I know that emma and ray most likely don’t mean anything else by it, but the consensus here seems to be that being the “caretaker” of the group is somehow less (?) than being the ones going outside to gather information or search for food. At the very least, from my understanding don and Gilda feel this way. This is probably just me nitpicking and maybe I’m even reading this all wrong, but I just really wanted to point out that, while it is obviously more dangerous to go outside, the role of caretaker is by no means any less important. Gilda and don are not “reliable” ONLY because of the prison break. They are reliable because they always try to do their best. They are not “just” caretakers. They took on the role of caretakers, period. And they are not going to “stand alongside” Emma and ray ONLY from this point on by going outside. They have always stood alongside them by taking care of everyone else, among other things. For example:
And as we’ve seen from the previous chapter, they also have human enemies who have been trying to find their hideout:
Had their enemies, no matter human or demon, discovered the shelter while Emma and ray were out, it would have been up to don and Gilda to protect the rest of the kids as well. This is also why they ultimately decided on having Yuugo stay instead, now that he’s on the same side:
It’s probably not that deep and again, I’m probably just nitpicking. But language matters, and I just don’t like it when Gilda and don kind of look down on themselves or on what they’ve done for their family, even if they do this subconsciously. They’ve always given every task their all, and that is admirable.
