Your Guide to Elevating Street Style from Runway to Reality
In the ever-evolving world of fashion, certain trends stand the test of time, and one such trend that has consistently made a statement is the crop top for women.
From the high-octane runways of fashion capitals to the bustling streets where style enthusiasts flaunt their unique looks, crop tops have transcended the boundaries of seasonal trends to become a wardrobe staple.
In this comprehensive guide, we will delve into the origins, the evolution of style crop tops, and offer tips on how to incorporate them seamlessly into your everyday wardrobe.
Crop Top Chronicles: A Quick History
To truly understand the impact of crop tops on contemporary fashion, it's essential to explore their roots. Crop tops date back to ancient civilizations, with variations seen in traditional Indian attire and Ancient Egypt.
However, it wasn't until the mid-20th century that crop tops gained popularity in Western fashion. With the rise of youth culture in the 1960s and 1970s, crop tops became a symbol of rebellion and self-expression.
Crop Tops: Runway Revival
Fast forward to the present, and crop tops have found their way back onto the runways of high-end fashion houses. Renowned designers have reinvented the classic crop, incorporating luxurious fabrics, intricate detailing, and innovative silhouettes.
The style crop tops seen on runways not only redefine fashion norms but also inspire the high street and street style fashion.
Crop Tops Unleashed: Style for Every Occasion
One of the key reasons for the enduring popularity of crop tops is their incredible versatility.
Whether you're heading to the office, a casual brunch, or a night out on the town, there's a crop top for every occasion.
Pair a chic, tailored crop top with high-waisted trousers for a sophisticated office look, or opt for a flowy bohemian crop top with denim shorts for a laid-back weekend vibe.
Red Carpet Crop: Celebrity Style Inspo
Celebrities play a pivotal role in shaping fashion trends, and crop tops are no exception. From red carpet events to off-duty street style, celebrities have been spotted rocking crop tops in myriad ways.
Influential figures like Rihanna, Kendall Jenner, and Zendaya have showcased the versatility of crop tops, proving that this trend is here to stay.
DIY Crop Tops: Unleash Your Style
One of the most exciting aspects of crop tops is the opportunity for customization. Embrace your inner fashionista by transforming old t-shirts or oversized tops into trendy crop tops.
With a pair of scissors and a dash of creativity, you can create unique pieces that reflect your personal style. DIY crop tops are not only sustainable but also add a touch of individuality to your wardrobe.
Crop Tops: Beyond Summer Style
While crop tops are often associated with warm weather and summer vibes, they can seamlessly transition into fall and even winter with the right layering.
Pair a long-sleeved crop top with high-waisted jeans and a stylish jacket for a cozy yet fashionable winter look. The key is to experiment with layering and textures to adapt this summery staple to different seasons.
Crop Tops for All: Inclusive Fashion for Every Shape
Fashion is for everyone, and the inclusivity movement has significantly impacted the design and availability of crop tops.
Brands are now offering a diverse range of sizes and styles, ensuring that crop tops are accessible to individuals of all body shapes and sizes. Embrace your unique silhouette and find a crop top that makes you feel confident and empowered.
Sustainable Chic: The Crop Top Revolution
As the fashion industry grapples with the environmental impact of fast fashion, there is a growing emphasis on sustainable and ethical practices.
The future of crop tops lies in eco-friendly materials, ethical production processes, and a shift towards conscious consumerism. Keep an eye out for brands that prioritize sustainability, ensuring that your crop top collection aligns with your values.
Conclusion
From the runways of Paris to the streets of New York, crop tops have proven to be a timeless and adaptable fashion staple. As we navigate the ever-changing landscape of style, the crop top for women continues to evolve, offering endless possibilities for self-expression and creativity.
Whether you're drawn to the high fashion allure of runway-inspired crop tops or prefer the DIY approach to customization, there's no denying the enduring appeal of this wardrobe essential.
As we wrap up this exploration of crop tops, we'd love to hear from you! Share your favorite ways to style crop tops or any personal anecdotes related to this fashion trend in the comments below. Fashion is a conversation, and your input adds a unique perspective to the ongoing dialogue.

