I'd love to play the prince of an underwater tribe coming of age and being given the customary present of his kind – a harem all to himself! I have two of my ocs in mind for this, one rather cocky and definitely eager to get some action, the other one rather sweet and shy with a suppressed dominant streak!

For the first oc, I think the best fit would be an equally sassy guy chosen to be in his harem and either a) being super comfortable with that and treating it like it's his due, enjoying the amenities and all, or b) hating their new position and doing everything they can to rebel. Either way, he quickly becomes the prince's favorite and all other harem members are disbanded or ignored!

The second oc would probably get on better with a more soft-spoken partner, maybe a childhood friend or longtime bodyguard/advisor who was surprisingly chosen for the harem? Someone who knows the prince well and tries to reassure him when he gets anxious about the entire thing. Maybe there's even a bit of a surprise once the prince gets comfortable and shows his true dominant colors!

I'd love for there to be eventual romance either way, but I am willing to include aaaaaall the kinks we can think of, too! (My limits are. Very limited themselves.) So, depraved people cometh forth! We can discuss anatomy and all that, but I'd really love for there to be oviposition, feral behaviour, possessiveness, the works! We can even slap some omegaverse in there if you want to!

5.   YOUR FAVORITE ORIGINAL VERSE OC (OR ONE OF YOUR FAVORITES) : ok she really might not count towards this because of being from a disney / marvel / next gen type group ( depends on your definition of original verse honestly, but since they were super au and set in a made up universe that i fleshed out i feel like all the characters there DO count ) but my number one forever is going to be rylie natalia barton. i've written her on and off since 2014 and she was originally a willa holland fc, though i recasted her for recent musings with my friend as diana silvers, because i think she's a great cast for a 'modern' rylie of a similar age to when i first wrote her. she's the daughter of clint barton & bobbi morse ( & step daughter of natasha romanoff ) and kicked off my whole barton cinematic universe that now includes uncle barney and his only kid, monica barton, and natasha's legal ward, ziva mizrahi. i just ... love her. this is her pin board & three songs from her inspo playlist that i think get her vibe are miss america by james blunt, tightrope by lp and hymn by kesha. she went through a LOT during her original run and was the character i did a three irl year alcoholism arc on that i am still like ... a little proud of, weird as that is to even say, because i feel like i wrote it well, and i just think that her character arc was one of the best things i ever did, tbh. she's always been the character i understood best and for a long time understanding her best and loving her most meant that i was going to give her a gruesome, too soon death, but as i've grown up and gotten myself into a better place and went on my OWN journey, she's now this character that i just want the absolute best for all of the time, even if she can only get to the best through a little more trouble. rylie is inspiration for a lot of characters i have written, but i've never been able to recreate her exactly, nor would i want to. she will always have a lil part of my heart and nobody else can ever take it<3

27. You now have the ability to add in one character and one dungeon from any Final Fantasy title prior to XIV, who/what do you pick and why?

I get that if it was gonna happen it would have been during Stormblood but this game is in desperate need of an ex-imperial general who was genetically engineered and experimented upon so that she could perform magic and then subsequently defected and fell in love with a thief treasure hunter with the resistance is all I’m fucking saying.

As for dungeons I am still kinda salty that in an expansion rife with FFIV love that featured 2 of the iconic dungeons from that game (albeit one of those was really in name only *side eyes Tower of Babil not using The Music*), the Giant of Babil was nowhere to be seen--that’s still one of the iconic sequences in the franchise, certainly in the SNES era. but I comfort myself with how at least it looks like we’re getting Theo & Co for the trial storyline this time around.

the Via Purifico from FFX is an honorable mention though, it’s such an underrated dungeon imo and I actually brought it into my personal worldbuilding in Giseleverse as being the secret dungeon beneath the Vault that people get disappeared to. It’s actually where Aymeric was imprisoned after confronting Thordan during 3.0 MSQ and it’s going to figure into that post-Dragonsong Law & Order: Special Heretics Unit fic with Ysayle that’s on my long list of things I wanna write (the Inquisition finds out she’s alive and being sheltered by Aymeric and puts her on trial for her crimes).

