the thing about wild and lost is that yes they are the same person but in terms of life experiences they are completely different bc of the whole memory situation.

both of them share that feeling of "im a failure and everyone i love is gone" but while wild remembers the champions, king rhoam, etc, lost remembers everyone. the soldiers, the villagers in pre-calamity hateno, etc. while he may not be able to put a name to every face, he still remembers the faces.

so while both them are dealing with the fact they lost a Lot of their lives pre-calamity only lost is able Full-Scale of everything that's well. lost. that wild just can't due to his amnesia (not to say he doesnt understand at all. its just Different.)

theres also the fact lost is able to remember trauma that has nothing/very little to do with the calamity and the events of that. miphas diary literally tells us its botw canon that wild/lost was an exceptional swordsman at the age of four. then creating a champion tells us he was either twevle or thirteen when he picked up the master sword. and those two facts have been something kholby and i have been discussing a Lot with this au bc of the trauma that would result in having that responsibility and training pushed on a person so young.

so addition to calamity-induced trauma, lost is also dealing with the trauma from basically being a child soldier. kholby talked about this in a previous ask i believe, but lost's lack of identity is a HUGE part of his character and is what makes him most separate from wild besides the lack of amnesia.

wild was able to wake up after a 100 years and slowly remember his past while also figuring out his identity in this new era and lost just. didn't. he's still the hero from 100 years ago, he didn't change. all that changed about him was that he has a new set of trauma sitting on top of his already existing trauma.

like lost's lack of identity is a topic that needs like. multiple posts from me and kholby. its SUCH a big part of who he is and i cant sum it up in a few paragraphs bc theres just. So Much to cover (but i can sum it up pretty alright in a fanfic hahahaha shameless plug link here)

and thats not even getting into the totk swap aspect of this au bc uh. thats ANOTHER part where lost and wild diverge and it has Consequences for lost is the best way i can put it. like. 90% of lost's Positive character development happens post-totk for a reason. its just that pre-totk lost also has a lot of shit to work through that can also be explored.

anyways theres. so much more to talk abt with lost and wild and the differences and similarities between them but tldr: wild and lost are a "the grass is greener from the other side" situation but from lost's pov the grass is Indeed greener but from wild's pov the grass is on fire. trauma twins my beloved.

im gonna be so fr the trauma twins (lost and wild) are complete opposites even though they stem from the same thing so the number of things that apply to both is surprisingly low!! 1. neither are particularly gender conforming (just wild is a lot more aware of it than lost. lost'll figure it out eventually though) 2. mommas boys through and through. malon, sonia, their actual mother, all of the above 3. they are like a soup of various magic (though the intensity n shit varies between them) even though theyre technically the same person they couldnt be more different

You mentioned disliking the Clovis arc before. I agree completely, but can I ask why you had an issue with it?

well I haven't seen it in a while but mostly because it's. bad? like most of tcw is a bit all over the place and pointless, but some arcs stand out for not only being pointless but actually detrimental to canon. like i love ahsoka but tcw is a fucking terrible show, with brief moments of genius burried under an entire swamp of filler. and i can excuse that, the hideous style, the horrible unimaginative costumes, the shallow overarching plot and happily watch it as a mediocre kids show to get more ahsoka, ugly padme and ooc anakin, but even i have my limits.

So like i've talked before about how i hate tcw changing anakin's characterization to be more of a typical macho action sci-fi/fantasy rugged hero, most likely as a direct cowardly fan service response to the reaction to anakin in the prequels. (I have to add that part of that is again, kids show, everyone is speaking in cool one liners, overpowered, and doing stuff meant to make every 8 year old boy watching piss himself in glee and demand a toy lightsaber. But there are kids shows with fucking amazing stories. atla is imo one of the best written stories on tv period, not just in terms of cartoons. tcw is.... not that). and the clovis arc is basically the nail of the cofin of both anakin's and padme's characters.

with my friends we used to say the tcw made padme into The Woman and she really is nothing else here. In tpm and aotc padme is rushing into danger with a blaster. she's shown to be more competent than the jedi at times, including when it comes to combat, and even though it's usually played for a joke, its still an integral part of who she is. she will get out of a situation if she needs to. she's 3 steps ahead politically and physically. She will solve a problem if needs be. in fact, as terrible as the clone wars movie was, one thing it got right, is padme going after a hutt with nothing but a blaster to save anakin. in the show, padme is a damsel in distress, and rarely anything more. even though she sometimes tries to deal with it herself, the narrative keeps putting her into that role, and having anakin (or Ahsoka) rescue her. padme planned and won a battle at 14. she took the lead when they were infiltrating geonosis, and it was her idea in the first place. later she fell out of that ship and immediately took command of the first soldier she could find. she tried to shoot dooku's ship down with a blaster for fucks sake. she's reckless, she's violent, she's smart and strategic, she's in charge.

Anakin knows that, and that's why he loves her. their relationship is actually a really interesting reversal of many typical heterosexual ideas of romance. He's younger, less worldly, more emotional. an awkward teen crushing on someone far out of his league. it's basically self insert one direction fanfic come true for him. Padme's rich and powerful. his love for her is his main drive. and that love always presents in following her lead. fucks sake he flirts with her by saying hey wouldn't it be cool if you were a dictator? you're so smart i think you should rule the galaxy. because i could make that happen if you want.

she tells him no when he kisses her, and he accepts it. he asks again, literally crying, in the fireplace scene, and then accepts her final answer as no and drops it. he's surprised and confused when she kisses him on geonosis. He's not possesive. remember, the possesive love is bad vs compassion unconditional love is good is not jedi dogma, its a pickup line from anakin. but even then, his love for padme is unconditional. he loves her even when she doesnt want him. he loves her even when he doesnt see her for a decade. is it childish, unrealistic, and fucked up in its own way? yes. but its not possesive in the "If i can't have you, no one can" way. its not jealous. in fact, anakin isn't really a jealous person in the prequels. he doesn't have any problems with owen being Shmi's stepson

now, the problem is, none of that is half as clear in the actual source material. star wars is a mess, with massive tone problems. like to get any of these you have to fight the irresistible cringe and power through i like sand, through jar jar, through so much bullshit, but it is there. and boy are those tone problems glaring in tcw. star wars deals with some incredibly dark shit. slavery, death, war, grief. and by deals with, i mean doesn't deal with them at all, just brings them up and never really explores them. and tcw could have been the perfect solution to that. they finally had the time to actually explore it. and instead they gave us a 4 fucking episode arc of droids dicking about on a planet with a tiny alien general. 4 fucking episodes. i will never get over that. half a million dollars per episode and they did that with it.

you can make a good kids show that deals with war and death, still has comedic moments for the babies watching, and actually introduces them gently to the topics at hand. again, atla. you have to show the characters being hurt and affected by the tragedy. you have to take a break once in a while and use the filler episodes to let the charaters breathe and process. you can't be so scared of the trauma you've written that your filler just doesn't have the main characters in it at all. what tcw seemingly did is went ok what are the prequels about. war, death, slavery, anakin going bad. ok. now, what do kids like? cool weapons, quips and silly bullshit. tcw actually betrays a really mean approach to it's audience in how bad it is at times. it tries to mascarade its incompetent writing under "its for kids anyway, it doesnt need to be smart".

aaanyway, circling back finally. one thing the prequels did not have, one complicated topic they did not have to introduce if they knew they couldn't write it gracefully, is sexual harrassment. they didn't have to. they chose to include it. it was unnecessary and in poor taste.