How Loving Fashion Has Brought My Mother and I Closer
You can blame my mother for my lifelong track record of great outfits. Since the day I was born, everything about my appearance — from the bows on my head to the frilly dresses I wore to family events — was meticulously planned by my mother. Every back-to-school season, she’d pick out ribbons and beads to make me headbands that matched my school uniform, and she would pick out fabrics for us to wear in the form of mummy-and-me dresses. I can’t remember a time in my life when fashion wasn’t part of my life. It wasn’t a vanity thing, but rather a tool my mother used to teach me how to navigate the world as a woman, who would need to get clear about who she was and where she wants to be really fast. She always taught me how to look my best, whatever that meant to me — even when I preferred sneakers to her beloved heels or all-black outfits to her often vibrant palette.
The relationship I have with my mother revolves around this shared love. When I was a teenager, we’d take our weekly shopping trips to the local mall where I’d pick out outfits for her to try on and she’d play stylist with me. When I moved out of her apartment, she even gifted me a Vogue adult colouring book so we could bond over our amateur art at a distance. Loving fashion is how I love my mother.
With me in NYC and her in Puerto Rico, we’re mostly relegated to sharing #OOTD inspo on Pinterest and Instagram. But that changed when the pandemic led me to move in with her for five months in 2020.
Enthused by the promise of a return to IRL offices following vaccinations, we were both inspired to make clothes for work. I sent her inspiration photos of a few of Princess Diana’s monochrome suits and spent hours at the local fabric store, one of the few remaining in my hometown of Caguas, walking the aisles filled with organza, taffeta, silk, and cotton fabrics to find the perfect linen and polyester blends to make mix-and-matchable suits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With $250, I was able to get fabrics to make an eight-piece capsule collection of back-to-work outfits that, to me, are priceless. But what really excited me was the opportunity to work with my mother again. Reflective of our new relationship as two adults, our fashionable connection is more collaborative than it was during my childhood. After years living in New York and writing about the fashion industry, I’m able to bring in an aesthetic sensibility that aligns with today’s runway and street style trends. Meanwhile, my mother’s unmatched sewing skills, which she’s mastered for over 30 years, helps turn my vision into real garments. If we were to do this full-time, I’d be a creative director and my mother would be the atelier’s premiére.
We’re not the only ones who have bonded this way. “Fashion is a big part of our relationship – we have gone through many chapters of our lives where fashion always played a different role,” said Charlotte de Geyter, who, along with her mother Bernadette de Geytor, launched the brand Bernadette in 2018. “Having our brand together is a completely new and thrilling chapter for our relationship.”
Based in Antwerp, the mother-daughter duo make ready-to-wear and home collections that exude the kind of classically chic aesthetic they channel in their personal lives, featuring lots of silky pyjamas sets, bold skirts, and white button downs that feel more like family heirlooms than brand-new clothes.
As a lifelong fashion enthusiast and former buyer for Ralph Lauren, Bernadette archived many of the clothes from her youth, saving them for when Charlotte was old enough to appreciate and wear them. “If I look at these clothes she wore when she was in her twenties, I feel like I get to know her at a point in her life when I wasn’t born yet,” said Charlotte. Much like me and my mother, Charlotte and Bernadette spent Charlotte’s childhood perusing stores, particularly an Antwerp-based luxury boutique called Cocodrilo, where the two marvelled at the shoes.
For Akua Shabak and Rebecca Henry of House of Aama, the fashion connection started with crafts. Henry grew up knitting and sewing, and she passed those skills along to her daughter.
“When [Akua] got to high school and started wanting to upcycle and create her own clothes, I was there to help her,” said Henry. The two started their brand as an Etsy store stocked with upcycled clothes they made. Now, they’re CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund honorees, with a New York Fashion Week show under their belt. While Henry may be the master sewer, Shabak is the creative leader, and according to her mother, the boss: “She’s the one who’s whipping everyone into shape.”
As folklorists and history enthusiasts, Shabak and Henry dive into their own familial heritage through their collections. Their debut lineup called “Bloodroot” took inspiration from their Southern lineage and the post-Antebellum period. Their latest collection “Salt Water” comments on the relationship many Black people have with water, from the painful and joyful to the religious and cultural. It focuses in particular on Black resort communities like Manhattan Beach in California and Martha’s Vineyard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While my mother and I have not shown our collaborations at New York Fashion Week (yet!), the process of making clothes together for five months both challenged and connected us, deepening our relationship. We started with a grey checked two-piece shorts suit with oversized ‘80s padded shoulders. I was transported to my childhood whenever my mother would ask me to come into her sewing room to get fitted. Decades later, I still knew the drill: get undressed, stand patiently, watch out for sharp pins, and repeat. This time, I got comfortable enough to make suggestions to shorten the hemlines or place the button a little higher.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rest of the suits happened quickly. My mother would lock herself for hours in her home atelier and would only pop out to ask me questions or ask me to come in to get fitted. She never presented the final garments on hangers; instead, she put them on her mannequin form for me to see if I wanted to make any changes. In a span of three months, she made four suits. Of course, she finished them off with her namesake logo on the pieces.
