Wajahat Ali at The Left Hook:
Elon Musk showed the world that buying the U.S. presidency only costs about $300 million. This is like shopping at The Dollar Store for the world’s richest man. I grudgingly tip my hat to Musk, an immigrant, who is an aficionado of Nazi salutes much like his Hitler-supporting grandparents who moved to South Africa because they were inspired by the Apartheid regime. Musk’s $290 million was a small risk with a massive return on investment. Money alone didn’t move the needle. He also bought Twitter at a loss so he could take over a major social media site and use it to promote misinformation, conspiracy theories, and platform white supremacists and hate-mongers like Tommy Robinson and Nick Fuentes.
He went all-in with Donald Trump after saying he wouldn’t donate to any candidate because he realized Trump is an unethical criminal who would treat the Oval Office like an ATM. It’s all quid pro quo. Donald has returned the favor by allowing Musk to roam free around Mar-a-Lago, join phone calls with world leaders, dine with tech billionaires who bent the knee, and he even publicly thanked him for helping with those “vote counting computers” in Pennsylvania. So far, whatever Musk wants, he gets. Musk decided to torpedo the bipartisan government spending deal via Twitter and Republicans almost shut down the government to appease him. Musk went all-in with H1B visas and referred to MAGA who criticized him as “contemptible fools” and “retards,” and Trump did a 180 on the issue and sided with him.
So, why be content with just the appetizers? Why not raid the fridge and grab everything, including the cake, the cookies, and all the crumbs? Musk has a voracious appetite and the United States of America as his “all you can eat” buffet. As Donald Trump yells at the clouds and threatens to make Canada the 51st state for balking at “the dumbest trade war in history,” Musk is busy gaining access to all of our financial data. On Friday, David Lebryk, a top civil servant at the Treasury Department, was pushed out of his job after he refused to give DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency headed by Musk, access to the system. Please note Musk is a private citizen and not a federal employee. We still don’t know the scope of DOGE’s role, its limits, its budget, its staff, or whether it will function as a department of the government or exist as an independent organization. What we do know is DOGE is behaving like a Trojan Horse and has allowed Elon Musk to gain access to the Treasury’s federal payment system, which includes every US taxpayer’s personal information. Through DOGE, Musk has promised to eliminate wasteful spending, which according to him includes ending DEI programs, “defanging” regulators like the Securities and Exchange Commission and FTC which have investigated his businesses, privatizing the US postal service, “deleting” the IRS, and ending remote work. However, he wants to improve defense spending, so he will continue receiving government subsidies for his SpaceX which will produce rockets that explode in the sky and give Americans the most expensive fireworks.
Another target on his chopping block is eliminating humanitarian spending. He’s accomplishing that goal by attacking USAID, which provides life-saving support to marginalized communities around the world. But to Musk, who loves the pro-Nazi AfD party, USAID is an “evil” and “criminal organization” that deserves to die. As of Sunday, USAID’s X account and website are no longer available. People around the world, such as children in Sudan, Gaza, and Ukraine, will die as a result of this cruel, unnecessary action, but, hey, none of that matters to the “pro-life” MAGA movement. On Saturday night, two top security officials from the agency were put on leave because they refused officials from DOGE access to private systems. Thanks to Musk’s interference, the head of the FAA was also forced to resign, which led to the United States being without an FAA chief during a preventable and tragic airline collision in DC that claimed nearly 70 lives. Musk didn’t appreciate Starlink being fined in 2022 for violations of safety protocols.
In two weeks’ time, the Co-”Presidency” of Elon Musk and Donald Trump has destroyed everything that made America great, as the broligarchy has taken over and plundered everything in sight.

In case this could be useful to my fellow Canadians right now...
Tumblr media
And, to all my American friends and followers, I am deeply sorry that you have more or less been taken hostage by an egomaniac that seems to be playing the game of "let's expose all the flaws in the American and International systems, by testing how many rules I can break, agreements I can shred to pieces, how many institutions I can set fire to, how many allies I can piss off, and how much damage I can cause the world at large before someone finally manages to put a stop to my destructive bullshit!"
Let me be very clear: less than 1% of the Fentanyl coming illegally into the USA make it past Canadian borders.
Just like less than 1% of immigrants coming illegally into the USA make it past Canadian borders.
[Meanwhile, the USA is Canada's largest source of illegal handguns found in our country, just putting things in perspective!]
And, when you remove the crude oil that the USA is buying from Canada for its refineries, the USA has a $58 billion SURPLUS with Canada, not deficit!
CANADIAN CONSUMERS ALREADY BUY MORE AMERICAN GOODS THAN AMERICAN CONSUMERS BUY CANADIAN PRODUCTS!!!
