wang yibo - excerpts from an article about his recent race win
China (October 19, 2024) - The first round of the final of the 2024 GTSC season in Zhuhai (GTSC·Guangdong Province GT Series Zhuhai Station) has come to an end.
Wang Yibo, a well-known artist who represented UNO Racing Team, ushered in a professional GT event for the first time. He showed his outstanding strength and excellent defense with professional driver Fang Junyu, and successfully won the runner-up position. In terms of group results, Fang Junyu/Wang Yibo won the runner-up in the GT3 PA group.
Wang Yibo's first journey in the GT finals was challenged by many strong players on the field, including the experienced Li Dongsheng. Li Donghui and Li Dongsheng were in a fierce chase throughout the game. Li Donghui completed a tough defense at the beginning and maintained the third place. After Li Dongsheng took over the car, he launched a strong pursuit of Wang Yibo at the end of the game. The two drivers presented a wonderful offensive and defensive battle in front of many online and offline audiences. In the end, Wang Yibo held his position and crossed the finish line 0.398 seconds ahead of Li Dongsheng, and won the runner-up with Fang Junyu.
[Post-race Remarks]Runner-up/GT3 PA category runner-up UNO Racing Team Wang Yibo
I am very happy to participate in a professional GT race for the first time. The race was very exciting, and I was also very nervous during the final battle. I still need to continue to improve my familiarity and control of the car, and I look forward to running at a better speed next time.

Hi rainbowsky☺️ thanks for all the fun posts. I love them a lot! I am a fruit from 2021. Toxic mtjj has recently attecked fruit with this claim. 'The court ruled that bjyx is a disgrace to Mr. Wang Yibo.'
I am trying to find information on this, but I can't seem to find it. Do you know anything about it?
Hi remember! Thanks, I'm glad you're enjoying my blog! ☺️
If I've said this once, I've said this a thousand times, block and ignore toxic people (and report where appropriate). Don't give them the time of day. They are trying to hurt you. Ignore, ignore, ignore.
As for this particular claim, this emptyjiejie is misrepresenting what happened in order to upset turtles.
They're talking about the Lyfen case, where a BXG sued Lyfen for failing to give them a prize they had legitimately won. Lyfen's homophobic defense was that they were trying to protect DD's reputation by disassociating the contest/event from BXG.
Lyfen won the case. Of course they did! Anyone who thought the ruling would go against Lyfen is out of touch with reality.
This is a lone BXG against a large corporation with high powered lawyers. The BXG never stood a chance, regardless of what basis Lyfen argued its case upon.
Lyfen was the defendant in the case, and a brand arguing it was trying to protect its reputation and the reputation of its spokesperson is already at an advantage. I'm not an expert in Chinese law, but in most courtrooms around the world all Lyfen would have had to do to win the case was prove that, in their mind, they were acting in good faith. They wouldn't have had to prove anything beyond that. They wouldn't even have had to prove anything negative about turtles, just that as a brand, they were acting based on what they felt was best for their company and their spokesperson. If they weren't acting illegally in doing so, they win.
LGBTQ rights aren't protected under the law in China. In a country like China where there are no legal protections in place against LGBTQ discrimination (and where, in fact, the current government - which is very homophobic - is increasingly cracking down on LGBTQ people), courts are going to side with a defendant who is arguing against being associated with 'deviant queer culture'. According to the law in China, queerness isn't a protected class. Quite the contrary.
The courts didn't rule that BXG are a 'disgrace', they ruled that Lyfen was within their rights to not want to associate with them. Even if the courts had made that determination that BXG were a bunch of disgraceful, immoral monsters, anyone wanting to cite a LGBTQ repressive institution on matters pertaining to the morality of homosexuality/queer culture... uhhhh*... 🤔
I have said this before, but anyone who smugly cheers on this kind of thing is a fucking asshole, and a homophobe.
*This reminds me of shrimps gleefully quoting a bottom-feeding paparazzo as 'proof' that BJYX isn't real. Solos don't actually GAF about right and wrong when it comes to attacking BXG. They'll throw all morality out the window if they think it can help further their anti agenda.