in an ideal world, where tcw is good, consistent with padme's and anakin's characterization, and actually deals with the shit it brings up, i can see the basic premise working. a show in which padme doesn't need rescuing in every other episode she's in could have made a point about how uniquely violating sexual harrasment is by making padme freeze up and need help. it could have made anakin give into his darker instincts and beat a sleazebag half to death. but then it made him actually evil and working with dooku, so he deserved it anyway its fine. and then at the end he dies so padme and anakin can be happy together and its never fucking adressed again that she broke up with anakin. because surely once the other man is dead The Woman must want to fuck the only other alternative again. its fine.

anakin has loved padme since he was 9. he risked his entire life's work, his dream of being a jedi to marry her. then she breaks up with him. devastating, right? worth exploring, right? ooooh noooo we wrote an emotion, men don't have those except anger, quick, quick, let's cut to 2 episodes of jar jar dicking about in a cult.

it also cheapens a lot of rots imo. It takes away from the confrontation on mustafar if Padme's been afraid of anakin before. it takes away from the earth shattering impact of her finally having to face the consequences of marrying a mass murderer. it also takes away from the absurdity of anakin in the throes of madness and palpatine-induced delusion accusing her of choosing obi wan over him. it takes away from the denial both padme and obi wan were living in to ignore the signs of anakin getting worse as the war goes on, if the signs were that obvious. season 6 does that a lot, by reavealing pretty much every part of the conspiracy and just having them not fucking deal with it, because there's no ahsoka and they ran out of ideas so let's just remind people the plot of rots. it also takes away from itself, if the point its trying to make is anakin is excessively jealous, its a bit fucking stupid to do it with a character who's already put padme's life at risk.

i would have been a lot harsher if you'd asked me a year ago, probably bc i haven't seen it in a while and dont remember how shit it is, but there are things i like about it. anakin's slow descent into darkness, that was done much better with subtle character beats in season 7. padme drinking wine and going to shows (opera? I think) like the clueless aristocrat she is, while people die, that i really wish had been explored more than that hideous scene when she finally remembers her servant is a person with a family. and thats already me being generous because i dont think that was ever intentional.

anyway, tldr. it gratuitously uses sexual harrasment as a plot device without actually exploring it, it shits on padme and anakin's characters and the plot of rots, and it perfectly encapsulates everything bad about tcw.

thankfully tcw has enough blatant inconsistencies with the pt that i can just pick and choose what is canon and what isnt so. clovis arc is but a bad dream jar jar had in that cave next episode.

after binge reading i have come to a new revelation: I’m not a fan of most Xiaoven fanfics

Don’t get me wrong, I love the ship and its one of my favorite to think about.... but most of the fanfiction for the ship just- doesn’t sit right with me for a number of reasons. 

Disclaimer: these are personal opinions from my own taste and are in no way an attack against any authors out there, because frankly fanfic authors are great and not like i could do better lol. As these are personal opinions, I acknowledge here and now that a number of people disagree and that they are under no obligation to change their opinions in any way as it is not and never will be my intention to tell others what they should be thinking That said- read at your own risk if you want- meh, anyway-

time to share some opinions that have been on my mind lately

The biggest reason.... is how they handle Xiao. And I don’t even mean mischaracterization because Xiao is such a complex and yet simultaneously simple character that as long as you’re somewhere in the range of “Xiao vibes” it’s really hard to write him out of character because of his complexities. What I mean is something that i actually completely agree with as being accurate to his character. In nearly every single fanfic I’ve seen, there is some element of idolization that Xiao has for Venti, or for the sake of reference, Barbatos. He tends to think himself beneath Barbatos and/or indebted to him, whether that be because he’s an archon, because he saved him, or simply because of Xiao’s tendency to dehumanize(yes i see the irony in that word usage) himself.  This by itself isn’t an issue but its often how this trait of his is treated.

Imma just list a few ways I’ve seen this be handled within Xiaoven fics. - It isn’t handled, it’s just there and accepted as a part of who he is in the story - It isn’t handled but his trait is treated as source of humor within the story - Venti(and others) roll with it (finding humor in it, just cant change it, encouraging it, making jokes about it, etc.) - Venti takes advantage of it(whether accidentally or purposely) - it’s actually addressed(by Venti or someone else or the narration- can go a number of ways, but just- even a brief reference to the fact that its not a good mindset fits in here) - savior!Venti(Where venti disagrees with it but the way it’s written gives off “god among mortals” vibes- like he’s just being humble and truly is above him in reality) - its the focus of the story  - not directly addressed but shown to be destructive.  - they chose not to not include this in the story’s characterization of Xiao(just saying that this is valid ahead of time) Theres others but i have a lot already.  Note that I tend to read more ‘serious-toned’(idk if that makes sense) fics so that may skew my perception

Now there’s a few that i have issues with on their own- both instances of it not being handled, Venti(and others) rolling with it, Venti takes advantage of it(purposely(and without good intent)), and savior!Venti. Xiao not only has this trait, but he is unfamiliar with what is normal in relationships or emotions as a result of isolation and inexperience. He is also either not aware of or not concerned with what is considered strictly “healthy.” Combining these makes for a rather dangerous combination and just accepting it as “oh he’s just like that, it’s who he is” or making it out to be something funny- It’s not wrong or bad by any means necessarily, and I could still possibly enjoy it to an extent depending on a series of different factors, but its- not as often.  Even in the case where I do enjoy reading it however, I would still feel uncomfortable sharing it with or recommending it to others because in the first instance it feels like normalizing a destructive and dangerous mindset, and in the second case it does the same while simultaneously making a joke of it. It’s the same deal with Venti or other characters rolling with it, but that’s probably gonna be mentioned later too. Not to say that this is a “wrong” way to handle it, that it makes the fic bad, or that authors even are normalizing anything by doing so, just that in my specific instance- not a fan. 

I’ll get to the others when i talk more about Venti, but for now: It’s the focus of the story. I think I saw like... 2? where the story was like- focused on this and why its a problem which- power to them, address those real world problems like a boss- but also i wouldn’t actively seek it out or anything- like, good job, but doing so just leaves it open neutrally for other factors to decide how good a story i think it is. 

not directly addressed but shown to be destructive. You’d think i wouldn’t like this- but frankly in fanfiction not everyone wants to address every character flaw verbally because it can through off story, narration, dialogue, and general flow to do so. This can be with an event, an action, a dialogue, a mere comment, making it actually fit into the it’s actually addressed category except that its- subtle enough to make its own category. plus i live for show not tell- in everything- its a thing. im- very much a fan of when the fics do this but the subtlety is easy to miss and its not common so- 

It’s actually adressed- doesnt have to be a lot- just mention anywhere or imply anywhere that maybe idolizing someone as a god and savior and being in a relationship with them while having little knowledge of standards, emotions, relationships, or healthy behaviors in general- maybe isnt the smartest idea in the word. (”Call me Venti, not Barbatos” by itself is not enough to fit in this category tho as a note)

Now lets talk about Venti...

uh.... those who have followed me for awhile will probably already know this but... I have a lot of opinions on Venti and a pretty- “niche(?)” perception of his characterization that isn’t shared by a lot of others- so I don’t actually read as much Venti fanfic in general as you might expect because I often end up disagreeing with how writers portray him, which again, in no way is their characterization wrong, but- “their perceived truth” conflicts with “my perceived truth” and by extent so does the characterization, though neither is any more correct than the other from an objective point of view, if that makes sense... but anyways now that that’s said, moving on before this becomes a philosophy lecture, as fun as that would be for me.  I’ll try to keep my “perceived truth” out of this for the first bit. 