30. What do you hope for in the next expansion?

That Gridania actually gets some plot focus, hopefully being forced to reckon with its many, many issues the way Limsa, Ul’dah, and Ishgard have. I mean my Elezen is a Wildwood who only got that way after being reborn from another shard and I started in Ul’dah so I literally have no dog in this fight but it really feels like the Elementals clashing with the revamped cosmology for ARR resulted in Gridania basically getting put on a bus, and I don’t think it helps at all that the Scions who had it as their territory got virtually no screen time after the ARR story branches converge, then we lost them both.

The Tank role quests helped give Kan-E some much needed fleshing out but it’s wild to me how this major city-state gets so little attention. I shouldn’t feel like I chose “correctly” as an Ul’dah player. And the little I did see of that place on class quests made me feel like the place is long overdue for a reckoning the way Merlwyb finally got called to account for the tribal issues Limsa got at the end of the ShB patches. That society is actually so fucked up once you look past the pretty trees

Also like...as a severe understatement I have a lot more faith in Yoshi-P, Ishikawa et al than Blizzard but previous experience makes me Wary when MMOs wrap up major, years-long storylines and start having to come up with new plots. I don’t want to see this game take a nosedive the way WoW did when they ran out of WC RTS plots to followup on post-Wrath of the Lich King. I also hope the next expansion sticks the landing because I have the unpopular opinion that EW peaked with Elpis and never really recovered (UT was just...not good)

        * just a note, considering the rpc's general demeanor towards atla muses. i've watched atla since the characters were older than me and i've grown with them over the years. i've written azula on and off since 2013, and prefer to focus on her post - show trajectory. she's 21 by default in most verses, and can be written in her 80s for lok blogs. sexual topics may occur in discussions regarding her sexuality and relationships, and i'd really like for people to not be weird about this. it's normal. it's not sexualization. however, smutting will not occur on this blog and will opt for fade - to - black in the unlikely event should threads even lead in that direction.

Let's talk about that new character of mine xD

Fakhri started as a joke. I didn't have plans to make a male Viera at all. Then I said, jokingly, if I make one he'll be old and done with life, he's done with people's shit, but also he discovered humanities vices and he indulge waaaayy too much. He sees the bottom of a bottle most of the time, he's a chain smoker, he lives on the street. Then everyone in my FC was like  DO IT! so I took on the challenge lol I've spent at least a month fleshing out this character as I went through the MSQ at record speed with him and lv a few jobs (and hunt for glamour, the true endgame). And while I haven't roleplayed with him yet, he's already a walking meme. So much silly things have happened on the side with my FC and this future Viera it's hilarious.

For instance how it became canon that he sells rats: I bought a bunch at the npc vendor one day, saw people sold them for 40k + on MB while they cost 2400 gils from the npc (granted it's locked behind e Fates). so I tried to make the MB price go down, placing rats 10 at a time on there. I jokingly told my FC that Fakhri hunted rats in the garbage and sold them. One FC members wanted to troll our FC leader a bit so he bought all my rats and all the rats on the MB - over 60 of them!! and placed them in the FC bank. He then later on gave them to me thus I sold soooo many rats at 10k that it paid for 2 full sets of Exarchic gear lol so now it's canon, Fakhri sells rats. Another silly thing, since Fakhri is basically an alcoholic, I named his pets based on their color and alcohol. Thus his rat is named Arak (“A colorless and milky, licorice-flavored drink considered a specialty of the Gyr Abanian region.” This alcohol exist also irl Arak or araq (Arabic: ﻋﺮﻕ‎) is a Levantine translucent, unsweetened distilled spirit in the anise drinks family.) His pet weasel is named Barley and his chocobo, which is dyed orange, Whisky. It also has the Bozjan barding that has two oversized flasks attached to the saddle.