Block and ignore, block and ignore, block and ignore.
And please, if you read any of my posts, make it this one.
I talked a bit more about brand antis here.
#i'll take homophobia for 800 alex!#antis go home#solos belong to moling su sect#ggdd controversies#ask

salut, bonjour, guten dag, ciao!
get to know me and le château of my mind (っ˘ڡ˘)っ♨
⍣ i never get caffeinated even after drinking two cups of coffee in less than 10 minutes time gap (i feel like i can pull five cups of coffee in a day and still feel nothing, haven’t tried it yet but i’m pretty confident). it is probably because i have been having lattes, not that tiny yet deadly shots of espresso or proper drip coffee. i normally have one instant coffee and low-calorie sweetener dissolve in small amount of hot water, then put some ice cubes, and at last, pour the pricey-but-hard-to-resist oat milk on it cause we need to balance that less than a dollar grinded coffee with a five dollars milk. believe me, this simple recipe creates a decent typa coffee. it does taste so good and addicting but it doesn’t kick in, i need something stronger which means more acidity and bitterness that i don’t think my tummy is ready for a level up yet. i’m saying this all as if i’m in a person who needs a specific dose of caffeine per day to get their busy business life done lol wrong person *cough cough*. but no, i adore coffee and its caffeine on behalf of dopamine and antioxidant. i also do have a very special coffee buddy whom i cherish the most. we have paired our lattes with an interesting range of food, we went from cakes/cookies to instant noodles. we literally have everything with our lattes. i wish we can go out more and do cafes hopping to explore all the coffee recipes that exist. anyway, y’all better drink water more than coffee, we can’t deny the fact that it’s 100000 times healthier and more important than that colored drinks.
⍣ i am an aries, yup, “the leader” of all the signs, the hard to get, the dominating, the chaser, the independent, mr/ms. confident, the headstrong type of personality, and the list goes on. frankly, i don’t always feel like i own those natures, it feels like i lean more toward the soft and emotional kind of aries. i can be as indecisive as a libra, sometimes confidence doesn’t seem to be my strong suit, i can’t always say what’s on my mind like most of the aries i know seem to be really good at, i tend to put myself on other’s shoes, i think too much than i act, there were numbers of argument i lost because i chose to breakdown and cry rather than defense myself, i can be as gossipy as gemini. just like many aries, i do have a perfection side but it often leads to me being angry and depressed about it. they said, aries is the type of person who is strong and reliable, i might seen as one with my appearance and how i am in my daily life. can’t deny the fact that people see me as a joker, i always make them laugh in any occasion with or without a purpose. i often wonder, am i doing it because they expect me to do so or is there even a possibility that i am a natural joker? hate to break it to you, i don’t think so, it is true that deep down, i am a wreck, i am lost, i am scared, i do not know what to do. the future i once had a clear vision of seems blurry right now. i need someone to wake up the real sleeping aries in me, she must know how to face a situation like this with such grace and poise. anyway, sorry for turning this into a journal but it will eventually just so you know ;)
⍣ let’s get into the real business, i will use this space to post reviews about movies and tv shows (mostly on netflix and disney+) have watched that leave strong impressions on me. it actually will be rewritten from the reviews i have done on my instagram. most of them posted in close friends, and please note that i have a really really small circle, that’s why i’m planning to re-post them on this platform so it will be more accessible. since i am a full-time fangirl, i will also be liking, re-blogging and might be posting everything about my favorite artists, be it holywood peeps, kpop or cpop idols (mostly wang yibo and xiao zhan)!!
thank you for coming to my ted talk. please check out my blog regularly for the new updates! take care my loves and be happy! see you latte(r)! <3
#first point seems fun and all then 2nd point shows up in all goth#im thinking of my dear latte as im writing this#yup no time for self-reflection#why go to therapy when you have your latte#quarter life crisis in a nutshell

To the people hating on Wang Yibo for not "speaking up" for Xiao Zhan ...
Some things to consider (and I'm saying this all as a Xiao Zhan fan myself):
- People made awful assumptions about Xiao Zhan for not saying anything after the AO3 incident -- if you defended him then but are trashing WYB now ... doesn't that make you a hypocrite?
