Part 1 Part 2 The Gabrieling Procrastination Art Rich Neighbors Vine Animatic

-Oh my watermelon kids

-they are finally in America!!!

-First stop: Trash City!

-oops sorry NYC, sorry, they just sound the same when I say them out loud so I get them confused sometimes :)

-(I’m kidding New Yorkers don’t kill me please)

-okay, okay, getting off topic.

-so they’re in New York

-they’re just kind of wandering and they end up running into the Elmos.

-Mari was almost pulled into a hug with one and Felix had to drag her out of the way, saving her from the creep

-they then immediately booked it to a restaurant, hoping that would give them a bit of a reprieve.

-Hard Rock Cafe was the one they picked, Nino’s choice, obviously.

-Marinette gushed over the mini milkshakes for like ten minutes.

-someone ended up recognizing them. They took a picture, posted it on twitter and now BOOM

-every single one of their fans and customers know exactly where they are.

-but ANYWAY

-they’re in nyc, why not go to a broadway show?

-Six. They go to see Six. Don’t @ me, I like six and I thought Marinette and Nino would both enjoy it

-Mari is LIVING for their outfits.

-Nino is also loving every minute.

-They’re in the front and Nino is basically grinning the whole show but during Heart of Stone you can see him tear up a bit.

-Felix actually enjoys it. He shoves all the thoughts of historical inaccuracies out of his head and mostly just listens to Mari ramble about the outfits.

-Adrien vibes with Seymour honestly. And Parr. And basically all the queens.

-Nathalie likes the show too, mostly because it’s a nice break for her and the songs are pretty catchy too

-for Mega Six, Mari is filming and all the queens look directly into her camera

-they also take it and dance on stage with her phone, filming everything

-Mari is about to faint. Doesn’t matter that she’s technically famous, she is DEAD

-they don’t see her face when they take and give back the phone so when she comes backstage afterwards with the gang, at first they just recognize her hair and see her as the girl who was filming the Mega Six

-then they see her face and the costume designer is trying so hard not to squeal, oblivious to the fact that she’s doing the exact same thing.

-Mari is absolutely gushing to them about how great the show was

-She tells Parr that her song was what kept her going in school, since she’s listened to the Broadway and West End soundtracks about a billion times. (Pretend like the broadway one is already out time is a construct with rich people)

-side note, they post the pictures and video and suddenly A BUNCH of Six fans are now following Mari and now Mari is designing outfits inspired by the queens because AH THE COSTUMES ARE GORGEOUS I COULD TALK ABOUT THEM FOR DAYS I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

-fun fact, they are all wearing a “If Found, Please Return to Nathalie” shirt

-Felix is adorable and bought Mari some hair pins with watermelons because Watermelon Kids

-yes Nathalie has a shirt that says “I’m Nathalie”

-they actually did lose Adrien and these two girls were able to return him to Nathalie and they all took a pic with them and followed the two on Twitter

-they don’t know what else to do in New York, so they just make their way down to...

-New Jersey!

-Seaside Boardwalk!!

-they mostly stick to the arcades, Mari sticking to casino pier, and them getting fries and lemonade as a snack.

-they spend the night at the boardwalk, going on a few rides like Moby Dick, and Pirate’s Cove.

-they spend the night at a house of a friend of Tom Dupain’s and the next day, they go to the Ocean County mall because it was close to the house.

-Adrien complained a bit about going to “the least cool mall in the state” but stopped when he found a five below at the plaza.

-five below is his weakness.

-mall, fun, yada yada yada

-bath and body works is inside? Mari’s in heaven.

-Friendly’s for lunch! Ice cream all around my friends!

-that afternoon they go to laser tag and completely dominated.

-Twins on one team, Watermelon Kids on the other.

-for some reason (the reason is called because I said so) they decide to go down to another boardwalk further south.

-on the way they go to lobster house for lunch (lobster house is amazing I don’t even really like it for the food it’s just the VIBES. they are. immaculate.)

-they go to Wildwood and ohhh

-Nino and Adrien are living it up on the rides

-rollercoaster, log flume, submarine ride slash game thingy!

-they’re doing it all

-and Felix and Mari are being so cute and domestic winning each other things at the games

-and then the arcade, where Felix is hopeless at Skeeball and ends up slipping and Mari helps him up while trying not to laugh

-can I just say that I think Mari is probably really good at claw machines?