But, like any of my characters, they have deeper meaning or a story to tell. Nothing is what it seems. They have their own demons, they are the way they are for a reason. I also love symbolism and all that. So when came the time to choose a voice claim for him, I went the deep and gravely voice (also because he's a chain smoker) and tried to find a few singers that could fit the bill. Obviously I always check in what I already listen to so I went with Matthias Braun from Surrender the Crown BUT, as I searched further and Spotify wanting to be helpful and suggest artists, I found about Nathan Wagner. And I fell in love. Especially the song linked in this post, which describe Fakhri sooooo very much. So yes, spoiler, it's the root of his problems. It's why he sleeps in the gutters, why he drinks and smoke to numb his senses. Because above the chain smoker, the alcoholic, the drug addict and the con artist, Fakhri has a gift of prescience that's very real and very invasive. And he just feels too much for one person to bear. But enough rambling for one day lol

7.  Bio RPs, Skeleton RPs, or Appless RPs?

Bio or skeleton, depending on the genre.  I’m not great at creating ocs most of the time, so I tend to prefer pre-written bios for those, but I also love taking a skeleton and turning them into a fully fleshed-out character from there, and for literature based roleplays, I like to be able to write my own bio so that it’s entirely my interpretation of the character, as opposed to my interpretation of the admin’s interpretation, if that makes sense?

17. Name an FC you wish people used more

I’ve always loved Angel Coulby, and I feel like I never really see her?  Also Greta Onieogou, who I use for Guinevere, is possibly the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen, and I had literally never seen or heard of her until I started using her, despite the fact that she has plenty of resources, so I think more people should definitely start using her.  And I want to see more of John Cho in everything, including the rpc.

23. Has an FC ever been “ruined” for you because of another player?

None that I can think of?  Nothing bad enough to turn me off of any particular fc completely, at least, but I also forget what fc people used half the time, so my experiences usually aren’t tied to the fc anyway.

24. Have you ever met someone IRL from RPing?

Nope!  I’m kind of awkward with ooc conversation, so I usually don’t get close enough to people to meet them irl, unfortunately.

Bleeding through the seams and weaving them back together

I find myself at a loss when I read rules about strict separation between out-of-character (OOC) and in-character (IC) matters in roleplaying communities. The oft used metaphor is bleeding, when the emotional affect from storytelling seeps through the seams of OOC life causing a prophesied cataclysm. On one hand, I don't blame people for their anxiety. Discord communities and Free Companies are fragile enough as it is without romantic drama setting flames to a community. I've seen such drama dissolve several thriving and beautiful communities I had once called home. On the other hand, it seems myopic, doesn't it? Like, absolutely clueless to the fact that a person's emotions do not stop at the bright pixels on their computer monitors. We can't fully stand outside of ourselves. We can't be apathetic puppet masters of our characters.

The argument is often told like this: "We are just here to tell stories in a fantasy world, what your character does and feels stays with your character. Do not mistaken a story for real life". It's told as if the digital world in-and-of-itself is somehow unreal. Well, my dear, behind every story is a human being defined by their emotions and writing their hearts and souls into their characters. No matter how we parse it out, make believe is still believable because there is a very fuzzy line between real and pretend.

I want to make this *abundantly* clear: I understand the premise behind these rules. There are some, including my little sprout ass, who can become way to emotionally invested in another person's character. Without taking precautions, people can mistaken these emotions shared between characters as somehow IRL. And when rejected outside of a scene, it can be a painful (and worse, dramatic)  experience.

This isn't to say that all bleeding is bad: a make believe story can quickly become a strange (and oft-times wonderful) OOC relationship.  I've been in a few of these. They've never lasted, but I cherished every moment of them. Except for the ones that became abusive. A topic for another post.

The problem is that when expectations and boundaries aren't clearly communicated, someone can fall in love. And if that isn't reciprocated, hearts get broken and tensions boil over.  And that's where my problem lies, if we pretend that our emotional affect in IC relationships are nothing but the whimsy of storytelling and fiction, we can easily ignore important conversations on the ethics of love and intimacy. An abusive partner can brush away accountability with the excuse of *it's just a game dude, get over it*. Ignoring how our affect bleeds from storytelling too OOC can actually be a machinery of drama itself, rendering rules against bleeding counterproductive. The very fact that we need to talk about bleeding in the first place is a testament to it's existence.

