How to print double sided
The Way to do Two Sided Printing on a Single Sided Printer
How
This saves paper and halves the majority of printed files to carry around. It's fairly easy:When the printer naturally outputs pages in the proper sequence (common for laser printers that give out sheets at a face-down pile). Printing just the even numbered pages, printing in reverse sequence. Place the stack of printed paper back in the fresh paper tray.
Printing just the odd numbered pages, printing in normal purchase. When the printer obviously outputs pages in reverse order (common for ink jet printers that give out sheets in a face-up heap). Printing just the even numbered pages, printing in normal purchase. Place the stack of printed paper back in the fresh paper tray. Printing just the odd numbered pages, printing in reverse sequence. If the amount of pages in total is odd, be sure to place a blank sheet on the finish after printing the even number pages to provide something for the closing odd page to print on the back of.
Getting the Paper the Appropriate Way Round
The only tricky bit is getting the newspaper in the perfect way round when placing it back in. Getting it the wrong side up will lead to overprinting and getting it the wrong end up will cause half of the pages to be upside down. The right way up will be dependent on the specific printer. Most small laser printers nowadays take paper in from a new paper tray in the base, fed in short edge first, print on it beginning with the page top, flip it over top to bottom and spew it out over the fresh paper tray. For these, place the even-side printed paper back in the fresh paper tray face down with the top of the page pointing towards the printer.
Most cheap inkjet printers nowadays take paper in from a new paper tray on top, fed in short edge first, print on it beginning with the page top, and spew it out under in front of the printer. For these, also place the even-side printed paper back in the fresh paper tray face down with the top of the page pointing towards the printer. Anyhow, it only requires testing once for a printer, there are only 4 chances to check along with the sheets of paper consumed in testing will instantly be paid for by the initial pages of two-sided printing.
Imagine if Odd/Even Number Page Printing is Unavailable
Unfortunately, at least in M$ Windows 2k, printing only strange or just even page isn't part of the operating system or fundamental printer driver but specific to each program, e.g. M$ Word 2k & Open Office 2 have it but Notepad 5 & Internet 6 don't.Here are some workarounds that might be worth trying:If the program print dialogue comprises the choice to print a choice of pages, simply put "1,3,5,7" etc. in that box, then print & repeat with "2,4,6,8" etc.. If you will need a listing of the first thousand page numbers split into odd & even comma separated lists for convenience, here they are: odd numbers;even amounts. 2. Convert it to PDF. I have read, but not tested, that the Acrobat Reader 8.1 has the choice to print odd & even pages separately. 3. Instead show the navigation pane in Acrobat Reader, resize the thumbnails so exactly two columns match in and drag pick the whole of a single column then publish that choice. IssuesThere might be some danger of jamming (but this is simply from not suitably restacking the paper before placing it back in), sticking (allow laser printer ink cool before feeding back the paper in) or of water soluble ink jet inks soaking throughout the newspaper and dissolving the ink on the other side (but if your printer is doing this then there's a problem to be treated anyway before you waste too much expensive ink!)
.It's hassle to keep placing paper back in for small files (especially since it gets confusing if you're queuing a great deal of files in the print queue or what to immediately edit or close a record after sending to the printer) but for large documents, I find it more hassle to need to carry around (or locate filing space for) twice as much paper as needed after.I've received a hint of an "enhanced" arrangement that doesn't need one to bear in mind the additional blank sheet once the amount of pages is odd: print the odd numbered pages in reverse order, set the paper back in the fresh paper tray & print the even numbered pages in normal order. However this produces a different inconvenience: the sheets will need to be separately turned over as they arrive in page sequence 2, 1; 4, 3; 5, 6 etc.. .'
Manual Duplex' Printers
Some single sided printers are advertised as doing double sided printing by 'manual duplex'. It's basically the same as the method described above in this guide but separating from the odd & even pages is built into the printer or printer driver for advantage. If your printer has it then it's probably simpler to use it since it won't require you to locate a program capable of odd/even branch of printing, if automatically add a blank terminal even page if needed and also the best way to organize the paper to feed back in should be specified in the instructions or on the printer itself.