- While I do love all the industry people rushing to his defense, XZ himself said in an interview that he doesn't argue with critics, but rather considers what they have to say, as there's usually some value in it. He also seems averse to confronting people online. Don't you think there’s at least some chance that WYB might be respecting XZ's feelings on this? (Don't YOU? Or would you run roughshod over his feelings and defend him even if he specifically asked you not to?)
- WYB doesn't strike me as the type to care about the Golden Brooms, and therefore might consider the outcome to be beneath his notice. Honestly, the best thing you can do with bullies like the creators of the Golden Brooms is to ignore them, since what they want is attention -- that's the whole point of those awards, isn't it? "Looks at me and what I think! My opinions matters! Look as I drag people down and tell hem they suck just because I say so!" Nah, bro, nobody needs that kind of noise. To defend against it is to actually give it power / value. I appreciate the desire to defend Xiao Zhan, but I also see a lot of value in treating it the Golden Brooms -- or Xiao Zhan’s haters in general -- like they’re nothing.
- Tearing down WYB / encouraging people to hate him tears down The Untamed, which tears down XZ. Look at what XZ haters did to attack him -- lowering the rating of The Untamed, which affects all involved, There’s no “winning” in this action. And dammit, if you’re a fan of The Untamed, we’re all on the same side! Unless someone from the cast and crew does something HEINOUS, like being racist or sexually harassing, support them ALL! (Or at least don’t *drag* them.)
- I've seen some of the people who are calling out WYB for not sticking up for XZ, also insist that XZ and WYB aren't actually friends, saying people are reading too much into things between them. Well, which is it? If they aren't friends, why do you care if WYB speaks up or not? For that matter, why SHOULD he?
- As near as I can tell, XZ and WYB haven't been going for the same roles -- they AREN’T rivals! And even if they have or eventually do compete for a role here and there, there are plenty of roles for them both! A lot of friends in Hollywood have gone up for the same part, and are still friends! It’s ridiculously paranoid to think that WYB has orchestrated any sort of coup against someone he obviously got along well with and will likely cross paths with in the future. What has he done that suggests he’s at all vindictive, much less to to that insane of a level?
- And lastly, XZ constantly speaks of love, positivity, and being better. He encourages his fans to be their best, and not cause problems for others. Do you think XZ would *want* us to speak ill of *anyone* on his behalf, much less his friend? Are you really his fan if you're not taking his request for us to behave well to heart, and acting with kindness and compassion, instead of making negative assumptions about a person or situation with NO evidence?
Not speaking isn't "evidence" of anything when you don't know WHY he hasn't. There could be a MILLION reasons why WYB isn't saying anything -- and frankly, NONE of them are our business. If you truly love and respect XZ, ACT with respect towards WYB, whether they are friends or not, because that's what Xiao Zhan would do! For fuck’s sake, there’s enough hate swirling around -- please stop adding to it! LOVE, NOT HATE

Chapter 29 of Pocketful of Soul is up, and as a treat to myself, I commissioned @procoffeinating to do two pictures. The first was Mo Xuanyu with the ghosts of the Wen Remnants and was stunning. This one made me cry.
Image description: Lan Wangji (recognizable as the version from The Untamed as played by Wang Yibo) sits in a sunbeam in a clearing in a dark forest in Qinghe, playing guqin to a group of spirits he is putting to rest, while wearing A-Yuan, asleep, on his back in a traditional Chinese baby carrier.
This type of carrier is a red square of cloth with straps on all four corners. In the image we can see the straps coming forward over LWJ's shoulders and under his arms, gathered together in a twist/knot on his chest.
The infant (about six months old) has very fat cheeks and a few strands of hair caught in his hand. The spirits are translucent, colorless, faded, and listening intently. Lan Wangji glows, both with the sunbeam's light and spiritual energy.