-she has some weird sort of luck when she’s playing and she’ll always end up winning a prize

-they spend the night at a cute little hotel and the next day they go mini golfing

-now this is where Felix for some reason shines

-Mari keeps losing her golf ball and having to go search for it

-Adrien and Nino are both mediocre at it.

-Adrien got a hole in one and he and Nino screamed and Nino picked him up and spun him around

-they also got ice cream at said mini golf place

-Khor’s is just...*chefs kiss*. They all got the orange and vanilla swirl because I said so and it’s a Khor’s classic

-Felix picks an Italian place for dinner that night. It’s called Little Italy and it’s pretty good.

-and, that’s a wrap for New Jersey! Next...

-alllll the way down to.... North Carolina!

-they spend only a day in North Carolina, but they do go to these caves.

-and also, this place with food that’s mainly made of... alligator?

-basically, it’s a rest day.

-Mari gets SUPER inspired and buys fabric to make a jacket inspired by the caves and honestly it’s gorgeous because she used not only the tan of the rocks, but the beautiful blues of the water.

-NATHALIE BREAK

-she’s so tired but she’s having so much fun with her boys!!!

-she actually feels pretty well rested a few days into the trip.

-Nathalie can’t help but fuss over the kids

-and coo at their cuteness when they do cute things

-She and Mari always share a room

-and the three boys share a room

-Nathalie helps Mari do complicated braids because she’s super good at those and Mari can only do a basic braid.

-next!

-South Carolina!

-specifically Charleston.

-ghost tout ghost tour ghost tour

-“and this is the building where a dude saw the ship that held all his crops sink. He then proceeded to-“

-it gets graphic in that moment and Marinette is having fun but also isn’t a fan of thinking of... uh, head not being on body???

-pirates!!! They go into this cave thingy and see piratey stuff, which is entertaining for everyone because it’s creepy in the cave, which Mari enjoys, PIRATES, which Adrino enjoys, and history for the grumpy Felix

-it’s quiet and everyone’s happy, which Nathalie is living for.

-they mostly just walk around looking at pretty things the next day

-Mari is so inspired that she buys a cheap sketchbook from target just so she can get all these ideas down

-she desperately wants to sew but she has to wait since they don’t have access to a sewing machine.

-so, they eat at a sandwich shop before hitting the road.

-they make a quick stop in Georgia, laugh at a sign that lists the marvel movies made in Georgia, then leave.

-(sorry Georgia. I’m sure you’re a very nice state but I’ve had limited interaction with the state besides passing through and sometimes stopping to eat lunch.)

-this is the thing they’re very excited for!!!

-Florida!

-specifically, Orlando

-that’s right, DISNEY WORLD.

-they are spending a whole week here.

-that’s right, 7 days of fun.

-day 1, animal kingdom because they get there in the afternoon and there isn’t as much they want to see in animal kingdom. They have loads of fun though and are planning on dropping by another day for the first half of the day.

-next day is Magic Kingdom

-they go on so many rides.

-small world is Adrien’s favorite ride, don’t @ me.

-Casey’s Corner is where they get lunch because Mari loves the aesthetic.

-MINNIE EARS ALL AROUND

-Marinette has a different one for every outfit

-Aristocats ears!!!

-she can’t explain why she loves it, she just DOES.

-for their last day (yeah this is out of order but who cares) they park hop, ending in magic kingdom and staying for the fireworks. Our favorite designer wears these lovely light up ears

-when they went to animal kingdom on the first day you KNOW Mari had some cute ears

-shh don’t tell the boys and Nathalie but Felix actually asked Mari to be his girlfriend when they were in Hollywood studios

-they walked off together, and sat on a bench somewhere sharing a snack

-our extra boy asked if she could be his girlfriend with matching beauty and the beast rings

-Mari said yes and she smiled soooo much.

-it’s kind of hard to explain everything so let’s just talk about the interesting stuff!!

-Marinette VIBES with the princesses oh my god

-TIANA INSPIRED OUTFIT PLEASE

-Disney is V fun but... sorry boys, it’s time for Marinette to get some sewing done! (Also I’m kind of bored of writing Disney this took several weeks bc I would write like a sentence a day lol)

-CALIFORNIA TIME

-they do go for one day in Disneyland but most of it’s spent going to get some inspiration for Mari.

-fabric stores fabric stores.

-that girl is sketching and coming up with ideas like her life DEPENDS ON IT

-inspiration explosion

-also some normal Knick knack shopping, so Mari gets some time away from staring down at her tablet and sketchbook.

