very specific ideas bouncing around in my brain about jake being a pub guy.
as much as he loves clubs he finds solace in small holes in the walls with the same face behind bar and usual suspects posted around. loves the community and knowing people. direct contrast to the solitude he grew up in.
fame is one thing but he needs connection. going to a place where people know him for his pool prowess rather than his posterior blasted on the telly from 5-9pm daily.
needs a hobby and this is the best thing, allows him to satiate his addiction and desire for social interaction all in one.
there's just something about the game. no need for talking, the proposition of being a challenger demands respect. no need to discuss his life, just needs to hit the ball and watch it sink into the pocket.
there's an anonymity he craves found in the game, in this space. admiration found in skill rather than appearance. it's refreshing, fuelling.
the young guy who will sing along to the sixties shit on the jukebox like they're current. will buy everyone a round just because he can afford it. walks in and everyone nods a head and if feeling talkative will mutter an "alright, mate". the woman behind the bar is greying like his grandma and has his regular on tap and ready as he walks over.
its healing.