Venti’s response to this: 

He rolls with it: this depends on the mood of the fanfiction. If they dont put a lot of stress on that trait of Xiao’s it totally fine but if the trait seems to be a major part of Xiao’s character, it seems like normalization once more. (more on this later)

he takes advantage of it purposely: if its an AU or something and Venti’s like a villain(i saw a few) then- villain venti isnt my cup of tea but i have no qualms. If they don’t portray Venti in a negative light while having him take advantage however that’s a bit uncomfortable to read for me because it feels like normalizing taking advantage of that mindset as well as the mindset itself. However, i did see a number of instances of Venti using it as leverage for like- self care- which i definitely have no qualms. Xiao: [insert probably destructive idolizing statement about being indebt] Venti: How bout you pay me back by actually sleeping for once smh or other variations are okay and depending on the vibe are actually a really fun dynamic as long as it doesnt turn into romanticizing or normalizing it, y’know?

Venti accidentally taking advantage of it.... I love angst- and in most of these theres a sense of guilt when he realizes- and i just think thats a lovely way of addressing the dangers of such a mindset for both sides. As long as it doesn’t keep repeating to the point of romanticization its totally cool to read in my eyes(not irl ofc). If Venti never realizes he accidentally took or is taking advantage it feels a bit like normalization, and if he does but just- doesn’t care thats- a rip.

savior!Venti...... i- i hate. the story giving off vibes that Xiao’s mindset is technically correct while Venti oh so humbly tells him to treat him as an equal like the wonderful and charitable person he is.... i just- no. of course thats over dramatizing it- I think the main thing that gives it this vibe is when Venti doesn’t seem either concerned, surprised, uncomfortable, or otherwise have a negative feeling towards Xiao’s mindset. Just- it makes the whole thing weird in my eyes when Venti doesnt really seem to have his own reason to oppose the mindset idk-

Venti is the god of freedom. His backstory is freeing Mondstadt from a god’s tyrannical reign. His origin is a windsprite, just another breeze bringing changes for the better. His form is a nameless boy who played an instrument and then died, thus failing at his only dream and only ever accomplishing anything because of the help of others. He slept for a thousand years after the archon war to avoid putting Mond under the rule of yet another tyrannical god. He only even became a god because Andrius chose to let him. He wouldn’t have even had that chance if the nameless bard had survived, he’d remain just another wind while his friend ascended to godhood. Venti sacrifices his own power for his people’s freedom. 

now that I’ve laid out a number of canon facts, time for opinions:

Venti has little to no desire to be seen as a god. He thrives in, comes from, and emphasizes a lack of superiority in quite nearly everything. The first Ragnvindir, who canonically turned his back on Venti after Decarabian’s fall, likely did so because one- he anticipated power would corrupt and Venti would soon become just another tyrannical god, two- he suspected Venti used the nameless bard in an attempt to rise to godhood, or three- idk insert other possibilities to acknowledge again that i could totally be wrong.

Look me in the eyes and tell me Venti wouldnt trade godhood for his friend in an instant. His godhood was only granted to him because his friend died and could easily serve to constantly remind him of what could have been and what he lost. Venti takes no enjoyment from being seen as superior and in my opinion, I feel that it could actually make him largely uncomfortable when his divinity and abilities as an archon get involved-

The cabin headcanons

(yes the cabin has its own subtitle)

Cassian takes Nesta to the cabin after their mating bond ceremony and then happens chapter 55 but Nesta adapted. There’s no soup but a biscuit.

When Nyx is a little older he starts participating in the snowball fight. Rhys, Cassian and Az let him win.

In one of her visits, Feyre paints her sisters and Nyx’s eyes beside the IC ones, because they are now part of the Court of Dreams (this one made me cry a little honestly)

Whenever one of the IC’s couples wants to take a break they go to the cabin. Sometimes Az goes too to play chaperone. Spoiler: it doesn’t work (especially NOT with Nessian) (this one made me laugh)

Nesta likes the cabin’s vibes to read, so she goes often. Sometimes Cassian joins her but he bores to death so he wouldn’t let her read (if you get what i mean)

I can imagine the IC visiting it, long nights bonding in front of a fire and playing board games. Rhys, Nesta and Azriel are so competitive that stay awake til one of them wins. (actually Rhys and Azriel competitive spirit over board games is canon) (i just imagine Nesta playing the courtier to win) (then she loses and is cranky for a day). Meanwhile, Mor and Cassian drink themselves silly, and Feyre and Elain play with Nyx. Amren just purrs sitting in Varian’s lap. (Amren as the house cat)

The girls decide to do their own snowball fight honestly i don’t know why this is not canon yet. One year they decide to do girls vs. boys. The girls win and the boys don’t want to play against them again.

Nyx and his cousins learning to fly in a summer vacation there. (yeah because nessian’s children are happening in the future and they are in some of my headcanons sorry)

Nesta, Gwyn and Emerie go there sometimes (not so often because they prefer staying with the House please never forget they are all friends) and go hiking.

When Nyx and Nessian’s children are older and misbehave their parents send them to the cabin. Then whoever of them didn’t got to be grounded slips alcohol to the ones inside. (Actually i can see them doing this??? Rhys and Mor did the same. Also I can see Nyx and his cousins having a relationship similar to Rhys and Mor’s and Aelin and Aedion’s)

Inner Circle couples and the sauna. Not gonna say anything else, but just know it’s hella weird there’re no scenes in there...

The House of Wind headcanons

(big house deserved its own headcanons)

Nesta installs a dance studio in there and whenever she can she goes and dance for hours.

Nesta, Gwyn, Emerie and the House start a monthly sleep-over in the private library. The House always conjures the miniature pegasus without being asked.

Can we talk about the fact that in the future the House of Wind will have a nursery???? because i have to talk about it. don’t know if i’ll be able to do so without crying but just- nessian’s babies nation

When Nessian’s children are born the House would conjure anything just to please them and will protect them at all costs. The House as a babysitter and mother-hen.

The House starts talking to Cassian and recommends him smut books. He reads them and find them pretty interesting. He also recommends the House books but as they are of warfare the House finds them boring.

When Cassian and Nesta fight the House would be angry with Cassian for some days and would serve his food cold.

The House of Wind is Nyx’s favorite place in the city. Cassian and Nesta even give him a room when he is older. He loves it for the same reason Rhys did: flying. He also likes asking the House ridiculous things -the House loves his petitions-

Azriel keeps his room of course, but playing the chaperone is useless now (it always was)

Mor befriends the house and together they plan jokes to Cassian.

Feyre loves going to the House because it reminds her that her sister is happy and will never be alone.

Nessian headcanons

(of course there are nessian’s headcanons)

While sleeping, Cassian is very restless while Nesta sleeps in a ball, but they make it work. Also, Cassian takes all the blankets so Nesta ends up beside him and his wings.

The two of them loves sleeping in. Cassian would never admit it because he would never hear the end of it from the ic. (i know he said in acomaf that daylight is precious but now that he has found his mate he has change a liiitle his opinion about that. like now wake up beside his love is more precious than anything!!!!!)

I think it’s not fair we didn’t got a smut scene in the bathtub.

And in Windhaven.

When Nesta has a nightmare, Cassian would hug her and comfort her while remind her it was a dream, and now she got out, and is loved and cherished by a lot of people.

Nesta loves that Cassian strokes her head, more when her hair is down. (i really like that nesta prefers updo hairstyles tho)

Nesta sitting on Cassian’s lap. That’s all I need for a next book. (i also need more domestic scenes between them like the one in Winter Solstice when Nesta hangs their coats) (also i need to read nessian from another pov i want to know how they look like from outside their pov)

Nessian dancing into the darkest hours, losing themselves into the music and their embrace. (i need a slow dancing fanfic thx)

Nesta is still a little uncomfortable to venture into Velaris so she asks Cassian to fly her over the city whenever she needs to go out and doesnt want to tangle in the multitude.

Every Starfall, Nesta would take the stairs down and up just to remind herself the way up is long but by the end she would find happiness.

She is really protective over the House. She wouldn’t let anyone spill anything or mess around.

She visits her father’s tomb more than her sisters, and tells him every aspect of her life because she didn’t do it when he was alive.

