2019 fic retrospective

here we are again. sort of a weird one this time! 10 completed fics, one of which is a podfic, and the start of an oc project (which isn’t relevant to this list lol). all told, somewhere around 30k and 7 minutes of completed fic, which is a bit less than last year but it also doesn’t include. oc project since that’s not done.

I think this is the last time I’m gonna really try hard to post a fic on fic anniversary lol. the big one-zero! ten whole years of posting fic to the internet. wild. anyway I got both chip and air to help me out, and it’s the only time I’ve used the APA style guide I had to get for a class. I looked at real published medical reports for this. so much effort went into it. and you know what. it’s completely justified because apparently a real med student told a pal of mine that yeah it read p legit. chip had to walk me through epigenetics for this

I wasn’t actually planning on writing a valentines day fic but the timing just randomly worked out. and while writing this I’m pretty sure I was thinking okay no subtext. actually say they’re girlfriends in love. You Gotta. thanks dancing star night for the inspo. I think I just gave up on the title

meandering to distraction, Persona 5, 800 words

Yusuke talks about when he started liking Ryuji (in the boyfriend way).

I forgot why I wrote this??? looking through my notes I found a draft that was last edited 2/9 at 2am. Did I just want to write yusuke? Apparently I cut a scene that has like, a couple sentences written about ryuji getting Self-Conscious when yusuke did the art pose on him during beach trip. I definitely remember going out of my way to make sure the wordcount for this and the annshiho fic was the same

God. What a joke. Writing dream team, though! and honestly, to be utterly conceited, a fantastic premise. this is set as 8k but technically I only wrote 3k of it? w/e. if I remember right this was long enough after the messy divorce I had with source material that I was able to look on this fondly and rope air and sine into finishing up what we had. I really missed lance.... thanks guys... thank you... thanks....

the future looks bright (let's hit the kill switch), Overwatch, 4.7k words

“What do you know about Vishkar,” Symmetra demands.

“I’m a little busy here, I don’t exactly have a slideshow on-hand for you—”

“But you have proof of their plans?”

Sombra scoffs. What kind of question is that? A bad one. She’s got terabytes of dirt on her right now, not including stuff she’s stashed in some contingency bunkers scattered around the world. But, as insulting as it is, being so severely underestimated works out pretty well. “If it’s proof you want, that’s easy. You can see it for yourself... if you get me to the top floor.”

Sombra waits for the inevitable explosion from Vishkar’s number one fan, but weirdly enough, Symmetra actually hesitates. “Then,” she says, “you will show it to me.”

Oh my god. I remember LEAPING out bed several times between 12am and 4 am to outline this fic. it’s so good. It’s been vaguely in my head since 2017 and I’ve finally gotten it out. this fic will never get the recognition it deserves but at least *I* know it’s a masterpiece. this is absolutely my fic of the year. god someone please appreciate my symbra fic

a beef bowl's worth a thousand words (or something like that), Persona 5, 1k words

Yusuke makes a beef bowl.

Written because of the teamup attack.. foxskull real. also this didn’t hit until just now while I’m typing this but what’s an expression of love stronger than making food? nothing. I really wanted to capture the vibe of yusuke going at his own pace and ryuji just going with it without really getting the full picture... a comfy kinda vibe. or like. a ‘whatever’ kind of vibe but not in a negative way.

this started because I asked of any friends had requests for a p5 chat and a pal was like hey what if we do a collab and we both proceeded to go fuckin nuts. It was really fun! There were a lot of collabs this year huh? just goes to show. make friends and have fun with them.

Someday, Asahi will move on. Until then...

First time doing a fic exchange! Which was a little nerve-wracking but thankfully I had an Ultra Expert who let me bounce off some ideas. I had to rewatch a scene of r/b and it made me cry. glad to have the opportunity to be the only asaki fic in the tag

Instead of persona awakenings, shadow confrontations for the P5 crew.

yo I don’t even know what to say about this I’ve had the idea for so long and it took so long to write and I got so many pals to look over it. oh! also I guess this could count as a collab because a pal just randomly started drawing art for every chapter????? except for the yusuke chapter because I wrote a tweet about a concept and my pal drew something in response and I used that art as inspo for the actual chapter. it was very flattering!!! super exciting. I love being spoiled.
