💫 - do they believe in fate/propecy/destiny?
Eloise is a firm believer in “fate isn’t magic”, so while she does sort of believe in fate, prophecy and destiny is ruled out. Oh sure, deities and other powers and people can meddle all they want, but Eloise’s inclined to believe that a higher power doesn’t truly matter where that’s concerned – fate is just accumulation of choices, after all. Choices, and the lots you draw.
A bit different from Eloise’s view of things, Narua does indeed believe that fate or destiny or whatnot is indeed a thing. Does everyone have one? Not really, if you ask her, but there’s people who’re bound to end up doing something, or ending up somewhere. She’s a little more similar to her wife in the rest of it, though. You might end up doing something, or end up somewhere, because the higher powers said so, but most of the choices will be yours to make.
Lililei doesn’t believe in any of them. It’s all nonsense to her.
Tabitha, admittedly, tries to not think about it too much. Perhaps there is, perhaps there isn’t, and either way it’s a painful experience. If things were up to simple fate, she’s inclined to think whoever’s behind it is kind of a major dick.
Nim also does not believe in fate or prophecies or any sort of destiny bullshit. Like Eloise, they think it’s all up to you, but wildly veering away from her thoughts on the subject, they moreso think that whatever happens it on you, and up to you. …yeah please don’t take Nim’s opinions or life advice at face value, it’s not good for you. Or anyone.
Clarissa does believe in all of them! A surprise! It’s not always the big things, though – sometimes, things happen. Maybe it makes you do something you wouldn’t normally do. Or maybe you behave perfectly in-character! Either way, sometimes something will go differently, and there isn’t always a rational rhyme or reason to it.
Sechen kind of does, though like… most of my characters, she thinks that how you react to it is a far more powerful force than destiny. Destiny’s destiny, though. You’ll end up there whether you want to or not; it’s just if you choose to deal with it that’s more important.
Henida goes through phases – sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t, sometimes he’s too deep into his work that he’ll start spouting utter nonsense at the question.
Yellow Dove also thinks it’s bullshit, but maybe a little less strongly about it than Nim… She falls far closer to being “eh” about it than they do, in any case.
Today I learned: …most of my characters don’t believe in fate or prophecy or destiny. Whether that’s because it’s in-line with their personalities and upbringings or a subconcious reflection of my own beliefs, I have no idea.
