@aaloniel (our DM) and I collaborated recently to make snofits/winter outfit tokens for the Runaway Royals party and some of their NPC friends. @aaloniel designed the outfits and provided the colors, the sketches and linework are my work, including our little crown frames. We've collaborated on snofits and anniversary tokens for @helloallec's Exiled campaign in the past, so it was delightful to work together for another set of characters.

I think, it might be done! Also small because there’s spoilers aplenty.

Started on the 6th of December, and finished on the 6th of June there are approximately 426 characters, its split almost perfectly between male and female. It follows the ruling lines of four royal families; Aylmer’s (light green), Ryder’s (red), Gunvald’s (indigo), and Ibarra’s (pink), but also one Fae branch (dark green), and the Mason’s (purple). Despite how much I wanted to, I held off from going into detail of sibling partners and offspring, or else this would never be finished. I might cave in later and add a few, but I’m trying very hard not to.

The Gunvalds actually have another dozen generations beyond those shown here, as they’ve been ruling for about 1,000 years, but this section of the tree only shows 500, or from when the Ryders split off from them.

I’ve got little stories and ideas for almost each generation, so my next task will be going through them one by one and making notes on what those stories are. Along with that I need to go through and add a little symbol to indicate unnatural deaths, and I’m debating on adding things for family crests, but those aren’t as important.

The Aylmers (light green) are based in Farrowsorn, and unfortunately don’t get much screen time, as they’re basically all killed off before the story gets going! Distinguishing features are bright green eyes and red hair, one of their princesses married into the Ryder family, which meant the Ryders hair took on a distinct red copper shine. They are matriarchal always having queens, and their current queen (before death) is Mona, with her husband Dery, and their three children Aisling, Ailill, and Madoc, along with a few cousins. 

The Ryders (red) are based in Kardoon, and as you know are the main royal family featured in the story.  Distinguishing features are bright blue eyes and golden blond hair, although now they have more copper colouring from their Aylmer heritage. Originally patriarchal, they eventually switched to the first born ruling regardless of gender. The current ruler is Cadeyrn, married to Tegan, with their three children Boudicca, Ivan, and Charon. 

The Gunvalds (indigo) are based in Ilithya, and are the second featuring royal family, they used to control most of North Naria, before the Ryders broke away and sparked a huge war. These days it calmed down and they’re buddies again.  Distinguishing features are dark brown eyes, and dark brown hair.  Originally patriarchal, they took a long time to switch to the first born ruling regardless of gender, and have a background rife with tyrannical rulers. The current ruler is Aurel, with his wife Valeria, and their three children Valko, Arabella, and Abbe. 

The Ibarras (pink) are based in Kiala, and barely feature in the story, so I’ve not go much on them. What I do know is that their cities are beautiful works of art, with glass and towers, colour and light. Distinguishing features will probably be along the lines of black hair and maybe blue eyes. They have an odd tradition of alternating genders of their rulers, their current ruler is Savio, with his wife Remei, and their three children, Ida, Isa, and Rias.

The Masons (purple) are not rulers, but are traditionally the Royal Guards to the Ryders, this tradition has landed them a nice house and large reputation that can be difficult to live up to. Unlike the royal families, the Masons have dwindled down rapidly, resulting in only two living members, Aaron and Willow, with Aarons wife Lilac having been killed pre-story.

The Fae (dark green) are the current Fae rulers, they don’t currently have a surname, but the Faevin (high queen) is Áine. Due to the Fae’s poly nature, they frequently have large families with numerous partners and dozens of siblings and offspring, resulting in wide family trees. An interesting feature of the Fae is their rulers are always born with golden eyes, usually this poses no problem, but every few generations two siblings are born with golden eyes, resulting in friction. Áine’s younger sister Aylín, was born with golden eyes, fanning the flames of jealousy in Áine, contributing to Áine’s regicide for the throne.

I think that’s all for now?? I could go one about every generations drama, but I’m going to save that for later, and also there’d be spoilers and I want to avoid posting them just yet.

Twelve years ago, Indigo's younger sibling, Coronet Wioletta, went missing in the gardens-- shortly after he refused to investigate a door with them because he was reading. The Sky-City has not moved from the mountains near the Winter Sea since that day.