Through it all, I saw how much my mother still cared that my clothes express who I am. She was excited about the possibility of me going back to the office and parading her suits at New York Fashion Week. All these years later, she’s still using clothes to walk me through the reality of being a young woman.
When I packed the suits to head back to New York, I felt giddy at the thought of flaunting my mother’s clothes too, determined to care for them like I would a family heirloom. A few weeks later, I put on one of the suits — a monochrome, bright yellow two-piece — for a job interview over video chat. I felt as though my mom was launching me into the next phase of my adult life, and in the process, bonding us even more.
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

a smol update
ah well considering the last few weeks have been quite messy in terms of productivity I have found that the submission date is leaping closer. essentially I have got my foot in the door in terms of research into jewellers, tools & supplies services. there are a few ways we could produce this project either manually or through a third party. we have inquired with some jeweller services in Auckland to work with and found a potential service located in Avondale. G & A Warburtons is a seemingly reliable and highly rated jewellers company that specialises in jewellery tools, services, designing and packaging - pretty much a great start off for jewellery making initiative. Aicha and I have set out to keep searching for other potential companies with cheaper or more convenient services. we are currently looking to send in the proper dimensions, designs and packaging preferences. as stated previously, we will produce only sterling silver and gold as these are more commonly worn and versatile metals. we have also opted to take a stance on our business name change from "UNKNOWN" to "Plan B" as we feel like there are many changes and challenges we’ve faced already during our business venture. we felt like this minor change can represent lot about the company - we just felt that UNKNOWN was pushing a general and mediocre “edgy” approach, and we want to be represented as authentically as we can.
Below are some research copied and pasted from google doc:
Plan B “Jewellery” Research/Inspo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFf4rmyMZWQ Youtube Inspo story on how Bobby White became a Jeweler
“Always a reason” behind pieces/creations (should be able to tell its own story) Letting jewellery speak for itself
Need your own style! Especially if you want your own designed products
When creating for other people you need to look at the person as a whole and work with that
Becoming a jeweller, you NEED to love the process! Need to love everything from designing it, creating new pieces to being in the office/shop for hours and days of repetitive work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7fm3mG6jv4 Youtube clip more around the fundamentals of creating and running your own Jewelry business
Don't need to have any specific qualifications to get a head start into the jewellery industry
Key steps to making jewellery
Design Jewelry (used special 3d app)
Print 3d wax using 3d printer
Take 3d printed wax and turn it into gold (casting)
File, sand and polish gold piece
Setting diamonds on the piece (optional)
Final polishing of the pieces
Gold Facts
Pure/ 24 karat gold (stated as 999.9 gold as 100% pure gold is impossible to achieve) and always coloured yellow
Gold is mixed with other metals such as silver and copper because it is too soft and wouldn’t be durable to make jewellery with.
The higher the karat the higher amount of gold is in the piece. Common types of gold: 10K, 14K, 18K, 24K *In the US 10 carats is legally not considered the gold
Also the higher amount of gold the richer gold and colour in the piece E.g 10K gold has 41.7% & 14K has 58.3% gold
3 different colours to gold: White gold, Yellow gold and Rose gold Platinum silver palladium + pure gold = more white Cooper + pure gold = more pink/rose
Whiter gold to be rhodium plated due to casting process taking away its white finish Once these are melted together they can’t separate
Testing for Gold
Can buy an acid kit (eBay), this includes a scratchpad in which you starch your gold onto and then pour a small drop of liquid (supplied with the kit, each bottom is provided to test each amount of carat) on top of the scratch. If the gold starts to dissolve then it is less carat of what you have just tested for and if it does not then it is that carat or more
Electrical pen test; same method as an acid kit but with the pen, touch the gold piece and the connection pad will indicate the range in which the carat being tested actually is.