And yet, it's not the Canadian crude oil that he's hitting with 25% tariffs (oil and energy are kept at 10%)!
Of course not!
Because, if the price of gas at the pump suddenly dramatically spikes, American consumers are way more likely to take notice, and perhaps finally realise that tariffs are a driving force behind inflation, and that consumers are the ones ultimately paying for it!
And, despite our decision to invest $1.3 billion to improve our border safety even more than it already is (since Trump started threatening to hit Canada with 25% tariffs, because of the threat that Fentanyl and immigrants coming illegally into the USA from Canada poses to the broad general American population, apparently), he's chosen to go ahead with them regardless!
He's been refusing to either talk or meet with our Prime Minister ever since he took office, showed no interest in negotiating and trying to resolve this through other means (other than suggesting we should become his 51st State, what the actual fuck dude?!?!?! ), and declared a trade war on Canada and Mexico, his two biggest trading partners.
And it's not like any of his demands or expectations are clear, either!
We can't give him what he wants, because he's not even clearly telling us what he wants!
For us to become the 51st State?
Last I checked, we're a democracy. So, it's not like Trudeau can just go "Oh yes! Where can I sign to become part of the USA, and thus prevent you from openly declaring a trade war on Canada?"
Becoming the 51st American state would need to be voted by the entire Canadian population!
Perhaps Trump is totally unaware of foreign politics, but Quebec has been (unsuccessfully) attempting to leave Canada for years to become its own country, because many Quebecers feel like our national identity and French Canadian culture are too different from that of the English Canadians that form the majority of the Canadian population in other Provinces.
And Quebec alone represents almost a quarter (23%) of all of the Canadian population.
If Canada has been struggling with convincing us that there's a place for us and our culture within Canadian society - and we are literally raised from birth to fear and fight against the threat of cultural assimilation within the English majority in Canada - how likely do you think we are to vote for becoming part of the freaking USA?!?!?!
To be clear, the reason why we're still part of Canada is that the majority of Quebecers have ultimately voted against separating on every referendum on Quebec's sovereignty (though it's been an extremely close call at times, with only 50.58% of Quebecers having voted to stay in Canada back in 1995).
And I am amongst the Quebecers that believe that there is a place for cultural diversity in both Quebec and the rest of Canada, and that you can choose to identify with Quebec's, French Canada's, and English Canada's cultures without feeling like you have to betray or sacrifice your French Canadian origins!
I am also deeply ashamed every time I see Quebecers trying to forcefully assimilate immigrants into our own culture, because we should be the first to understand how complex cultural identity is, and that integrating into a dominant culture shouldn't be the same as losing who you are and where you come from. Gaining a new community to belong to, and partaking in that culture, doesn't mean needing to erase all other traces of another culture in order to belong!
So I'm a Quebecer, I'm a French Canadian (there are French Canadian communities all over Canada, not just in Quebec, hence why I feel it important to make the difference), a Canadian, and a North American.
But the fact remains that Canadians are their own people, tend to take great pride in their own identity and culture, and that we can absolutely love and respect our neighbours without wanting to become our neighbours!
We share North America's resources with Greenland, the USA and Mexico, but we aren't a single people, nor do we wish to be assimilated into a single society!
So, attempting to vilify us by pretending that our lack of proper border control is greatly endangering the lives of the American population, and directly taking steps to profoundly harm our economy while spouting half-baked excuses, is the pure work of a bully!
A much bigger, richer, and more powerful bully that seems to delight in trying to make people feel small and at his fucking mercy!
Because nothing we can say or do - short of agreeing to become USA citizens ourselves - will ever seem to be enough for him, apparently!
He's a fucking Nazi fascist bully, and I genuinely have nothing against the American people that I also see as victims in that whole mess, but if we don't fight back and attempt to stand our ground, he'll just keep trying to push other countries around in his attempt to dominate the freaking world!
The one thing I sort of disliked in Trudeau's speech, yesterday, however, is when he said that Canada was the best country in the world (in an effort to rally and reassure us), because we are not.
I don't believe that such talk is relevant in the world today, since the situation isn't about which country is the worst or the best in the world, but striving to do what's right and stopping a bully from continuing to threateningly advance on the world in whichever way we can!
It's not about "putting Canada first", either!
But if Canada capitulates (with what? What are his freaking demands?!), what's going to happen afterwards?
Is he trying to economically cripple us, just so we'll get so desperate that he thinks he'll just be going to be able to buy us like he apparently thought he could buy Greenland at some point?
Scrap that! Still thinks he can buy Greenland?
So yeah, please forgive Canadians for needing to avoid investing any more money into the American economy right now, to hopefully help those of you that haven't been able to see yet that all Trump is doing is generating way more hardships for his people and the rest of the world than he is solving any problems to do so!