The greenery is lush and vivid where the sun strikes it. End Image Description
So, the assignment I gave Procoffeinating was almost exactly that image description. Literally the day before the draft was sent to me (draft, ha, it was almost exactly this finished!) I'd spent some time seeing what I could get out of Dall-E for a similar prompt. Honestly? while the results were hilarious and disturbing, I regret NOTHING about paying Procoffeinating to get the exact image I wanted.
For comparison, here's what Dall-E generated.
I'm so sorry. And no, I don't think Procoffeinating has anything to worry about in terms of competition.
Speaking of which: This fanfic is a prompt fill for Fandom Trump Hate, and raised money for the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund. I also decided to help support two artists by commissioning works. I'd like them to get more support, because while I paid with bonuses to both artists for doing such a good, comprehensive job with my requests, both can use more support.
Also, I really want to do more art for this story. It could have art between scene breaks, or for each chapter, or for the various talismans. And I'd really like to raise more money to support things I care about.
SO... If you want to see more art for this story beyond what is already commissioned/done by me, here's what you can do:
Donate to any of the charities supported by Fandom Trumps Hate and let me know how much you donated.
Donate to @procoffeinating's Kofi! Let me know how much you sent!
Buy things from @melomelany_art's redbubble and let me know how much you spent!
Donate to any organization supporting refugees, Ukrainian or otherwise, and let me know! (My own grandfather was a Ukranian Jewish refugee a century ago.)
Donate to any organization FTH has supported in the past, and let me know!
If you tell me you donated and how much, I'll make sure there's more art. Donate $50 or more, and up to the point I can afford it, I'll commission more art from either these artists or another queer artist in need, matching your donation.
Even $3 kofi donations will get art, such as a small, font-based decoration between chapters, or an adaptation of talisman art I've already done. Larger donations might get character portraits. Donate a couple hundred to any of the above, and I'll get another painting done!
This is for new donations.

VIDEO: China will release this year its air force film in the "Top Gun" style
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/23/2022 - 12:00 PM in Military
In mid-August, the official Weibo account of the Chinese film "Born to Fly" made its first post, announcing the release of the film later this year and listing the cast and production team.
With boy band artist Wang Yibo and experienced dramatic actor Hu Jun in the lead roles, the fifteen-second teaser prepares the viewer for a story inspired by the test pilots of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) on their test flights of China's most advanced J-20 poaching and the latest Flanker models manufactured in the country.
Lei Yu (Wang Yibo), in a frozen cockpit.
"To take our planes to the limit, you must first break your own," says the narration, since test pilot Lei Yu (played by Wang) is trapped in the cockpit of the test plane under sub-zero temperatures and then high temperatures are subjected to the fuselage by the test chamber.
youtube
In the next scene, we see the actors enter the cockpit of a real J-20 and cut to an outlet during a low passage. In the promotional poster of the film, the crew poses behind the J-20 "Powerful Dragon", which has a dominant presence in the feature film.
The production of the film was assisted by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, the state aerospace conglomerate behind much of the Chinese air force, in a reflection of the relationship between the Pentagon and Hollywood in film production in the U.S., which produces films with plots that improve the public image of the U.S. Department of Defense in foreign and domestic markets, in
Another poster of the film's promotion shows PLAAF's J-20.
However, previous Chinese films produced with the government's cooperation had an unoptimistic reception outside the domestic market. Despite this, the Chinese domestic market has been more than receptive to production.

It might be for the best 10cent decides to delay Oath of Love. I can only imagine the effect it has on BXGs lol so afraid of kissing scenes. It's them who cannot survive CEnt at this points. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo will have hundreds of kissing scenes. Thousands maybe for Xiao Zhan since Oath of Love alone has secured 50 kisses. I bet they'll have sex scenes too int the future (implicit probably). They have tons projects since they're still young. Poor insecure BXGs and their fragile hearts.
BXG hearts will never be as fragile as the hearts of solos, who still can't bear to accept the massive transformative role CQL has played in both of their careers and in both of their lives. There is nothing more insecure than a solo writing to a BXG blog, for example, trying to stir up some sort of fanwar over a young and inexperienced reader who has written in.
You obviously missed my answer, which would be the answer of the vast majority of BXG. We understand acting is acting. The real romance happens behind the scenes - those undeniable moments of deep affection between GG and DD that solos are so defensive about 3 years after filming.
