(I'm bouta ramble so bear with me here) I've noticed something when it comes to BNHA. I like to call it "Character Choices VS. Author's values." (This is the best name I could come up for it) Lemme explain. I'll use Aizawa as an example. Grouchy, tired, the sleeping bag? Those are deliberate character choices Hori made for Aizawa. That is the kind of character Hori is going with. Ignoring the fact that Bakugo broke the rules for the battle trial? Barely caring about him attacking Mido? (1/?)
rest of asks under readmore, tldr: more plot driven characters than character driven plot, and the effects of that
Those are there because Hori doesn't see Bakugo's bullying as big of an issue as it actually is. The reason Recovery Girl blames both Bakugo AND Midoriya for having problems working together in the final exams is because Hori believes that that is the actual issue between them, and that is the narrative he wants to push for them. Also Bakugo is clearly the creator's pet so of course he's going to be treated well by the other characters. Like how UA is an absolute Hell School, that's not (2/?)An intentional move on Hori's part. It's clear that he intended for UA to be this amazing school that's lots of fun with all these cool events, but because he doesn't know anything about how a school works, he accidentally made it into one of the worst schools I've seen. It's obvious he didn't intend for UA to be awful because if it was, then there would be a plot point exploring that and purposefully showing the flaws in the school. Recovery Girl refusing to heal Midoriya was meant to be (3/?) A way to give Midoriya some stakes when it came to figuring out his quirk (AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF THAT: Hori probably didn't have any of the teachers help Midoriya with his quirk because he wanted to keep the """epic""" bone-breaking and screw Mido over a little bit more) but he didn't think about the moral and legal implications of that and what that did to Recovery Girl's character. Similar with Nighteye, Hori did that because he wanted to give Midoriya a challenge, but didn't (4/?)Think about what kind of character that would make Nighteye out to be. He accidentally makes some characters out to be absolute Jerkasses because he wants to push a certain narrative, especially in the case of Mido and Bakugo. This also explains Endeavor. BNHA is a fun manga to read, but you should drop any expectations that characters like Baku and Endeavor face consequences. Because they won't. And Hori thinks it's much more fun to punish Mido for trying to fulfill his dream. (5/5)
yeah i'd give these a solid 'mostly agree'