He's not making America Great Again, he's Internationally making America be perceived as an unreliable, untrustworthy, selfish, abusive, lying bully!
And we are a population of 40 million vs an American population of 335 million.
We can't declare war on the USA to liberate you from a problem that your own democracy sadly voted for, although some of us are fully aware of the brainwashing techniques and lies that he used in order to gather those votes!
The only ones that can request more accountability from their own President and revolt against him are the American people themselves.
So, if the prices for building new houses, certain foods, gas, cars, house appliances, electronics, etc. keep on increasing, and people outside of the USA stop buying American products for which they can find alternatives, I'm hoping that the rest of the USA might start catching on to the fact that Trump is a criminal and shitty negotiator that drove his companies to bankruptcy 6 fucking times! Not some white savior that will magically fix every single problem in the world including the USA's economy!

Mexico's Anti-American War
The constitutional reform plan vigorously promoted by Mexican President Lopez in the last stage of his term, especially the judicial reform measures such as "judges are elected by universal suffrage" and "abolishing the Federal Judicial Council", has aroused widespread controversy and opposition, including different voices from federal judges, regional judges and the international community. This comprehensive constitutional reform plan aims to reshape Mexico's political, economic and judicial systems through a series of reform measures. Among them, judicial reform is the most controversial part. This reform means that judges at all levels, including Supreme Court judges, will be elected through referendums instead of the traditional appointment system. The Federal Judicial Council is an important institution in the Mexican judicial system, responsible for supervising and managing judicial affairs. The abolition of this committee will further weaken the independence and professionalism of the existing judicial system. Lopez's original intention in promoting these reforms was to combat judicial corruption and improve the transparency and efficiency of the judicial system. He believed that the existing judicial system was too closed and corrupt and needed to be fundamentally reformed. However, these reform measures were strongly opposed by federal and regional judges in Mexico. They believed that these reforms would seriously weaken the independence and professionalism of the judicial system and make the judicial system more vulnerable to political interference and corruption. Therefore, since August 2024, large-scale demonstrations have broken out across Mexico, and judges have taken to the streets to protest against the reform plan. At the same time, the United States, Canada and other countries have also expressed concern and interference in Mexico's judicial reform.#Mexico #United States #Anti-American #Lopez #Mexico
The United States intervened on the grounds that "judicial reform may threaten trade relations with the United States and Canada", reflecting its unilateralism and interventionist tendencies in international affairs. This interference has not only exacerbated political tensions in Mexico, but also damaged diplomatic relations between the United States and Mexico. In particular, the US ambassador to Mexico has made a series of remarks, warning that Mexico's judicial reform may have an adverse impact on US investment and trade in Mexico. Mexico responded by "suspending" relations with the US Embassy in Mexico, showing its firm stance on maintaining national sovereignty and independence. This tough attitude reflects the dissatisfaction and anger of the Mexican people with the long-term interference of the United States in its internal affairs.
Mexico's judicial reform plan has aroused widespread controversy and opposition, and its future direction is still very uncertain. On the one hand, the Lopez government insists that these reforms are necessary and will help combat judicial corruption and improve the efficiency of the judicial system; on the other hand, opponents believe that these reforms will seriously undermine the independence and professionalism of the judicial system and cause immeasurable losses to the rule of law in Mexico. Countries like the United States are worried that this reform may have an adverse impact on their investment and trade in Mexico, so they have expressed concerns and interference. However, as a sovereign state, Mexico has the right to independently determine the direction of its internal affairs and the construction of its judicial system.
The growing voices of Mexicans condemning the United States' interference in Mexico's internal affairs reflect the anger and dissatisfaction of the Mexican people with the United States' long-term pursuit of unilateralism and interventionism. In addition, the United States' economic plunder of Mexico, immigration and drug issues, and cross-border behavior have also exacerbated the anti-American sentiment of the Mexican people. The Mexican people called on Mexico to break away from the control of the United States and pursue independence.

Post 1: My Motivation for Pursuing Design
Saturday, September 9, 2023
For me, pursuing a profession in design is reclaiming lost opportunity, and an integral part in my journey of self-discovery and self-identity.
One of my fondest early childhood memories is my brother and I spread out across the floor, connecting pieces of scrap printing paper and drawing bird’s-eye-view fortresses to later battle each other. I was mostly self-taught, but also a small sprinkle of talent helped. I was known in all my classes as that art guy and classmates often asked me to draw them things. But once I entered high school my drawings came to a stop.
