EDIT: the following is my opinion on whether the Papas are Italian. Differing opinions welcome and valid.

While I don’t think it’s ever canonically established, given that Tobias is a pop cultural italophile and the majority of catholic popes have been Italian, and Ghost’s lore has it parodying and subverting Catholicism, I think it makes sense that they are.

Besides, I think his accent sounds Italian—more so before Papa Emeritus IV, but even Cardinal Copia sounds very Italian to me.