She doesn’t like the Court of Nightmares, but the Winter Solstice ball in there is one of her favorites events of the year.

She goes back to being a courtier/emmisary for the Night Court and loves tormenting the people she has to deal with. (just imagine Nesta in Vallahan, they would sign the treaty in a second)

She continues working in the Library because she is still healing and the Library is such a big part of that. She continues fighting with Merrill too (gwyn is please of that)

Also she starts practicing with Amren to use her powers, even if there is not a lot to master (tho i think she is still very powerful but let’s wait for the next book to confirm this)

ALSO Nesta as a mother: she gives her children a lot of love because she remembers how it is to have a cold mother and doesn’t want to repeat the story.

I'm not sure if you mentioned this but I think the hardest part about their relationship would be how impulsive Marius is, while Luke always takes a step back and thinks it through, planning things ahead. I can easily imagine them arguing quite a bit because of this. But hey, that's just my opinion 🤷‍♀️

ok thank u for letting me know!! i wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on gun kinks. i feel like they’re so inherently violent and romanticizing in a way?? as someone who’s been touched by gun violence and given the political state of the US right now it feels so wrong to see people posting about mass shootings and then writing smuts with their fav characters using a gun in the bedroom the next day. i can’t tell if my personal history is making me make a bigger deal out of this than it is so i just wanted to see what you thought :)

Okay babe honestly speaking i think your personal history is making this one a bigger deal in terms of calling the kink itself violent and romanticizing violence. Now I say this because i have experience w gun violence as well but i don’t associate those experiences or gun violence in general w gun kinks because those two are not inherently the same and the kink doesnt stem from that, rather a risk and power dynamic. Like any other ‘extreme’ kink oftentimes theyre talked about prior to them happening and they’re done in safe ways to ensure that both parties are consenting to it and comfortable with it.

Mass shootings and gun kinks do not correlate to one another, nor do they hold any relationship to one another either. Also you gotta understand that not everyone writing those fics or talking ab their kinks is American, and i hate to say it but some of them don’t give a shit about America’s political climates or what occurs in the U.S. as they have other issues to be more concerned w in their home countries. I think if people want to speak ab mass shootings then they should snd they can reblog posts and raise awareness and educate others on the issues going on in the US surrounding the abundance of gun violence snd the lack of political policing of guns/regulations of guns on a federal level, and even if they choose to write a gun kink fic that doesn’t negate what they’ve posted about because truthfully this is fan fiction and it’s a fictional universe about a tv show/film/actor/person that you can choose to read about or not read about.

However I will say that the way they appear in fanfics is definitely questionable to me most of the time because people will give a tw for gun kink but its not ever discussed between the characters in the fic and its like mid fuck they just hold a glock to the readers head, thats not consensual nor is it safe in any way shape or form, especially the fics in the obx fandom for example which highlight JJ-a canonically 16/17 yr old immature bby-holding his glock to his partners head mid fuck and sometimes emphasized that its loaded simply isn’t safe, especially when it’s assumed that he’s still 16/17, or maybe aged up to 18 which truthfully doesn’t change much but his legality. I know in some mob AUs for other fandoms like marvel, CE, SS, etc they use gun kinks, knife kinks and highlight the violence behind them as its part of the attraction and the themes of the AU as well but those are warned snd tagged and authors typically disclose that there will be violence in their fics and give proper tw ahead of time.

I think gun kinks are honestly probably a lot more common than we think, they’re just taboo like most other kinks, but because theyre common and seen as taboo people don’t take the time to educate themselves on how they work or where they stem from, rather they just take the fact that they think its hot and write it into a fic which is what most fic writers do for a lot of kinks, but when theres no established consent (and it isnt disclosed prior to the actual fic in tw, tags, or an authors note) then that should raise some red flags.

(Most of these answers will deal with my Mando fics, so do not worry, but I gotta consider all fics for the multi-chap questions)

Two-shot: I thought about this long and hard because I really only consider myself a one-shot writer or a writer who starts multi-chaptered fics but never finishes them, but then I remembered I do have a two-shot! Comfort is weird because I wanted the two chapters to more seamlessly connect as one chapter, but it wasn’t happening so I separated it into two chapters

Most popular multichapter: If we’re going by kudos, And Up She Rises but guys??? Guys??? By hits, it’s And A Bottle of Scotch that absolutely knocks it out of the park. That just blows my mind.

Actual worst part of writing: That part of the fic writing where I’m convinced everything I’m writing is shit or I think I’m the worst writer alive. I’m at that point with both my dincobb h/c fics and Im suffering lol. Also editing.

How you choose your titles: Summarizing my fic into 1 word or a short phrase, (ie Compromising Positions, In Other Hands, etc). I’ve done song lyrics before but it always looks weird on my fics even though I love it on other people’s fics? It’s like when you see a shirt on a mannequin but when you try it on your body it looks wrong? That’s my experience with “fic titles as all lowercase song lyrics” or “mostly song lyrics (with a lil in parentheses).” 

Do you outline: Always, except in two scenarios. One, it’s under 1k. Two... its the “Luke is haunted by the darksaber” fic bc I just wrote that until I came to a stop. It was the weirdest experience ever because I’ve never, for any other fandom, done that. I only outlined it after the fact when I was editing to make sure it stayed consistent.

Ideas I probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice?: Guys my dinluke role-swap AU has the most kickass first line and I love the way I’ve characterized Mando!Luke and Jedi!Din. But it requires me to rewrite so much of Star Wars canon and then naturally reveal the changes to the audience, it’s nigh impossible to write (plus I dont... really have a plot lmao). I’m also crossing all my fingers that my dincobb big bang longfic doesnt fall into this category 

Callouts @ me: Stop comparing your fics to others people’s fics!! Stop comparing the success of one of your fics to another one of your fics!! Just enjoy that people like your fics!! Just read fics you want to read!

Best writing traits: Usually I’d say dialogue (but the structure of Mando eps makes that a lil harder), so instead I’m gonna say emotion. I think I’m getting way better at writing emotion and it definitely shows in actually writing romance in my Mando fics instead of just multiple pre-relationship fics

Spicy tangential opinion: I love reading about trans characters having sex but I also get uncomfy when I see that the majority of fics tagged with “trans character X” are pwp but I ALSO hate that that uncomfortableness is preventing me from spreading my wings and trying to write smut. Just... balance, y’all

i agree w a lot of this!! i dont want to speak out of turn but from what ive heard from indigenous women (which im not) the problem isnt the ship itself but its representation ig? basically my understanding is that in fanfic n what not katara is often stripped of her autonomy and relocated and Thats what people have problems with? i think youre right just bc zuko and sokka and are close and age and its Gay doesnt suddenly make it not vaguely racist (for lack of better terms)

That is a perfectly fair and valid criticism of the corners in fandom in which that happens. However, at that point, it’s an issue with racism in general in fandoms at large--and, I promise you, this is not an issue that’s exclusive to Zutara. I can only speak for my own experience, of course, but the Zutara discord server of which I am part has a lot of poc as well as queer people (including some queer poc!!!), some of whom are indigenous, and so when people call the entire fandom ‘white, straight, and racist’ (which is effectively what happens when they say that just shipping zk is racist/heteronormative, regardless of like, context), it not only erases all of us and our contributions to the fandom, but it also like... ignores the fact that those fics and metas are soooo not the norm.

Like, I’ve lost count of how many ‘fire lady Katara’ metas take into account how much of her culture she would bring with her to the Fire Nation. Everything from spectacular fanart designing clothing that incorporates her own culture with her husbands, to having her called Lady of the Moon rather than Fire Lady, to having their courtship extend over the years she spent as an ambassador and making so many changes for the better to the nation she would eventually marry into.

