The pixelated robot is the mascot from 16-bit Hero, the arcade that taught Hana how to shoot by visiting it frequently according to an interaccion with Cole, it also resembles a StarCraft character, videogame that gave D.Va her esports victories.

Chapter 4: Unshakeable Weight

His fingers are too short. That will definitely pose a problem further down the line yet Ramattra doesn't make a sound as he watches the girl step back, wiping the sweat from her brow looking quite pleased with herself. For the moment, he'll commend her efforts in trying to repair him, even if she's doing it wrong. He owes her that much at least.

After the events two nights prior, he's in awe on how fast she collected herself, once more throwing her friend out of the room and burying herself in working on him. The human male has since returned a couple of times, with meals for her or to help her with working on him. Lifting and then fitting his arm in place as it was too heavy for her to do alone with her injuries.

Exactly how long did it take for humans to heal their appendages? Even with all the upgrades he had installed upon himself, human anatomy was not one he had prioritized. Ramattra was aware of the basics of course. And he also knew which parts were the most vulnerable and how to strike them quickly enough to not cause lasting pain but a swift death.

At the time, it had seemed like a strange kindness coded into him by Anubis. A painless death. And after seeing how much pain her arm and leg causes the girl, he can understand why the god AI did it.

It still seems to pale in comparison the inner turmoil she's been going through since the day the alarms went off.

Instantly, Hana was awake. She moved past Dae-Hyun and the omnic, towards her mech as if she was on auto pilot before she felt someone grab her around the waist.

Her first instinct was to struggle. She had to get to Tokki, she had to go out there and protect her city, she had t-

"Hana, stop!"

Her hand automatically reached for her hip where her little pistol would usually be, but she grasped nothing. She's unarmed, being held by someone. Don't they hear the alarm? Busan is in danger! South Korea is in danger! She's got to join her team and help! Can't they understand that?!

The hold on her lessened, and she heard a faint apology before she felt her cheeks being pinched. Hard. It hurt so much that she stopped moving and tears started welling up in her eyes.

"Agent Song, callsign D.Va, remember that you are suspended from combat due to your injuries until further notice." She finally realized who is talking to her. Dae-Hyun. Through her tears, she can finally make out his face, looking so serious. There is a hint of sadness there too, but he kept holding her still.

Another moment passed, and he took a step back and finally let her go. "Do you remember now?" Hana looked away, looking guilty before she limped back to her chair and turned her screens back on. A few clicks and MEKA's security feeds were on full display, showing each member's status and their positions. Her fingers tapped on the keyboard, and she brought up a screen from Overlord's perspective.

As their resident support, Seung-hwa usually hung back, constantly checking on his teammates to see who needed the most help at any given moment to send his nano drones to do quick repairs on the squads mechs. Surface area stuff, just enough to keep them in the fight a little longer.

A fight she should be in instead of sitting here like a useless stump. She knows she can't do anything, she understands that. It is still frustrating to see her teammates go out without her to take the stronger hits. Slowly she turned away and looked at Dae-Hyun, her face scrunched up in a pained expression.

"Is this...is this how you felt that day?"

It took Dae-Hyun a second longer to figure out what it is that his friend is asking of him. Biting his lip, he slowly nodded an affirmation. "Yes. I am just your mechanic, but every single time you've gone out there...I feel so helpless. I can provide you with coordinates, tell you the status of Tokki in further detail, but that doesn't guarantee that I will see you again." He failed to mention that he had nearly lost her once, but it is still evident that that is still on his mind.

He turned his attention to the screens, following Overlord's movements as the young pilot zipped around the battlefield. So far they seemed to be doing okay. There seemed to be substantial damage to one of Busan's docks, a small squad of Gwishin squid drones guarding it like a prize.

She didn't say anything more, also watching the rest of her team make quick work of the invaders, until finally there is cheering coming from their comms. Silently, she turned off the feed and worried a fray seam on her chair.

