Experts say high immigration levels will fix the labour market in Canada   Experts agree that while Canada's plan to amplify its immigration numbers may help alleviate some economic strain, more significant improvements are necessary to accurately ensure the labour market can fill positions with qualified permanent residents.   Unprecedentedly low unemployment rates have left companies desperate for workers, and fresh immigrants will aid in alleviating this predicament, according to Ravi Jain,   co-founder of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association.   The federal government plans to welcome 1.45 million additional permanent residents over the next three years, with 465,000 newcomers in 2023 and 500,000 in 2025.   #Immigration_levels, #labour_shortage, #foreign_workers, #PR   https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/canada-s-immigration-increase-alone-won-t-fix-the-labour-market-experts-say-1.6255154   https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/sean-fraser-immigration-numbers-1.6712766 (at Winnipeg, Manitoba) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoaFIm4rT6D/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

2022 was a unique year for Canada’s Express Entry immigration system The all-program draws were on pause for the opening six months of 2022 and then resumed for five more months until a technical issue caused them to be suspended once again. Only late 2022 showed signs of the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) application backlog being reduced significantly. After seven years of steady growth since the system’s inception in 2015, this was the first year that saw a complete halt. That being said, it is only provisional as record immigration levels have been forecasted for the coming three years and are expected to increase to 500,000 annually by 2025. Consequently, Express Entry will likely come back with greater vigour in 2023 when Canada attempts to battle its constant labour shortages. #Express_Entry, #IRCC, #glitch, #immigration_levels (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmzMqz2L_YC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Canada will not repeat TR2PR pathway draws in 2022   After the recent announcement of immigration levels, Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), answered questions about the TR2PR pathway.   In April 2022, Canada announced a new pathway, enabling existing temporary residents and workers to convert to permanent residents.   The immigration minister stated that the current immigration levels plan did not include the TR2PR pathway repeating, which was designed to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.   TR2PR was designed to help Canada reach its immigration goals and support its economic recovery.   #TR2PR, #Immigration_Levels, #Fraser, #IRCC, #Covid_19   https://www.instagram.com/p/CkiwWF7MSFC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Canadian citizens widely support current immigration levels   The latest Focus Canada survey on Canadian attitudes towards immigration shows strong and increasing support for immigration across the board. Except for Quebec, governments, businesses, and other stakeholders have been successful in their demographic and economic arguments.   Even though Canada admits 400,000 newcomers yearly, 70% of Canadians still support current immigration rates - the highest number Environics has seen in 45 years.   The main reason behind this view is that there is now a societal agreement that immigration strengthens the economy and an acknowledgment that more people are needed from other countries to maintain population growth.   #Focus_Canada, #Environics, #survey, #immigration_levels (at Winnipeg, Manitoba) https://www.instagram.com/p/CkQ2tawLwr7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Canada reports on Q1 of immigration numbers   According to the latest RBC report, the increase in the number of immigrants increased the Canadian population by 82,000 in the first quarter.   This is the result of the federal government's vigorous efforts to encourage temporary residents to apply for immigration.   The growth of study permit and post-graduate work permit (PGWP) holders is also a main driving force for the overall population growth. Increasing immigration has always been one of the federal government's strategies to deal with population challenges. Canada’s population is ageing and the birth rate is low.   Without immigrants, Canada’s growth rate would not meet the standards required for population growth.   Approximately 9 million baby boomers will reach retirement age within this decade.   Without newcomers, Canada’s workforce will not be able to remain competitive in the world market, and the pressure to take care of the older generation will fall on the smaller groups of workers.   #immigration_levels, #study_permit, #PGWP, #demographics (at Manitoba, canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CREeSX1nr-u/?utm_medium=tumblr

Canada can increase caps of new temporary immigration pathways   With the introduction of new pathways to permanent residency, Canada will grant permanent residency to 90,000 temporary foreign workers and international student graduates as part of the country’s annual immigration goal. Due to the extensive number of applicants, the pathway for international student graduates reached its caps. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marco Mendicino stated that he is open to discussions about the revision of current caps, which means the government can increase caps to meet the 2021 levels target of 401,000 permanent resident admissions.   #IRCC, #Canadian_experience, #PR, #healthcare, #essential_occupations, #French, #Francophones, #international_students, #international-graduates, #immigration_levels, #immigration_policy (at Manitoba, canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CO-pD1cnyZP/?igshid=il26jv51vz78