I almost never see meta or fanart where Katara marries Zuko and then completely assimilates and abandons her culture. But you know where I do see Katara stripped of her autonomy, made an accessory of her husband, denied agency, and having her legacy completely erased to the point where if you hadn’t watched AtLA you’d have no idea why she’d be well known at all except for who she married?

Canon.

That’s what the comics and LoK did to Katara, so I really don’t understand how these things get flung at the Zutara fandom as if we haven’t been fighting back against that future for her for years. The Northern and Southern Water Tribes went into a full blown civil war and Katara didn’t lift a finger to try and use her political clout or just her fierce passion and love for her people to knock some sense into them. Her son and his entire family were kidnapped by zealots and threatened with death and she didn’t even try to help the rescue effort. I get that LoK wasn’t the Gaang’s story, but AtLA wasn’t the White Lotus’ story either, and those old ass men got to kick ass and take names all over the place, so don’t hand me that ‘Katara was too old’ crap. She was, what, eighty something? Bumi was 112 in AtLA!!!

Sorry, I didn’t mean to go off on an LoK rant, but my ultimate point is, it doesn’t make sense to me to come after zutara shippers when, by and large, we wish canon had done better by Katara and that is reflected in much of our fanworks and metas. Does this mean there won’t be racist shlock in our fandom??? Of course not! Because racism is insidious and no fandom is free from it, so of course if there are works that perpetuate harmful ideals it’s perfectly fine to talk about them and ask that the people involved do better in the future, or just avoid those who refuse to change. But slamming an entire fandom for the actions of a few, while ignoring the fact that their preferred ship pulls from the same exact fanbase (and I’m sorry, but white gays are no less racist than white straights, that’s just a fact), is hypocritical in the extreme.

You know the more fics you read, the more you develop a preference for them and I’ve been reading fics for largely over 10 years and my preference is basically just, canon fics,,, whether it’s canon compliant, canon divergent, fix it fics, as long as it takes place in the same universe idc

This is like one of most peoples first fandoms or first Real people fAndom so they take outside opinion to heart, like with the Twitter activism And there’s this sense of weirdness with fics that take place in this universe if that makes sense Like with “hard block me if you read irl fics” “I only write/read AUs” it makes fic writers just stick to AUs

And yeah that’s a whole other thing but my main problem with AUs for any fandom really, but especially this one is characterization? Like they’ll all just like change completely everything about them just to make them fit whatever story is being told or like they try to use their actual characterization but it feels off because they wouldn’t be like this if everything was different

aus (depending on what ofc) are generally hard to do well and its quite easy to do them poorly by overlooking certain parts so its not rlly that suprising ? that this fandom doesnt have that many good aus + u have to be kinda creative to do more thna just sex and sickfics and meetup fics in irl and even then its gonna be an au of some sort. honestly the ones i like the most are the ones that dont need that much exposition or world building because its less to learn and i think for a lot of fics ur world has to fit your character, forcing your character to change to be a part of hte world or to be the protag u want them to be just isnt going to work bc u fuck over their characterisation which is half the appeal of fanfics for quite a few people

yo do tell us about harmonization. i never really cared for the concept tbh i think because i dont really read many fanfics with the sky users (oops) so it doesnt come up often but i am curious to your opinion

Hoo boy I have a lot of thoughts and I’m gonna put it in a read more. Not just for length, but because I do feel like this concept is deeply flawed and I have strong opinions on it

For people who don’t know, harmonization is a fanon interpretation of how the sky flame’s attribute of “harmony” interacts with the other flames. Other flames can “harmonize” with the sky and create a flame bond, to the point where they can all feel each other’s physical/emotional pain or even hear each other’s thoughts. It can vary from author to author but these are the main themes and it’s a surprisingly very widespread thing.

▲ My main issue with it is the extreme codependency that happens between the sky and other flames. It just seems manipulative that because of this bond, you can’t ever leave the sky user, or doing so puts you both in excruciating pain. Even if I think most of Tsuna’s friends are loyal as hell by their own will, people can change and leave you, that’s a part of life. Harmonization takes away that agency and automatically makes the dynamic really unhealthy.

▲ The above point is even worse when they physically can’t be away from each other. Some fics have it so Lambo can’t have other friends?? These characters are all kids and I think this would fuck them up pretty hard developmentally, not to mention a majority of the authors writing these are adults and the theme of possessiveness is so creepy. Like some characters will tell each other “you have to stay with us/me for your safety” and that’s just, not great?? 

▲ A huge part of KHR is showing how Tsuna develops positive relationships with the people around him, including anyone who isn’t a guardian. I think this concept really undermines his friendships outside of that circle (with Basil, Kyoko, Haru, Enma, etc). It’s like no matter how hard he tries to connect with other people outside of the fucking bond, it doesn’t count as a meaningful relationship.

▲ Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is that the guardians are drawn to Tsuna because of his powerful flames. Again, this also goes against the basis of KHR. Tsuna isn't some powerful badass that people are crawling over themselves to talk with. He's just an average kid who gets bullied. The reason all his guardians are so loyal to him is because he earned their trust by making real connections to them. They've gone through so much together that they're genuinely really close friends because of that, not because of some kind of supernatural property.

▲ I feel like there’s also a huge issue with consent where they can’t choose who they bond with. It’s a fated thing apparently. I’ve heard of a lot of abhorrent fics where Nana was forced to be with Iemitsu because of this and the content is pretty genuinely disgusting.

▲ It's not great how a lot of fics make it so the guardians are the only people that matter to one another. They don't have a life outside of Tsuna at all. At best it makes for bland characterization and at worst no one should rely on one person so heavily.

▲ This is a weaker point because we make fics to deviate from canon but I feel that it’s worth noting: it’s confirmed in canon that flames have no definite correlation to personality. If anything, it’s mainly their role in fights/a group. There are no set rules. It’s like zodiac signs, everyone has one and there are traits associated with them, but they don’t define your entire person. I get why people want to play with the correlation concept because flames are sick as hell but doing that by creating harmonization where it’s so absolutely ingrained in their existence is just... weird.

▲ Harmonization is usually paired with really weird flame lore. Like, they assign personality traits to the flames that are really extreme and just not how the character actually functions. One example is that cloud is supposedly very possessive and territorial, and they make Hibari act like a fucking animal and describe it as pack bond and that's weird as fuck. In the worse fics, it's really just an excuse to have ABO without making it an ABO fic. With minors. It’s so instinctual and animalistic??? 

▲ There's this whole thing about having one of each flame type to complete the set and feel whole I guess, which is already weird but also contradictory to canon. Tsuna has two mists and Xanxus doesn't have a cloud at all. Did Xanxus flame bond with the robot being powered by his adoptive father? What's going on there.

▲ There are cases where characters will use Rain flames to calm down a sad or angry person. In theory sounds fine, but usually in these fics the other person didn’t consent to it. It’s emotionally manipulative and you’re basically just sedating them. There is no communication going on and it’s treated like it’s a good thing and that the rain user is being helpful. In fact, there’s rarely any good communication in these fics at all. People just use their flames to do everything because they’re such a overwhelmingly big focus.

▲ Harmonization fics often seem like an excuse to put Tsuna in pain by losing everyone he cares about, and it ends up being more deeply uncomfortable than angsty or fun to read.

What made u like leatin so much? Like u write a fic after fic for them its INSANE ,or it doesnt have to do with ur ship but mostly ur passion for writing. Point still there,lol what made u like them👀

I went back through my own archive and found that I did indeed talk about this before here: x. Short answer: 1x09. The scene after Leah runs into the ocean made it all click for me. So obviously I went back and confirmed that, yep, there are all kinds of Leatin moments scattered throughout. It’s really just their dynamic. And the potential for enemies to friends to lovers. It’s hard to pin down exactly what it is that drives me to write fic after fic for them apart from their dynamic in canon and all the possible ways things could play out or be altered between them, depending on the story I’m trying to tell. 