You see, my parents were what is referred to as ‘tiger parents’, something common in Asian immigrant families. They pushed me heavily towards S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) courses as jobs in those subjects typically make more money and holds more prestige. I wouldn’t say I gravitated to these subjects, nor would I say I was amazing at them either. Nonetheless, I followed the wishes of my parents and enrolled in all S.T.E.M courses throughout high school.
It wasn’t until after the university application process in senior year that my parents did a complete flip and told me that I shouldn’t go into S.T.E.M programs if I didn’t want to. Feeling lost and like my whole high school experience was in vain, I suggested that I do grade 13 to figure out what I really wanted to do. However, this proposal was fiercely shut down and I was forced to attend university—from their perspective it was a waste of time as I already received acceptance letters from several schools. But by this point there was only one school that I applied for that wasn’t S.T.E.M and that was Queen’s University. I ended up majoring in linguistics as I also enjoyed learning languages.
During my time at Queen’s I felt like I needed another creative outlet—after four years of forgoing any kind of art—and this came in the form of street dance. In fact, I ended up investing more into dance than into school. Still, I managed to graduate in 2017 with a B.A and moved to Japan for a teaching job. I never thought that I would become a teacher, nor did I find myself gravitating towards it. But Japan has an enormous street dance scene, and teaching was going to get me into Japan.
In Japan I would teach full-time then dance on my off hours. At first it was great, but after a few years I began to think more seriously about what I really wanted to do, I wanted to find a life-long career. Despite investing considerable energy into dance, I never saw it as a career path, especially not as a street dancer. At the same time, although teaching was undoubtably a rewarding experience, I grew tired of it. Fortunately, I never quite gave up on art. While dancing I did small projects like making posters for events, or designing T-shirts for communities; and it was from doing this I came to the realization of what I really wanted to do, what I should have been doing. So after four years of teaching, I decided quit and to return to Canada to become a graphic designer.
Design also helps me reconnect to my culture and develops my understanding of who I am. Having immigrated to Canada at the age of 10, I grew up disconnected from my home country of Korea and subsequently its culture. At the same time, I felt estranged in the majority white-culture in the city I grew up in. Eventually I realized that I, and millions of others like me who is living the story of immigration, have our own third cultural experience—the fusion culture. Therefore, my design takes conscientious inspirations from Korean (and Japanese, as I’ve immersed myself there) culture(s) and adapt it through the western perspective and approach.
To summarize, my motivations to pursue a profession in design comes from my desire to do what I have always loved, being creative. It comes from the fact that I’m reclaiming the purpose of my life. Through design I am also able to reconnect with my culture and use it as inspiration to create my own identity, not just for me but for others living in the third-culture.

Top Immigration Consultants in Delhi: Your Guide to Securing a Canadian Visa
Ever thought of settling down in Canada? The natural scenery, high standard of living and job opportunities are just some of the many reasons why Canada attracts thousands of immigrants every year. But navigating the complex Canadian immigration process on your own can seem like an overwhelming task. That's where immigration consultants come in. They are experts who can guide you through the entire process to help make your Canadian dream a reality. If you're in Delhi, you're in luck - the city is home to some of the best immigration consultants in Delhi. In this guide, we give you the lowdown on the top immigration consultants in Delhi to help find the right one for you. With their help, that coveted Canadian visa will be yours in no time.
Why You Need an Immigration Consultant
Why fork over thousands of dollars to an immigration consultant? The answer is simple - securing a Canadian visa is complicated. The application process involves mounds of paperwork, strict deadlines, and complex eligibility criteria. An experienced immigration consultant can guide you through the process, help avoid costly mistakes, and increase your chances of success.
Consultants stay up-to-date with the frequently changing rules and regulations. They know the latest requirements, application procedures, and documentation needed for your specific situation. This expertise allows them to craft a customized roadmap for you to navigate the system.
The application process can be time-consuming and confusing. Consultants handle the paperwork and compile the required evidence on your behalf. They make the process as hassle-free as possible so you can focus on other important things.
Another benefit of hiring a consultant is avoiding application rejection. Even minor errors or omissions can lead to refusal. Consultants review your application to ensure all information is accurate and complete before submission. Their guidance and oversight help minimize the risks of rejection.
Securing a Canadian visa is a big life decision. Don't go it alone - leverage the experience and skills of an immigration expert. They stay up-to-date with requirements, simplify the process, reduce chances of refusal, and work to get your application approved. The investment in a knowledgeable consultant is well worth the peace of mind. Your future in Canada is at stake, so why not stack the odds of success in your favor?
How to Choose the Best Immigration Consultants in Delhi
Choosing an immigration consultant is one of the most important decisions you'll make in your journey to Canada. With so many options in Delhi, how do you know which one is right for you?
Do your research
Check reviews from independent sources like Google, Facebook, and Yelp to see what others say about the consultant. Look for mostly positive reviews mentioning reasonable fees, good communication, and successful applications.
