to play one season. Last spring, Amazon Prime Video renewed it for a truncated second one. Last Friday, that plug got pulled; Amazon pointed the finger at the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Abbi Jacobson, the Broad City star who co-created the series, hit Instagram to say that blaming the cancelation on the strikes was “bullshit and cowardly,” but the fact remains: The show’s life on Prime Video is over. Amazon also canceled the second season of the William Gibson adaptation The Peripheral, despite having renewed it back in February. Hollywood is a ruthless business, no matter which network or streamer a show calls home.
When the world looks back in, say, 30 years, the halcyon days of streaming will be looked upon as optimistic and fleeting—a time when Silicon Valley largesse meant Amazon would drop hundreds of millions of dollars on the Tolkien adaptation Rings of Power and Netflix would back money trucks up to Shonda Rhimes’ house so she could develop Bridgerton. In all likelihood, those kinds of deals will still exist in 2053, but as competition in the streaming space gets tighter, the moonshot projects will likely be fewer and the emphasis on return-on-investment will only increase.
This writing has been on the wall for a while, but got reinforced this week when The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that streamers are increasingly guiding users to ad-supported versions of their services, largely by increasing the cost of their ad-free tiers. Earlier this month, Disney announced that the cost per month of Disney+ and Hulu would be going up three bucks. Paramount+ swapped its $10 ad-free plan for a $12 one that includes Showtime. Netflix offers a $7/month ad-backed plan and a premium one that costs more than $15. Peacock, in July, upped the price of its ad-supported version by one dollar and its ad-free iteration by two.
As long foretold, this all just seems like streaming becoming the new cable TV. Now that there are more streaming services than there used to be network television stations, people are trying to save money on all those subscriptions. If ads help them do that, so be it.
But if every streamer is just a TV network, or some sort of modern-day HBO-in-the-'90s equivalent, that could leave content like The Peripheral or A League of Their Own in the lurch. Advertisers want to know they’re reaching eyeballs, and shows with small, albeit devoted, fanbases may not be the ones to lure those ad execs in. Once again, any show that isn’t at the level of a Seinfeld or Cheers may only get a season or two. The prestige stuff could still go to networks like Showtime or HBO, networks that traditionally got away with more because they didn’t have to worry about advertisers, but even HBO—and its streaming home Max—is run by someone who comes from Discovery and, as The New Yorker detailed this week, has become a “Hollywood antihero.”
There’s also the matter of live sports. For years, live sports has been the thing that has kept fans from fully cutting cable cords. But as Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, Apple, and others have moved to incorporate sports into their offerings, the necessity of getting ESPN or something like NBA League Pass via cable subscription has gone down. That’s cool and all, but it also means those wanting to follow the NFL now do so via a half-dozen networks, including Prime Video. And advertisers are following them.
This is what we mean when we say no one is winning the streaming wars. It’s not that one day there won’t be streaming services, or that just one or two will dominate, it’s that eventually mergers, consolidations, and spinoffs will leave viewers choosing between a handful of channels they really want, just like they chose cable packages in the past. All the networks will be vying to offer the most-viewed content, not niche shows like Minx. Maybe the Hollywood strikes will end and streamers, which are bargaining alongside the studios, will start paying the same residuals networks do. Maybe Apple will buy Disney after all. Maybe no one will be in their own league.

Darlings,
I've been getting all my holiday offerings in place. Lately there's been a lot of chatter about pricing transparency across industries, beginning with the jewelry industry.
Factors that can vary:
1. Geography - if I'm on the Wast Coast shipping to California, my packages averaging 2-3 lbs, thus my shipping rates begin at $14.95 with a bulk pricing. Salaries, rent and insurance are higher in more populated areas as well.
It also costs more to have the wax I buy from a vendor that never offers free shipping. If I lived in the same state I could pick it up the same day & avoid shipping costs on that front.
2. Quality - There are many candle companies that have great packaging and use the least expensive quality wax and bulk pre-blended fragrances. To me scent is the most important part of the candle making elements and I didn't want to have candles that smelled like everyone else.
3. Expertise- what makes this company different? Is it a family owned business that also sells wholesale? A solo entrepreneur who studied fragrance? Is it a self taught fragrance lover? Is it a long standing French brand who made candles for royalty in the 1800's standing on history but perhaps only added scented options in the late 90's?