"Do you mind leaving Dae-Hyun? I'd like to be alone for a bit..."

"....of course. Just...text me if you need anything. I'm going to go wait in the hangar to assess damage with the others, okay?"

Okay good. One arm done. She can definitely do this and better still, the omnic had not made a single sound of complaint. Hana took this as a good sign. The fingers looked wrong, but that was the best she could do for him now. Maybe once he was better fixed she could go with him to help him find better parts?

Haha, wouldn't that be a trip and a half. Maybe he'd stay for a while too and help them? Well, she wasn't going to ask him just yet. Not until he was fully fixed.

Mhm. Maybe she'll write that down before she forgets. Now that she thinks about it, Hana doesn't actually want him to leave. She's grown accustomed to this omnic's presence in her workshop. She can already picture him in one of the mechanic uniforms.

A giggle escapes her mouth from the mental image, and then the omnic crackles at her. Questioning her merriment perhaps?

"Nothing, nothing, I was just thinking about something silly, don't worry about it. It had nothing to do with you," she lied very badly. Another noise, as if saying he didn't believe her. "I mean, urgh. I was just wondering what you are going to do after we're done here. Did you have a job?"

Silence.

It was uncomfortable. It actually caused her to sweat a little, so she turned away to hide her embarrassment and decided that it was better to scroll through her phone. A decision she soon came to regret.

"-while it was a victory, the public is still asking, where is D.Va? We know that two months ago she faced off against a Gwishin attack alone and was injured. We talked t-"

"A victory? It seems that way, yes? Still too many people were injured, just what was save-"

"-ictims say that they don't fault MEKA but are seeking answers from the government. How can their safety lay solely on these five youngsters? And while only four were present for the bat-"

It continued on, and with each new article or news piece, Hana grew more and more frustrated until finally she tossed her phone across the room. So what if it breaks? She can replace it at any moment, but those who were injured and lost? If she had just been there!!

Looking down at her casts, she grit her teeth and looked back at the omnic. She wished she knew his name at the very least, and didn't want to risk upsetting him by calling him by anything. If she felt this helpless with broken bones, how must he feel with missing limbs? And the fact that he can barely communicate?

"It's hard, you know?" even though she knows he can't answer her back. "I know that for now the best thing I can do for my team right now is to wait for my arm and leg to heal. It's just they need me to be out there." She gestured to her door and the world that lay beyond it. "If I had been there, maybe those people wouldn't have been hurt so bad. Maybe someone could still be alive. My teammates...they are so very strong without me, but with me, we're even stronger."

How was it that a girl as small as her could feel so guilty over something that was not her fault? He can offer no counsel to her, or anything at the moment for that matter. It would take a little more time to adjust his circuits to flow into his new arm, but he'd rather wait until he's whole to do that.

Her situation could have been avoided if her country wasn't so arrogant in putting their entire Gwishin defense on the shoulders of her and her teammates. He was aware that there were other bases stationed around the coastlines of the country but to his knowledge those weren't as prominently attacked as this one was. At least that's what he had gathered from the conversations between her and her male companion.

To think they spoke so freely about their operations in front of him would be worrying. He can't fault them too much though, they have no idea who he really is anyway. Maybe one day they'll know.

He hears the roar of her welder's torch and he decides that for now, he will bide his time, and wait for his other parts to be complete.

Theorizing about the New Support Characters - Overwatch 2

Alright, so it's been like a month, sorry about that, but school's just been nuts! Anyways, there's some news going around after a Q&A hosted by @ ChristalRaine and @ BroYouWack on twitter with Hero Designer Alec Dawson about new characters.

We can expect to see new and familiar faces as the seasons continue, so I wanted to do a little theorizing about who we might be seeing. We also heard from Jared Neuss that we will be getting two new "cute" support heroes. Now, let's go into some theories! This is the longest post I've written in a bit, so buckle up.

Specific Characters:

Overlord - Member of MEKA Squad: We can guess that he would have a support role, considering he helps repair the Mechs. Based on what I've seen on twitter, he is one of the favorites of the fanbase to be one of the new characters.

