i keep playing snippets of my various unfinished inquisition playthroughs, but i think that what i really want to do is just replay malry and romance blackwall again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

things i want: a dorian romancing inquisitor to be best friends with either malry or heilyn so they can be That Obnoxious Friend that goes “awwwwwwwwwww” every time they see them together
eta: i should probably add that this is because dorian was both mal and heilyn’s best friend in their respective playthroughs so they’d be hoping to embarrass both dorian and his amatus with pesky cooing. cuz that’s how they show love.

Malry, 21 and 23!
21:How did they decorate Skyhold? What does their throne look like?
mal’s currently got the kirkwall throne going on, because she finds it hilarious to sit on. this huuuuuge, tall throne…and then her, plonked in the middle of it. it’s great. and then she always has the free marches decor set up too, because who doesn’t love massive bronze birds looming over everyone?
23:Do they side more often with Leliana, Josephine, or Cullen? Why?
josie, because josie can out-talk anyone.

i'm running around the hissing wastes, finally closing up all the rifts i skipped the first time i was here with malry, and just triggered the cutest banter between sera and blackwall, where she calls him "beardy" and without missing a beat he comes back at her with "fuzzhead" and she giggles herself silly. their friendship is so important to me :')

i can’t tell if my pc is lagging or if there’s just plain too many people fighting at once, but every time i try to move malry around the battle ground in this dlc she ends up stuck between a wall and either renn or (ironically) blackwall.
who, by the way, will follow her around no matter what enemy she chooses to target, so he can do all the killing for her. a+ husband

the funniest thing about that comic is that in my first playthrough i hadn't recruited master dennet until toward the very end of the game (i'd kinda...forgotten about him. and corporal vale.), so when i'd gotten that scene with blackwall there wasn't anyone else in the stables at that point, so it didn't hit me that dennet would regularly be there until i came on tumblr and saw a bunch of people posting about it.

For TMI Tuesday: one of Malry Cadash's kinks :3
(just gonna keep answers under a cut to make doubly sure people don't see them unless they wanna)
sex in public places is definitely a Thing for her. she likes how it's secret and naughty and there's a risk involved, and in some cases there's a giggly "hurry up before we're caught!" element to it, and in other cases there's just this passionate angle where the partners involved just want each other right then and there that they can't wait til they're behind closed doors.
so. yeah.
(i mean, she gets down in a barn loft so is anyone really surprised?)

15:Which part of the storyline affected them most? Why?
unsurprisingly, blackwall’s personal quest hit her like a sock to the stomach, because he was her lover and finding out…all of that was just so personal for her that it was the easily the most emotional event for her. (ultimately, it wasn’t difficult for them to deal with it, given her own absolutely horrible background, but still it had a really lasting impact on her and their relationship all the same. obviously)
26:Name one to three things that you headcanon about your Inquisitor that is not/cannot be confirmed through in-game choices.
i) she loves to cook, and spends her free-time in the kitchens coming up with new and…interesting culinary experiments. bull is her taste testing guinea pig.
ii) she genuinely wishes that she could dream. it upsets her a lot not to be able to.
iii) she has the tiniest, squeakiest sneeze you have ever heard. and allergies to a lot of plant pollen. everyone discovers this in haven. you do the math.

4 & 9! (best questions imho)
4:Do they believe what happened was destiny? Do they think it was a fluke?
oh, 100% a fluke, right from the get-go. a dwarf with a connection to the fade? something fucked up somewhere, is her thinking. she doesn’t think enough of herself, having been basically a nameless mook for the carta, to have ever thought otherwise
9:Are they devout, unsure, or disbelieving? A mix of all three?
malry was initially agnostic in all regards, as she’s never really had much of a reason to think that there was some higher power at all, but after the deal with flemeth and the well of sorrows and all that stuff, she’s had to basically go “well…if what the elves believe isn’t complete bullshit…maybe there is something else for me to believe in, after all?” she just doesn’t know what that “something else” is yet.

(i’m gonna be doing these for malry because she’s the only inquisitor whose playthrough i’ve completed so far)
16:Did they banish the Wardens after Adamant? Why?
she did not. malry, having come from a background of being a royally Bad Person with the carta, is very invested in giving second chances, as her entire life at this point is one huge second chance. so she tends to be a bit soft with doling out punishments in general, but in the case of the wardens she was especially sympathetic to them, knowing what had gotten them to that point. the fact that loghain remained behind in the fade also helped that decision, as she wanted to honor his sacrifice and banishing the order that he died for seemed to…do the opposite of that.
23:Do they side more often with Leliana, Josephine, or Cullen? Why?
josephine, because mal doesn’t know a single thing about diplomacy, but josie gets stuff done and done well, so it’s kinda like some magic of her own. also, there’s a lower body count. most of the time.

Malry + 7 and 20
everyone that follows me knows that malry romanced blackwall and he turned out to be the best suited LI for her in the entire universe, so. lucky break for her there because i was pretty uncertain of who she was going to romance when i started her playthrough.
as for how it changed her development…i don’t know if it really did. i mean, it more complimented her, but didn’t really change her. blackwall was one of the only people to bring up her past with the carta to her (the other being josephine. i’m still a little ??? over varric and her not being able to talk about that, actually), and he was also the first to really state that what was important was what she did with herself now, not who she was back then. that resonated really strongly with her, though looking back at it now it’s pretty obvious where he was pulling that advice from. so on that level, he definitely helped her ease into adjusting from the violent life she’d led in the carta to the one she was to lead as the inquisitor
once i’d found out that the cadash inquisitor was a carta member, malry immediately took on a history of being just brutal in her youth as part of my headcanon. i imagined that she’d never enjoyed it, but she’d been inexperienced and selfish and very violent as a means of ensuring that she was notable and worthwhile to her superiors, and that as she got older she wanted nothing more than to retire and lead a quiet life. but, of course, that wasn’t an option for her, in the carta or otherwise. if not for the events at the conclave, she’d have gone back to the carta and killed people up until she’d been killed herself. if she’d risen in the ranks, she’d have had other people do the killing for her. that was the reality she’d been living in, and she’d hated it, because she knew that she could be better but just couldn’t see a way out.
cut to the Big Reveal for blackwall and…you can kinda see why she wasn’t as horrified by it as some other inquisitors were? because she’d been the kind of person that would’ve done what thom rainier did. if she’d been in that position, she’d have been thom rainier, and she knows it.
he knows it, when he points out that she had rallied her own underworld contacts to have him transferred to skyhold. “you’re a criminal, same as me”. but they’re both desperate to be better people, and she sees that and sees who he’d become, not who he was, and he’d seen the same in her from the very beginning and that just fit really poetically?
and don’t even get me started on this whole deal
i associate this quote with them a lot, especially that last line. they’re two really imperfect people that came together and managed to find something that fit them together in the exact right way. i completely get the people that hated the way the romance ended up, like 100% get it, but for malry it was such a perfect narrative that i’m completely happy with it.
20:What is their preferred mount? Why?
WAR NUG. Because WAR NUG.
(sidenote: my personal favourite mounts in the game are the harts, cuz I can pretend i’m thranduil as i ride around thedas :3)

Oh my god COLE NO
i just imagine that malry just suddenly...started cough-choking after he said that and cole was just "...???" as she ambled down the stairs, not making eye contact with anyone and ignoring bull calling out to her as she fled the tavern. it took her til she was halfway up the steps back into the keep before it dawned on her that cole had only known that because blackwall had been thinking keenly about it, and then she felt...still flustered and embarrassed, but less so, because that meant that it wasn't just her that had their thing on their mind a whole bunch.
