It's very fun how the Planeswalker's Guide to Bloomburrow played around with the difference between in-universe knowledge and audience knowledge in the story of Lily of Valley - using language very familiar to those aware of Magic lore to very strongly imply something, but without ever directly stating it because those recounting the story don't have that knowledge.
Possibly my favorite part is the specific term, a perfectly Bloomburrow synonym for one more well established in Magic: a Seed of Flame, the core source from which a fire emerges and grows.
In other words, a spark.
I love the way this plot point fits so snugly in both the lore of Bloomburrow, a world young in magic and isolated in history, and the lore of the broader multiverse: Lily of Valley was a culture hero, a powerful weaver who drove back the forces of nature themselves, carving out a home above ground for all the Valley folk forever after. She was also a planeswalker, the ignition of her spark giving her the power to drastically reshape her world to her liking. One story spelled out, one written between the lines.
I just think it's neat.
#mtg#magic the gathering#magic story#she's almost certainly long dead given mouse lifespans so it wouldn't surprise me if this never gets *hard*-confirmed#but like. look at the last sentence of that first paragraph. that is *exactly* the way a spark and its ignition are described.#in conclusion Lily of Valley planeswalker card for MH4 pls