2. Casino - Member of MEKA Squad: I would think that he wouldn't have a support role, but I could see him being a future character. While being a member of the MEKA Squad now, he was a F1 racecar driver in the past which could tie into some of the things we see in Circuit Royal.

3. Jetpack Cat - possibly Brigitte's cat. This charcter, who I'm fairly sure we see through one of Brigitte's emote, is definitly a fan-favorite who we know has some type of armor. Since they are associated with Brigitte, it would make sense that they could be a support.

4. Cláudio and Hector Martins - from a portrait in Esperança: If you want to get a really thorough explaination of who these characters are, check out this great video by Master Ian Gamer, but we may get either of these two characters or an assoicate of their's as one of the new characters since they are associated with a new faction in OW2 called The Collective.

5. Iggy - from the London Calling comics: Iggy is an omnic from The Underworld, Kings Row. I've seen a few people say that they want Iggy as one of the new support characters and I can't disagree. I really want some new omnic characters and I think Iggy could definitly be considered cute.

Less Specific Characters:

The Yōkai: This is a group who, along with Kiriko, protect Kanezaka. They all wear masks associated with different yōkai including a kitsune (Kiriko), a tanuki, an amabie, a kappa, a kasa-obake, and an oni.

2. Blackwatch/the Old Guard of Overwatch: Since we will be getting more lore with the release of PvE, whenever that will be, I'm hoping we'll get a character who was part of the original Overwatch. That could be someone like Fio, the Blackwatch pilot from the Venice Incident, or Kimiko who worked in hostage rescue.

3. Talon: A lot of people want to see Mauga or Maximillian as playable characters. While Mauga probably would be better as a tank, I think Maxilmillian could definitely work as a support.

4. Someone Completely New: This has happened a few times with characters like Sigma or Baptiste who we didn't get many hints for. I'd love to see a new omnic character or someone from Midtown, Colosseo, or Cicuit Royal.

And with that, those are some of the more popular/talked about theories I've seen. Personally, I really want Overlord, Casino, or a new omnic character to be added, but I'll be excited just to see who we get. Anyways, sorry it's been so long between posting, this year has just been a lot and I haven't felt the drive to post, but I'll be posting a compliation of my poetry soonish. So, you can be looking out for that and stuff about the new season of the Overwatch League since it'll be starting soon. ~ Nova.

Not sure if ya heard but the new support for next season is suppose to be someone that we already know/ introduced.

They also said the new support hero was "Cute." But knowing Blizzard that makes me suspicious because honestly I don't want them to fall into the Riot games pit where the new hero is just cute girl after cute girl after cute girl. My top "cute" candidates would probably beee...

Lynx Seventeen (Lots of cute ear movements!!--also I just think more omnics in the roster wouldn't hurt in general just because they're such an important part of Overwatch worldbuilding)

Dae-hyun (I just really like the idea of a 'reverse Sombra' Support hero)

Iggy (Both of our female robot characters aren't technically "omnic" and it could be interesting having an omnic character from London)

Overlord (Idk I always had support vibes from him in all the Meka content)

...if it wasn't for the "We've already met them" factor I would suspect that the new hero might be a "mascot" type like Winston or Wrecking Ball, mostly because the supports don't really have any "Wacky" designs--I mean they're unique, certainly, but you don't see a Winston or a Junkrat type backstory in the group. There's definitely a bit more drama with the Support heroes.

Lore post ! I don’t know where else to put this but did you know that the Korean translation of Hana’s Academy cosmetic lore implies she actually won the world championship with D.Mon and King (presumably in a World Cup for team Korea; the latter was still her archrival likely on another team)? I’ve always assumed she beat out Kyung-soo, but the wording is so fundamentally different in Korean—in English, note that it says she surpassed both of these people to win (though we knew she was on the same team as Yuna). Below is a translation of the Korean version:

My partner is big into esports (and also just the best gamer I know LOL) and said that this actually makes the art from shooting star of D.Va kissing the trophy alone make more sense because it was likely an MVP award, which goes to just one person in a competition. So, yes her stats and prestige likely outranked King and D.Mon (surpassed them, if you will) but they played together? And during the regular season were probably on separate teams hence the “arch rivalry”.