I should be studying rn but let me just - let’s talk pre-island, island, and post-island Leatin possibilities. Because this is how I get ideas, and this is part of how I write. A lot of what I do is work with what’s presented to us in canon and then fuck it up in varying ways. Leah and Fatin have the most interesting dynamic on the island with the most potential for development (yeah, I said it). So the number of fics I’ve put up does have to do with my hard-to-explain pull toward Leatin, but working with the possibilities to tell so many different stories with the same incredibly complex characters is fun. This is what I do to entertain myself. Let me shed some light on my thought process by writing you a mini novel.

In canon, Leah and Fatin go to the same school but (as far as we know) really aren’t too aware of each other. Fatin thinks Leah’s a weird art prude, and Leah pretty much runs with Ian’s assessment of Fatin as a basic bitch plus based on what Leah says in 1x04, she likely sees Fatin as the school slut. Feel free to disagree with my pre-island interpretation of canon, but if this is roughly accurate, there are so many ways to disrupt that and tell a story completely without the island and without having to draw up an entire AU (such as the entire Unsinkable Eight goes to the same school or whatever). I did this with the second Leatin fic I ever wrote (the friends with benefits one here: x). I’m basically doing this with my current fic. Change the fact that Leah and Fatin don’t know each other before the island then work through how their dynamic operates without the island ever occurring. Maybe you’d even skip the enemies part of the enemies to friends to lovers thing that I like to use. Or maybe not. Literally, so many ways to change something between them and center a story around it.

As for the island, Leah and Fatin’s relationship to each other evolves rapidly. Like I said, potential for enemies to friends to lovers. Look at how things change between them from 1x04 to 1x05 to 1x09. I’ve written stuff set on the island, including in the days after the latest day canon has given us so far, because I’m very intrigued by how things are going to change between Leah and Fatin after 1x09 (and 1x10 really didn’t show us much of that). If you look objectively just at 1x09, by the end, Leah and Fatin are friends (though there’s still tension - Fatin’s conversation with Leah that ends with Leah telling her to fuck off, and then all the gay ass staring when Fatin holds her). And I love writing the other girls and including many different potential friendships among them. Plus I just love fucking up canon, taking one moment and changing it slightly to see what could happen. I’ve done that for Leatin (here: x and here: x) but I started that with my fics for FTWD. Just kinda how I like to write fanfic. I don’t always like to completely disregard canon (or just incorporate the bits I like) but to mess with it, you know?

The fic I’m working on right now is set completely post-island. I’ve written other fics that are set post-island. There’s so much that could happen, depending on how you assume things have gone down on the island or in the bunker, and depending on what happens with the rest of the Unsinkable Eight. (Depending on so many factors, actually. That’s the fun part: deciding what they are and how shit has gone down.) There are literally just so many fucking possibilities to write so many different stories with the same two characters that I already love. There are so many variables to be played around with. So many ways things can go down.

Look, Leah and Fatin are complex characters on their own. That in itself is fun to explore even before you include their friendship or a romantic relationship. (Not to mention how they relate to the other girls.) It just sparks my interest, which is hilarious because I was really writing for FTWD because I love writing within the zombie genre. Obviously The Wilds isn’t anything like that. You all have no idea how close I was to not watching The Wilds in the first place. Literally just started it on a whim late one night (while I was in the middle of watching another show, at that) and binged it in under 24 hours because it’s insanely entertaining. Also you’re all incredibly lucky @iamkidfish reached out to me, or you wouldn’t have nearly as many Leatin fics from me as you currently do. (Love you bud.) I probably would’ve retired from writing by now lmao. Believe me, I’ve considered it.

This is probably not at all what you were looking for from me, but I needed a break from studying and you gave me an opportunity. No regrets.

Tldr: it has to do with how much I love their characters and their dynamic and the way their relationship has progressed so far in canon in addition to all the possibilities that this opens up pre-island, on island, and post-island between them (and the other girls, and those friendships/relationships). O: How do you begin a story--with the plot, or the characters?

PLOT. usually the first thing i know about a fanfic is the climax or the ending, and i just won’t write it if i don’t have something that Resonates with me that makes it worth writing the first ten chapters or whatever. actually one of the biggest reasons broken road rotted for a year as a little outline doc, aside from them killing mary and me temporarily divorcing supernatural, was that i didn’t know the climax/ending of that fic. once i realized what it was, i decided to go ahead and work on it again

Q: Do you have any discarded scenes/storylines/projects?

SCENES, very few. i tend to move scenes instead of cut them if i can - i re-insert sliced dialogue if i have to, it drives cally nuts. STORYLINE/PROJECTS...oh man, a million. i had like literally a DOZEN one-shot followups to that teen wolf rarepair fic (that i still might write someday tbh), an original novel do not steal about a psychic a werewolf and a (shut up) dark angel. i also still want to rewrite my first ever fanfic someday (ocarina of time novelization), i’m slowly coming to grips w/ the fact that i’m probably never gonna finish my detroit become twink fanfic bc you can only write something like that while hyperfixated. the sequel to that merlin fic that i’m never gonna write. 

oh also back when i wrote a pairing that will not be named here bc i don’t want to lose anymore followers (i DON’T anymore god stop cyberbullying me!!) i had this 1.22 canon divergent au where john died in the crash and dean survived, and so there was no hell deals and they still had the colt. and then dean got attacked by YED’s demons and put into a coma and was slowly dying, right, and he was a coma-ghost the WHOLE TIME, but bc the fic was sam pov sam/the reader didnt know until the twist ending. because obviously dean wasn’t gonna tell sam, obviously, he was just trying to make sure sam finished the fight before he kicked it. and he spends the whole fic being sketchy about what happened that one night he wouldn’t (couldn’t) answer his phone (getting mugged by demons) and trying not to let sam touch him and hiding their emf meter etc etc and then at the climax of the fic he gets some iron swung at him and he vanishes and sam realizes that he’s transparent and the cold isn’t just because it’s winter and he’s like YOU’RE DEAD?? AND YOU DIDN’T TELL ME?? and dean’s like i’m only ALMOST dead. and so then they have to kill YED and also save dean’s life before his time runs out (and they do). anyway that fic was like 100k and i loved it so even though i’m never gonna do this i would love to rewrite/repurpose it to be a gen fic bc it really was so great

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

like, all of them lol. everything i’ve ever written is horrifyingly personal actually! gross. you just can’t see that unless you Know me. like, ok, jkr doesnt have rights and i can’t find the interview where she said it but one time when someone asked her which character was most like her she was like oh theyre all like me in some way or another...i put this part of myself into one and that part of myself into another. that’s a mood. i’d never write a fanfic about something i experienced exactly because that feels weird and way too personal to publish on the internet for hundreds or maybe even thousands of strangers to see. boundaries and privacy are good things! but i can change many small details and a few large ones and then i can get away with practically anything so it’s like free therapy AND super authentic at the same time with minimal embarrassment <3 i love fanfic <3

Opinion on the Reylo ending

Of course I wanted them together. I wanted them together since the moment Ben took off his mask in TFA. I remember I was embarrassed to say that I shipped them, me then only a 15-year old, because it seemed like everybody around me hated even the idea of them together. But I always rooted for them, and when someone asked, I told them I wanted them together.

And then the beauty that is TLJ came out. Call me crazy, to this day, it’s still my favorite Star Wars movie. And a big part of why it’s because it’s so character centric. While TFC and TROS are moved by plot, TLJ is carried so well by the characters. Especially all the scenes with Ben and Rey, they were the most beautiful.

