#in an alternative universe joel and tess moved in right next to bill and frank

i’m kind of obsessed with the parallels between frank and tess. both optimists despite the apocalypse. tess’ “i never asked you for anything” and frank’s “do i ask for things? ever?” them being the ones to first reach out to each other on the radio, trusting each other despite the odds. them being the ones happy at the lunch party and then them being the ones to fight to maintain a friendship despite joel and bill’s grumblings. bill protects frank like joel protects tess.

except frank got to live in a mostly peaceful environment and tess had to live in the QZ. frank got to stay soft and tess had to harden herself to survive. tess went from “we’re decent people” to “we’re not good people.” joel didn’t open up to her like bill did to frank.

she was SO happy when she was having lunch with her friends out in a sunny lawn, drinking wine and having peace. but that was frank’s life, not hers.