Most reliable testing is using a Gold testing gun (jeweller shops should have this already, so you can go in and ask for gold pieces to be examined and moderated)
*Carat markings can easily be faked
Eg having a 14k marking on a bracelet which is only really 10k
To check gold prices use https://www.kitco.com/
Diamond Facts
Diamonds are mined in countries such as China, Russia, Canada, South Africa, then other countries may buy them and are then purchased by diamond dealers in jewellery district (area in which focus on manufacturing as well as nourishing jewellery) who make pieces and sell them in retail stores.
Diamonds set in metal are called loose diamonds Jewellers look for how many loose diamonds they'll need, quality, size and quantity and then will buy off diamond dealers to make their piece.
Diamond carat and Gold carat are very completely different Diamond= Weight of diamond Gold= Purity of gold
The Four C’s
Colour - Diamonds have lots of different colour variations - Letter D means no colour, and no colour means the stone is worth a lot - This is the opposite to a stone that has more colour, the more yellow the stone the the less it is worth - Always look into colours D-H
Treated diamonds; diamonds made into different colours such as yellow, cognac (reddish brown) and blue This process is done by using white diamonds that are high in yellow colour (bad quality) and using a heating method to change its colour
Clarity - Some disadvantage to its beauty can be the cloudiness, scratches and pieces of black carbon of the stone (called Inclusions) - Like with the colour, the less inclusion the better the stone - There is also a clarity grading chart for diamonds - Good target for SI quality diamonds (Slightly Inclusive) - people checking for clarity of the stone usually use magnifying glasses to check
Cut: Different cuts of the stone can better its shine ‘round brilliant is a popular shape cut’
Carat weight: Carat is just the weight of the diamonds
Tumblr media
Using https://www.fiverr.com/ & https://www.cgtrader.com/
Used these two websites to look and download 3d models of pieces
cgtrader: shows you how 3d render model pieces would look like after it is finished. Here you can purchase the design as well as even contact the designer and also see how many diamonds you’ll need for the piece and the total carat weight
The cost of pieces will vary depending on how detailed and how big the piece is.
Once the designer has finished making your file, they’ll send back an STL or 3D M file in which will be ready to print
Good tip: build a portfolio of 3d files in which you will mask for production

Chains with flat think links
Limited flexibility
Herringbone, snake and omega chains are usually the weakest
Best Metals for Necklace Chains:

What To Wear To A Job Interview In Every Industry
Tumblr media
What's the something that can make a job interview less frightening? Self-confidence.
Keep in mind, if you have actually been asked to come in for an interview, they're already impressed with your skills and experience-- but your attire will give you an extra increase. There are no set rules for what to use to the office, however there are standards and a few things to consider: the company culture, the position you're opting for, and comfort. We've broken it down, industry by industry, so you can avoid that pre-interview panic. If it's a corporaterole ... E.g. Accounting, banking, monetary services, insurance coverage, realty or basic management You go, woman! These are among the most business markets
worldwide, so you'll desire to keep your appearance classic, polished, and on the conservative side. You're interviewing for a top-dog position, so reveal them how major you are by suiting up.Once you're in the role, you won't always need to use a power fit every day, but it sends out the message that you indicate company. Showpo does not have actually that lots of tailored matches available just yet (we do have this one though-- chic AF), however our PR whiz, Kelly, has produced a mood board for inspo(isn't she a gem?). With suits, you get what you spend for. The quality varies extremely, so see yours as a financial investment piece. Now, let's talk information.