I don't know whether you're a bo bo shrimp (most likely) or a zan zan cat, but I recommend you stay in your own lane.

god please tell us more about who you think Lan Wangji is! How does 16years change him? Is he marble on purpose or is it nature? Will he thaw fully ever do you think?
man oh man oh man... where to begin with my thoughts on Lan Wangji...
so I’ve talked about his speech patterns, speculated on his childhood competitiveness, gone way too deep on his microexpressions, watched him lose the love of his life more times than I can count; I’ve translated his thinly-veiled love letters, his roasts, his flirtations dialogue. I’ve lost count of how much ink I’ve spilled over Lan Wangji, online in meta and offline in fic, but there’s something about him that keeps making me think more, and more, about how incredible of a person/character he really is
he is also the character that I find most terrifying, but more on that later
let me start off by talking about a trope that, nine times out of ten, I detest: the Ice Queen. Most of the time, I hate it because I often see it as the result of a male author who just doesn’t know how to write women, and the deployment of the Ice Queen trope becomes this cheap way to maintain the allure and unattainability of the love interest until your scrappy protagonist manages to thaw her heart through a combination of questionable charm and inability to take no for an answer, and it turns out in the end that all she truly wanted was a man to break down all of her defenses and heal her past trauma with his supremely average protagonist powers... et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
But sometimes, I come around to really loving a particular rendition of the Ice Queen archetype, and it’s usually when the show doesn’t treat the character’s Ice Queen-qualities as something that has to be overcome with the Power of Lurv. Rather, this character is an Ice Queen because it’s just who they are, and that’s just fine. Their frostiness and aloofness are worthy parts of their personality that doesn’t need to be thawed out or changed just to fulfill a particular expectation or fantasy.
One of my favorite things about watching a friend go through the whole CQL Experience (TM) is their changing views on Wang Yibo’s portrayal of Lan Wangji -- I think most, if not all, of us start out at “okay deadpan, do you actually know how to emote?” and then twenty-eight episodes later go “oh my god it’s the wide-eyed microexpression of concern, please help I am a puddle of emotions on the floor.” Crucially, what changes isn’t necessarily Wang Yibo’s performance, or Lan Wangji’s expressiveness -- it’s how we all come to learn this character, to pick up on his tics and habits and microexpressions.
In short, we come to know him, and we realize that the Ice Queen is very much an archetype that resides in the perception of said character. Sometimes, we’re fortunate enough to reside in a narrative that supports the understanding that the work of Defrosting an Ice Queen isn’t work that the Ice Queen themselves should have to do -- a character doesn’t have to change themselves to fit whatever mold popular opinion thinks they should. Lan Wangji doesn’t need to be rehabilitated or socialized in any way to fit societal expectations. He’s just fine the way he is, thank you very much.
But damn if that isn’t so desperately, heart-numbingly lonely.
Is it any wonder, how swiftly and deeply Lan Wangji falls in love with Wei Wuxian, if Wei Wuxian is the first person in years to actually try and learn the language of Lan Wangji? Because no matter how cold and perfect and invulnerable he may seem, he’s still a living, breathing human being -- one that fears, one that loves, one that hurts, one that wants. But the world doesn’t see that -- the world sees only Hanguang-jun, the bearer of light, the vanquisher of chaos, war hero, living legend. He’s unapproachable, unattainable, untouchable. And even before the Sunshot Campaign, he’s one of the Twin Jades of Gusu Lan, an unforgiving hand of discipline, a cold look and a silent demeanour. Others have always seen him as so high and aloof that they’ve never actually tried to reach out to him, never actually tried to get through and speak to the person behind the reputation.
Lan Wangji makes his peace with that before the story even begins, accepts a life of quiet isolation and meditation and cultivation. He works on perfecting himself, lays the foundation for all of those skills that the world will praise him for in the future, and does not hope that he will meet someone who understands him. He has his brother, and that is enough.