Scent is personal. There are some who go for status, no matter the scent, they want to display the accoutrements of wealth and image. It could also be purely down to label design that speaks to your soul like "Burning My Last F$ck," that never gets burned. All should be priced accordingly taking manufacturing, branding, sales, packaging, design, vendor relations and so much more into consideration.
Is the candle mass produced or hand-poured? The costs are different.
4. Budget- there will be white glove service for those who can pay it. For example, I recently checked the cost of the Blue Tick on Facebook. The basic with no support fee is under 12 per platform, ie Facebook & Instagram will run you a bit under $25/ per month.
The Top Tier is several hundred dollars which offers support and your posts will be shown to both followers and those who don't follow you.
A bootstrapper (self-funded) may have $50 a day for advertising, it will not have the impact of a funded corporation spending $1k+ daily. Thus the cost of customer acquisition will be higher for the small business who has to take more actions to find word-of-mouth.
It's been on my mind how little consumers realize that things like free shipping is not free for the business owner. It's a cost preventative model vs getting into retailers who take can take a commission in exchange for shelf space, pay a wholesale discount upfront (usually 50% less than the consumer), private label (They pay you to make it but use their branding.)
I've seen a lot of negative responses to this type of educational content. One final thought - it's no coincidence that Black Friday comes before Small Biz Saturday. Big business won this election. They have the budgets to buy in bulk, get tax and shipping breaks.
That's all I have for today. Be safe!
Wishing you good scents,
Coco #smallbusiness #candlebusiness

Why Pinterest Ads Are Important for Driving Brand Success | iMark Infotech Pvt. Ltd.
In the world of digital marketing, staying ahead of the competition requires brands to explore every opportunity for visibility and customer engagement. With social media platforms continuously evolving, Pinterest ads have risen as an effective tool for businesses aiming to create a lasting impact. But why are Pinterest ads important? 🚀🎯
Pinterest: The Visual Search Engine
Pinterest is more than just a social platform; it’s a visual search engine that allows users to explore and discover creative ideas, products, and services. With over 450 million active users worldwide, Pinterest has become a hub for inspiration. Whether users are searching for home decor ideas, fashion trends, DIY projects, or new recipes, Pinterest helps them visualize their ideas and make informed purchase decisions. This unique blend of discovery and intent makes Pinterest a powerful platform for brands to market their products and services effectively. 📌✨
Tumblr media
Unlike other platforms like Facebook or Instagram, where users scroll through feeds passively, Pinterest users are actively searching for things that align with their needs and desires. This intent-based browsing makes Pinterest an ideal platform for businesses to capture the attention of potential customers who are actively seeking solutions.
Why Pinterest Ads Are Important for Your Business
Targeted Advertising for Better ROI 🎯💡
One of the key reasons why Pinterest ads are important is because of their targeting capabilities. Pinterest offers advanced targeting options, allowing you to reach the right audience at the right time. You can target by user interests, keywords, demographics, and even specific behaviors. This precision ensures that your ads are shown to the most relevant audience, increasing the likelihood of engagement and conversion. Whether you’re a fashion retailer, a home improvement brand, or a tech company, Pinterest can help you hone in on the perfect customer segment.
In addition, Pinterest allows you to retarget users who have interacted with your brand before. This means you can continually nurture your leads and remind potential customers of your offerings, improving your chances of closing sales.
Pinterest Users Are Ready to Shop 🛍️💬
When users visit Pinterest, they are often looking to purchase products or services that align with their interests. This high purchase intent makes Pinterest ads incredibly valuable for businesses. According to Pinterest, pinners are 2x more likely to make a purchase compared to other social media users. Since Pinterest serves as a platform for planning and inspiration, users are often in the mindset of making decisions, which increases the chances that your promoted pins will lead to sales.
Whether they’re looking for the latest fashion trends or researching home decor ideas, Pinterest users are highly engaged, and your ads are more likely to convert into purchases compared to other platforms with more passive user behavior.
Boost Brand Awareness and Discoverability 🌍👀
Even if users don’t click on your Pinterest ad immediately, they can still become aware of your brand over time. Since Pinterest is a search engine, your pins can continue to appear in search results for months, giving your business continuous exposure. This kind of long-term visibility is an incredible asset for building brand awareness and creating a lasting impression.