Believe clean, tailored lines for straight-legged pants or a knee-length pencil skirt. If you're more of a woman, look for a strong colour and a hemline that falls below the knee. Your sports jacket ought to be wise and fit you like a glove, and you can show a tiny bit of personal design with the shirt. I'm talking subtle prints or flourishes, like bows. Choose for a silk blouse, soft linen shirt or turtleneck, and ensure it's tidy, ironed/steamed, and does not reveal excessive cleavage(as great as yours might be). Something with sleeves is best, and if you're stuck, opt for the top that has a greater neckline. As for devices, let a bit more of your personality peek through with a pair of studs, fragile rings, or a pendant necklace. The finer the piece, the much better-- so conserve your declaration
jewellery for celebratory beverages with your pals. A good guideline to keep in mind is: if in doubt, leave it out.Finish your business interview appearance with a chic bag( benefit points if it has a leading handle), timeless black pump or dressy bootie
. It's amazing what a heel can do for your self-confidence levels! If it's a legal position ... E.g. Lawyer, lawyer, associate, solicitor or paralegal The exact same rules apply here. When you get the job, you'll be expected todash between the conference room and the courtroom with poise, so your wardrobe ought to look the part. In a corporate setting, that boils down to a timeless black or navy fit and a crisp blouse. Get your fit customized for a perfect fit, and stand apart among the sea of interviewees with a quite, patterned shirt. If it's the middle of summer season, ditch the coat. Choose a silk, button-down shirt (long-sleeved, please)and a knee-length skirt-- that method, you'll still look formal, and fight that bead of sweat threatening to roll down your back. Oh, and the days of compulsory pantyhose are long gone-- as long as your hemline hits or passes your knee, you're great without. If the job remains in tech, or at a start-up ... E.g. Designer, interactions executive, content strategist, IT rep, engineer, item supervisor or coder Start-ups are more laidback when it comes to dress codes. They're young, inclusive and do n't attempt too hard, so there's a great chance your recruiterwill be using jeans and tennis shoes. But while you can keep it casual in this environment, you still require to look semi-professional. Choose dark denim or trim pants, with a sleeveless top, chambray button-down, or longline vest. Pleated skirts and gowns are fantastic, too, particularly if they're not too short or figure-hugging . Pop on a pair of booties, obstruct shoes or, and a small, structured bag, and you'll fit right in amongst the hipsters and creatives.Sure, Mark Zuckerberg wears the very same grey tee shirt every day of his life, but he's made it. For your interview, goal to dress a half-notch up from everybody else. To determine what that may be, research study! Study about the business culture, stalk their social networks accounts, and look at images from past events. If the function is in the media, arts or imaginative industries ... E.g. Art director, author, editor, professional photographer, production assistant, marketing manager, account executive
, graphic designer or PR representative For success in this industry, you need
to be innovative and collaborative. Your interview clothing must have the same flexible-yet-professional ambiance. When you're putting the pieces together, believe'polished. 'Choose well-fitting denim or printed trousers, with a button-down shirt or structured short-sleeve top. Or, attempt a trendy pantsuit(yep, actually! ). In the warmer months, opt for a shift dress, or A-line skirt and printed blouse combination. While we 'd encourage you to keep your hemlines low and necklines high, do not hesitate to include a pop of colour to your look-- whether it's your clothing, shoes or bag. As always, your jewellery shouldn't be OTT. Use a watch, necklace or bracelet-- as long as it does not jangle!-- and a pair of studs or sleepers, and leave it out.If the task is in fashion ... E.g. Style editor, purchaser, retail assistant, stylist, designer, merchandiser Congrats on scoring a fashion interview! We might be a bit biased, however it's such a fun industry to be in. While it may
be appealing to wear a head-to-toe runway look, that's far too distracting. Do not peacock. Rather, use something that highlights your individual design-- and if that includes an on-trend piece, so be it. Simply watch out for using every edgy, fashion-forward item in your wardrobe. If you're speaking with for a specific brand name or label, attempt to include one of their pieces into your clothing. Do not have any? Just keep their aesthetics in mind. And if you're making an application for a more basic role, prevent blatant branding. In
