One of two pieces made for a Twitter tag where we dressed up our Final Fantasy XIV characters as if they were attending the MetGala, the person who started the event made the theme the sun, moon, and stars. And in a fit of overshooting, I said I'd do all three...I managed only the first two. Perhaps one day, I will do the third.

The Sword: A Desert Bus Saga in Three Parts

A person who makes cool gaming prop items made a Red Mage sword from FFXIV (free trial, up to level 70, including award-winning Heavensward expansion, etc.) and the Bus auctioned it off live (fun fact the winner is the person who gifted me my first twitch sub to LRR exactly 3 years ago this month)

The person makes 2 of the prize every year, a prototype and the actual donation to Desert Bus. This year they sent both because they wanted Jacob (noted FF14 fan and all around cool person) to have it.

There was also a letter for Jacob. Description first this time because the following video contains (vague) talk of someone who was in very poor health and discussion of being in a bad place mentally. Jacob and the rest of Alpha Flight also get very emotional, so if any of that brings you discomfort you are now forewarned and can skip the last part of this tale.

ohhh!! heyyy chipperino been a while :D ty for the ask Hmmm, I guess I'll talk about my FFXIV character cuz some of these are dnd character spoilers for a follower 👀

Its kinda long so...

A bit of context: Kaz is my character in Final Fantasy XIV, Miqo'te are FFXIV cat-people, split into Sun and Moon tribes. Kaz is a Moon catboy, saviour of the world, praised by (mostly) all because FFXIV story makes you overpowered af and its great.

1. How does your OC feel about their full name? His name is Kazdr'a Tayuun, a fairly standard name for his clan, he has no particular attachments to it, it's just his given name. Most people just call him Kaz

3. How does their social personality differ from how they act when they’re alone? Depends on the company, if its with world leaders and stuff he does do his best to sit upright and look proper and polite and serious, all of which he is definitely good at /s. With friends hes more mischevious and smug about causing problems on purpose if hes in the mood for it. Alone hes rather quiet and contemplative, enjoying the silence.

5. Do they have a “tell” for when they’re lying? Oh his expression and tail swooshes give all of his emotions away, he doesnt even try to hide it. He rarely lies, he doesnt often have reason to, but his ears and tail would probably twitch or droop when lying.

7. What is their hair texture like? Soft like cat fur when it isnt caked in blood or just a mess from being out adventuring for a couple weeks.

9. Do they have a word or phrase that they tend to overuse? Not particularly, he doesnt speak often, hes generally a pretty quiet guy.

10. What is a weird quality that they have (ie their hands are always cold, they’re always hungry, they snort when they laugh, etc)? Hmmm. He is strangely pale. I've dabbled in the idea of him being undead, having died in the 7th Umbral Calamity but coming back somehow. Kaz wouldnt be aware of it though.

15. Are their greatest flaw and their greatest strength related and in what way? (ie very caring and helpful but a doormat, or very observant and shrewd but often paranoid) His greatest strength is his combat prowess, undefeated in any battle (so far). His greatest weakness? Probably his love of combat, it'll get him killed someday for sure. His other weakness is literature, he cant read, but thats not related in any way to being really good at stabbing things.

16. How has their childhood affected the way they view an aspect of their life (people, education, society, themselves, etc)? Moon Miqo'te are a tribe of hunters so he grew up learning how to hunt and kill which definitely influenced his goals of just finding tougher more interesting prey. Thankfully the whole misandrist society didnt affect him at all, totally blind to this whole gender thing, what's a gender and can I kill it?

As an aside, if anyone ever wants to try out critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which by the way, has a free trial up to level 60 with unlimited playtime and includes the entirety of the award-winning expansion Heavensward…I can send you an invitation to the game.

The catch is that I can only send one invite every 3 hours and also the Data Center that I am usually on, Crystal, is FULL. No more room. All worlds congested. Can’t make a new character there.

However, there IS travel available between Data Centers (though only if they’re on the same continent; European folks can’t go to American servers and vice versa, etc.) My main is Digi Isshu but I have been considering transferring Q’essyn to the new Dynamis DC. has played world of warcraft, league of legends, mobile legends, brawl stars, you name it, he’s tried it. 

he prefers open world gaming, so FFXIV caught his interest. he tried guild wars 2, but FFXIV have vieras, so it really wasn’t a competition.

prefers wandering around the open world and grinding rather than engaging in PVP. still ranked in top 10 server wide PVP though, because people like to challenge him to fights.

definitely plays genshin impact. 100% a p2p player. he has c6 childe.

he plays dating sims. 

no, really, it’s research to him. he has 100% played mystic messenger and failed the first time he played because he was so busy he couldn’t tap in to any chatrooms at the correct time and ended up using a walkthrough as well as whaling in order to get all endings for all characters.