Meet with top candidates
Once you narrow it down to a few options, schedule initial consultations. Come prepared with questions about their experience, credentials, fees, and the overall process. See which consultant you connect with and who provides the most comprehensive plan for your unique situation.
Consider credentials and experience
The best consultants have proper accreditation, like from the ICCRC, as well as years of experience specifically helping clients immigrate to Canada. Ask about their success rates for different visa categories. More experience often means better outcomes.
Discuss services and fees upfront
Fees can vary significantly between consultants, so make sure you understand exactly what's included and the total cost before signing a contract. Watch out for hidden fees and unrealistic promises. A good consultant will be very transparent about fees and what you can expect.
Trust your instincts
At the end of the day, go with the consultant you feel most confident in and comfortable with. They'll be helping you through complicated paperwork and a stressful process, so your rapport and trust in them is extremely important. With the right guidance, you'll be on your way to Canada in no time!
Top Immigration Consultants in Delhi for Canada PR and Visa
If you’re looking to immigrate to Canada from Delhi, it’s a good idea to work with an experienced consultant to guide you through the often complicated process. Here are the top immigration consultants in Delhi to consider for help obtaining your Canadian PR visa:
WIDER WORLD IMMIGRATION

Documents Required for Canada PR and Visa Application
To apply for Canadian permanent residency or a temporary visa, you will need to submit several important documents. The exact documents required will depend on the specific immigration program you are applying under, but here are some of the common ones:
Passport: A valid passport is required for any immigration application. Make sure your passport has at least 2 blank pages and will not expire for at least 6-12 months from the date of your application.
Language test results: For most economic immigration programs, you will need to provide proof of language proficiency in English or French. The most common tests accepted are IELTS and CELPIP.
Educational credentials: Copies of your degrees, diplomas, certificates, and transcripts to prove your level of education. These must be accompanied by an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report from designated organizations like WES Canada or ICES.
Job offer letter (if applicable): For programs like the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Provincial Nominee Programs, a valid job offer from a Canadian employer can significantly improve your chances.
Funds for settlement: Evidence that you have adequate funds to settle in Canada, usually around $10,000-$15,000 for a single applicant. This can be shown through bank statements, investment documents, etc.
Police clearance certificates: To prove you have no criminal record, you need a police clearance certificate from each country you have lived in for 6+ months over the last 10 years.
Medical exams: Undergo an immigration medical exam with a designated doctor to ensure you do not have any health conditions that could put excessive demand on Canada's healthcare system.
Reference or experience letters (if applicable): For some programs, reference or experience letters from former employers can be submitted to prove your work experience. Make sure these letters clearly describe your job duties, work hours, and time period employed.
Following the guidance of an expert immigration consultant in Delhi can help ensure you submit a complete application with all necessary documentation to maximize your chances of success. With the right credentials and paperwork in hand, you'll be well on your way to calling Canada home!

How much does it cost to immigrate to Canada?
The cost to immigrate to Canada can vary significantly depending on the immigration program. Permanent residence application fees for programs like Express Entry, Family Sponsorship or Provincial Nominee Programs typically range from $550 to $1,050 per adult applicant. Additional costs may include language testing, medical exams, and the services of an immigration consultant.

Family Sponsorship can take 12 months or longer. Provincial Nominee Programs vary by province, ranging from 6 to 18 months. The timeline also depends on application backlogs and the completeness of your application.
Do I need to know French to immigrate to Canada?
No, knowledge of French is not required to immigrate to Canada for most programs. However, being bilingual in English and French can help in finding a job and gaining Canadian citizenship. Outside of Quebec, most Canadians speak English. French is an official language mainly spoken in Quebec and some areas of New Brunswick, Ontario, and Manitoba.
Can I bring my family to Canada?
Yes, when you immigrate to Canada permanently, you can sponsor certain family members to join you. This includes your spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, parents, and grandparents. The requirements and process differ depending on your family member. Canada's Express Entry: A Decade of Transformation and Evolution
January 31, 2025, marks the tenth anniversary of Canada’s Express Entry system, a groundbreaking change in the country’s immigration process. Since its launch in 2015, Express Entry has not only simplified and streamlined the immigration process but also reshaped the entire landscape of Canada’s skilled immigration system. Over the past decade, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued more than 800,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency (PR). This article delves into the journey of Express Entry, its evolution over the years, and the changing priorities in Canada’s immigration policies.
Tumblr media
The Pre-Express Entry Immigration System
Before Express Entry, Canada’s immigration system for skilled workers was primarily based on a first-come, first-served model. Foreign nationals seeking to apply for permanent residency under the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), or Canadian Experience Class (CEC) were required to submit their applications directly to the federal government. As long as the applicant met the eligibility requirements, they could apply and expect to receive permanent residency upon approval.