-resting and just going to try all different sorts of normal, causal restaurants

-living the life

-also, Felix and Mari go on their first date. I say first date Very Loosely because it’s actually them sitting in Mari’s hotel room eating pizza and watching a movie and though they both consider it a date, they want to have a cute, cliche first date when they back home.

-Speaking of home...

-They are about to fly back to Paris when they get a message from Jess, one of the girls who found Adrien in NY.

-It was a message from her asking if she could check her latest tweet.

-it was a recording of Jess playing guitar, the song (an instrumental version of Miraculous but slightly modified) being wonderfully sweet. Aeon, the other girl, was also in the video, humming along to Jess. At the end, Jess dedicated the video the them and they both gushed about how nice they were in person and that both of them had waited until they had the arrangement ready before they posted it on social media.

-it thawed even Felix’s icy heart.

-and as they flew back to Paris, Nathalie couldn’t help but think of what a perfectly wonderful trip it had been. Minus... the accidents.

-But there’s no need to talk about that here.

-They reach Paris safe and sound, and Marinette takes a long, long nap right before she goes into creative mode and sews all the outfits she had sketched. Advantages of being rich, you know? You don’t have to worry about fabric price.

-While Mari was sewing, everyone else was also slowing down.

-And gearing up to go back to school

-*dramatic music*

-What will happen next? Even I have no idea!

It’s almost like.... I exist??? Haha, but seriously, sorry for sort of going MIA??? I finally finished this, mostly by getting lazy towards the end. Yes, before you say it, I don’t hate NYC. It’s cool there, I just love making fun of it and the fact the special cam eout a few days ago is just pure irony. All of those links should work, so you can actually buy the Disney things I’m talking about! If they aren’t, please tell me so I can fix them. Next up is the Nathalie mentioned “Accidents”. That should take way less time because I’m going to go with the tried and true method of “Make stuff up and hope it makes sense”. I say should because you never know with me, I’m a mess ❤️❤️❤️

What inspired you to try/create that muse/s: well , if you’ve been with me long enough then you know that tooru started out as an AU ! o.ikawa t.ooru, where instead of attending s.eijou , he went to s.hiratorizawa ! to be honest , i kind of just wanted to try my hand at writing that kind of thing ? it was the very first time i had made a tumblr rp blog , so i had no idea that people rp different verses of the same character on one blog !! i originally rp’d on deviantart , and it was very commonplace to have different blogs for different verses ... i had over 70 rp blogs on there and most of them were literally the same 2 characters but in different AUs LMAO ... so imagine my surprise when i saw people rp’ing different AUs on one blog ... RP’ing multiple muses on one blog ... !! but i kinda just stayed with my iteration instead of playing canon ! kawa anyway , since i didn’t really see the point in starting over . as tooru developed more , though , i began to use him as a venting tool because this was a part of my life where i was really depressed . but as time grew on and i eventually made him into an OC , he became a much happier character . he really is my best friend ; he’s been there for me through it all , and even though he’s just fictional , i really owe him a lot for helping me out during rough times .

What is inspiration for that muse/s: well , currently , a lot of things ... lots of music , japanese culture + religion , and also my own experiences . in general , i have a p.interest board for him , so ... maybe you could say i draw inspiration from that , too ! i also rly enjoy the band MILI . their songs really fit tooru , like ‘ bathtub mermaid ’ . i’ve also been listening to hello , again and am planning on drawing something based on it for him ( + the song’s prequel , “ goodbye ” ) . i mainly tend to daydream while listening to songs , so ... yeah . as for characters who serve as inspiration for tooru ... well , i think that’s an artist meme , so i might just fill it in in lieu of answering this properly lol ... but two i can think of off the top of my head are leon from f.ire e.mblem e.choes and n.eferpitou from h.xh !

Thread/AU that made you really happy: B.NHA AU ... !! i’m hyperfixating sm on that one ... idk , a lot of planning and plotting goes into it , esp since a lot of my mutuals are in the fandom . in particular , i love love love the story i’ve created with @noquirk . i literally cannot envision a more perfect plot for tooru in this verse . heck , it’s literally my main go - to timeline when i draw / write for it . tooru is , quite literally , not very much in this AU without deck .

Something really special on your wishlist: sh ... more ships ... ships to draw and animate and make animatics to ... also i need to get my butt into gear and finish my JRPG AU group lol .

Something you are looking for in short future for your muse: blease tooru help me get thru the school year ... also i have some animatics in the back burner so i’m looking forward to getting those done !