Until Wei Wuxian comes crashing headlong through the neatly-ordered patterns of Lan Wangji’s world, tangles the linearity of cause and effect, frustrates the binary of forbidden and permitted, until Lan Wangji isn’t sure which way is which anymore, what is wrong, what is right, what is black, what is white...
I have written so damn much about wangxian, and how this relationship affects Lan Wangji, but I also think a lot about Lan Wangji in the absence of Wei Wuxian -- Lan Wangji before he ever met Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji during those sixteen years, Lan Wangji who looks at soulmate he fought so hard to protect and still says I’m going that way, a different direction from one of the only people in the world who have ever listened closely enough to hear the melody of his heart. I’ve written about the principle of 问心无愧 wenxinwukui, of asking one’s heart and finding no regret, and it’s something that drives Lan Wangji just as much as it drives Wei Wuxian -- even more so, sometimes. From the moment Wei Wuxian meets Lan Wangji, he seems a man made of marble, made of ice, made of light -- other-worldly, ethereal, unstained by the dust of this mortal realm. Even at sixteen, Lan Wangji walks through the world with a surety of step and a confidence of motion that is absolutely astounding and profoundly enviable. He makes decisions with an incisive swiftness that baffles the rest of us who have to pause, to take a few minutes and think, weigh options, ask for advice, then decide.
Not so with Lan Wangji -- if he wants to do something, he will. If he doesn’t, he won’t. If Lan Wangji listens to you and judges you boring, he’ll let you know. If Lan Wangji decides that something isn’t worth his time, he walks out.
If he decides that you are worth fighting for, then he will follow you down a single-plank bridge into the dark and fight the world for you.
I played myself, because I made an offhand comment in the tags on this lovely piece of art that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about:
how did you already know the melody of your heart at sixteen, Lan Wangji? How did you know?
What is it like, to have such a powerful, unshakeable conviction in the righteousness of your actions that you’ll carve it into your own body, you’ll willingly accept the heaviest punishment in the memory of your sect, that the only regret you’ll have is that you didn’t make the same decision earlier? What is it like to have a faith so strong that you’ll burn all of your bridges on the steps of a place far away from your home, before a gathered crowd of everyone you’ve ever known? What is it like to know yourself so well and to be fearless enough to do what your heart tells you to, and damn the consequences?
This is what fascinates me and terrifies me the most about Lan Wangji -- his sureness of movement, the solidity of his faith. Lan Wangji is that Peggy Carter quote, the tree who will not move, the river-sunken stone, so set and solid where it has come to rest that all the force of a spring snowmelt has no choice but to part around its will.
This isn’t to say that Lan Wangji doesn’t have doubts, that he doesn’t deal with conflict and setbacks and regrets and mistakes, because he does -- thirteen or sixteen years of it, no matter what version of his story, Lan Wangji endures over a decade of purgatory, of watching his life slip slowly back into grayscale in the absence of Wei Wuxian. He settles back into the life that he knew he would live at sixteen -- cultivating, meditating, night-hunting -- packs away all of those terrifying hopes and dreams and joys and fears left behind in the wreckage from the whirlwind of Wei Wuxian tearing through his life. He doesn’t move on, per se -- if there’s one thing we know about Lan Wangji, it’s that he’ll never move on from Wei Wuxian -- but he builds a life out of the ruins of what could have been. He teaches the juniors. He watches over A-Yuan, now Lan Yuan, now Sizhui. He brings light to dark places; he brings order to chaos. He goes where he is needed, because there will always be a need for someone like Lan Wangji, because even if Wei Wuxian is no longer in this world, Lan Wangji will live their principles for both of them, fulfill a vow entrusted to a floating lantern --
to eliminate the wicked and aid the weak,
to ask one’s heart and find no regret.
#listen I really really love Lan Wangji#this is maybe like a quarter of the thoughts I have on him#the other three quarters are refusing to be articulated in words#but trust me when I say that the more I think about him the more I realize how good he is#I feel like we often talk about Wei Wuxian outside the context of wangxian but it happens a little less with Lan Wangji#and I am all for discussing characters and their complexity outside the lens of their romantic relationships#tonight words are hard so I'm going to leave this here#ask and ye shall receive#Lan Wangji#Wei Wuxian

CQL Rewatch - Episode 4
Okay, it’s been a hot minute since I was able to get to watching this episode, but here we go!