tried playing love nikki, but he realised he was more into the dating aspect rather than the dress up, so he stopped.

also likes raising sims, like a3! 

has spent over 1000 usd on whaling, but he enjoys it. 

gets weirdly competitive over ranking. once he had to go to a meeting and he asked celestine to help him rank while he was occupied because it was the last hour to get some grinding in. celestine was very confused as to the shirtless men on artem’s phone, but helped him finish in third place nevertheless. 

tried genshin impact, stopped after the first day and it’s just sitting in a folder in his phone now.

he enjoys the mindless games that you can sink hours into without realising. he just uses them to pass the time, but gets over excited when he passes a really difficult level.

has tried those escape room games, mystery hunt games etc, but he always complains that they’re too easy. he speeds through the levels so quickly that he runs out of health and has to wait for ages for it to regenerate so he can keep playing.

he’s impatient, so he’ll have deleted the app by then and downloaded another similar one.

he also likes indie rpgs, like Ib or Witch’s House.

plays genshin impact, but f2p.

definitely has chess on his phone. he likes playing chess against the highest difficulty AI and has tried multiple different chess apps to determine which AI is the hardest. 

he tried playing cookie run once, because someone told him it was low effort (no ranking), single player, and needed good reflexes. he wanted to see if it was worth the hype, then realised you had to draw for cookies, and decided he wasn’t about to spend money pulling for cookies.

he could buy cookies in real life. he enjoyed it for a day, then deleted the app.

artem introduced him to love nikki, and he very much enjoys the dress up aspect. he’s on the worldwide top 10 ranking list. 

plays sudoku, but only when he has no other alternative. sudoku bores him easily.

never tried genshin impact.

Actually have an idea to start a new character in FFXIV and invite as many people as I can (and them to invite etc) so we can all play together. Just good times, good vibes, and helping each other out. No rushing or pushing, no aggravation when shit doesn’t go right, we just give tips and assist where we can. Not many people wanna play with me, though, which sucks! But that’s okay, cause I don’t like forcing people to play games with me. I just wanna have a chill time with people.

(toasty from blooming panic would bee proud of me for this 😔) OKAY JOKING ASIDE lol: Honestly, I don't know of any games that are exactly like rune factory but with no farming. Rune Factory was originally described as a fantasy Harvest Moon when it first came out, and farming is a HUGE aspect of both Harvest Moon(technically now Story of Seasons) and Rune Factory. That said, you can play the games without doing a lot of farming, if barely any, it's just gonna bee a little harder imo cus it's tied into a lot of stuff like cooking, making money, etc. And is also probably the easiest/biggest way to make money. I would recommend looking into the persona series. While both game series are very different, their games each have a storyline, fighting, and you get to form friendships/relationships with various characters. There really aren't that many other games that I personally know of but I'd recommend looking into: The Sims, The Tales of Series, and if you like alchemy then The Atelier series maybe. I have one more game, but it's old and you'd need either a ps1, a psp, or an emulator, but Star Ocean: The Second Story actually has a relationship mechanic and during random points in the game, you can interact with different members of your party and either grow your relationship with that party member OR make it worse lol. And this affects the ending of the game! According to the wiki there are either 86 or 87 different endings! (Also my avatar pic is Rena from that same game!) I hope this helps a bit!! <3

The restrictions on the free trial are:

No Market Board

No DMs to other players

No joining Free Companies (player run guilds)

No player trading

No *starting* parties

Buuut you can join Linkshells (chat channels) and join parties other players have started and use the Duty Finder, etc. Many people have noted that it is a single-player RPG with an MMO experience.

As a friend who started recently said, 'I was not expecting a Sociology 400-level course in my MMO,' regarding some of the political points in the storyline.

The subscription is pretty standard ($12.99/mo) but I've been playing for 5 years and have yet to run out of things to do, and you can often find the time cards on sale.

Currently the game is on deep discount as there's a new expansion coming next month.

(Btw, first off, all numbered Final Fantasy games are standalone universes that only share some thematic similarities or name allusions). XIV’s first version was so bad that they made the remake also in-universe event lore. 1.0 gone

2.0 aka A Realm Reborn is 2.0 ARR- 5 years later (they worked on making 1.0 playable-ish and the new game in 18 months) ARR is rushed and has to be a new entry and also sequel, so it shows

But the worldbuilding is really good and the writing gets better exponentially (for the most part) and it was made to be a game for people that never played any mmo and also a game where you could unsub and then months or years later catch up with minimal gear grind effort. And everything defaults to sync level so almost all content stays relevant                            

Oh, interesting! I didn’t know any of that. Well, it sounds cool. What’s the subscription like? One of the reasons I’ve always loved the GW games (despite their flaws) is that there’s no subscription—e.g., I paid $50 for GW1 in 2005 and it hasn’t cost me anything since.