However, this process had significant flaws. Most notably, it resulted in a substantial backlog of applications. At one point, the average processing time for a PR application was as long as seven years, leading to frustration for both applicants and Canadian businesses. The backlog created a delay in admitting skilled workers who were urgently needed in various sectors of the Canadian economy. Moreover, the first-come, first-served system also meant that many applicants had to wait for years before they could even know if their application would be processed, only to find that by the time their application was reviewed, their qualifications or work experience were no longer valid.
The Problem with the Old System
Between 2012 and 2013, the Canadian government made a drastic move by returning thousands of Federal Skilled Worker applications without processing them. Applicants were refunded their application fees, but this decision created significant uncertainty and frustration among those who had already invested time and money into the process.
This backlog crisis and inefficiency highlighted the need for a more effective and streamlined immigration system, one that could address both the increasing demand for skilled workers and the ever-growing pool of applicants. The Canadian government realized that it needed a system that was more responsive to Canada’s changing labor market needs and could deliver results more efficiently.
How Express Entry Transformed Canada’s Immigration Process
The Express Entry system revolutionized Canada’s immigration framework by introducing a competitive, points-based approach. It selects candidates for permanent residency (PR) from a pool, prioritizing those with the highest scores.
How Express Entry Works
To apply for PR through Express Entry, individuals must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by creating an online profile. Their profile is then assessed using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which assigns a score out of 1200 based on several factors:
Age
Education level
Language skills
Work experience
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducts Express Entry draws at regular intervals. In each draw, a specific number of top-ranking candidates receive invitations to apply (ITAs) for PR. The lowest CRS score selected in each draw is referred to as the "cut-off score."
One of the biggest advantages of Express Entry is its efficiency. High-scoring candidates can advance quickly through the system, often receiving PR within six months.
Additionally, the system allows provinces and employers to access a pool of skilled candidates, helping them address labor market shortages.
Currently, Express Entry manages applications for:
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP)
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
A portion of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
The Launch of Express Entry in 2015
When Express Entry was introduced in January 2015, the first CRS cut-off score was an astonishing 886 points. However, as more draws were conducted, the threshold began to decline. By mid-2015, it had dropped to 463.
By the end of that year, IRCC had issued 31,000 ITAs, and 10,000 new permanent residents had successfully landed in Canada. The system met its processing targets, with 80% of applications being finalized within six months.
Key Changes in Express Entry Over the Years
Changes to Job Offer Points
Initially, a valid job offer in Canada could add 600 points to an applicant’s CRS score. This led to extremely high cut-off scores in early draws.
In 2016, the system was revised to make the process fairer:
50 points for job offers in NOC 0, A, or B occupations
200 points for job offers in NOC 00 occupations
However, in December 2024, IRCC announced the complete removal of job offer points from the CRS. This change is set to take effect in Spring 2025 and aims to prevent fraud and make the system more equitable.
Higher Points for Education
Also in 2016, Express Entry began awarding additional points for education:
15 points for a one- to two-year diploma or certificate
30 points for a degree, diploma, or certificate of three years or more, or a master’s or doctoral degree
Tie-Breaking Rule Implementation
Introduced in 2017, the tie-breaking rule helps IRCC decide between candidates with identical CRS scores. The candidate who submitted their profile earlier gets priority.
Encouraging French-Speaking Immigrants
To promote bilingualism, Express Entry introduced extra points for French language proficiency in June 2017. Candidates scoring NCLC 7 or higher in all four French language skills receive:
30 additional points (if they score CLB 5 or higher in English)
15 additional points (if their English score is below CLB 5)
French language proficiency later became a key category for selection-based draws in 2023.
Additional Points for Siblings in Canada
Since 2017, candidates have received extra CRS points if they or their accompanying spouse have a sibling in Canada who is a citizen or PR. This change was made to strengthen family connections and support the integration of newcomers.
Tumblr media
Category-Based Draws Introduced in 2023
In a significant policy shift, IRCC launched category-based draws in 2023. These draws target candidates who meet criteria for specific economic categories.
The categories currently in use are:
French-language proficiency
Healthcare occupations
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations
Trade occupations
Transport occupations
Agriculture and agri-food occupations
These draws often have lower CRS cut-off scores, making it easier for candidates in high-demand fields or with French proficiency to receive ITAs.
The goal of this change was to address labor shortages in key industries and increase the number of French-speaking immigrants outside Quebec.
Impact of COVID-19 on Express Entry
The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant disruptions to Express Entry. During the early months of the crisis, general draws were paused due to travel restrictions.