Share something related to your muse!: his canon story , in parallel motion , deals with existentialism and alternate universes . ultimately , it’s a story that serves as a physical manifestation of my own struggle with depression , and while it’s sombre in tone , i want it to tell whoever’s reading it , “ you matter . ” it’s why tooru is placed into so many marginalized groups ; he’s fat and trans and biracial and bi and suffers from bpd + depression + anxiety but he’s a good person through it all ... his story is tragic because he’s not allowed to exist and will be forgotten when he dies , but his existence impacts so many other characters’ lives ... it’s a butterfly effect kind of thing . because you exist , you’ve made so many peoples’ lives better . and i understand it’s rough and i understand depression + sucky real life aspects try to convince you otherwise , but just ... think about it . there’s an alternate universe where , because you don’t exist , something huge was probably impacted . and even on a smaller , more intimate scale --- if you hadn’t existed in another life , then one of your friends might not be here . they might not be as happy as they are now , because you make them happy . life can be awful . but it’s wonderful and beautiful , too . that’s what i want tooru to be to others . someone to look up to and relate to , and someone who tells you , “ it’s okay ! ”

What do you think about character’s design/how do you came up with this: he’s ... kinda generic LOL mainly cause he’s based off of o.ikawa looks - wise due to his origin ... but part of his looks also derivate from an old ask blog muse i had :

i just really like that bangs - over - one - eye hairstyle ngl ... also i have no idea how / when his hair became maroon - brown since o.ikawa’s hair is chestnut brown , but ... yeah . also have no idea when he gained red eyes HDKJSFS,,,, i find fangs appealing on a character though , so that’s why he has fangs and does the :3c ... honestly i think i kinda just slapped together what i like in a design and put it on him , so even though he may look like an NPC ( lol ) , he’s still appealing in my eyes .

What your muse taught you: how to love being alive ... ( i’ve actually written an essay for a class about how he’s helped me through depression haha ... he means a lot to me , can you tell ? )

What is roleplay for you: all of you are awful and yet here i am anyway so really this says more about me than anything else .

Happy 1st Anniversary of the GF Finale!

Hello, fellow fallers! Since today is..well, the 1st Anniversary of the Gravity Falls Finale (S02e20 & S02e21 ; WPIII : Take Back the Falls & WP!V : Somewhere in the Woods) I’ve decided to write a little something. This is just a little bit on my personal experience with Gravity Falls and how I felt about Gravity Falls ending. Thank you!

Almost three years ago, I was your average little boy, living his own life with no purpose or meaning. Life was pretty much nothing more than a game, but a confusing one. I was both shy and insecure, with barely any friends. I received rather rude remarks on my personality and appearance as well. I needed an "outlet", some sort of hobby or distraction to focus on. Anything to occupy myself with to pass my time. Which is when I discovered an amazing little show called "Gravity Falls"...

Summer of 2014, I was browsing YouTube, attempting to entertain myself on a humid Saturday. I surfed from video to video, just as always. While searching, I happened to stumble upon a video, which appeared to be a theory on Gravity Falls, something I found rather strange. Up until then , I had never really heard of the concept of shows having secret messages or hidden codes within them. Plus, up until then, I had always thought of Gravity Falls as some weird Disney cartoon for young children. I had seen a few scenes of Gravity Falls, but not many. Intrigued, I clicked on the thumbnail. Apparently, the video was created by Gravity Falls Youtuber Vailskibum94, who had created countless theories on Gravity Falls.

I was filled with so much intrigue and curiosity when viewing these videos. How could such a small little kid’s show have such meaning behind it? I was in awe at how codes and secret messages could be incorporated so well into a cartoon. It boggled my mind how one had the brilliant idea to turn a boring Disney cartoon into an actual interesting show, and how one had the motivation to do so as well.

Soon after discovering Gravity Falls and viewing countless theories on the show, I started to keep up with the show’s status. I attempted to learn as much as possible of where the show was, fandom and episode wise. I quickly learned the show was in a between-season hiatus, but the first episode of a new season was soon airing in a few weeks. (Now that I think back to the days, I was pretty lucky not having to wait for months for a new season)

I think one of the reasons I hold so much love for Gravity Falls is because of what Gravity Falls did for me – gave me a distraction from the world, something else to focus on. I finally had found my “outlet”. I found Gravity falls quite fascinating, and I enjoyed spending my time thinking about Gravity Falls. I was able to have my own little world to hide from in my darkest moments, or simply for pleasure.

