EATING FULL FAT MILK OR CHEESE TWICE A DAY COULD REDUCE YOUR RISK OF HEART DESEASE, NEW STUDY SUGGESTS.
Two helpings of full fat milk dairy products can lower the risk of heart desease. Foods such as yougurts and milk can reduce the chances of diabetes and obesity. The research was conducted by scientists at McMaster University in Canada, for years experts urged adults to skip full fat milk and cheese to stay healthy. Now it seems that those foods are not only delicious, but good for you. Research shows two helpings of full fat dairy products a day may lower the risk of Metabolic Syndrome ( Met S ) - the medical term for diabetes, high blood presure and obesity which is associated with greater risk of heart disease. Scientists at McMaster University Canada looked at a study of some 140,000 people from 21 countries conducted over nine years and full fat used questionaires to asses their diet over a year. A serving of milk or cup of yogurt was 244g, a slice of cheese 15g and butter 5g. In a B.M.J. journal, the researchers wrote: ‘Higher intake of whole fat ‘but not low fat dairy was associated with lower prevalence or Met S’. This adds to growing evidence in favour of unaltered full fat foods. The author Balaji Bhavandharini said: we report that intake of dairy products, especially whole fat products, is associated with lower prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its individual components at baseline, and lower risk of hypertension and diabetes during follow up. ‘If our findings are confirmed in sufficiently large and long term trials, then increasing dairy consumption may represent a feasible and low cost approach to reducing metabolic syndrome, hypertension, diabetes and ultimately cardiovascular disease events worldwide.

TURMERIC
Whilst we are reading about foods like full fat milk and dairy products that are surposed to help our wellbeing. Turmeric is a spice that is a perennial plant base native to southern Asia, its widely grown both for domestic and medicinal purposes and can be bought from the high street in health food shops, pharmacies and supermarkets. Its best known as a spice that is in indian foods of which I am rather fond off, its believed to have anti – inflammatory properties which could improve joints in us stroke survivors and older members in our group. We as stroke survivors over the years would have put some of our joints under immense strain having our good side compensate for our weak side and damage our joints and ligaments also in later life our joints become arthritic and become very painfull. It is said although not proven that turmeric can help with the following ailments, Depression, Type 2 diabetes, some viral infections, High cholesterol and Arthritis, Irritable bowl syndrome and Headaches although these have not been proven bye huge tests many people who take Turmeric as a supliment have said that the difference has been quite substantial. I would like to stress that you check with your doctor or medical personel before you consider taking turmeric and it would go together with exercise when used in connection with painfull joints. But its very tastefull in Indian takeaways.

CANNABIDOIL or C.B.D. OIL
Cannabidoil or more commonly called C.B.D. oil.
Peter asked me to give him for the newsletter a brief expose of my introduction to c.b.d. oil.
Well here goes.
I had visited the deal and district stroke group was making my way home via the javelin train and got into a conversation with a medical student studying at Christchurch University, who fortunately was studying pain management, which I considered was very apt, since I was really suffering from post stroke pain syndrome or PSPS for short. He asked me what I was taking to counter it and I reeled off all the usual drugs. Gabbapentin, Pregablin and lastly Amitripyline, all very dangerous man made drugs who’s primary use is for anti depressant use and which as a painkiller seemed to have absolutely no effect after an initial trial and no matter how many one took.He wrote a drug down on a piece of paper and just said try this, cannabidiol. He said that it was of the many constituents of the cannabis plant and that I should source but make sure that it didn’t involve the psychedelic element THC. Well I weaned myself off the so called pain killers and eventually found a legitimate source, namely Holland & Barratt when my youngest son, chris and his partner diane, took me over to Tunbridge wells for the day. Whilst they were otherwise engaged, I noticed a shop and went in and bought my first bottle. They had only just had a fresh delivery and I bought the last bottle, somewhat surprisingly from under the counter. I told the young lady what I wanted and she told me to let her know how I got on. So when we got home the trial begun, as I had two people to watch out for any strange reaction. The label on the bottle said to start off with 3 or 4 drops under the tongue and go up to a maximum of 15 drops per day and as there were an estimated 240 drops per bottle, this could be a long trial. It tasted like a bit of old rope, if one has ever had the chance to taste rope but after all it is called hemp. To counter the taste I put 3 drops into a cup of black tea and sat there waiting for a miracle to work and hey presto, within 30 minutes the pain had subsided and from then on I’ve been hooked on cbd oil without any of the supposed side effects. Of course my G.P. doesn’t know but he must realise that somethings up as I’m not taking any of his pain killers anymore.
Depressed, Who, Me!!!
As Dr Thom said repeatedly everyone is different and so whilst I’m the very epitome of this newly found wonder drug, it may not work for everyone. My pain is really brain based and not arthritic or bone based and so there one has the answer, methinks. Of course I’ve passed on my success story to anyone who will listen and some have been very successful with the oil and the cream. Betty a member of the deal stroke group recently asked me about it and now uses the cream on her stroke related painful knee and it seems to be doing the trick. So there you have it, suck it and see if it’ll work for you, plus Holland & Barratt sell it but wait until the buy one and get another for a penny and then buy 2.
Happy Daze.