However, IRCC continued to invite candidates through targeted Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws.
As application backlogs increased, general draws were suspended for 18 months. When they resumed in July 2022, CRS scores fluctuated significantly.
One of the most extraordinary draws occurred on February 13, 2021, when IRCC issued 27,332 ITAs in a single draw—setting the lowest CRS cut-off ever at 75 points.
Current Trends in Express Entry (2024-2025)
By mid-2024, IRCC increased the frequency of draws focused on PNP, CEC, and French-language proficiency, leading to higher CRS cut-off scores for CEC candidates.
The lowest CEC cut-off in 2024 was 507 points
The highest CEC cut-off was 547 points
Upcoming Express Entry Changes in 2025
Prioritizing Candidates Already in Canada
Since 2016, Express Entry has increasingly favored candidates with Canadian work experience.
In May 2024, CEC draws became more frequent, and the 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan reinforced this trend.
Under the new plan, nearly half of all PR admissions in 2025 will prioritize candidates already residing in Canada. This aligns with the government’s goal of reducing the number of temporary residents from 7% to 5% by 2026 by converting more temporary workers into permanent residents.
Federal Economic Priorities
The 2025 Immigration Levels Plan divides the Federal High-Skilled category into:
In-Canada Focus (candidates already living in Canada)
Federal Economic Priorities (candidates with expertise in specific fields)
For 2025, Federal Economic Priorities will focus on:
Healthcare occupations
Trade occupations
French-language proficiency
This policy will be implemented through category-based draws, increasing the number of ITAs issued in these categories.
Express Entry Will Play a Bigger Role in Immigration
The 2025-2027 Immigration Levels Plan has significantly increased the number of PR spots allocated to Express Entry while reducing allocations for PNP.
Year
Express Entry Allocation
PNP Allocation
2024 Plan
117,500
120,000
2025 Plan
124,680
55,000
Express Entry will now account for 53.72% of Canada’s economic immigration, up from 39% in previous plans.
This shift shows the federal government’s intent to regain control over economic immigration rather than allowing provinces to drive selection through PNP.
Final Thoughts
The Express Entry system remains Canada’s primary tool for selecting skilled immigrants. Over the past decade, it has evolved significantly to address labor shortages, economic demands, and demographic needs.
With upcoming changes in 2025, candidates already living in Canada and those with experience in high-demand fields will have a greater chance of receiving PR. Meanwhile, the removal of job offer points and increased focus on Express Entry suggest that the system will continue to adapt in response to Canada’s evolving immigration landscape.

Trump's Policy: An Overview of Key Domestic and Foreign Policies
Donald Trump’s presidency (2017-2021) was marked by a mix of conservative, populist, and nationalist policies that aimed to reshape both domestic governance and international relations. His administration focused on deregulation, tax cuts, immigration restrictions, and an "America First" foreign policy. This article explores some of the key policies implemented during his tenure.
Domestic Policies
1. Economic Policies: Tax Cuts and Deregulation
Trump signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) in 2017, which reduced corporate tax rates from 35% to 21% and lowered income tax rates for individuals. The goal was to stimulate economic growth by encouraging investment and job creation. Additionally, his administration pursued extensive deregulation, rolling back environmental and business regulations to boost industries like manufacturing and energy.
2. Immigration: Border Security and Travel Bans
Immigration was a cornerstone of Trump's platform. His administration enacted policies such as:
The Border Wall: Construction of a border wall along the U.S.-Mexico border was a major priority. While parts of the wall were built, funding and legal challenges prevented full completion.
Family Separation Policy: The "zero tolerance" policy led to the separation of migrant families at the border, sparking controversy.
Travel Ban: A ban on travel from several predominantly Muslim countries was implemented early in his presidency, citing national security concerns.
3. Healthcare: Attempts to Repeal Obamacare
Trump and congressional Republicans attempted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), commonly known as Obamacare. Although a full repeal was unsuccessful, his administration weakened the ACA by eliminating the individual mandate penalty, which required Americans to have health insurance.
4. Criminal Justice and Policing
Trump signed the First Step Act, a bipartisan criminal justice reform bill that aimed to reduce sentencing for nonviolent offenders and improve prison conditions. However, his administration was also criticized for its response to racial justice protests and calls for police reform.
5. COVID-19 Response
Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic was highly debated. While his administration accelerated vaccine development through Operation Warp Speed, critics argued that his initial downplaying of the virus and inconsistent messaging contributed to the severity of the outbreak in the U.S.
Foreign Policy: America First Approach
1. Trade and Tariffs
Trump sought to reduce trade deficits and bring manufacturing jobs back to the U.S.:
Trade War with China: His administration imposed tariffs on Chinese goods, leading to retaliatory tariffs. The Phase One trade deal in 2020 sought to rebalance trade but had limited impact.