And all of this is supported by her canon Taegeukgi skin, which states explicitly that she represented Korea worldwide! And Michael Chu saying (his words) that her and King were “neck-in-neck” rivals makes sense when you consider they likely won the same worldwide titles together on the Korean team.

I think it’s crazy how different the wording is between the two translations and that King and D.Va actually have shared history. I’d love to know what that meant for their rivals dynamic and if they were potentially friends before MEKA? Maybe I’ll draw something. Also this basically confirms that neither Overlord nor Casino played the same competitive game (Mecha Guardian V) as the rivals and Yuna. (Jae-eun was likely never a pro gamer guys I’m sorry gamer casino truthers but formula 1 is a full-time gig and since they’re likely around 23-24 it’s improbable that they did both 😭😭) + lots of little hints imply Seunghwa actually played StarCraft! If they played MGV, they would likely have also been mentioned in the lore blurb as they would also have been top Korean players who represented the country.

This is probably a bit silly but I thought somebody else might find it cool maybe? We have such limited explicitly-stated MEKA lore so I like to synthesize 🩵💕 maybe I’ll do it on something else sometime. And if you want me to talk about another MEKA-squad related topic or compile info abt it my ask box is open for others with worms in the brain LOL

Overwatch Recalled: MEKA Squad

A couple weeks ago, I said that I was going to be doing a post about MEKA Squad, so that is this post. This is post is going to be about the known members of the MEKA Squad, I’m not going to be able to go super in depth about each character since we don’t know that much about them, other than D.Va. I am going to go over what we know and in another post I am going to be using some of this information to theorize. 

Captain Myung is the commanding officer of MEKA. Her base of operation is in Busan and when you are on the MEKA Base map in Busan, you can hear her voice in the background sometimes. 

Dae-Hyun Park(박대현) is a mechanic for MEKA, specifically assigned to helping D.Va. Him and Hana were childhood friends. We learn that he acted as a voice of reason to Hana’s reckless nature when they were kids.  I would assume that he was able to get a mechanics position in MEKA thanks to Hana vouching for him. 

Hana Song(송하나) / D.Va is the pilot for the pink Tokki(토끼) mech. She is a former professional Mecha Guardian V player who was the reigning world champion. She was drafted along with other professional gamers because of her elite skills, instincts, and necessary reflexes. 

Yuna Lee(이유나) / D.Mon is the pilot for the red and white Beast mech and leader of the MEKA pilots. She was also a professional Mecha Guardian V player, having played on the same eSports team with D.Va which is why their aliases are similar. D.Mon’s name is also a play on the world demon. 

Kyung-soo Han(한경수) / King is the pilot for the yellow and white Singijeon(신기전) mech. He is also a former professional Mecha Guardian V eSports player. While D.Va and D.Mon played on the same team, King played on a rival team. 

Jae-eun Kwon(권재은) / Casino is the pilot for the black and green La Princesse Sereine mech. Before joining MEKA, unlike the other members, he was a Formula One racecar driver. This could have impacted the design of his mech. Casino’s aliases and mech’s name could be references to Monaco, but that’s a theory for another day... 

Seung-hwa Shi(시승화) / Overlord is the pilot of the gray and blue Mastermind mech. He is the youngest member of the MEKA Squad and a former professional gamer. His mech slightly resembles a VTOL aircraft and his aliases might be a reference to StarCraft which might have been the game he professionally played. 

Anyways, I’m going to make a post about a specific member of MEKA tomorrow, probably. Eventually, I’ll also make a post about Fio, a former Blackwatch pilot that was featured in Retribution.
