Dr Demon,
I have a top surgery related financial quandry for you.
I live in Milwaukee, and have two options I'm debating for top surgery. There's a hospital in in my city that will do it, but the surgeon doesn't have any before and after photos other than a few I've seen on reddit. It's technically covered by insurance, but my insurance company is refusing to give a preapproval and the hospital is quoting me $80k(!!) for the surgery if insurance doesn't come thru.
There's also a private plastic surgery office in Chicago whose result photos and aftercare process I like better, but that doesn't take insurance. They only quoted me $12k, which I have saved (but it's scary to potentially deplete my savings on something for myself)
If you were me, would you go with the option that's a higher stakes gamble financially (could be free, could be 4x my college debt)? Or would you go with a less dicey option, but one where I would have to make a large investment on myself?
UHHHH DOG WHAT the fuck kind of top surgery costs EIGHTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. are you getting an inground pool installed in there? that cost and the lack of results photos are both MASSIVE RED FLAGS.
If the private plastic surgeon in Chicago you're contemplating is Lawrence Iteld, please dude work with him. He's great. The private plastic surgeon experience can be fantastic -- provided you don't get any red flags of the provider being fatphobic to you, for example, or etc. Alternatively you can get on a waiting list for a surgeon at a gender clinic (there are so many here in Chicago) and trade a longer wait time for a far greater likelihood of the procedure being covered by insurance. Both Rush and Northwestern have multiple surgeons who are great, among others. You definitely have more options than just this.