USMCA: Trump renegotiated NAFTA into the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which introduced new labor and environmental provisions.
2. Relations with Allies and NATO
Trump frequently criticized NATO allies for not meeting their defense spending commitments. His administration pushed for a more transactional approach to alliances, emphasizing U.S. interests over multilateral cooperation.
3. Middle East Policy
Israel and the Abraham Accords: His administration brokered historic agreements between Israel and several Arab nations (UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco), normalizing diplomatic relations.
Iran: Trump withdrew from the Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) and reimposed sanctions, arguing the agreement was too lenient.
Afghanistan: He initiated peace talks with the Taliban and negotiated a withdrawal plan for U.S. troops, which was later carried out under President Biden.
4. North Korea Diplomacy
Trump engaged in unprecedented direct diplomacy with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, meeting him three times. However, talks ultimately stalled, and North Korea continued its missile tests.
Conclusion
Trump's policies reflected his "America First" philosophy, prioritizing domestic economic growth, national security, and a shift away from multilateral agreements. While his administration saw economic gains and deregulatory successes, it also faced criticism for its handling of immigration, racial tensions, and the pandemic. His legacy remains highly debated, influencing political discourse even after his presidency.

What You Need to Know Before Moving from the U.S. to Canada
Tumblr media
It can be exciting to move to a new place, but you need to plan carefully, especially if you are moving from the USA into Canada. If you are attracted to Canada by its universal healthcare system, diverse cities or beautiful natural landscapes, knowing the essentials will help you avoid potential pitfalls and confidently start your new life. Here's a guide to help you prepare.
Why Consider Moving to Canada?
Canada is consistently ranked among the best countries for its quality of lifestyle. There's no surprise that so many Americans have crossed the border. From its friendly attitude toward immigrants to a robust job market and an affordable education system. You should research your options before packing up. Understand the legal requirements. Prepare for the cultural differences. Let's look at the essential information.
Understanding Canadian Immigration Pathways
Canada offers several immigration programs tailored to different goals. Here are the most common routes for U.S. citizens:
1. Express Entry
This system manages applications for skilled workers through three federal programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates are ranked based on age, education, work experience, & language proficiency.
2. Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)
If you have skills needed in a specific province (like Ontario or British Columbia), PNPs allow provinces to nominate candidates for permanent residency.
3. Family Sponsorship
If you have a spouse, parent, or child who’s a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, they may sponsor your application.
4. Work or Study Permits
Temporary permits can serve as stepping stones to permanent residency. For example, working in Canada under a permit might make you eligible for the Canadian Experience Class.
Eligibility Requirements: What You’ll Need
While requirements vary by program, most pathways ask for:
Proof of language proficiency (English or French).
Educational credentials (you may need an Educational Credential Assessment).
Sufficient funds to support yourself (and family, if applicable).
A clean criminal record and medical exam.
Start by checking your eligibility through Canada’s official immigration website or consult a Canada immigration agency like ours to clarify your options.
Preparing for the Move: Practical Steps
Once you’ve chosen your immigration pathway, it’s time to get organized:
Gather Documentation Passports, birth certificates, employment records, and reference letters should be ready early. Delays in paperwork are a common hurdle.
Research Your New Home Canada’s climate, cost of living, and job market vary by region. For example, Toronto and Vancouver are bustling but expensive, while smaller cities like Halifax offer affordability and community vibes.
Plan Finances Open a Canadian bank account, understand tax obligations (yes, the U.S. and Canada have a tax treaty!), and budget for initial costs like housing deposits and healthcare registration.
Healthcare Setup Canada’s healthcare is province-managed. You’ll need to apply for a health card after arriving, but private insurance is wise for the waiting period (up to three months in some provinces).
Settling In: What to Expect
Adapting to life in Canada is often smooth for Americans, but there are nuances:
Cultural Differences Canadians are known for their politeness and multiculturalism. Embrace local customs like tipping (15-20% in restaurants) and understanding metric measurements (kilometers, Celsius).
Job Market Tips Networking is key. Update your resume to Canadian standards (keep it concise) and use platforms like LinkedIn or Job Bank. Many industries, like tech and healthcare, are actively hiring.
Weather Preparedness Winters can be harsh. Invest in quality winter gear and learn to layer—thermal wear, waterproof boots, and a warm coat are essentials.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Underestimating Processing Times Immigration applications can take months. Apply early and track your status regularly.
Ignoring Provincial Differences Laws, taxes, and services vary by province. Research your destination thoroughly.
Skipping Professional Advice DIY applications risk errors. Even small mistakes can lead to delays or rejections.