Also, Gravity Falls allowed me to express the bit of weirdness I held within me. Being a Faller was a great way to develop my unique side and become more of an individual than I already was. I felt so much more free and less held back by the standards of my community and society. I was definitely happier as a Faller more than I had ever been before.

Gravity Falls gave me an opportunity to exercise and challenge certain abilities as well, such as understanding characters. Gravity Falls not only held secret messages and hidden codes, but also emotion and deep plots. I think from being a Faller I am now able to sympathize with fictional characters more and understand not to judge them by the actions they perform, but rather understand what events took place in their past which influenced those actions.

I am, however, a bit concerned about the fact I have became much, much more obsessive. Although in some circumstances this is a good aspect, I don’t believe nonstop day-dreaming, rambling, fear, and even crying over a “kid’s show” is considered very good. For about one – three months before the finale aired, I was constantly worrying and terrified of viewing the finale live. I was so worked up I barely even interacted with anyone. I was always checking updates on the fandom as frequent as possible, terrified of “bad” news. Before the airing of the finale was even announced anywhere, I would have breakdowns, fearing the end of our beloved Gravity Falls was near. Gosh, there is so much more I have done which shows just how obsessive I am over Gravity Falls, but I will not list them in fear of scaring anyone.

I do need to say, though, how much I love this fandom. There is just so much time spent in creating art (by “art”, I mean ALL forms of art) dedicated to Gravity Falls. All this hard work and dedication has led to at least thousands of fan-arts, fics, animatics, in-depth discussions, headcannons, analysis’s, AU’s, theories, and so much more. It is so incredibly mind blowing to think that we have come to this far of a point where we are making insane amounts of dedication to Gravity Falls. It definitely is inspiring.

Not only this, but, the “in-fandom” events as well, such as interviews , comic-cons, streams, and even the CipherHunt. (By the way, I am still in shock over the CipherHunt. Mind-boggling experience. Alex Hirsch, h O W?!) Much take place within these types of events, which are very intriguing to view. It is absolutely hilarious to witness the fandom losing their minds over these types of events, and being apart of the madness as well.

I know I’ve rambled about this earlier, but I feel I should say it once more. Gravity Falls is filled with hidden messages and codes, all of which somehow “tie in” with a plot, theory, mystery, etc. This concept is absolutely mind-boggling to me, as it perplexes me how such a team behind the show has the dedication to add in these codes and subtle hints and such. It is as if all of these codes are part of one huge puzzle piece ; each and every code, message, etc. connecting to one another. (Up until my discovery of Gravity Falls, I had never witnessed another cartoon or show doing this, so I was pretty amazed. And, to be honest, I still am.)

When the finale was announced to be aired on Nov. 2015, I was severely devastated and heartbroken. The one thing in this world which gave me joy and a purpose…..gone. I experienced every single episode of Season Two, moment by moment. Now, I’d never be able to view another episode airing of Gravity Falls ever again. I cherished those moments, hoping they would never end. I held them so dear to me. I knew Gravity Falls would end some day, but I did not expect this beloved show to end so soon. Of course, I did not want Gravity Falls to turn into one of those forever-running, pointless cartoons such as Spongebob, but I also did not want Gravity Falls to come to an end so fast. The sorrow was too heavy to bear I mourned the finale of Gravity Falls as if it was a loved one’s passing.

Although Alex Hirsch had claimed this was not the last we’d see of Gravity Falls and our beloved characters, I still felt we had not much left of our beautiful show. Soon most would forget Gravity Falls, and the fandom would be left in the darkness to die off. How much did we have left, anyways? It certainly could not be enough for the Gravity Falls fandom to thrive off of for long. I was terrified of the Gravity Falls fandom “dying”, losing all hope in some form of a return of Gravity Falls and slowly forgetting about this wonderfully outstanding show.

Although I was doubtful in the fandom lasting, I still was more than determined to stay a true Faller. After all, Gravity Falls has given me more than I could ever ask for throughout the years. Why would I ever leave this amazing fandom, and give up the love I hold for this show? This fandom, the people behind the magic, the show itself etc. are all unspeakably amazing, which I could never give up. No matter how old I become, Gravity Falls will always hold a special place within my heart.