Almost 37,500 out of 90,000 applications submitted on the first day of the TR2PR   On May 6, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has launched six new temporary immigration programs aimed at essential workers and international graduates. Despite many technical problems with registration, document uploads, and processing fee payments, the system accepted almost 37,500 out of 90,000 applications. As of 10:30 PM EST, IRCC accepted 508 applications from healthcare workers, 3,845 applications from essential, non-healthcare workers, and 32,293 applications from international graduates. Canada had the smallest population growth in the third quarter this year since 1946   A recent report issued by Statistics Canada shows that in the third quarter of this year, Canada's population growth increased by 2,767, the least growth since 1946. The main reason for the near-zero growth in population was the COVID-19 pandemic, which prompted the Canadian government to impose travel restrictions on international travellers. Consequently, the "travel restrictions" created obstacles for new immigrants to come to land in Canada.   #demography, #population_growth, #COVID_19, #immigration_levels (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJG959BD8Zs/?igshid=g6afamse0f3v

WES released an updated survey about the impact of COVID-19 on the plans to immigrate to Canada   The new survey by the World Education Service (WES) revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic has little impact on the interest of foreign nationals to immigrate to Canada. The survey showed that 48% of prospective immigrants did not change their plans to immigrate to Canada. This is a 2% increase compared to 46% in August and a 10% increase compared to 38% in April. Only 6% of respondents stated they were less interested in coming to Canada now. Only 12% of survey participants indicated the intention to postpone their application for PR and another 12% expressed plans of immigrating to a different country.   #IRCC, #immigration_levels, #WES, #COVID_19 (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHvGQhcj9Kx/?igshid=1ge90729byu37

Canada wants to accept 401,000 new immigrants in 2021 On October 30, 2020, the government of Canada released the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan. Next year, Canada plans to admit 401,000 immigrants, another 411,000 in 2022 and 421,000 in 2023. In its history, Canada has invited more than 400,000 people in 1913 alone. That year 401,000 immigrated to Canada. About 60% of newcomers in 2021 are planned to be invited to economic programs, through the Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program. This year, Canada planned to invite 341,000 immigrants, but due to border closures and the pandemic, that goal will most likely not be reached. Through immigration, Canada is trying to improve the economic situation in a country that has been hit hard by the pandemic. The second major problem is the ageing population. Almost 18% of the population is over 65 and this figure is growing. The birth rate is only 1.47% per woman. Increasing immigration is the response Canada gives to the COVID-19. #immigration_policy, #immigration_levels, #labour_shortage, #ageing_population, #demography, #IRCC (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHF7aQOj4yN/?igshid=ucr92otypimg

THE NEW CANADIAN IMMIGRATION PLAN TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON The shape of Canadian immigration for years to come will be announced soon with a new mandate letter written by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino. This letter will set Canada’s new immigration priorities and it should be released by the end of the month. Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 will outline Canada’s new permanent residence targets over the next three years. In Canada, the prime minister outlines the responsibilities that they would like their respective cabinet members to pursue while the ruling party manages the government. In this case, Trudeau’s mandate letter to Minister Mendicino will guide Mendicino’s efforts to lead the operations of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). #IRCC, #immigration_levels, #immigration_policy https://www.instagram.com/p/CGsU1veDBwY/?igshid=17tqzxon4p0e3

Canadian government adhering to the 1.05 million immigrant goal   According to Bloomberg, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insisted on achieving the goal of attracting 1.05 million new immigrants within three years. However, the Minister of Immigration Canada Marco Mendicino believes that it is difficult to accomplish this goal. In any case, the immigration goals that are not completed in 2020 will be transferred to 2021 and 2022. It is expected that the number of new immigrants to Canada next year will not only create a historical record but may also be an explosive historical record. According to public data, before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in Canada in March 2020, Canada’s original immigration goals were to accept 341,000 newcomers in 2020, 351,000 in 2021, and 361,000 in 2022. The pandemic directly caused the number of new immigrants admitted to being seriously lower than expected. From January to August 2020, only 128,000 new immigrants landed in Canada. According to this ratio, the number of new immigrants landing in 2020 may not reach 200,000. This means that 850,000 or more new immigrants must be introduced in 2021 and 2022 to reach this goal. Bloomberg said that if the Canadian government wants to achieve Trudeau's goals, it must lower immigration thresholds and relax immigration conditions but Mendicino does not think this is a viable plan. Bloomberg's internal sources said that Mendicino's and Trudeau’s opinions are currently divided.   #Trudeau, #Mendicino, #immigration_levels, #immigration_policy (at Winnipeg, Manitoba) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGnUSljjkK2/?igshid=eerm2bpnw56c

Will Canada open its doors for immigration?   It appears that Canada will not open its doors for immigration until early 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic has severely affected Canada's immigration levels in the past months. Some exemptions have been made for permanent resident applicants who had been approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced, close family members of Canadian citizens and/or Canadian permanent residents, and international students with a valid study permit. Refugees and visitors to Canada are some of the categories that are not able to enter Canada. Prior to November 1, the minister of immigration Marco Mendicino must release a new 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, and the experts expect to see the details about how the IRCC is planning to overcome the shortage of immigration.   #IRCC, #immigration_levels, #immigration_policy, #COVID_19 (at Canada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFhkLlaDfZd/?igshid=cdxze385ughw