Unlike other social media platforms where the lifespan of a post can be short, Pinterest allows your content to live longer, providing a sustained and ongoing opportunity to be discovered by new users.
Tumblr media
Cost-Effective Advertising 💰📊
For businesses with a limited marketing budget, Pinterest offers a cost-effective solution. Unlike more expensive ad platforms like Google Ads or Facebook Ads, Pinterest’s pay-per-click (PPC) model allows you to set a budget that fits your business goals. This allows businesses of all sizes to take advantage of the platform’s advertising capabilities without breaking the bank.
Furthermore, Pinterest’s automated bidding system ensures that you pay only for results. Whether you’re focusing on clicks, impressions, or conversions, you can optimize your ads to align with your specific objectives, making Pinterest a great choice for businesses looking to maximize their ROI.
Creative Flexibility and Visual Appeal 🎨📸
Pinterest is a highly visual platform, making it the perfect space for businesses to showcase their products or services creatively. With promoted pins, video ads, and carousel ads, businesses can experiment with different formats and creative approaches to see what works best with their audience. Whether it’s through stunning images, engaging videos, or eye-catching infographics, Pinterest allows you to design ads that capture attention and drive engagement.
The visual nature of the platform also means that businesses can present their products in context. For example, fashion brands can show off entire outfits, while home decor companies can display beautiful room designs, giving users inspiration and ideas on how to incorporate products into their daily lives.
Measurable Success and Analytics 📈🔍
One of the major benefits of Pinterest ads is the ability to track and measure every aspect of your campaigns. Pinterest offers robust analytics that provides detailed insights into how your ads are performing. From impressions to clicks to conversions, you can see exactly what’s working and adjust your strategy accordingly. This level of transparency is invaluable for businesses looking to optimize their advertising efforts and improve ROI.
With Pinterest’s detailed reporting tools, you can test different creative approaches, adjust your targeting, and continuously refine your campaigns to achieve the best possible results.
Different Types of Pinterest Ads for Maximum Impact
Pinterest offers a range of ad formats to suit different marketing objectives. Here are some of the most effective types of ads:
Promoted Pins: These are regular pins that businesses pay to promote. They blend seamlessly into users' feeds and search results, making them a natural part of the user experience.
Video Pins: Short video content that captures attention and provides more context about your product or service.
Carousel Ads: These ads allow you to showcase multiple images within a single ad. Users can swipe through each image, giving you the chance to highlight several products or features.
Shopping Ads: Directly link to your product pages, making it easy for users to purchase products right from the Pinterest platform.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
In conclusion, why Pinterest ads are important lies in their ability to target the right audience, drive meaningful engagement, and provide measurable results. With millions of active users looking for inspiration and ready to make purchases, Pinterest is a platform that can significantly impact your business’s growth. Whether you’re aiming to boost brand awareness, drive traffic, or increase conversions, Pinterest offers a unique and effective advertising solution.
At iMark Infotech Pvt. How to Start Advertising for Small Businesses: A Practical Guide
For small businesses, effective advertising is essential for building brand awareness, attracting new customers, and driving sales. However, with limited budgets and resources, it’s crucial to choose strategies that maximize impact while keeping costs in check. This guide will walk you through how to start advertising for a small business, from setting goals and identifying your audience to choosing the right platforms and tracking success.
1. Set Clear Goals for Your Advertising Campaign
The foundation of a successful advertising campaign is setting clear, specific goals. These objectives will guide your decisions on platforms, budgeting, and messaging. Common advertising goals for small businesses include:
Building brand awareness: If you’re looking to introduce your business to a new audience, focus on reach and visibility.
Driving website traffic: This can help boost online sales or increase interest in your services.
Generating leads: If your goal is customer acquisition, track actions like form submissions or sign-ups.
Boosting sales: For product-based businesses, aim for higher conversions on specific products or services.
Setting clear goals helps you allocate resources effectively, making your advertising efforts more efficient and impactful.
2. Identify Your Target Audience
To ensure your ads reach the right people, define your target audience as precisely as possible. Start by creating a profile based on key factors like:
Demographics: Consider age, location, gender, income level, and other relevant characteristics.
Interests and behaviors: Think about the hobbies, preferences, and online habits of your potential customers.
Pain points: Understand the challenges or needs your products or services solve for this audience.
