Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Maharashtra on 12th January, 2024. At around 12:15 PM, Prime Minister will reach Nashik, where he will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival. At around 3:30 PM, in Mumbai, Prime Minister will inaugurate and travel on Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. At around 4:15 PM, Prime Minister will participate in a public programme at Navi Mumbai, where he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu
Prime Minister’s vision is to improve ‘ease of mobility’ of citizens by strengthening urban transport infrastructure and connectivity. In line with this vision, Mumbai Transharbour link (MTHL), now named ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewari - Nhava Sheva Atal Setu’ has been built. The foundation stone of the bridge was also laid by the Prime Minister in December, 2016.
Atal Setu has been constructed at a total cost of more than Rs 17,840 crore. It is about 21.8 km long 6-lane bridge having about 16.5 km length over sea and about 5.5 km on the land. It is the longest bridge in India and also the longest sea bridge in India. It will provide faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport and will also reduce the travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India. It will also improve connectivity between Mumbai Port & Jawaharlal Nehru Port.
Public programme at Navi Mumbai
Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than Rs 12,700 crore in the public programme in Navi Mumbai.
Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of the underground road tunnel connecting Eastern Freeway's Orange Gate to Marine Drive. The 9.2 Km tunnel will be built at a cost of more than Rs 8700 crore and will be a significant infrastructure development in Mumbai which will reduce travel time between Orange Gate and Marine Drive.
Prime Minister will dedicate phase 1 of the Surya regional bulk drinking water project to the Nation. The project, developed at a cost of more than Rs 1975 crore will provide drinking water supply to the Palghar and Thane district of Maharashtra, benefiting about 14 lakh population.
During the programme, Prime Minister will dedicate about Rs 2000 crore railway projects to the Nation. These include the dedication of ‘Phase 2 of Uran-Kharkopar railway line’ which will enhance connectivity to Navi Mumbai as suburban services running between Nerul/Belapur to Kharkopar will now be extended to Uran. Prime Minister will also flag off the inaugural run of the EMU train from Uran railway station to Kharkopar.
Other rail projects that will be dedicated to Nation include a new suburban station ‘Digha Gaon’ on the Thane-Vashi/Panvel Trans-harbour line and the new 6th Line between Khar Road & Goregaon railway station. The projects will benefit the thousands of daily commuters in Mumbai.
Prime Minister will inaugurate ‘Bharat Ratnam’ (Mega Common Facilitation Centre) for Gems and Jewellery sector at Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone- Special Economic Zone (SEEPZ SEZ), which is first of its kind in India with best available machines in world including 3D Metal printing. This will house a training school for skilling of workforce for this sector including specially abled students. The Mega CFC will transform the export sector in Gems and Jewellery trade and will help the domestic manufacturing also.
Prime Minister will also inaugurate the New Enterprises & Services Tower (NEST)- 01 at SEEPZ- SEZ. The NEST - 01 is primarily for Gem & Jewellery sector units which will be relocated from existing Standard Design Factory - I. The new tower has been designed for large scale production and as per the demand of the industry.
During the programme, Prime Minister will launch Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan. The Abhiyaan aims to empower women in the state of Maharashtra by providing skill development training and exposure to entrepreneurship development. The Abhiyaan will also undertake the effort towards the convergence and saturation of women development programmes of the state and central governments.
27th National Youth Festival
It has been the constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to make youth a key part of the development journey of the country. In another effort in this endeavour, Prime MInister will inaugurate the 27th National Youth Festival (NYF) in Nashik.
The National Youth Festival is organised every year from 12th to 16th January, with 12th January being the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The host state for the Festival this year is Maharashtra. The theme of this year’s Festival is Viksit Bharat@ 2047: युवा के लिए, युवा के द्वारा.
NYF seeks to create a forum where youth from different regions of India can share their experiences and strengthen foundations for a united nation, in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. About 7500 youth delegates from across the country will be taking part in the Festival at Nasik. Various events including cultural performances, indigenous sports, Declamation & Thematic Based Presentation, Young Artist Camp, Poster Making, Story Writing, Youth Convention, Food Festival etc. will be organised.

Sanjay Raut Arrest: What Is The Patra Chawl Scam?
After nine hours of search at his residence and six hours of questioning at the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED’s) zonal office in south Mumbai, Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Raut, belonging to the Uddhav Thackeray faction, was arrested by the directorate. The case pertains to money laundering linked to irregularities in a chawl redevelopment scam.
The Case Of Money Laundering
There were financial irregularities found in more than Rs 1,000 crore Patra Chawl redevelopment project, commissioned in 2002.
A tripartite agreement was signed by Guru Ashish Constructions Private Limited, a subsidiary of Housing Development and Infrastructure Limited (HDIL), with the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
The aim was to provide flats to 672 tenants of Patra Chawl, develop flats for MHADA, and sell the remaining area to private developers.
As per ED investigation, the directors of Guru Ashish Constructions, including a close associate of Sanjay Raut, Pravin Raut, sold the floor space index to private developers, while pocketing Rs 901.79 crore.
Pravin Raut received Rs 100 crore from HDIL, which he diverted to his close associates and family members including the family of Sanjay Raut.
Properties Attached
Earlier in the year, ED had attached properties worth Rs 11.15 crore in the name of Sanjay Raut’s wife, Varsha Raut, and his two associates as part of the investigation.
The attached properties are in the form of land held by Pravin Raut at Palghar, Saphale (town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district), a flat in Mumbai’s suburb Dadar held by Varsha Raut and eight plots at Kihim Beach in Alibaug jointly held by Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar, wife of Sujit Patkar, a ‘close associate’ of Sanjay Raut.
