lmao young dumb stupid samples frere jacques? that was unexpected haha. i'll get used to it
jyp clearly wanna hop on the y2k trend but like i think it works and tbh i like most of the girl group songs in this trend, so it's a win for me. if i knew more about music theory i could tell you what specific elements theyre incorporating into their sound with this song that make it part of this trend, but i cant really explain it more than just saying it's got that vibe haha. idk. it's kinda dreamlike? this song isnt especially dreamlike, but it's got elements that are dreamlike in other songs. it doesnt do that 100%, but that's fine. yeah idk it's good
people say that it's nwjns influence but i think this trend started before them. they were a reaction to the trend, not the cause of it. more groups might be adopting it because of their success, but it's not like theyre copying them or anything. this isnt new lol.
but yeah i think with groups like nmixx and xg adopting elements of this sound and aesthetic, it's a major sign that it's a huge trend right now. but unlike the massive disco trend in kpop a couple years ago, i like most of the songs haha
#disco got very old very fast#imo the only one that really rose above the trend and was amazing was gfriend mago because it didnt rely on its disco-ness#it was dark and mysterious and stuff. they never once said ''we're going disco style!'' or anything like that in the lyrics lmao#it wasnt ABOUT disco... that was just a backdrop#the song would still have worked if it was re-produced to not have any disco influence#anyway as for this y2k trend... i like the majority of the new songs with it! i feel like theyve all brought something creative to the table