So, to everyone who worked on the show in any way, to everyone who has made some form of art in dedication of Gravity Falls, to everyone who is in some way connected to the show (even a little), to everyone who is a fan…

Concepts and Styleframes

“ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣＳ” is the visual aesthetic of vaporwave music. The elements usually used are streets/rooms/characters from Japanese anime, tropical landscapes, early digital graphic design, purple neon lights and Roman busts etc. As I said in the earlier post, I like listening to vaporwave music and interested in this so-called ＡＥＳＴＨＥＴＩＣＳ. I think they are very unique in style, rich in emotions and create a very unworldly atmosphere. I want to choose a song of this style and use some of the relevant visual elements for my animation.

The old Japanese style room is where I want my story to be happening and I want to paint a picture of it as a styleframe. I did some research on the old Japanese kitchen on Pinterest and it was pretty helpful.

During the research I came across this animation film called Whisper of the heart by the famous Japanese animation director Hayao Miyasaki and I LOVE THE STYLE OF IT!! During that time people painted the background by gouache and watercolor and they created such interesting and antique texture to the frame. It was a very great source on the 90s Japanese interior style and helped me a lot with creating my styleframe.

I'm not good at perspective drawing so I modeled the room which will be appearing a lot of times in my animation within Maya so I could trace the outlines of the furniture in the rendering image. But actually I am considering making the whole animation in 3D anyway. I won’t have enough time to finish everything within the time of this study period but I will continue finishing that during the summer break. For the animatic I’m going to submit, I will try to model everything as much as time allows me but for those I can’t I will just leave the rough forms there to indicate their existence.

This illustration I made here indicates the basic style, color using and mood of the animation I want to create. I could have just textured the models but because I love painting and I was greatly inspired and influenced by Miyazaki’s works I decided to do it this way.

This is not as finished as I really hoped but I think for now it’s enough and I will probably continue working on it when I get time.

This is another illustration I did for one of the scenes. It is more like a styleframe to show the mood. I think I might have to re-paint it more finely and in different layers so I can animate the leaves in Aftereffects.

This is a concept art for the protagonist. I want to 3D model her in the end and I know it would be a huge challenge for me and I don’t think I will be able to finish it before the due date so I will probably just draw her in 2D for just a few keyframes for my animatic.

This is an example of how I want my model to look like: it’s a 3D model but the way it is rendered makes it look like 2D.

Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

I found Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi which is a graphic novel that was also made into a film. I would really like to watch this film. I like the style and design of the film and graphic novel. The black and white character designs look really great. I especially liked the nuns design and how they animated them by stretching their body in different angles. The backgrounds also look interesting, it’s hand drawn and have different shades of grey in them so the characters stand out instead of blend in.

I read an article from animation network which said:

The look of the film was equally important. "As Marjane's characters couldn't be anything but sheer black-and-white, we focused on the production design," Paronnaud says. "As we couldn't have a black or white background, we had to start from scratch. I used pictures of Tehran and Vienna as inspiration, without being totally dependent on them, and integrated various grey shades.”

The animation for Persepolis is credited to the Perseprod studio and was created by two specialized studios: Je suis bien content and Pumpkin 3D. "The question of which technique to use arose very quickly when we discussed the movie," Jousset recalls. "We started with 2D images on pen tablets, but we were not totally happy with the result. The lines lacked definition. It also seemed logical that Marjane should be able to work with the animators using the tools of her trade -- paper and ink. It was clear that a traditional animation technique was perfectly suited to Marjane's and Vincent's idea of the film."

I think it’s great they went with the traditional animation technique because it really works in the film. And like they said in the article in a world dominated by CG films I think it makes the film stand out from the rest. It does inspire me and makes me happy to be doing 2D animation. I also like that they used different shades of grey for their backgrounds which is similar to what I'm trying to do for my graphic novel so that I can create depth in my backgrounds.

Persepolis is also the name of the acclaimed graphic novels, published in English in 2003 and 2004, that tell the personal story of author/artist Marjane Satrapi. The books illustrate -- both figuratively and actually -- the life of a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. The story follows a precocious and outspoken nine-year-old through young adulthood and illustrates the challenges faced by a modern young woman trying to forge an identity while having to conform to a tyrannical society.

Satrapi co-directed, with Vincent Paronnaud, the animated film version of her memoir, and she notes that animation was her first choice for the adaptation. "With live-action, it would have turned into a story of people living in a distant land who don't look like us," Satrapi says. "At best, it would have been an exotic story, and at worst, a 'third-world' story.

I also found a video on the Making of which I thought was interesting. I like how after the animatic stage the animators would go to Marjane and she would mime the actions as a reference for the animators.