During the raid, the agency found Rs 11.5 lakh of unaccounted-for cash at Raut’s residence.
Witness In The Case Threatened By Raut
On Sunday, an audio recording of a ‘conversation’ between Sanjay Raut and Swapna Patkar went viral. The MP was trying to intimidate Patkar, wife of his close associate and ED witness in the Patra Chawl case.
An FIR was registered against him under sections 504 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code at the Vakola Police Station on the charges of insulting the modesty of a woman.

Center for Excellence: The need for such Initiatives
Under the Quality Education Sustainable Development Goals - 4 (SDGs), as set by the United Nations (UN) Child help Foundation, is implementing multiple programs to ensure that every child receives quality primary education. Our grassroots-level efforts are nationally recognized. CHF's volunteers are working harder so that the benefits of our initiatives trickle-down deeper into society and more people benefit from it.
We believe that education is one of the most important aspects of development for an individual, which in turn results in the nation's development. For the past decade, CHF has been supporting students through many ways - like by giving scholarships, providing educational material, constructing clean washrooms in schools to decrease the drop-out rates, giving healthy food to the students, and by improving the infrastructure of the schools in rural and inaccessible areas. One such initiative is the Center for Excellence (CFE) Program. Started in the year 2019, this program's pilot project is being carried out at Palghar, Maharashtra's Sakhare Ashram Shala, which is a residential school. Here, students from poor, tribal communities from neighboring villages come and study at the school. The school has a hostel-like facility for those who come from far-away villages.
How it all began:In the year 2018, a baseline survey was done in the Sakhare Ashram School where it was observed that the school’s board result was 80%. Hence, Child Help Foundation decided to initiate a project called “Center For Excellence” for the students of class 10th, where extra coaching was given for English, Mathematics and Science subjects. The marks received in the 10th standard are very crucial in the lives of the children that decide their destination and future streams of life; CHF appointed specially qualified teachers to teach Mathematics, Science and English to children from Sakhare Ashram Shala located in Palghar District. The Sakhare Ashram Shala is a government Aided School. These children belong to tribal communities with no access to quality education. The Center for Excellence Programme follows the teaching methodology, which focuses on the board exam perspective and gives practice sessions resulting in the students earning maximum marks in their board exams. Apart from what is being taught during school hours, the faculty under CFE made the students study for extra time. Gradually, the students started taking more interest in these subjects. Doubts were asked and thus, they became more geared and better prepared for their 10th standard board exams. The Basics or the essential formulae are taught in the main subjects of Science, Mathematics and English that help them to solve real problems and give clarity on the concepts. In the survey conducted before the commencement of the academic session, it was observed that the students were not able to recite the English alphabet. The students had shown improvement in the fundamentals of the English subject in a months’ time. The Taj Wellington Mews also donated 45 question sets of the previous year’s 10th standard board exams to the students at Sakhare School. They also gave writing pads and supplementary papers for the children. Previous year question papers are the most important and useful study material to get the complete idea about the 10th standard exam pattern. For the last few years, it was noticed that the question pattern of any competitive exam is nearly the same, so preparing for exams from the previous year's papers is very insightful. To help the children prepare with ease, the sets of question papers were also provided with their correct answers.
Outcome:In the year 2020, when the board results were declared, the school extended their gratitude to the Child Help Foundation, as it was the first time that it had scored 100% results for the first time ever! There were 43 students enrolled in the Center for Excellence Program who cleared their 10th exams with the highest scores in Mathematics, Science and English. The education of girl children has created equal opportunities for both girls and boys of tenth standards. From the past two years, the results showcase that CFE has had an impact on their performance in a positive way.
Tablet Distribution:As a token of appreciation, tablet pc’s were given to 10 students as granted by a donor to Child Help Foundation. It was decided to contribute to students who had scored the highest marks in their board exams. Also, an interactive session on the importance of education was conducted for the students present. The School Authorities and the Children were very glad to receive the tablets as this will contribute towards their online education. In 2021, the Motilal Oswal Foundation joined hands with Child Help Foundation for the CFE project to improve it further. With their support, we have been able to provide more facilities to the students. Other Project Locations:With the consistent success at the Sakhare Ashram Shala, Child Help Foundation decided to expand the CFE project to reach out to more students from neighboring villages. Thus, in 2021, we established well-functioning CFE models in the villages of Bhopoli, Murbaad and Vangani, in Palghar, Maharashtra. Currently, the number of beneficiaries in all our project locations are as follows: India’s education scenario does not provide an equal ground to all students. Educational institutions with good infrastructure are the only ones capable of providing a good academic experience to its students. This educational divide has increased with the pandemic. With schooling becoming online, the rural areas with lack of infrastructure were unable to impart the necessary education to the students. Thus, the students who are already lacking behind their urban counterparts, were only demotivated to continue studying. This has been a major reason for children dropping out of schools. The lack of theoretical and vocational training among them would further lead to unemployment, leading to a decelerated economic and social development and growth. Government simply didn't seem to listen to its people.whether it was protests over the felling of trees in the Aarey forest of the metro yard or the farmers of Nasik protesting the acquisition of land for the Samruddhi corridor or the bullet train project that will destroy tribel areas in Palghar and Dahanu. The new government will definitely inherit all of this and its common minimum programmer,yet to be spelt out for the public.will have to take a stand on these projects. It will also have to address BJP,s larger national agenda,from the push for the controversial National Register of Citizens and the Citizenship Amendment Bill,2019 which will allow further flexibility for dismantling of PSUs and contractualsation .As the three allies occupy the high moral ground again,it remains to be seen whether they bold together or abrogate their responsibility to the people of Maharashtra.