JOHNS NOTICE BOARD
1. Hi everyone, well I hope you are all keeping well and have been able to amuse yourselves during the covid pandemic. It would appear we are coming to the end, as far as infection rates go, and some new exit policies will be announced shortly regarding meeting up as groups in clubs and bars. Some of you have recently began to reunite with grandchildren and families in your so called “BUBBLE.” We have been fortunate that this period has included some reasonable weather and made social distancing easy to do in gardens and open spaces. I do miss you all and fingers crossed we can meet up soon.
2. I did drive in to tovil club today ( mon 22nd june ) and got a bit of a shock to find it has turned into a proper building site, with clarendon construction building new homes there, so I am guessing we will probably only be able to use the bottom car park.
3. I have sent off relevant claim forms to Ernst & young the administrators for shearing, to claim back our deposits, but it looks like there probably be nothing left in the pot, but we can only try. Meanwhile I will return your money less £45 for those that have paid in full.
4. Cannot give a definitive answer as to wether the dod & duck outing will, or will not take place, that obviously will depend on a number of safe ADVICE factors.
5. I did hear from diane that june had a couple of falls and would probably need some closer examinations from her doctor.
Julie has been in hospital a couple of times with oxygen levels slightly depleted and water retention, she is home now and is being closely monitored by her G.P.
I spoke to bob sawyer a week ago, who said ( like us all ) was getting bored some days and was looking forward to seeing us all soon, as per usual his daughter emma had filled his fridge up so there was no chance of starving.
6. Looking on facebook it appears that most of you dads had a pleasant
FATHERS DAY and was able to see your familys that day, lovely. For me it was just me and the cat, a tin of whiskas and a tin of corned beef, and after a few red wines I cant remember who had what ??
7. Please all keep in contact with each other ( as I know most of you do) in your little groups, keep it up and hope to see you all soon.
BIRTHDAYS.
July 9th – wendy fenton ( now retired )
July 11th – marie shaw ( 91 wow! Congratulations )
July 15th – julie terry
July 19th – tony harman

I was really surprised to feel so at home when we stepped back into the van after flying in from Ibiza. It just goes to show how comfortable we are in the van. This is something that we don’t think people understand – we constantly have, very kind, offers of a room when we’re in home territory, as everyone seems to think we might like a break from the van. It’s very sweet of you to offer but we really are very happy and comfortable thank you (and we’ll soon ask if we want a room!!)
We were quite busy over the weekend, including helping our friends out so that they could stay on the same site as us on Saturday night. They had a courtesy car without a towbar so we towed their caravan for them…
Yes – we did get some looks!! (We didn’t, of course, use the little car on the road – that would be illegal..)
After a night out on Saturday we had a long lie-in which was desperately needed due to our self-inflicted ‘tiredness’.
On Tuesday we set off again for Herne Bay. However, the beauty of having no particular plans (i.e. bookings) is that you can change your mind whenever you want. In this case it was when we saw that Steve & Denise, who we had met in Spain, had finally returned to the UK and were staying overnight at a Caravan Club site on our route.
So we diverted to Bearstead, having asked if they minded of course… However their wifi was hit and miss so they didn’t get my message. When Denise replied to say ‘yes, of course, where are you?’ I answered – ‘In reception!’
We had a lovely evening catching up, which meant of course that all our good intentions regarding food and drink (i.e. none) went out the window, as we drank up a storm, ordered an Indian and polished off a pile of Marks & Spencers profiteroles!
Steve & Denise set off again in the morning to meet friends in Warwick, while we had a lazy morning. After lunch we decided to go to have a look at Maidstone, via Sutton Valence, an English Heritage castle close by.
It took some time to find, even when we eventually got within sight of it – we drove past it twice…
This is a ruin that is free for everyone to visit but is maintained by English Heritage. There are a couple of information boards giving you some of the history of the site.
We then headed into Maidstone where there are a couple of lovely historical buildings, but, unfortunately, the charm wears thin fairly quickly… To be honest, unless you have a reason to be there, I wouldn’t bother.
On the way back to the van we decided to try to visit a National Trust property, Stoneacre (literally a stone’s throw from the Bearstead Club Site, albeit down very, very narrow lanes..). We really must do our research – it’s only actually open on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays. (This is becoming another habit!) Anyway it looked rather lovely and is probably well worth a visit 🙂
Our next move was yesterday to Herne Bay – I’ll be writing about this in a separate post! See you soon x
Back in the UK – home and then a return to Kent. I was really surprised to feel so at home when we stepped back into the van after flying in from Ibiza.