other words, you can wear that immaculately-cut investment piece, so long as the designer's name or logo design isn't scrawled throughout it.( This goes back to the interruption thing.)Choose one captivating piece, such as a colourful skirt, gorgeous bag, leather jacket or statement heels, and balance it out with classics and neutrals. By doing that, you'll hint at your sense of style while showing your job interviewer that you're ready to work.Lastly ... The small details count! Beauty-wise, arrive with tidy hair, manicured nails, and fuss-free makeup. Everyone notifications bags and shoes, so make certain yours are in excellent condition (aka no scuffs or stains!), and match the style of your outfit.Words by Katia Iervasi. Beautiful Homes of Instagram Happiness has arrived! I honestly feel extra happy when I share a new “Beautiful Homes of Instagram” post with you. I find these posts are so helpful if you’re looking for inspiration because these talented homeowners are always full of incredible ideas and many DIY projects. Today, I am honored to feature Selena from @middlesisterdesign. She and her husband are a DIYers and I am sure your jaw will drop as much as mine did when you see all of the projects done in this house. I hope you guys have a great time and get some inspiration here to apply to your home! I am definitely sharing this post with my husband! “I am so honored to have our home featured on Home Bunch! When Luciane contacted to ask if she could feature it, I was quite shocked and beyond excited! To have our humble little home that we’ve poured our hearts and souls into displayed next to some of the most beautiful homes on Instagram is just such an incredibly exciting gesture. Thank you Luciane. And thank you all for visiting! Welcome to our home! A little intro to myself. I’ve had a passion for Interior Design and Décor for as long as I can remember. It was merely a “hobby” of mine for many years. Until 2 years ago I worked part time as a bank teller. One day my husband suggested that I pursue my dreams of having my own Interior Styling business. After a lot of deliberation, I decided to go for it and Middle Sister Design was born. I specialize, and take pride in being a more budget friendly, less complicated, savvy stylist for the homeowner who desires a well-dressed home without the large price tag. Simple, Smart and Savvy; that’s my motto! I began a Blog, have had much success with local clients and have loved every minute of it. (And have not once missed wearing heels to work, counting dirty money or trying to upsell. There’s still so much for me to learn and I have big plans for the future of my Blog and Business. When my husband and I decided to build our home nearly 10 years ago we had just been married less than a year. We had viewed many homes in the area’s “cookie-cutter” neighborhoods and while we were uncertain of exactly what we wanted, we knew these were not it. We decided to scour the internet for land as well as for house plans. My husband found a 2 ½ acre piece of land that was only 5 minutes from my childhood home and I found the house plans (we disagreed on LOTS of them before finding the “perfect” one.). We both liked the bones of the house plan I’d found, however there were many things we didn’t love and so we sought help from a local Architect and custom home building company. With their assistance, we made changes to much of the main floor plan. I would describe my design style as somewhat eclectic. Growing up in the South and in a more traditional style home, you will find a bit of it throughout my own. However, being a lover of trends, I do enjoy bringing pieces of trendy items into the mix. Neutral, natural, earth inspired elements are my favorite. My Grandparents lived on a farm and from my memories of spending the summers there stem an adoration for that lovely, cozy farmhouse feel. My take on modern farmhouse industrial and boho chic also play a part in this eclectic style of mine. I truly do have an appreciation for all the styles.” Beautiful Homes of Instagram We kept to the original plans for the exterior of the home aside from choosing much larger windows shown above as well as the Stacked Stone veneers from Eldorado Stone in the color Alderwood. We loved that stone so munch in fact that we decided to carry it over to the entire foundation all around the entire house. The siding is Vinyl in the color ivory and all gutter work and trim are vinyl as well in white. We have designed and installed all of the landscaping ourselves and while that is a job in itself, the toughest part is keeping the multitude of deer from eating all of our hard work. Porch Front Porch stain is James T Davis solid stain in the color Tree Bark. The swing is from Hayneedle and the wicker conversation chairs are from Pier 1. Rugs are from Target. Front Door Front door color is basic black exterior paint. Welcome Home! The front door opens to the Great Room which was actually 3 rooms on the original floor plan; Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room. This, even on blue prints, looked incredibly cramped and we all agreed that an open concept would be a more unique and inviting look for this space. Another favorite unique feature of mine is the little “shelf” above the foyer’s close/master bedroom door. I chose to display the driftwood pieces my sister has collected from a nearby river for me over the years, knowing my love for it. Living room Sectional Sofa and chair in this space are the Ikea Ektorp Slipcover Series, both in Bleking White. DIY DIY Inspo: Bookshelves, side tables and coffee table were all built by my husband. Rug is Bleached Jute from Overstock. Fireplace We decided to take the fireplace all the way to the top of the high ceilings using the same stone used on the exterior – Stacked Stone veneers from Eldorado Stone in the color Alderwood. Paint Color Paint color for the entire main floor is Benjamin Moore HC-173 Edgecomb Gray. DIY Shiplap Kitchen The shiplap wall was added by us last year. We used 4×8 wood floor underlayment from Home Depot, cut