Great intro. Remember last time how Lan Wangji got to pick Wei Wuxian’s punishment? Well, it seems that Wei Wuxian was up late into the night working on transcribing and, surprise! he’s not done. And unless I’m mistaken, he’s actually spent days doing this, because when they first arrived, the salute ceremony was ten days away, and here we see Wei Wuxian is almost late for it. So by this point, I’d expect Wei Wuxian to have some serious hand cramps from all that calligraphy.
While I enjoy this comical moment and introduction to Nie Huaisang, I have to wonder why he thought bringing a bird into the salute ceremony was a good idea. Birds make noise—they tweet, flap their wings, try to escape cages! Anyway, it’s a goofy moment, but we got some cute expressions out of Xiao Zhan and some disdainful looks from Wang Yibo, so I can’t complain.
Xiao Zhan does a really good job of looking very young here at the beginning: his mannerisms, his facial expressions, how he carries himself, all really creates this feeling of being young and carefree. On the other side, Wang Yibo (who is six years younger than Xiao Zhan) does an equally good job of portraying someone more severe, mature, elitist. Lan Wangji has a reputation for being above people—for creating an aura that implies other people aren’t worth his time. In fact, he doesn’t even have any friends, as we found out in the last episode.
Wangxian really suit each other, even before they know each other at all: Wei Wuxian has this light, carefree nature to his character, while Lan Wangji’s is darker, more austere.
First of all, those fuckers. Gossiping about his lineage in full earshot of not only Jin Guangyao but also Jin Zixuan. This poor guy has practically clawed his way up to where he is, only to be an attendant to a clan that he has no blood relation to. His own father refuses to acknowledge him, his mother is gone, and these jerks gossiping—ugh! Hate it, regardless of who he grows to be later on in the series.
I really love Jin Guangyao and seeing how he changes from beginning to end is honestly a delight to watch. Like most of the characters, he seems so pure, so simple, such a kind person, and his relationship with Lan Xichen is something that you can’t devote enough time to. I think it gets shortchanged a little, but they only had 50 episodes, so I’ll take what I can get. Even in the book, I was left wanting to know more and see more about them (but I wouldn’t trade my wangxian content for that, so I guess I shouldn’t complain).
Last thing I want to say is, DIMPLES! Look at those adorable dimples!!
This is so insane—he literally set this guy on fire! How can he get away with this?! Anyway, enter Draco Malfoy—I mean, Wen Chao. Ahem. This series wants to throw a lot of villains at you right away: we already have Wen Ruohan, Xue Yang, potentially Wen Qing (we don’t know at this point), and now we have Wen Chao. They’re really pushing the Wen Clan is bad agenda. And as if being generally rude and probably mentally unstable isn’t bad enough, Wen Chao literally sets fire to one of the Gusu Lan Clan disciples, while the other disciple basically does nothing about it (why is that guy so useless? Doesn’t he have some spiritual energy to throw at that magic fire?).
Wen Chao is one of those characters that I think most people love to hate. He’s so evil, so horrible, yet charming, in a way. He is a villain and he’s proud of it, y’know? There’s no ambiguity here about his actions, which is kind of refreshing in a series filled with grey characters (and I love grey characters, don’t get me wrong).
Oh! And I just noticed while I was saving that screenshot that Wen Ning can’t even look at what’s going on. Very accurate to his character—non-confrontational, just wants to float along and do as he’s told. Really shows he’s under the thumb of the Wen Clan. I also like how Wen Qing is the one to put out the flames. You get to see that healer side of her early on.
Jiang Cheng and I had the same expression here—I really wanted to know what their gift to Lan Qiren was. If this is something in the book, well, then I’ve forgotten. Wei Wuxian and I have that trait in common: bad memory.
LWJ: Bro, can I hit him?
LXH: Nah, bro.
