I may... be having a late night brainrot over this fanart still and wondering if Vedrfolnir didn't necessarily want to antagonize Dain, that he's been doing these things with the mindset that he could do something to make better the whole situation™ with Teyvat and, because he knows Dain, that he would be able to stop him eventually. Something like Jecht and Tidus from FFX which is... something I can definitely see. Because even from the hatred he seems to have for his older brother + the other 4 sinners, even if he's being an Abyss Order terrorist, even within that hatred he continues having some manner of kindness. If anything, because he could easily take it on Lumine until he makes Vedrfolnir come out to enact his vengeance, as it's confirmed that he can defeat her. But he doesn't, and I believe that speaks many volumes about him.