into 6” strips and installed using liquid nails and a small brad nail gun, using nickels as spacers. It was such an easy project that creates such dramatic results. And best of all, incredibly inexpensive. Paint color is White. This open concept would require reconfiguring the entire kitchen layout which was tricky but in the end, we chose a unique island style and designed using Kraftmaid cabinets all the way to the ceiling to utilize every inch of this small space for storage as possible. Cabinets are solid maple in the color Biscotti. Dining room The table is a found item made from 100 year old barnwood. It was in bad shape when I found it but I put a little love into it and she’s as good as new. The bench at table, sideboard and industrial shelves were built by my husband. The two captain’s chairs are from Ikea. Rug is the bleached jute from World Market. Grasscloth shades are from JC-Penney. Doors The French Doors in the Dining Room were not a part of the original plan. In fact, there was only one small window here as well as in the kitchen area. The French Doors open to a large deck, also not part of the original plans. Landing Upstairs are two bedrooms and a full bath. The landing at the top of the stairs houses a chair that is a family heirloom. Another favorite space of mine. All flooring throughout the home is oak with the exception of two upstairs bedrooms. Neutral Bedroom Paint Color Our daughter is grown and no longer lives with us. When converting her bedroom into an office for myself, I wanted to keep a bit of “youth” to this room but also wanted it to be a place for guests of all ages to feel comfortable. I chose fun, on trend patterns and lots of textures for this space. The chair rail was installed when the home was built. Last year I installed the faux board and batten using 1 ½ inch lattice strips. Paint color on walls is Khaki by Valspar. Board and batten and all trim and doors are basic white paint. Simple. Bedding is from Pottery Barn and all furniture is the Ikea Hemnes series. Guest Bedroom The second bedroom has always been a guest bedroom but it too got the board and batten treatment last year. Wall paint color is also Khaki by Valspar. Bed & Bedding The bed is an antique, Amish made, chalk painted with Valspar chalk paint in the color Kid Gloves. French Provincial nightstand and dresser were mine as a child, painted the same as bed. Bedding is from various stores. I like to pay extra attention to detail as well as cost into the bedding of the guest beds. Linen, high quality cotton and extra down comforters are a great way to give that 4 & 5 star hotel feel. Master Bedroom The Master Bedroom layout is original to the plans. Of course, as mentioned before, with the exception of making those windows much larger. This is one of my personal favorite changes that we made. Paint Color Wall paint color is Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray HC-173. Shiplap Bed The shiplap bed, nightstands, bench and large mirror were built by my husband. The jute rug is from World Market. Bedroom Chair This slipcovered chair brings a relaxed feel to this farmhouse bedroom. Lamps are from Target. Antique Door Hung with barn door hardware, this salvage door adds so much character to the master bedroom. Master Bathroom When built our home we’d installed a jetted garden tub. Four years ago though, we decided to rip it out and replace with this Clawfoot Slipper Tub from Vintagetub.com. This is the Randolph Morris 67 Inch Cast Iron Slipper Tub. I cannot express how much I adore this tub. Also in this space, we designed a much larger window here than the original floor plans. One of my favorite pastimes during the snowy season is soaking here while watching the snow fall. Laundry room We reconfigured what was intended to be a mud room/powder room off of the kitchen area into a small powder room and laundry room. There were two reasons for this. One, taking square feet from this space allowed us to add them to the Master Bedroom’s Closet opposite the wall of this space. Two, making this space smaller meant there would be no place for an exterior entry door to enter the mudroom which worked well by adding a larger deck and doors in a different area, which I will describe below. We had decided earlier in the planning that a mud room was not necessary for us. The home has a full basement with garage. This is perfect for bringing in messes from long days of gardening or yard work. The industrial shelving were built by my husband. Powder room Here is the powder room. I decided to separate the powder room and laundry room with a pocket door which easily hides any laundry messes from potential unexpected guests- or when I simply want to “hide” it from myself! :). Towel ladder was built by my husband. Backyard Our backyard is currently getting a small makeover but I thought I’d share a photo of our firepit from last summer. I hope you enjoyed the home tour. Selena truly has inspired me in so many levels and I hope you feel the same. Did you guys have a good weekend? We’re busy trying to decide what to do with two rooms we don’t use much in our basement. I have so many ideas and I wish I could do all at once but we will have to take it slow, especially after our busy (read $$$) summer. Either way, it should be fun! Sometimes you learn to appreciate even more the things that take extra time and planning to be done. Have a Blessed week, my friends and thank you for being here.