I've spoken with friends who's hearts were shattered when an rp relationship ended. They were thrown sideways with pain and anguish. They cried, they were lonely, they felt empty. These emotions are real. I experienced some pretty intense emotions from rp relationships myself. I was shattered; I shed no shortage of tears.

I think a more nuanced view is in order. If technology is an extension of our sense of self and identity, does that mean our tether to our internet lives are no different from our flesh bag lives? Instead of acting in definitives when we talk about bleeding, we should be actually talking about consent and communication. Instead of believing that make believe isn't real, we should urge caution around making assumptions instead of pretending it doesn't exist.

Take for example a rule of thumb I wrote for an FC I help administrate:

"Blurring the lines between in-character and out-of-character is only acceptable if you have prior consent from all the people involved. Leave your tensions and dramas at the Lament’s door. Sometimes characters have IC issues between them. Yes, that cute Miqo'te might sneer at your character whenever you enter a room. Don’t take it personally. That said, if you’re having problems, chat with an admin. We want everyone to feel safe and happy. Treat your FC members with respect. If you need some extra help, hit up our conflict mediation suggestions."

Establishing Free Company and Discord rules that allow for elasticity between the shared emotions and intimacy role-players might pen into their stories creates a refusal to ignore the real-ness of our interpersonal emotions. Instead of playing ignorant, we can pop some mitigation on those potential dramatic moments by offering conflict mediation and urging healthy practices of consent and communication. If a problem bleeds into OOC, offer a moderation service to help those members work through their issues and find compromise.

When we bleed through the seams as an affectual reflex to the theater of intimacy that leashes our characters to our sense of self, the outcome can magical. Sometimes bleeding through the seems can strengthen and revitalize the weaves that bind our characters together. And sometimes bleeding through the seams can weaken and tear the weaves that hold those fabrics together. But if we who build communities and foster a sense of belongingness in our fantasy worlds provide avenues for conflict mediation, we can help stitch those fabrics back together. But first we need to acknowledge the root of that problem.

This is how we do better. This is how we build communities and families that make FFXIV (or other MMORPGs) that are safe, stable, and full to the brim with shared intimacy.

Alright guys, it’s time.

I’ve been away for a couple weeks while I was sorting out some irl stuff, and now that I’ve had the time to really step back from things and look at it all with a more logical point of view, I think I’ve been able to come to a decision about my future in FFXIV right now, and the future of this blog.

Unfortunately, Avidia’s going to be going away for a while, that much is certain. Right now my plan is to have her return by 5.0. I will be writing up a short for people who are involved in her personal story, and who she is also involved with, in order to wrap things up. But for now she is going away. I’m also stepping out of the plot with the Faceless. While They’re awesome, and I think it’s a really cool event, I don’t have the time or the attention span to be able to handle all of that right now, so I don’t anticipate jumping back into it.

I’m not stepping away from RP however. I plan on returning to it soon, especially since I just quit my old job, and will have a lot more free-time now, especially in the evenings. I have a new character who I will be introducing soon, right now I’ve just been fleshing her out into a character I wanna play and feel comfortable playing. Sadly, my phone recently bit the dust, and with it went my FFXIV security token, and I don’t have my emergency removal password on me, so I have to wait for support to get back to me before I can make her into a proper character. She will be becoming my main, and she’s also an Imperial (what a surprise, I made another sassy Garlean).

The url of this blog will most likely change, as will the theme and all of that, but it’s still going to be me running it. From time to time I might post Avidia aesthetic pics as they come across my dashboard, but the focus isn’t going to be on Avidia anymore. Sorry if you came here for her, but I hope you guys like this new character just as much as you liked her.

Thank you for having patience with me through all of this. I’m looking forward to being able to hopping back into things with everyone! I’m probably gonna be looking for a new FC, so if anyone has any recommendations for a good FC, especially ones that accept Imperials, hit me up!
