Nero hadn’t been home in years, travelling far away for work over seas and to see the world that Dante had always mentioned being so beautiful and filthy all at the same time. Having left, Nero learned what he had meant. While it was a wash of neon, colors, music and lively people, it was also insufferable. People were no different out there than the Order had been back in Fortuna. 

Bag on his back he knocks on the man’s door. Dante, presumably, not too far away. Dante always playfully took his siblings temper up a notch higher than what it had been originally if not just to poke a little fun at him and get him riled. 

No answer. No matter, Nero knew how to get in; he’d never lost the key at least. Digging it from his pockets he let himself in. The house is immaculate. It looks clean enough that perhaps no one lives here. He knows better, however; Vergil never left behind much trace of his existence. If you knew him enough, however, it wasn’t hard to pick up the subtleties he left behind. Not a spec of dust on the tables, the floor is pristine. If he isn’t home currently he was probably less than a day away. If the fridge is low he might be getting groceries. 

He doesn’t waste time, starting a load of laundry he settles back into the house, Dante working on getting enough rent to pay off a new lease for DMC (Part of the problem was Dante never getting rent home in time). Once he’s settled and things are neatly put away, clothes in the wash and his jacket and vest hanging on the line to sun bathe, Nero goes to take his shower and ‘pass some time’ now that he was alone. Traveling with Dante had it’s perks and it’s heavy downfalls; one of those heavy downfalls is the open-door policy Lady and Trish both seemed to share with out warning. He’d been caught in the buff a few times too early in the morning (Enough times that he’d started to wear briefs to bed).

Okay, so this was a new one. “You’re wearing my clothes...” He almost wanted to smile, but he wasn’t sure if he should. “It’s been a few days, I figured you’d be gone by now.”

Small footsteps made their way to the Demon King’s lair, the servant hooded, walking fast with their head down and hands together. Held together to stop them from trembling. For this servant was the petrified barer of bad news. 

They approached the throne, bowed and then knelt. When finally given permission to speak, trembling lips parted. “My Lord, I’m afraid something terrible has befallen Master Dante. He’s been captured, myself and the other guards tried to fight off the winged demons but to no avail. They were a distraction while the one they call Mundus stole your brother away.” 

The servant shivered, sure this meant the end of it’s worthless life. If there was one thing not to be harmed under Vergil’s rule, it was his beloved brother, Dante. “Please forgive us, My Lord. We tried.”

Somewhere, in a dark cavern the screams could be heard echoing and ricocheting off the stone walls. Dante then spit blood in the face of some demon, who only shocked him with a prod in return. “Fuck you.” The Devil Hunter sneered, determined not to let this break his spirit. Never losing hope that Vergil would literally move heaven and earth to get him back.

A voice spoke to him, seeming from within Dante’s mind, the shine of three red orbs of light blinding him. “Save your screams, Son of Sparda. We’ve only just begun, and your suffering will be legendary.”

The first blow hurt but the second sent him reeling, his head spinning as he fell limp as far as the chains would let him fall. His mouth opened and closed, as if he wanted to speak but nothing would come out. He lay dazed for a moment but as soon as any strength returned to him, he pushed himself back up. It hurt, everything hurt, there was not an inch of him that escaped pain - but he pushed himself back up and levelled a glare on Vergil. 

Fresh blood welled up in his mouth and without hesitation, he spat it at Vergil. He could never fight him. But he could resist, and did with all his might. 

“I’m not going anywhere.”

Dante hardly had time to react when the feeling of blood splattering, force against his face and the sound of cartilage breaking assaulted his senses.

Stumbling forward, it hadn’t been his first time having a broken nose, so he didn’t move a hand to cradle the wound, sucking it up and hangs his head, spitting out blood from having bit his lip in the process.

A hand gripping the back of his head jolted him out of his trance, watching this bastard just taste the crimison that flowed from his wound sickened him. and hearing him call him a rarity bothered him to no end.

Lifting his head up he just smirked at the man and spat some blood at his face.

“You can’t afford me.” the words dropping from his lips like the brat he was, “I belong to no one, so good try~”