I missed this on my first viewing—or just forgot, most likely. Lan Wangji is so poised and collected, but also so defensive. He’s the brother who will be the first to go on the offensive if he sees something wrong happening, which I love. But I also love Lan Xichen’s chill attitude—yes, this guy is clearly a troublemaker, and he’s dissing our clan, but let’s settle this in an adult manner. According to the wiki, Lan Xichen is only a few years older than Lan Wangji, but you can see that he is a lot more mature in just those few years. Like I said in the last episode, he kind of had to be a parent to his younger brother and set an example of how you should behave. Of course, he’s also the clan leader, so he can’t really act like a spitfire.
Of course, if anyone is more defensive than Lan Wangji, it’s Wei Wuxian. Even though Lan Wangji has been a bit of a pain in the ass to him, Wei Wuxian still rushes to their defense. Even this early on, he’s started to form an attachment to the Gusu Lan Clan, whether he’s really aware of it or not. I’m wearing my wangxian goggles, but the “you offended the Jiang Clan because my brother was in the middle of his salute” kind of feels like an afterthought.
But of course it’s in Wei Wuxian’s character to be heroic like this—to rush to the defense of others, whether it’s asked for or not, and I don’t get the feeling that Lan Wangji disapproves of this. I think he takes note of this and future events, adding it to what he’s compiled of what makes Wei Wuxian tick. And by this time, I think he’s also decided to give Wei Wuxian another chance—Lan Xichen has planted the seed in his mind that he could be a good friend to Lan Wangji.
I know he’s not supposed to be gay.
I know.
But…come on. The way he’s looking at Lan Xichen right now—it’s a look certainly of deep admiration and respect. And there’s not a hint of jealously either, even though Jin Guangyao has every reason to be jealous of Lan Xichen: the respect he commands is great—he can even subdue the Wen Clan. But instead of hating Lan Xichen, Jin Guangyao instead becomes close friends with him, very much a parallel to Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian. Fascinating! These characters are so rich—so many layers, so much to talk about!
The first time I watched this, I was so annoyed with Nie Huaisang—any additional scenes that were added just drove me crazy. But now, having watched it all, I actually really appreciate these moments of comic relief, even the ones that are unique to CQL. As the series progresses, it gets darker and darker, and these lighter moments are honestly precious when you know what’s coming.
Someone explain to me why Jiang Yanli is making soup when meals are being provided to them? Yes, we know she takes care of her brothers, but why is it always her making soup? This is the first of many soup scenes, and at a certain point, it’s like beating a dead horse. I actually would have appreciated a little scene of them eating Gusu Lan Clan food and getting to see Wei Wuxian complain about it. I wouldn’t mind a disapproving look from Lan Wangji at overhearing it either.
Yeah, remember when I was saying Lan Wangji was taking note of the good things Wei Wuxian did? Well, he’s also very aware of how naughty he is. At the beginning, Wei Wuxian’s good traits are heavily outweighed by his transgressions, though, by comparison, they are minor ones. It’s ironic that later on Lan Wangji will overlook major transgressions without a second thought. Shows what a deep relationship they are able to cultivate.
I feel like, in a way, this is Wei Wuxian’s way of apologizing for offending him earlier—like, I’m being cute, Lan Zhan! Obviously it only makes Lan Wangji more annoyed, but it’s the thought that counts, right? Wei Wuxian is really testing boundaries here. He has such a fixation on Lan Wangji, one that definitely annoys Jiang Cheng (and makes him jealous to boot, in my opinion), but it works to his advantage, since Lan Wangji can’t really keep his eyes off of Wei Wuxian either. And the circumstances that follow just keep drawing them together.
After Wei Ying gets told to leave the lecture and go to the Library Pavilion, he doesn’t look at anyone except Lan Wangji. I wonder if he wants to know Lan Wangji’s reaction—is it disappointment, anger, something else? Whatever it is, he wants Lan Wangji’s attention—that’s what he seeks above anything else. You could argue that he doesn’t look at Jiang Cheng or Jiang Yanli because he knows they’re disappointed or upset with him, and I think that’s fair. And maybe he doesn’t seek their attention because he knows he has it—but he doesn’t feel like he’s gotten Lan Wangji’s attention here and that bothers him.
