They’ve been walking long enough that the silence between them was approaching a chafing heaviness — thick and far less tolerable than even Wheatley’s worst prattling. This close to the surface the sunlight is starting to slat through portions of wall that had began to crumble up in the chamber corners. Maybe it’s the warmth that emboldens Wheatley to open his big stupid mouth.
“ ... m’ sorry about, uh, all that. Back there. Th' whole bein’-a-robot thing.” The silence has a few seconds to settle again.
“Oh. And the gunfire, too. Right mess, that was.”