But the ending of TROS shocked me. I hated it. I came home after the movie and secluded myself by walking around my neighborhood, because I just couldn’t believe that they had actually done it. They had redeemed him, finally had their moment together, he died, and he was never mentioned again. That was probably the worst part for it to me. The fact that the movies had been building up their relationship for so long, killed him off(which still doesnt make sense according to them being a Dyad), and he was never seen or mentioned again. No mourning Rey, no force ghost at the end. It was so disappointing. And yeah, there were a lot of things in the movie I didn’t like, little things that were confusing or totally taken out of proportion. It is by far not a perfect movie.

But I’m also so thankful for the movie that we did get. For the fact that we WERE able to see Ben redeemed on screen, and yes, even though it wasn’t long and he only spoke a few words, it was still there. I may be angry at Disney right now for going behind JJ’s back and changing so many things in the final cut, but at least they kept that in. All these years we were rooting for Ben and his redemption, and we got it. We wanted that kiss and we got it, and it was so sweet. So innocent and gentle compared to how they had acted the whole movie. And. THE BOY SMILED. I literally sobbed when that happened.

At least, among all the abuse and threats and dreams crushed that the Reylo and Bendemption community have faced over the past five years, we were right. It’s canon now. There will still be people out there who hate us for it, and that might always be the case, but at least we WON. we got those scenes, and while not perfect or very long or exactly what we wanted, we still got them.

Hope has always been the biggest theme in Star Wars. It’s a beautiful one, it echoes the hope we feel as people that the world can be a better place and we can be kinder towards one another. The reylo community(at least the good side) has always been so amazing at that, so don’t give up hope now!! I do have hope that Ben will return somehow, in a movie or a spinoff or something. The connection they have through the Dyad is not something broken so easily, and while the movie may not have acknowledged that, Rey knows it.

We can have hope knowing that Ben Solo was finally redeemed, he felt both of his parents immense love for him, and Rey’s, the person he wanted to be with the most, before he died. And while, yes, he may have died, and it may not have been the ending we wanted, we still have each other. And our fanfics. And our love and support of one another’s work, art, feelings, emotions about it all. We can always have hope knowing that we were right all these years about Ben, and Adam deliverered the most beautiful performance. I hope one day we can see JJ’s cut, or the deleted scenes, or what the original ending was. But for now, let’s love one another, and forgive each other and speak the truth. It’s what Ben would have wanted.

get ready cause this is like the only thing i will very much despise and if someones been my friends for years they know who i am talking about because eventually, i will rant about it when i recall how much i hate what happened in the series. This is purely for me.

Berry. From tokyo fucking mew mew a la mode spin off. This is a spin off manga from the manga/anime Tokyo mew mew, and i will set something straight, this is purely from spite and pettiness from formative years that ive just let be my only source of genuine disdain regarding a media work i liked for just such silly reasons but now i get to talk about it and pour my salt! 

Okay so, imagine youre like a young preteen or whatever, you had a anime you liked watching in just passing cause you never paid attention to TV schedules so you never knew what was on ever, ofc you found the 4kids dubbed anime considering it was early 00s and your sister had the computer more than you could, but finally youre older, you get more computer time cause your sister has her own by now and you can read fanfiction and look at fanart of a series you liked, even, gasp, rewatching the anime and this time with subs and realizing a lot of things were different [along with watching episodes in 5 different parts on youtube and struggling to find them all to make a complete episode]

You keep encountering a character or two in fanfictions, youve never heard of them, berry? who? Ringu who? You look them up and more so just find sparse images cause what was wikis back then? you think i actually looked things up like that? The logical conclusion for me was, these are just popular fan characters [Again mind you, this is even before the english release was in 2013, like there was even less Berry art and so fanart i saw of her w the cast was like ‘oh someones self insert’] 

And of course, Tokyo Mew Mew, not the most widely known and definitely didn’t have a very….mature audience for English speakers. So of course the fanfics were quite honestly, shit, amateur garbage of angsty preteens wanting to be angsty teens and edgy and the worst part, having the designated bitch mean girl to ruin the protagonist of the stories life so they can write their revenge porn. So guess who that girl was. Berry. So shes already at a huge disadvantage of me liking her, already thinking shes just a popular fan character to hate on and what not because people liked the main cast too much to actually make one of them the antagonists of the fanfic

Now for me totally digging into the fucking series itself, i still havent read knowing i will just not have a good time because ill be like this is booooooooring i want my old cast back. So instead of reading it, i wikied it and the characters and ngl ive done this multiple times, still refreshes how much i dont like it 

The problem with berry:

1. Berry is the protagonist of a continuation of the tokyo mew mew franchise, which okay but the bad part is, this isn’t like just new characters in a familiar scenario but now just in a different place too. Majority of the cast is cast from the main story 

2. Berry just literally waltzed into the place, got zapped by the machine that gave the mews their powers but UH OOHHH she got TWO animal genes in her now Shes a rabbit AND a C A T [like ichigo! but a DIFFERENT cat], instead of the usual one. SO SPECIAL, SO UNIQUE. And she gets to be LEADER of the mews, this fucking ROOKIE. Not to mention, like the regular cast from the first mews are there, you know the girls that had a couple years to get shit on lock and know what theyre doing. and you think Mint and Zakuro at the least would even let some new Rookie would come in and just take leadership role? I dont fucking think so. The worst part is, Ichigo comes back in the story, and doesn’t take back leadership, like thats the most self insert shit this whole girls just been a huge culmination of all the shit thatd make a character mary sue in the early 00s of a fan character. It blows my mind this is a actual legit canon character. I dont give a shit if people out there making “mary sues” get out of my face, people have fun. Its the fact This Is A Canon Protagonist of a spin off, with the old cast

3. WHY THE FUCK IS HER NAME BERRY AND SHES CREAM COLORED. I do not get it, it doesn’t follow the themeing at all, and frankly, the only other new mew in the series is this girl Ringu, who despite having penguin DNA doesnt have a single fucking animal thing about her like cowards and her outfit looks more like her name [apple] and not even trying to give her tuxedo look if you ARENT GOING TO MAKE RINGU THE PENGUIN HAVE ANYTHING PHYSICALLY PENGUIN YOU COWARDS. Its a shit design. no ifs ands or buts. i hate it.

4. This one doesn’t deal with berry but with the series because appearently despite the original mechanics of making things mutate basically. THE ALIENS ARENT EVEN THE MAIN BAD GUYS NOR ARE THEY REALLY IN THE STORY. THE ANTAGONISTS ARE JUST SOME RICH WHITE BASTARD KIDS WHO THINK THE WORLDS BORING. THATS NOT INTERESTING. ALIENS TRYING TO TAKE THE EARTH BACK [they left after a series of disasters that almost led to their extinction] AFTER LEAVING BECAUSE THEIR NEW PLANET IS IN SHAMBLES AND THEYRE BARELY SURVIVING AND THEY FEEL THE HUMANS ARE JUST DESTROYING THE EARTH [it was basically like any other 90s cartoon about planet health ngl] IS MORE COMPELLING AND INTERESTING THAN THIS SHIT. 