By narrowing down your target audience, you’ll improve the relevance of your ads and reduce the risk of spending money on clicks or views from users who are unlikely to convert.
3. Choose the Right Advertising Channels
Each advertising platform has unique strengths, so choose the ones that best align with your business goals and target audience. Here are some popular options:
Social Media Advertising: Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter allow you to reach a specific audience through demographic and interest-based targeting. Facebook Ads Manager, in particular, offers powerful tools for small businesses to create effective campaigns on a budget.
Google Ads: Google Ads allows small businesses to target users based on search intent, making it ideal if you’re trying to reach people actively searching for products or services. Consider using long-tail keywords to reach a more specific audience and reduce costs.
Local Listings and Directories: For small businesses with a local focus, listing on sites like Yelp, Google My Business, and local directories can be highly effective. This type of advertising is usually free or low-cost and helps local customers find you.
Email Marketing: While technically a form of digital marketing, email marketing allows you to advertise your products or services directly to people interested in your business. Building a list of subscribers and sending promotions, discounts, or news can be a cost-effective way to drive repeat business.
4. Set a Budget and Monitor Your Spend
One of the biggest challenges for small businesses is budget constraints, so set a realistic advertising budget and manage it closely. Start by estimating the amount you can afford to spend each day or month without affecting other business expenses.
Daily Budgets and Caps: Most advertising platforms, like Google Ads and Facebook, allow you to set a daily budget or a spending cap. This ensures you won’t exceed your budget unexpectedly.
Bidding Strategies: Platforms offer bidding options like Cost-Per-Click (CPC), Cost-Per-Thousand Impressions (CPM), and Cost-Per-Acquisition (CPA). If you want to drive traffic, focus on CPC; if awareness is the goal, CPM might be a better fit.
Monitoring spend closely allows you to make real-time adjustments if certain campaigns aren’t performing well, helping you stretch your budget.
5. Create Compelling Ad Content
Effective advertising for small businesses requires attention-grabbing content that communicates value quickly. Focus on the following elements:
Clear Value Proposition: Explain why users should choose your business over competitors. Highlight unique benefits and features that solve customer needs.
Strong Visuals: High-quality images or videos attract more attention and engagement. Whether it’s a product shot or a video demo, visuals can make your ads more memorable.
Call-to-Action (CTA): Include a strong CTA, such as “Shop Now,” “Learn More,” or “Sign Up Today.” A clear CTA guides users on what to do next, increasing the likelihood of conversions.
Testing different ad creatives (copy, visuals, and CTAs) can help you identify what resonates best with your audience, improving the overall effectiveness of your campaigns.
6. Track and Measure Performance
Once your campaign is live, tracking and analyzing performance is essential for understanding what’s working. Key performance indicators (KPIs) for small business advertising include:
Impressions and Reach: Measures how many people have seen your ad, which is useful for brand awareness goals.
Click-Through Rate (CTR): Indicates how often people click on your ad after seeing it. A high CTR shows that your ad is relevant to your audience.
Conversions: Whether it’s a sale, a form submission, or an email sign-up, conversions measure your ad’s ability to drive the desired action.
Cost per Conversion: This metric shows how much you’re spending for each conversion, helping you assess the cost-effectiveness of your ads.
Use tools like Google Analytics, Facebook Ads Manager, or other platform-specific analytics to get detailed insights on your ad performance and optimize as needed.
7. Optimize and Scale Your Campaigns
Advertising for small businesses is not a “set it and forget it” activity. Regularly analyze your campaign data to identify areas for improvement and adjust your strategy. Here are some ways to optimize:
A/B Testing: Test different versions of your ads to see what messaging, visuals, or CTAs perform best.
Refining Targeting: If certain audience segments respond better to your ads, focus more of your budget on them.
Budget Adjustments: Reallocate funds toward high-performing ads and pause underperforming ones to maximize your ROI.
By consistently testing and optimizing, you’ll improve your campaign’s efficiency and effectiveness over time.
Conclusion
Advertising for small businesses can be both impactful and affordable with the right approach. By setting clear goals, understanding your target audience, choosing suitable platforms, and continuously optimizing, you can run cost-effective campaigns that grow your brand and drive results. Start small, track your performance, and use insights to refine your strategy, ensuring that every dollar you spend brings you closer to your business objectives.
