Musical Monday

Hi everyone! 

This Musical Monday will be fun! From the previous Mondays, we have already learned that we can play guitar off guitar tabs or we can play guitar by ear. In addition, we can learn songs from music bands or we can learn to play music that are from movies. So what else can we play?

This week’s Musical Monday features: Music from Video Games

Now, I have introduced the two things I love playing the most on my guitar, which is music from movies and music from video games. There are many video games out there, and many of these contain amazing and memorable moments. For this week, I’m bringing back nostalgia by showing music from Super Mario 64. Here are my two favorite soundtracks from the game.

It’s amazing how Nintendo was able to fit so much love into a little Nintendo 64 cartridge. I love how this song fits perfectly with the ambience of the level. The giant eel near the sunken ship always frightened me back in the day! Anyways, this was the first song I learned from the game and it was through gametabs.net, which is a website for guitar game tabs. I enjoyed every moment in learning it.

Now this was one song I wanted to learn for the longest time because it sounds so hauntingly amazing. It’s difficult to describe the song but it feels cheerful and not cheerful at the same time and yet it sounds so right. I had the hardest time finding guitar tabs on this piece so this ended up becoming the first video game song I learned by ear. Below is a short video of me playing the melody. It’s not perfect nor does it have distortion but hopefully it gives an idea of how fun playing these songs can be.