To sum up, i hate berry so much because of how i was 1. introduced to her 2. learned more about her 3. her looks and naming that dont even fucking align with ANYONE in the damn series. Seriously why is a rabbit/cat girl thats white colored not even called Creme or something ?? why the fuck is her name berries…….. 4. who the fuck lets a rookie be leader 5. I hate when series try to make a new side thing but basically take all the old characters to come back and only slap in like a few new characters like i didnt want this, esp if youre not changing up the original dynamic of the characters, Not Mint or Zakuro or even a shocker like Lettuce or Pudding steps up to try and be leader while Ichigo is off w her BF for school stuff. No you make a rookie whos ‘very special’ be the new leader and then another new bih cause well, guess you cant just put in ONE new mew and only have new antagonists 6. if youre doing a spin off/continuation you either give us the cast in a new setting and change up a few things to we can explore new dynamics OR give us basically a WHOLE new cast to see how they fall into place and hell even be foils for old cast to compare and see how different or similar things are

So I’m finally getting around to writing out a bunch of info about my Sander Sides au so I hope youre all ready--(its like 1 am im so sorry for any spelling mistakes and missed tags)

So its 1 am on a work night and I cant sleep and I’ve had lots of ideas and canon things for this au bouncing around my head for days and now TONIGHTS THE NIGHT ITS HAPPENING IM DELIVERING YOU ALL THE DETAILS AND EVERYTHING I CAN THINK OF AND TYPE

I know I got a few new followers from all my recent sander sides art and also thanks to @sugarglider9603 reblogging some art I made of their au I got the biggest flood of exposure and attention on my art ive ever had and I have so much to thank them for, for all recent exposure ive gotten the past couple days( theyre so sweet and lovely and easy to talk to sugar deserves all the love--) and its given me a huge surge of motivation and confidence to post this. Ok so! 

This Au was originally inspired by @residentanchor‘s amazing fanfic A Lesson in Practicality and also a little bit by @prettyinaccurate‘s fanged virgil au( I’ll get more into that further down) 

So it takes place in a (currently) unnamed bigger city I based off San Francisco and Sacramento( because I live in Cali and those are the two major cities ive really visited ya know?) The boys are all in various stages of their twenties when they move into a four bedroom apartment together: Patton Foster is the oldest of the roomies at 27, then Logan Masters at 26, Roman Prince at 24, and finally Virgil Collins at 22. They move in together because it all works out for them really, the apartment is in a good distance to all their current jobs, whether by bus or even in Pat’s case in walking distance and with all four of them it was well affordable and was pretty nice. I mean hey it even came with a little communal balcony ( since theyre on third floor of the building) 

Things are understandably a little rocky at first , i mean isnt it always though?

Virgil has alot of anxiety and so he tends not to talk really at all at the beginning unless he ABSOLUTELY had to, mostly communicating in noncomittal noises and soft grumbles, and he was fresh out of collage and barely two years into his job and out on his own for the first time and he wasnt really ready for it either like christ too many people

Patton was bright bubbly and caring. This wasnt his first rodeo with roomies, I mean cmon, hes been sharing a room with his older brother Damian(deceit) on and off almost all his freakin life, nor was it his first time living on his own with strangers(hes lived in two different parts of two when he was job hopping before he settled down in his current part time job)

Roman was extroverted loud and exciteable, he too was used to sharing his living space( he had TWO siblings after all) and before he had moved into the apartment he had tried living on his own and with other roommates while he attended collage, but those just didnt work out well ( he ended up staying with his older brother Remy in his studio apartment across the city while he finished out that semester and searched for a job to keep an income.

Logan was serious minded stern toned and confident, he had a minor degree in teaching that he was slowly repursueing and had been out on his own for awhile before he had moved in. And though cold at first he soon found his group of housemates...enjoyable.

Its about a month into them living together that they learn exactly why despite slowly getting close and getting to know each other Virgil still kept a wide distance: He had entirely sharp teeth.

“ I dunno....I was born with them..theyve always been a sharp pain in my ass...” - virgil, about his teeth

Of course just having sharp teeth wasnt bad enough oh no. You see a few years back when he was about 18 he was young and dumb and made horrifically stupid and reckless decisions under peer pressure and ended up doing something that not only pointedly (haha oh god im not funny) chipped his front teeth but it fucked up his teeth pretty majorly, he went from having a normal overbite to almost having a goddamn underbite and crooked all his teeth, and the only way to fix it( because somehow miraculous for all the damage done it turned out to be mostly reversable aside from the chipping) was getting braces to realign his teeth. So he’s had pretty purple braces over his fangs since he was 18 and they werent expected to come off until he was AT LEAST 25 and he was insecure about them. ( he got mocked for them through his two and a half years of junior collage)

Once the gang finds out they are understanding and helpful and dont make a big deal about it( though virgil gains a significant amount of more vampire related nicknames from roman)

Once they get close and comfortable around each other the apartment is pretty warm and lively! 

Virgil works at the art store as an assistant manager and head stocker( a bit of a dream come true since he was an art student)

Roman works as a part time waiter at a family resturant as well as working at a nearby theater( he was of course a lovely theater major) 

Patton worked at a nearby cafe and bakery as a bit of everything! He helped wait tables, serve behind the counter, and helped in the back in the kitchen( the owners were family friends and he’d been working there almost four to five years at that point, boi knows how to do everything) 

Logan worked at a big name bookstore, and also provided tutoring sessions for highschool students on the side by commision

More FACTS~~

Family ages for the big families go as follows:

Fosters: Damian(28), Patton(27)

Prince: Remy(26), Roman(24, older twin by 10 minutes), Remus(24, younger twin)

Emile is 27 and is a licensed therapist and works as a counselor for young adults that volunteers at the nearby library to ready to children

Remy works as a coffee barista in Emile’s building

Remus does alot of odd jobs, kinda working as an independent for hire and gets a surprising steady flow of work and pay. Hes still a trash man though, but hes a successful trash man( partly thanks to Damian calling in favors with connections)

Damian works at a law firm slowly moving into the position of prosecutor

Virgil doesnt really get along with his family and at some point Emile offers to take virgil in as his adopted brother, with Damian assuring him if he wanted concrete legal papers to start changing his last name, cutting ties with his family, anything needed for it he’d see to it that they’d be providing(something our boi really appreciates)

Remy visits Emile on his breaks since hes literally just...two hallways down and vice versa

Damian and Remus live together in the next, slightly smaller city over because Damian’s work transferred him to a different office in order for him to keep moving up in the ranks so to speak. 

Hes also good at what he does.

Family nights happen whenever they can

Patton got to teach them how to cook alot of complicatied dishes from scratch, a bonding time he adores

Roman got Virgil an Espeon hoodie after they all start dating and virgil loves it and wears it alot around the house because its a thicker hoodie and warm( though he tries to ignore the big ears and the obnovious tail

Virgil also loves visiting Roman’s work on what Ro likes to refer to as “ hellish days” AKA kids day which means goofy kid friendly theme days. His favorite was probably alice in wonderland day when Roman was Tweedle Dee

Roman played J.D at the local theater and likes to hum some of the his songs to switch up the Disney

The balcony is covered in houseplants and and a corner of old blankets and pillows to sit and chill on

Once a month Logan and Patton have what is affectionately referred to as the Cat Discourse

After any particularly rough days at work Patton tends to massage Logan’s shoulders and back to make sure Lo doesnt get any really bad stress knots

in return when Logan sees Patton’s head a hard day he makes Patton’s favorite drink and pulls him into a hug and let the older man fall asleep in his arms while they watch movies

Pat and roman sense each other’s bad days and order in some cliche diner food and hole up in pattons room with Pattons computer and relax the shittiness away with comedy specials and movies 

Likewise Virgil has a knack of picking up Roman’s bad days and always grabs a couple glasses and a bottle kinda cheap wine and they end up curling up together on Romans bed marathoning Disney movies on Virgil’s laptop 

and when Virgil closes himself off more than normal Logan manages to lure him out of his room and they end up sitting out on the balcony quietly talking and stargazing

so loving and fond and soft with each other

you hurt one of them you gonna get BEAT by the others. 

Speaking of getting beat, never EVER mess with Roman or Remus in Remy’s proximity

Remy Andrew Prince can and WILL fuck you right up if you hurt his little brothers. He’s protective.

and where Remy will rearrange your face Damian will ruin you mentally and legally if you so much as mistreat a single freckle on his little brother’s face, despite knowing that Patton is fully capable of taking care of himself. 

Everyone protects Virgil, dont mess with or hurt virgil or you have the pack coming for ya throat