Indigo's first visions came to him at his first ball, nine years ago, where he had a massive vision of the ballroom slipping into a battlefield and nearly all the young persons in attendance dying. Needless to say, this did not make him very popular at parties. Or, well, it might have but he withdrew to try and sort himself out. Shortly after he had his first proper contact with Dasnar, god of life and death, who had given him these visions. His next visions proved to play out more quickly, unfortunately, and Indigo's next prophecy was of his mother, Crown Bianca, falling from the sky when out on a griffon. Despite Indigo's begging, Bianca insisted on carrying out her duties and it did, indeed, come to pass. He was isolated almost completely after that. That was eight years ago. 

Six months ago, he left the city entirely having had visions of one of his older siblings, Coronet Jasmine, dying ill and not much older than she was at that moment. Scared, he had consulted with his brother, Coronet Ivy, and decided to leave and try to learn to cope with and possibly control his prophetic powers. He left notes for Coronet Jasmine, asking her to please look out for herself, and to his parent, Crown Azul, promising to return when he had a better handle on things so they would not worry that they had completely lost another child.

While in the Great Wood, Indigo found Kora on the forest floor, asleep, with the plant life of the forest actively trying to grown over him. Indigo managed to wake the sleeper and they traveled together from that point on.(During their travels, it would come to light that Kora was also royalty in a very strange way. He was a prince of Mina, now the City of Smoke, 300 years ago before getting turned into a tree.)

More recently, while staying at the Eventide Inn-- which travels!-- he was reunited with Coronet Wioletta. His sibling had, it turned out, been in the Feywild the whole time and had returned, shortly after his leaving court, and was looking for him. They had met up with Katina, Princess of Sura, who was on the run having been accused of her brother's murder. By this time they had all also fallen in with Friz, aka Prince Atama of the City of Smoke, who was on some sort of mission that involved taking directions from a floating penguin (with teeth?!) named Pablo Banana Bread.

As all roads seemed to be pointing towards Eska, Indigo's home, the party began traveling together.

Sunset & Starling, Princess Agathe & Coronet Indigo

This little ship is adorable and unexpected and I love it. Nothing like shared trauma and a shared passion for ornithology to kick off a romance, I guess?

This ship went from "I'm just being nice" to "I'm designing an engagement dagger" in like 72 hours and I love this for both of them.

OKAY.

So.

Indigo must assign these roles to characters in the campaign:

Person he can write to, but never see again

Person he can see always, but never talk to again

Person he can see and communicate with always

Person he never sees or hears from again

Hard Mode is to limit your answers to just the player-character party, but I'll spare you that if you rather include the NPCs too.

Okay this is so mean but also okay.

The Party is actually easier because it is genuinely process of elimination:

Write to, but never see again: Friz. I feel like they'd keep good contact and wouldn't need to see each other.

See, but never talk to: Wioletta. It would suck, but he'd be okay as long as he knew they were okay? Don't love that this implies Wio and Friz are not in the same place but okay.

See and communicate with always: Kora. No questions.

Never see/hear from again: Katina (sorry!) by process of elimination.

The reality is that the last category? Not something Indigo feels okay with in almost any context. Like, I guess easy answer would be Cordial but is Cordial really part of Indigo's life anyways? He would rather slate even Ivy into "see, but never talk to" or even "write to, but never see."

Another question for Indigo:

Why is he a cleric, not a paladin or a different class?

Circumstance?

I mean, he was on path to being a wizard, backstory-wise, so he was never winning in the strength category anyways.

Also, I feel like Indigo isn't on a specific mission or cause the way that shines so nicely with the paladin class. I feel like with Rigo he's all about the oaths, and even more so with Julian it's about the divine motivation and direction.

I also feel like Indigo is extremely focused on healing and minimizing pain and loss, which cleric just lends better to flavor-wise.

And, in a lot of ways, Dasnar is his sword and shield rather than the other way around. I think in some ways this has allowed Dasnar to have a more active presence in the campaign as a whole. Indigo yelping "Das! Help!" does something external to Indigo-- where as when Rigo calls on his goddens they strengthen something in him and he is the sword and shield.

I like divine classes because I love exploring different relationships with the divine in general. I love that Indigo finds comfort in the same god that technically causes his grief. I love that Rigo found purpose in Jolie that he couldn't find elsewhere. I love that Julian's divine belief in himself and others is no less divine than these other beliefs. It's just my thing, I guess?
