I present the most legendarily "*spits out water*" insane Kamen Rider bootleg, ever (probably)
Behold, Insectman.
Tumblr media
As long as the kamen rider fandom is a part of my cultural makeup, I will reference this thing in jest.

Stan Lee Created The Character By Watching A Fly... @teshfact_Z Stan Lee spent almost year in racking his brain for the next big Super-Hero and then a fly flew in. After seeing the winged insect crawl up a wall at Marvel's offices, the comics legend immediately thought what the company needed at that very moment was a guy who could stick to vertical surfaces. So he came up with the next amazing superhero: Stick-to-Wall Man. Even though a name like that is pure gold, Lee tried out a few others like Insect-Man, Fly-Man, and Mosquito-Man until he finally hit the bug on the head with the most dramatic of all, Spider-Man. He then enlisted artist Steve Ditko to whip up the costume design and presented the awesome idea for an awkward teenage hero with all the powers of a spider to Marvel head Martin Goodman, who as expected replied, “That's the worst idea I've ever heard.” And the rest, as they say, is history. @teshfact_Z ALSO STAY TUNNED, For more Amazing Facts like that.. & don't forget to give your opinions via Comments. @teshfact_Z #scrientificfacts #didyouknowthat #worldallfacts #factsdaily #facts #dailyfacts #teshfact_z #shockingfacts #stanlee #spiderman #stanleestrugle #spidermancreation #spiderverse #spidermantrailer #spidermanfacts #flyman #mosquitoman #insectman #spidey #marveluniverse @teshfact_Z (at USA) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTASQJEJ55h/?utm_medium=tumblr

and then it’s the Machineries of Empire thing too cause i truly think those books are like, really genuinely smart subtle satires slash condemnations of imperialism, actually better than Imperial Radch IMO (tho IR has sentient spaceship hiveminds so like, it’s a tossup) but anyway in Machineries there’s this deadly intergalactic empire that seems to be limitless and that maintains its hold on people via a literal mass illusion, this constructed reality that must be agreed upon by everyone involved or else the whole thing collapses. and it’s simultaneously the most fragile web in the world and the most invincible: “i’m not a linguist, but do you ever think there’s something wrong with the things we do but don’t have words for?” how can we fix the world if we don’t even have the tools to name what’s wrong?
it reminds me of one of my favorite books of all time which is kate zambreno’s O FALLEN ANGEL. which is about the inadequacy of language to describe this very late-2000s american unhappiness, an unhappiness that can’t be named or else the whole feverdream falls apart. and kate zambreno has said about the book, If i submitted this to an MFA program it would have been totally scrapped and rewritten. meaning that as readers/critics/human beings we like stories and art that are tangible and real, and OFA is about a grief that our illusory world refuses to make tangible and therefore real. if what maggie feels is real, then we’re in big fucking trouble. if what malachi feels is real we should all be screaming and on fire. but we’re not, we’re stuck in traffic. we don’t even have the words to empathize with him. to save him. we can’t even save ourselves.
i almost forgot where i was going with this post which is of course Farscape related. farscape aired at the turn of the millennium, and it occupies this weird middle ground between what i think of as hopeful sf (20th century) and dystopian sf (21st). hitting the hidden vein of absurdity between humanism and desperation, between hope and despair. and i think it’s no accident that communication, or the lack of it, is such a strong throughline in Farscape---john describes what’s happening to him thru “crichtonisms” i.e. references to all the stories humans tell each other about people like john crichton. and slowly those stories are revealed to be fakes, dupes, a series of illusions that conceal one grand illusion. and what’s behind the curtain is nothing interesting. just death and destruction and suffering. sometimes you escape it and sometimes you don’t. everything lives and everything dies john crichton! what do you do with that? what do you do when the language you’ve been using to frame and cope with your experiences is shot through the head by an insectman in a gimp suit? (he was a television character john! and he made priceline commercials!! will i ever stop quoting that line? no, fuck off.) so you set fire to the curtain and you strap yourself to a suicide bomb and you play your national anthem. all-american boy made it big made it hero made it the version of kirk who was prepared to survive the 21st century. “what does an american want? democracy? no, capitalism.” are those the words we’ve been looking for? is it as simple as that?

Juvenile deliquesce brings change to Superheroes (Part IV)
1960 new generation on the rise with a new leader JFK.
He chooses new frontiers and a new speech/change:
We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.
Achieving the unachievable seems to be the status quo of the 60's. Imagination skyrockets like the rockets try to reach the Moon.
Atlas sales struggling in 1961 Captain's America artist Jack Kirby and editor Stan Lee decided to ride the new space fascination. The publisher tells Stan Lee to come up with new superheroes and made sure he understands that if he does not he will be unemployed. The Fantastic Four were born as I mentioned in the previous article.
Because the team was a success the comic rebrands to Marvel and under its new colors it introduces new heroes that are more complex. Like the likes of Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, and X-Men.
If you look at those characters you realize that they do not conform to the normal expectation and they are unpredictable like the US was in that period. Everything changing and evolving.
They can be unsure, make mistakes and be wrong or maybe sometimes even on the edge to bad. This new idea of flawed superheroes. Revolution was coming to comics as well as a mirror to the countries heading.
No more second line for teenagers
In 1962 Stand Lee noticed that there were no teenage superheroes only sidekicks and figured why not give a teenager the scene? So the new characters capture the rebellious teenage spirit. He was trying to think of a new superpower and he notices a fly crawling on the wall and figured that it would be a cool feature for a superhero. He needed a name.  He thought Insectman, Mosquitoman and then he got the Spiderman. Thank God he did not stick with those.
The story if your usual story. Shy, high school kid, Peter is bitten by a radioactive spider. Soon enough he spreads his web across the city. With Spiderman, you have the superhero that is a teenager. Back then the teenagers were revolting to the social ideals and logic.
Youth identified perfectly with Spiderman. Even George R. R. Martin identified with the character.  Spiderman went to high school. He was in high school. Peter graduated. George graduated. Peter went thru several girlfriends and George dreamed of getting a girlfriend.
Superheroes think: I have this superpower and I should make good. Peter first thought how to make money out of this.
So he tried different things. However that would have to change. Because he was not yet Spiderman he was just a teenager with a superpower but not the right attitude. So how does one changes his view? Thru tragedy. It is almost a guarantee change when something tragic happens in your life you tend to change. That happens with Peter when he does not intervene and leaves a thief get away. Later, the same thief kills his uncle. The spider that bitten Peter does not turn him into Spiderman. But the killing of his uncle does. Stan Lee realizes he must get a good morale line and comes up with: With great power comes great responsibility. It was totally unexpected how good that worked even for Stan Lee.
Can America survive when its heroes fall? We will find out in the next article.
Hope you enjoyed this article. Remember there are a few more articles regarding Superheroes:
Superheroes and would you like a superpower? (Part I)
Darkest of the Heroes (Part II)
A captain bigger than a General and a Woman to unite them all (Part III)
As usual, if you liked this article please let it show by clicking the like button. Also, please re-blog (as you can with anything I post).
Thank you, Your weird, Dyadorete!
