YOU GET IT!!!! he would ABSOLUTELY feign innocence to get dean closer to him. “oh i’ve never done bowling/darts/pool before you have to teach me dean 🥺” and so dean is right up behind him, showing him how to hold the ball/dart/cue while right behind him, pressed against him and whispering in cas’ ear.

and a fic that does really well on the “hey cas actually DOES know pop culture!” is Talk Some Sense To Me (Kenopsia) by @imyourhoneybeespn (and i will NEVER stop talking about this fic because it is my Favorite in the world) where dean and cas are watching legally blonde (at claire’s request) and cas recites the “I’m taking the dog, dumbass” line as it happens. it’s a very sweet moment and it highlights exactly the point of him knowing some stuff after a certain time!

i hate hate HATE when fics pose cas as a timid wittle baby who doesn’t know anything about the human world. HE’S THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD AND HAS BEEN OBSERVING EARTH FOR GENERATIONS. sure, he might not understand all the pop culture references, BUT HE’S NOT CLUELESS ABOUT EVERYTHING. STOP BABYING HIS CHARACTER. HE IS MURDEROUS AT POINTS AND CAN KILL W THE FLICK OF HIS WRIST AND WILL COMMAND RESPECT AND PUT DEAN ON HIS KNEES IN AN ALLEYWAY.

While watching "Big sky" with Jensen Ackles, I saw so many Supernatural references in this show. Whether he double-checks an FBI ID, gives his female friend Cassie (...) for her move in a new house a bucket of salt with "prevention is better" kind of lines, his partner is dressing with THE Led Zeppelin T-shirt we fanfic readers knew as well from ImYourHoneyBee's "Best to see these true colors..." . There is a muscle car in this one episode a dead former partner, and an article about "Beau" (Jensen) moaning over his death. (This was kicking me most 🥺) And the most fascinating thing: Zero love interest at all!! 

Big sky season 3 is worth looking at. Especially for Supernatural fans or anybody, ‘cause Jensen Ackles is an excellent actor and a funny one too 😉

The djinn kidnap Dean to use as bait to lure Cas back to their Queen. Big mistake. --- “Come and get it,” Dean snarls, jabbing the pitchfork forward at gut level. All he has to do is hurt them badly enough that he can get away. It galls him to run from a fight, but self-preservation is a hell of a motivator. He needs to get back to the bunker. He has to warn Cas, has to protect him from his wife. “We’re going to have to put you to sleep,” the djinn tells him, almost disappointed. “Been there, done that,” Dean grunts, jabbing at the second djinn when he tries to lunge forward, using his companion’s words as a distraction. “Didn’t even get a t-shirt, so you can go fuck yourself.” “She will allow you to visit the angel.” This time it’s the male trying to reason with him, hands held out almost placatingly, “We are not heartless.” “Oh,” Dean says sarcastically. “Sure, yeah, that makes using my - using Cas as some kind of stud ok then.” Both djinn have the audacity to nod at him. “No, you freaky-looking dicks, that’s not happening.” 

I will forever love this fandom because it will always deliver a story to fill in the blank on an incredible possible storyline that canon deprived us of. This fic is a perfect example. If you’re unfamiliar with THE Episode, “Scoobynatural”, in a throwaway line, we learn that in order to obtain an ingredient in a spell they need, Cas goes to Syria, and somehow marries the Queen of the Djinn’s with little other explanation, leaving us to fill in the blanks of how it came about and the fallout when his boy bestie finds out. 

In Overthinking Barns, two Djinn minions snatch Dean up, hell-bent on using him as bait to lure Cas back to his wife, knowing he would never come on his own without the proper motivation. Needless to say, Dean doesn’t exactly appreciate this idea. And neither does Cas when he pieces together what’s going on. 

This fic is short and sweet, seeming longer as the POV switches back and forth between Dean as he’s being taken, and Cas as he’s figuring it out. This fic also provides another huge oversight on canon’s part, which is having Cas drive the Impala at least once. It also provides us with a healthy serving of bamf!Cas, which we all need every once in a while. Seal it with a Destiel first kiss and you’ve got the makings of a great fic. Don’t miss it!

On a similar note, psalm 40:2 is a great pre-series Dean, future-Cas fic. I am a bi Dean believer but this fic did sway me toward the gay Dean camp because it’s simply so good.

On a different note, this is one of my favorite Claire fics. It looks at Claire’s relationship with Cas and the impossibility of it, and it’s so artfully done.

Bus Loop Madness by batz_in_blue

Literally just a “what if everyone lived, Jack was a toddler, and they all picked him up from school?” AU. I audibly laughed while reading this, and it’s an essential pick-me-up from the heavier fics.

More of my favorite sobsicles fics include: gorging myself on you, still can’t get full (insatiable), and he’s back (with a mind of his own), six hundred sundays (and many more), oh sooner or later it all comes down to faith, things happen (they do, they do, and they do), according to all known laws of life, and profoundly bonded (by law)

Cas steps in close, one hand settling on Dean’s hip while he brushes his lips over a spot on the round of his shoulder, then slightly below, to the side, over his shoulder blade, the nape of his neck, up over to his other shoulder where he stops to draw a circle with his nose. Looking for a distraction and really not wanting to talk about Sam’s big fun magical vacation, Dean says, half joking, “You got a thing for my shoulders, Cas?” Those big blue eyes flicker up to meet his own in the mirror once again, and Cas’s face is a study in careful neutrality, but he knows him well enough to catch the glimmer of guilt in the tightness near his eyes. “Wait, seriously?” “I have a thing for all of you,” Cas mumbles stiffly, and hey, isn’t that sudden shyness an interesting development? 

I saw this fic recced somewhere with the promise of pure fluff and it did not disappoint.

This fic takes place somewhere in canon with Sam doing his own witchy thing with Rowena while Cas and Dean are left to explore their new relationship.

The longer we see about them and the more they discover about themselves, the more we as well as Dean notice Cas' strange fixation with Dean's shoulders.

It's not often we get to read an entire fic dedicated to Dean's freckles, so it was a delight to read this fic and why Cas loves Dean's shoulders, skin, and more specifically his freckles so much.

And as promised, it's pure fluff.

On the other side of the nest, Cas is curled into a tight ball, his tail flipped over his nose like a blanket. Dean wonders if he’s cold too.

It’s dark inside their nest, almost pitch black with how the maple leaves block out the starlight. Cas is nothing but a lump, but Dean bets that if they were lumps together, they’d be warmer. It’s not gay if they’re huddling for warmth, right? It should also be taken into account that they’re squirrels, and he’s pretty sure it’s not gay if they’re squirrels, either.

Dean is suffering because he’d insisted that they be two squirrels sleeping on opposite sides of the nest, five inches apart because they’re not gay.
