Sonic is adamantly trying to avoid most of civilization today. He’s done his gift-giving already, at the break of dawn to beat the crowd. He got at least one gift for everyone he can remember at any given moment (Knuckles is excluded; he doesn’t care about the holiday nor does anyone deliver mail to Angel Island), left them all in locations that he’s hoping will make it clear what’s for who. Despite the irony of being the fastest thing alive, he did not have time to put names on anything (except for Amy’s gift, he had that one planned a while ago). For the rest of the day he plans to keep to himself out in nature, nap at least twice, and maybe venture back at night to actually spend some quality time with his friends. They know why he does this, obviously, but he stills feels a little bad for abandoning them… beats dealing with the public, at least.
Shadow is doing the exact same thing. Luckily, he’s already made a reputation for being elusive, so no questions should be raised for why he’s missing today. Not so luckily, he forgot that while not many people crawl through caves for fun, one of their main inhabitants are bats. Rouge doesn’t startle him when she follows him into one, but she is met with a very displeased Shadow when she gets his attention. She assures him that her original idea of spending Valentines didn’t at all include spelunking, but she was requested to make a delivery to him. The one thing he was actively trying to avoid. He mutters out a forced “thank you” before she leaves. Inside the rather hastily-sealed package is a bag containing some kind of chocolate pellets(?), and a note that says “try one, trust me!” with a smiley face under it. Cryptic, but he can’t exactly be poisoned, so there’s not much harm in obliging. He tentatively eats one, and it turns out to be a coffee bean covered in chocolate. Interesting. Certainly not unwelcome…
